Strange Network Data Issue - Nubia Red Magic 3 Questions & Answers

Hi
I have been using the Red Magic 3 for a couple of weeks now and I ma generally very satisfied with the phone, but there is one issue which is frustrating me.
I'm a delivery driver and when I'm driving around listening to Spotify, randomly the phone decides to lose the data connection completely and the signal bars will remain stuck on a certain amount of bars despite driving around and actual signal fluctuating. When it does this my data won't work again until I either reboot the phone or toggle airplane mode. It is doing this at least 3 times a day and I can't figure out what is causing it to do this.
Has anyone else experienced this and know how to fix it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Never heard/seen of this before. Are you on the latest rom update?

Thanks for the reply. No it's not something I've experienced before either, it doesn't affect WiFi just mobile data. I can't even spot a pattern or a trigger as to why it does it, it just seems really random.
I am currently on version 3.0 of the software which it says is the latest version.
It's so annoying because I am happy with this phone but this is driving me nuts because I can't even make or receive calls when it happens

I think 3.0 is the version of the update software.
The version of the rom can be found in Settings/System/About. It should be something like 1.11 or 1.15 (latest US version.) 2.09 if it's global version.
Now, just a wild idea here: the back of the phone is metal so the only way radio can transmit is through the screen or two metallic antenna bands at the top and bottom sides of the phone. Are you by any chance putting the phone screen down on something metallic?
Also, just to make sure that it isn't some rogue app that is doing this, you could try using the phone in Safe mode, which temporarily disables all installed apps - hold down power button until Restart button appears, hold down Restart button until it asks if you want to reboot into safe mode.

This has me a bit worried, I'm looking at buying one of these and I too am a delivery driver. Where are you located? Maybe something unique to that area? Also what network. I use Red Pocket Mobile (a MVNO reseller) so I can switch to any of the main carriers of tower usage. Currently using their At&t. Could maybe be an issue with APN settings. If you didn't enter any, you may want to google them and try entering in one manually.

Apologies, yes it's the global version 2.09.
Well the phone is in a car phone holder made of plastic when the problem occurs so it shouldn't be that causing it, it also doesn't affect any other phone I've had.
Many thanks for the suggestion of a rogue app, I'll do a factory reset and just install the basic apps I need for work and see if that does the trick ?

Hi, I'm located in the UK and I use the EE network in SIM 1 and Vodafone in SIM 2.
Yes if could be an APN issue as when I put my Sims in the phone they text me saying that they couldn't send the APN settings remotely and I'd have to input them myself, but the settings were already there. I'll try deleting the ones that are there and input them manually.
I think this phone doesn't play very well with the networks here in the UK generally as whenever I have voLTE activated on the phone, all incoming calls show up as unknown callers. I've seen reports of this happening on several UK networks so looks like it might just be that the phone isn't optimized for the UK networks

I have same one .. u solved ut?

I have red magic 6pro and I am seeing exactly this behaviour!! Very frustrating. How to fix this.

I just i stalled the chinese version with android 11 and get way better signal, but is bloatware city and struggling to uninstall gapps. I hesitated before to install chinese version but is something I should have done long time ago.

Phone cutting off after call or internet usage

I have a tilt and recently it started just shutting down when I had been on a call for about 4 minutes or when I was looking around on the internet for about 4 minutes. This was a std. tilt not flashed with HTC home installed. I hard reset it and hoped that would fix the problem, but it never did. So finally I decded to flash the ROM and see if that may make it better. alas it did not. I have tried everything I know, but everytime I get online or on the phone it just shuts off. Then it takes a few times before it will ever come back on normally. Does anyone know what is going on or what I can try to fix the problem. It seems as though my data is limited and cuts off after a certain point. I would really appreciate anyones help
Anyone have anything? It also cuts off whenever I connect to Facebook app. It tells me to check my internet conection
non of my wm phones ever had that issue
read up on it on google once it's it's an operator end hardware thing
not much you can do if the hardware they use don't support it
I was having the same issue with my tilt
I was having the exact same issue.
Check my thread :

I just solve the problem replacing the battery.
I got one of this

and it has been working like a champ.

Annoying! Loses service, won't return until reboot

I dont know if this has anything to do with the ROM im running (cyanogen 5 series)
but when i lose service for a period of time, like in my office, then i go outside on the road, it remains without service until i reboot. Anyone else running into this? I find it annoying i have to restart just to make a call
Try toggling on and off Airplane mode. Probably quicker.
Are you running the latest Radio?
Hi,
What radio version are you using?
*#*#4636#*#*
ERE36B 32.24.00.22u_4.03.00.21_2 ...is that the information u were looking for?
i have the same problem! it happened after the first radio update and im running stock rom..i have to go to settings/wireless & networks/mobile networks/network operators/select automatically to fix the probelm..its crazy because it shows i have full bars and 3G and I still can't send messages or call people till i do my fix...any answers??
same problem, i havent updated my radio but am using the latest cyanogen. i usually reboot. thanks for the airplane mode tip.
Moved as not Android Development.
Come to think of this... I had the issue once. I tried toggling Airplane Mode, but it kinda froze and wouldn't let me disable AM. Had to reboot and then it worked fine. Weird, but have only had it happen once. Someone post about this on Google's support site?
My sister has the Nexus also (talked her out of iPhone) and she's having these same issues. 3g dropping to edge randomly while the phone is just sitting there. Can't send SMS and has to reboot the phone. I feel bad because I'm the one that told her to get it and now she's having all these issues... though AT&T really sucks in my state. Her phone is up to date with the OTA updates.

Those are separate issues, I think. I haven't ever experienced those issues... all I've had happen is to go into a building for a while where there was no signal, then after leaving and going outside, not reconnecting to the network. As I said though, a reboot fixed my issue. Not sure about your sister's issue, though it seems some are also experiencing... but not everyone is, which leads me to believe it's either something network related, or specific to a handful of phones. Perhaps a swap with HTC is in order.
It's network+Android. It's even prevalent in good 3G/H saturated areas. Anytime you're switching a speed (EDGE -> UMTS -> HSDPA) all data transfers stop until it's initialized. Unfortunately it seems that Android is handling this changeover extremely slowly and the problem is exacerbated by switching towers (like when you go to a new location). I've found that whenever I travel to a new location I use an Airplane Mode widget toggle when I get there and the problem goes away until I go somewhere else. But like I said it still exists when stationary like if there isn't a really solid HSDPA connection.
It's annoying.
Edit: I should point out that this problem exists with EDGE-3G (first gen Android handsets) as well. Try to do a stream or something like that with one bar of 3G then have it get knocked down to EDGE. 10 to 1 the stream gets interrupted. I know it happened plenty in certain areas with my G1. We're only noticing it more on the N1 because of the antenna placement makes staying on mediocre 3G connections tricky and add in the fact that we're now dealing with a THIRD connection type.
Edit again: I reread my post and it sounds like I'm coming off as "ZOMG THIS IS FACT". It's nothing more than my personal opinion and experiences. Sorry for the confusion.
Again... I think the OP is talking about LOSING SERVICE altogether.... i.e. the bars going grey and the little x showing up above the bars. Not the data connection switchover. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's what he's asking about.

Possibly, the OP isn't clear but that is pretty normal for XDA.

Dude... read the post again. It's as clear as day...not to mention the title of the thread!
I've got the same issue too, and I'm with WIND mobile, so its definitely not a T-Mobile thing.
I either have to go to Airplane Mode, or if that won't work or takes too long, then I just battery pull, reboot and the phone is fine.
I've had this happen in different situations... If like the OP, I'm in an area with no coverage and then I enter a region with coverage, the Nexus One won't pick-up or notice that there's coverage and it'll just sit there and say no service.
If I try to manually select my Network/Mobile provider from the settings menu, it'll error out and say your SIM card is not recognized (others have had the same happen to them as well).
I've also had the phone go from full signal to a total loss of signal and signal would not return until I performed a battery pull.

I've never experienced the last problem you described...
By the way, instead of pulling the battery, you should do a soft reboot by pushing power, trackball, and volume down simultaneously. This is easier on your device then just cutting the power. Just bear in mind that it will take a few seconds for the phone to reboot, so be patient after hitting that key combo.

Thanks for the tip man... Will definitely do what you've described from now on.
WIND is having some network issues, so their signal might have cut out and then that must have triggered the loss of signal bug with the phone where it doesn't see to renegotiate the connection.
BTW, does setting it to "WCDMA Only" make a difference for anyone?

[Q] LG Revolution Internet Cuts Out

Hello All,
I have been in battle with Verizon ever since I first got the service with my Thunderbolt. The internet would run for about 15 minutes and then drop connection even though everything said it had an internet connection. Verizon has had me change out the SIM card, reboot the phone, reset to factory, made sure that always on data was enabled. I have used multiple different tethering applications such as PDANet and EasyTether along with rooting my phone and installing wifi apps. (they don't know about the root). I have been through 4 thunderbolts, all had the same problem. Internet would run for about 15 minutes or less and then stop working. Verizon checked out the network and said everything was fine. I now have a LG Revolution and am having the same problems again. So I know its not a phone issue. I read on here that turning off voice privacy can possibly fix this problem. So I did. I pinged google and at 13 minutes into it started to fail. It would time out or if it did successfully ping the time it took was above 3000 ms. I have a 3G connection of -82dBm (4G currently turned off for trouble shooting purposes) and a 1x connection of -90dBm. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Verizon help is useless so im going to you guys who are much more knowledgeable than they are. I have also tried this on several different PCs. I have to reboot my phone to get the internet working properly again.
Sorry about the long post but its all information you guys need to know.
Thanks,
locohammerhead
Phone calls are like this on my phone. Its a call dropping fool. But, the signal doesn't cause it, it doesn't change. I think its the software myself. I've run log cat, and all i see is a message that says there was a signal change. I dobt know if its an instantaneous thing that i cant see happen, or if its a crock of shinto.
Sent from my VS910 4G using XDA Premium App
but my problem isnt with calls being dropped. Its with my internet connection.
Right, but its still over the 3G network. People are having texting issues as well. I think its LG's radio software, is what im saying.
Sent from my VS910 4G using XDA Premium App
i dont think it has to do with software because I had the same problem on four different thunderbolts. I also rooted it and tried multiple different roms and radios. So unless LG and HTC all use the same radios odds are thats not the problem.
Well, my Xoom runs fine on 3G,and it doesn't have a 4G radio yet. So I doubt it's Verizon.
Sent from my VS910 4G using XDA Premium App
I was thinking maybe there is something wrong with my account or sim card? The girl that set everything up originally was a complete and utter moron that did not know what what was doing.
temporary problems.
Earlier on when I got my phone I had intermittent connectivity issues, but toggling airplane mode on and off or a reboot usually fixed it...and for longer than 15 min, more like days. I'm in a 4G area now, but for about a month and a half only had 3G. Occasionally I still loose connectivity but both methods I just spoke of will fix it for the long term.
It seems very odd that it's not a widespread problem. It’s just so weird. I can stream several Netflix movies back to back without any breaks, even on 3G.
STOCK LG Revolution
Same Here
I run into this same problem while tethering whether on LTE or 3g. It runs great for a while, hours even, then all the sudden it will quit for anywhere from a minute to an hour or more. Sometimes a reboot will fix it. Interesting thing is I ran into the same problem with my old motorola droid. Make me lean towards this being an issue on verizon's end.
Does this occur when you are connected to wifi or only on 3G/1x? Have you tried testing in different locations with varying signal strengths?
Do you have the problem without root?
I'm wondering if this is an issue with your local network, meaning Verizon's network in your area. Since it happened on two different models and several phones, it would seem to indicate that it is an environment issue rather than a radio or other hardware problem.
I have a similar issue, but with text messages. I can send 3-5 text messages before it just chokes up. Then I have to reboot, or turn airplane mode on/off. Then I can send 3-5 text messages before it chokes again. I've done everything I can think of to isolate the problem, to no avail.
If anyone has a solution to his, please let me know. It's almost worse than not being able to make phone calls.
I also experience the Internet issue, but less frequently. It;s not my ROM, because I've used three different ROMs (including stock) and it was a problem on all of them. I saw on some other forum that it may be an issue generated by switching from a 3G phone to a 4G phone. If the VZW rep who setup your phone didn't do everything right, there's a "behind the scenes" setting that sometimes fails to get changed. The suggestion was to dial *611, describe the problem, and they should be able to fix it (though it may take 2-3 days).
I plan on trying this tomorrow, will let you know if I experience any changes. If anyone else has done this or wants to try it, post your results, and lets see if we can get this figured out.

This is almost certainly a VZW problem, whether they will acknowledge it or not is an open question. The only other things I can think of is a bad SIM card or incorrect programming of the SIM. The OP stated that Verizon swapped his out, so that leaves only the programming or the network.
Wish I had a better answer for you, bro.
My internet connection just started messing up with me today too. The internet will work fine with 4g and wifi but i get no internet connection with 3g only...
I have the exact same problem as the OP.
Really pisses me off. Want to throw vzw out the window and go back to a feature phone sometimes.
Vzw customer support is less than helpful. One will say your phones the problem, but why did I have the exact issue with my Incredible. Another will say its because I live in a fringe market area and we aren't really an important part of the network. WTF?
All I know is when I lived in Cincinnati everything worked fine. Moved up north and about 6 to 8 months later my service slowly starts sucking more and more to the point where I don't even bother looking up info on my Revo anymore.
I got my replacement LG Rev exactly one week ago to today. This one is all sorts of connection/rebooting issues.
Also unfortunately the update was already on my phone when I got, so no root for me
WiFI wont stay connected even if i'm 3ft from my router.
Phone will lose ALL signal and drop in to extend, and I'm only 1 mile from a strong 3g/4g tower.
Whenever i would pop it to airplane mode then back on, it would reboot.
I have 4 days before its been 1 month with this phone. I'm close to sending it back and getting the HTC TB or Droid 3.
In a test of patients I reset my phone to factory default, removed CWM and it updated to v6. I have to say the network connection was the most stable I have ever had it be but in turn the phone was not as smooth. Changing between screens had lag and was not as smooth as the original rom that shipped on the phone.
I have since down graded and re-rooted. The signal is not as stable either.
I was having same issue, especially with certain sites, including my own website for my business.
So far, what has fixed the issue, at least through Linux Network Settings, is setting the MTU to 1300. No other number has worked so great to date, but that seem to load everything and keep everything fast and quick with little issues.

EDIT: Upon further reading, I'm wondering if my reply was not quite on track. Is this problem on the phone itself, or via hotspot/tethering? It seems to be on the phone, so my reply might be way of course.

[Q] Droid 4 connection issues

Has anyone else noticed their DROID 4 dropping data connectivity seemingly randomly and requiring a reboot to pick it back up? I know that I am...and I'm wondering if Motorola can't make it hang onto a data connection how hash is ever going to mmake it work right.
I haven't had any issues with data at all... LTE/3G handoffs work perfectly and everything ...And no worries, I am confident the data issues will be sorted out on the ics builds!
I have them issues. If connected via wifi no problem. But still wont be connected to the network. Requires a reboot to aquire network back

Rooted stock, no safestrap.
Though I doubt safestrap is causing data issues, or fixing them for that matter.
While I do plan on flashing some custom ROMs at some point, I have to admit that I'm very happy with the stock rom. Performance is very good, smart actions are actually pretty great (though there are of course 3rd party apps that do the same thing), and the camera app works pretty well.
My only complaint are the window transitions, blech. Yea, you can disable them, but then all the eye candy goes away completely! Ah Moto, why no middle ground?
I have had data connection issues on all the ICS ROMs but data on stock has been pretty solid.
Did you just port your number from another carrier to verizon? I had the same issue plus some and called verizon and they fixed it on their end. Hope this helps.

I had a few problems with my data just going out for a few minutes on the stock rom. I would be browsing the web, and then a page would just not load. I noticed my signal indicator was grey and not blue, and thus I wasn't getting a data connection. I just waited a few minutes and it came back up.
I never really though too much into it because I expect these small things to happen on such a big wireless network.

This is exactly what happens to me. It almost seems like a session timing out and renewing but I don't have a clue how the LTE network works.
Had the same data issue.. went to Verizon store and got a new SIM card (free) and problems cleared right up. Evidently the old SIM card did not get activated properly in their system.
I'm also having connection problems from time to time. I'm in a 3G only area. I'm running a stock non-rooted phone. Usually, I can get the connection back with a reboot. It's still a pain in the ass, I shouldn't have to deal with. I've called Verizon a few times. Its like talking to a wall with them. They act like you are the dumbest person in the world. Hopefully the next update can clear this problem.

After dealing with this problem for over 2 months I finally found an answer.
I have had this problem since day 2 and after getting the run around several times at the Verizon store (They claimed it was because they were upgrading to LTE in the area, which they said we'd have within 1 month over 2 months ago) they told me there was nothing they could do and suggested I call tech support (I don't know why I didn't think of that). I called tech support and talked to a very helpful woman, after describing my problem to her she asked me what phone I had, she knew the issue right after I told her it was the Droid 4. She told me it was a well known issue with the Droid 4 and that they expect a patch to be released at the end of the month (July) that would address the problem. She said that some people have had temporary success with toggling airplane mode (this has never worked for me but rebooting a few times does) and that having WiFi on, even when your not connected, can knock your data connection out (I have been able to reproduce this once so far).
So that's it. Keep your WiFi off when you don't need it, reboot when you have problems, and hopefully it will be fixed at the end of July.
I'm very disappointed with my Verizon store. Some of the employees I talked to owned a Droid 4 themselves and said they had the same problem and still claimed it was tower work. Either they were misinformed, stupid, or they were lying to me (who wants to buy a broken phone).
My Droid 4 does this in 4G mode. I've read that it's due to the nature of SIM cards. The network constantly vets and authorizes the card's access. If this vetting fails, you get the "white out", as I call it. It might clear up on the next pass, or you might have to reboot. My "solution" is to keep it in 3G mode. As for getting a fix at the end of the month, I'm not holding my breath, as I've read that that's VZW's standard response to just get the customer to shut up and go away.
I've been having the data dropping issue as well for the past few weeks. Running stock GB, rooted with safe strap, but have yet to flash a custom ROM. I thought the issue might be because I'm on a legacy Alltel plan with PRL 14012, which is way outdated...
Well, today I believe I finally found the source of what was causing the issue for me personally, from an unexpected source...Flipboard.
I've found myself glancing at it a bunch at red lights when I'm driving, or sitting in a waiting room, etc. Today I was driving though, and noted towards the end of my trip that this was the first time in weeks the phone hadn't once lost it's data connection for the entire drive. After reflecting for a moment on what, if anything, was different about this excursion, the only thing I could come up with is that I hadn't used Flipboard since I left the house. Even though my initial reaction was to seriously doubt a respectable app like that could cause such an issue, I had nothing else to go on. So, for the hell of it, I picked up my phone and fired up Flipboard...
Within 5-10 seconds of clicking it...BAM...gray 4g icon and no data would load. Needless to say, I uninstalled Flip**** right away...then reinstalled so I could comment on it in the market, then uninstalled again, and haven't dropped data at all in the last several hours. I also took note that a guy with a Droid Razr Maxx left a comment complaining that Flipboard was actually causing random reboots for him.
I don't know if any of you have Flip**** installed, or why you're having similar data issues, but if any of you do happen to have it installed, try uninstalling from the phone...not the market. Then, turn your phone off, pull out the SD card and SIM for a moment or so, put them back in, power up the device, and see if that might possibly help alleviate the constant data dropping. If I find I start dropping data again, without Flipboard installed, I'll update this post. Good luck.
No Flipboard on my phone. I'm glad you found an answer to your problem though.

I've been having problems since Verizon turned on 4G LTE in my area. Once a day I have to remove my SIM card. If I don't, the 4G is very unreliable. Could it be a bad SIM card? Or maybe the fact that they just activated it here and they're working out the bugs? Anyone have any ideas?
I also forgot to mention, I've got a Motorola XOOM 4G LTE And have had not one single connection problem since 4G went live in my area.

I just have the data connection issue when ever i flip on wifi then disable it .. a reboot is required for data to work again regardless if i force 3g or if i am trying to use lte.. guessing it is a software bug.. i never seem to have a connection issue if wifi wasnt used prior.

My only complaint are the window transitions, blech. Yea, you can disable them, but then all the eye candy goes away completely! Ah Moto, why no middle ground?

I know this thread and comment are old, but if you use Spare Parts, you can change the Window Transition speed to Fast and then your phone seems much faster/smoother. Don't mess with Window Animation speed if you want to keep th TV-like power off blip.

I don't have Flipboard, however I noticed connection issues within 12 hours of getting my phone. At the time it was stock GB. I took it back to the store, he called tech support. Between the 2 of them, my phone was hard reset, the SD and SIM cards were pulled and the phone rebooted, they fiddled with settings, tech support tried to turn on data from their end, nothing worked. I noticed I lost my data connection when the Smart Action for battery saver clicked on. It was like it got stuck and the phone couldn't turn on data anymore. I did a factory reboot, and got data back. I turned on that first smart action, lost data connection again, it wouldn't turn back on. So I did another factory reboot, disabled that "Smart" Action, and been ok since then. I do still loose my connection, but I am able to get it back if I turn wifi on. Not sure why, but it works most of the time. Some days I still have data if I turn my wifi off, other days i have to leave wifi on if I want to use my 4g. I have my phone rooted, running GB and loving Spirit FM..(Having FM radio was the only reason why I rooted my phone..can't live without my FM!!) Is there anything I can do to get my data connection to stay on?
BTW an OTA update has occured for GB, but it doesn't seem to have fixed the problem.

Wifi losing connectivity when in Sleep Mode.

It's my only gripe with the HTC One.... When the phone's connected to my router, it flies!!
But... if I put the screen off and put it in my pocket for a while, then get it back out to do something else requiring net access...WiFi's switched off (and yes, it IS set to 'always on' in the WiFi sleep policy btw...) and I have to wait until it re-connects to the router again (which seems to take ages if you're waiting...)
I've been doing some Googling on this and it's quite common with HTC phones apparently....not everyone has it obviously, but I've found no real helpful cure yet if you DO have the problem.
I was thinking of rooting and installing a custom ROM to see if they're any better for me, but the last I knew, if you're rooted, you can't get Sky Go, and it's something I use a LOT, so that's put the blocks on that idea
Any suggestions?
There is two options. One in the power saver and one in the power menu in settings that disable data when the screen is off including wifi. Turn those off.

I hope this helps when I'm at work. I work at a hospital and having my connection to WiFi helps when I walk through areas with no singal I can then switch to WiFi calling. My phone unlike my galaxy s3 always disconnects from the secure guest services. My sgs3 hardly ever did that unless I didn't use it all night. I have to constantly re sign in every time my phone is taken out of my pocket.

Nope. Unticking BOTH options hasn't made a difference. Still having to wait for the phone to re-establish itself with the router after periods of inactivity....
I'm having this issue too has anyone found a permanent solution to the problem?

I've found after updating OTA to 4.2.2 today, the problem now seems to have gone....hopefully (might just've been lucky so far...dunno really yet!)
Have you updated too yet?

I am still on 4.1.2 and I'm in the US so we don't have the update yet.
This was one of the first things I noticed after connecting my HTC One (Sprint US) to my home Wi-Fi. It would hold the signal for a bit, maybe a few minutes, and then it would either simply no longer transmit data or the Wi-Fi itself would turn off and back on, with the subsequent connection never establishing a usable data link. Oddly enough, I got my wife an HTC One at the same time (subsidized upgrade for contract renewal), and hers appeared to be working fine, so I was concerned that I had a faulty device. Also, our previous devices (Moto Photons...) worked fine with the Wi-Fi at home as well.
After trying a myriad of settings changes, I found that only one thing worked reliably well: toggling the Wi-Fi off and then back on always resulted in a successful re-establishing of good data throughput to the router and back to the device. I decided to try and see how it performed on other Wi-Fi networks.
I took the device to my place of employment and without fail, the device stayed connected to the Wi-Fi there for the entire 8-10 hours, which only seemed to confirm that there was an issue with my home connectivity with my device only. As annoying as it may be, I am reduced to toggling the Wi-Fi off and back on when I use the phone at home, and I will remain optimistic that this 4.2.2 update fixes my problem, and if not, then I've done enough tinkering with the router at home as well as the phone to be satisfied I tried everything within my power to remedy the situation.
