update Galaxy S3 4G (LTE) GT I9305 - Galaxy S III I9305 (4G LTE + 2GB RAM) Q&A, Help &

Hi,
Firstly, i would thank all dev of this forum. You're making a greaaaat job, and i love it !! Thank you very much guys !!
Secondly, I love my SG3 (GT I9305), and i was wondering if we can hope an update based on android 8 or 9 for this phone ?
I sadly realize that the update is only available on GT I9300......
Kind regards
Cedric

No hope at all... If you search this forum you'll recognise that this has already been lengthly discussed. We're still using the i9305 daily but on RR-Nougat, which is prefectly running thanks to @rodman01.

ripee (member of teamfusion and others) contacted me a few weeks ago and asked about making the i9305 ready for oreo or pie. We texted a few and I/we made new updated device sources, compiled pie roms but unfortunately still the same: No sim card and no ril. All other is running surprisingly not too bad, and this with nearly no bug fixes or special modifications. But regarding to a possible fix for ril: no further ideas as for now. Also comicox did a few efforts to get the t0lte to run, but also with this device: no sim card and no ril, which didn't surprised me much, to be honest. He is at holiday at the moment and or but he stated: "At some point it must work". Well, lets say: we will see. From my point of view, it is and remains difficult, maybe even impossible. You can read about the last posts and activities here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...voc-os-v2-7-20190718lte-comico-t3949567/page3

pls anyone help me? i put i9305 motherbord on i9300 display but wifi , network and front and back camera not work why?

[Q] Ubuntu Touch for Galaxy S4 Active (i9295)

Hi all.
Anybody knows if Ubuntu Touch for Galaxy S 4 Active is being made?
Can we use the standard galaxy S4 build, if they manage to get it working on their system?
It is basically the same (same Processor, sound device, etc.), except for the camera.
I am willing to give 10 USD to the person who creates the first working beta
(I know its not much, but i am a student, so i dont have much money right now.. )
All the best,
Toby

It also has a different screen amongst other things, meaning it needs a different kernel - different drivers. I wouldn't hold my breath on ANY more roms coming to the i9295. It simply didn't gain enough traction!

Thanks for the pick me up
But shouldnt all that needs changing be the blobs for the CM build?
Since Ubuntu touch relies on CyanogenMod to work, and since we have a pretty stable CM rom going, couldnt we just use the blobs from the i9505 build with minor adjustments to get going?
or have i misunderstood the build process?

Heh, yes I'm a bit bitter. I'm planning to sell my active and get a nexus 5 instead thanks to the lack of developments, so I can't help but rub it in a bit on the way out. While there's been some upswing lately for the i537 thanks to safestrap, none of that translates to the i9295.

Well, I'm using the CM build from this forum as my daily user, and "pretty stable" is a good description. Not stable enough really, and the most pressing issue is the lack of official CM support to make it so. I don't know how easy it is, but quite obviously there's more to it than you'd think or it would have happened already. Samsung is (apparently) notorious for not making it easy in any way, so... I wouldn't hold out hope. Not since this device turned out to be so slowly adopted that there just doesn't seem to be enough developers interested.
Perhaps this will change over the year to come, but I doubt it, and I for one don't have time for it.

No, of course it is not easy, but what i was saying is, that when the i9505 gets going, which i believe it will, since they have been working on it for about a month now, i believe it could "easily" be converted to the i9295.
The i9505 is a lot more similar to the i9295 than the i537, they both share the same Krait processor, and the screen is already fully supported in the current CM build of the i9295, so i dont see that as a problem.
Of course it will take some time, but i believe (okay, a better word would be "hope") that when the i9505 has Ubuntu Touch ready, it will not take long for us.

[Q] What is the situation of CyanogenMod?

CyanogenMod recently pushed out stables for CM10.2 on a select range of devices announcing that, with this, their efforts would be solely focused towards the CM11 code branches. However, they also announced that any devices which received that RC1 of CM10.2 would too continue into CM11.
My question, considering we are still unfortunate enough to be on somewhat unstable nightlies (the notification sound delay, UI issues, application crashes) is, what will be the future of CyanogenMod on the O4x? Will we even make it to stable CM10.2?
Hopefully we can! This is such a brilliant device as you all know well, and the hardware restrictions of KitKat are supposed to be lowered anyway
For clarification, this is not a complaint, the work of the CyanogenMod Team is always much appreciated. I, and so many of you, have donated and thanked them and tested their software for them. This is merely to gain an understanding of where our device is headed so as to aid everybody here in the decision of whether to stick with the device or, should worse come to worse.... look for another :-/

probably no official CM11 for us, or 10.2 stable/rc, atleast in forseeable future. thankfully, we have some very skilled devs working on unofficial version of CM, & Vanir&Omni.

Thank you, I was just wondering about the state of the official ROMs, it seems like the P880 has been forgotten about by CM
But, as you say, we are very lucky to have these fantastic devs building even better custom ROMs

Can't wait to see the community development though, the new Android RunTime looks very fascinating :3
why dont u enter cyanogenmod and see with your eyes ? anyway. of course we dont see any support. its a miracle that we had that much support too. who will support a phone which doesnt even has the support of the official company ? LG only had 4.0.3 and 4.1.2 and thats all. isnt it already a miracle that we have 4.3.1 ? and we have also so many good developers that work for 4.4 ?
I don't understand why people want 4.4 so bad when it's one of the worst upgrades from Google i have ever seen. They had to launch 4.4.1 updates right away. You want a better software I agree thats needed but 4.4 isn't a solution.

Everyone wants KitKat because... Well, because it's new! Why not? I believe that pushing one's expectations beyond what is already achieved represents a strong impulse to improvement. Experimenting, trying new solutions, feeling the awesomeness of something that did not exist before is a powerful spring to the change, the change in itself is something that animates the developers and makes them work with no reward as if this was their job.
It has happened with all Android versions, and always there had been someone who felt amazed and wondered why should we need a new version.
kK can be (and probably is, but who am I to judge) one of the worst Android versions, but I am happy to see people trying to overcome all the problems related with making it work on a relatively old device, and I am happy if by testing what is being developed, and by giving my opinion I can be of some help to somebody.
Want to call it a game? Why not! Want to consider people like me as grown up kids that need something to play with? Well, yes, I am, and will always cheer a new Android version working on one of my devices with grateful heart.
Ricardo Cerqueira is no longer the maintainer of our device?
there is no one who will replace him?
It should be possible to join the CM team, if the 4.4 is running.
The tegra3 problems will hopefully not be a trap for it.
If there is a maintainer who can update CM once, there will be no real reason not to get official support.
Good news everybody!
On the CyanogenMod website, the P880 has been listed officially as one the devices to receive support further than the CM10.2 nightlies, which will be a win-win for everyone

I saw the latest list the have revealed now, this is great!!
Noticed though that they said MOST of the devices that have CM10.2 builds will move into CM11 nightly during the next weeks.. "Most" hopefully means the P880 as well!

Yes, hopefully!
But hey, a stable CM10.2 would even be fantastic, the community devs would appreciate it surely
We never got the m1 and stable so i hardly belive it that we get cm11. And without a good 3.4 kernel source from lg we wont feeo many adventafes of 4.4. but the awesome awesome optic would be nice Maybe im going to buy a Nexus 5. Im so frustrated of my lg optimus 2x and 4x. ONE update -.-

[Q] [Discussion] The end of the Galaxy S Advance?

Hello everyone, I invite you to this talk to discuss this topic
Did the Galaxy S Advance came to an end?
I have seen many developers are abandoning the Janice and migrating to other devices, it is very normal, everyone wants a change sometimes
but I worry that we're running out ROMs, I understand that this device is 2 years old but I think he had very little time to live
Anyone else think the same? please I would like to leave your opinion on this topic.

Fact is that we do not have any active developer any more. Just look at our Development section. And I am afraid that we can't do anything about that.

Wysłane z mojego nexusowego tablecika.....
i believe we must understand and accept the scenario right now, right from the beginning this device has been struggling for some serious development due to lack of sources , but our capable and smart devs made efforts and as a result we had a variety of popular roms ported to our phone, but sad thing is the transition has been huge since this phone was launched, so its natural and logical for the devs to switch to other devices and for those who are still having the phone have fear of left alone but dont worry guys i think the devs are kind enough to continue bringing good stuff if anything major happens, although not frequently as it used to be
if we have only one good rom with support, we are done there is no need of many roms if that cannot happen according to me...
infacf even we too might eventually switch to a new device sooner or later
so chill, the change thats happening is natural and quite obvious, i just hope we continue to get support for aospa and cm ,

Guys, don't cry and think a bit at past of s avance ! You know, you can't improve a phone day by day, forever. It has an end due hardware limitation.Who thought that s advance will run cm10.2/11 ? Who tought that we will overclock cpu and gpu? Everyday we opened xda (at least me ) to see if cm10.2/cm11 was released.Let's see what we got until now:
1.Cm 10
2.Cm 10.1
3.Cm 10.2
4.Cm 11
5.Cocore kernel,overclocking cpu + gpu
6.Many roms
What you want more???Overclock to 2.0 Ghz? lol.Is hardware limitation. Also, maybe it can't run Android L.
We got everything is possible for our phone and it was improved alot from stock thanks to our developers. If i would have money,i will donate to them, they deserve.Without them, probably we sold our phone in 1 year. So, every phone has an end.
PS: i forgot to mention that our roms are FULLY WORKING

i didnt mean port in winzip method of ported i said that they ported cm etc unofficially as they are called unofficial ports and i am not questioning anybody's hardwork point here is different
and of android L don't be so negative, at the time of kitkat people used to say the same thing but we got it running, so don't predict anything before devs say anything crude after its full launch...
having said that i am not demanding anything i am just being optimistic as everything that this device got was more than expected and a surprise and i am happy with what we have for now

Android 4.0 For Samsung Galaxy Pocket (Further Development Attempt)

Hello!
I have old Galaxy Pocket, and when i saw that no one even tries anymore to do anything for this little cute phone, I'm gonna do it
And first, is gonna be Android 4.0
i know people already did that... but these version's didn't work fully , all of them had some sort of problems
and that's what i'm gonna try to do, I'm gonna modify and patch one of better version's of ICS for pocket that already exists
so... i guess that's it... I'm gonna update this when i will make some progress

I am from the s5830i community and since our device share the same processor, I thought I can come and see if any of your bug fixes would work on the s5830i. Current issue is headphone routing but thing is I don't know if it is an issue for you guys with the Pocket.
Edit: Dug into the android development section a bit and found out you guys have the same front speaker and headphone routing issue.

Nope, Pocket (S5300) and Pocket Plus (S5301) have different chipset and then aren't compatible.
There's currently a 4.2 ROM for you device, but it is in very early stage.
I also have a S5301L and I'm trying to make a decent ROM for this device, but the only and hardest problem is the touch driver not working. I'll post here if I can fix that, but seems that this will be really difficult (the original dev leaved the development 4 years ago for the same reason, broken touch).

The Galaxy Pocket (GT-S5300) uses an ARMv6 processor, that core is nowadays weak and has a lot of limitations (most of them can only be passed by emulation, but as it's a weak cpu the performance would be terrible).

Understanding volte issue for pie roms

Hello first time poster here, but my question is about the issue with voice over LTE in the pie ROMs. I know its been answered before with it being the IMS issue if I am correct but looking at the thread that gave the answer I guess I didn't see a post that elaborated a bit more on it. My question is what about it in the coding , is causing the issue? I'm nowhere near a software expert but I know enough to understand the verbiage and with that I'm asking the devs here what has been hard to crack that IMS issue? I'm only asking cause I really enjoy the pie ROMs all you devs have done a fantastic job keeping this phone alive but with me being a Verizon user I know I'm doomed eventually once they cut CDMA and I hate the 18:9 phones so its hard to want to upgrade . has anyone been close to finding a solution on this ? Either way thank you all for your time in keeping this phone alive .

IMS depends on proprietary apps and binaries. The last ones we have are from android 7 and don't work on Android 9 anymore as a lot of stuff has changed.
But somebody made some progress adapting the IMS.apk lately :https://github.com/eErenYeager/ims_apk
Thanks for your answer

Thank you for that answer. It makes a lot more sense to me and if it ended at 7 I can see how it survived to 8.1 with its similarities to nougat but I hope the progress is made with adapting that new IMS for legacy devices . I also own an lg v30 but I'm back on the shamu cause I really do hate the 18:9 how dare they say the v30 6 inch is a true 6 inch like a nexus lol, but their aosp ROMs had issues with volte as well so that's why I was curious cause at first I thought it was an issue of 32bit vs 64bit . again thank you for the response.
