Can't change sound in messenger? - Huawei P20 Pro Questions & Answers

I am surprised to see that you can't change the notification sound in the stock messenger app. All I see is the ability to turn sound on/off. Am I missing something?

custom notification for Gmail in OnePlus 3T Orio, Android 8.0 OxygenOs5.0 Won't work

Tried adding a custom notification to Gmail.
Went the usual way: Settings > Sounds > "Ringtone for messages designated as Default" > local ringtones
The list of available tones on the phone comes up, but when i choose the one I want it wont sound, will appear as "chosen" but wont ring when mail comes in.
Red the threads, turned notification into .ogg, put it in same directory where all the notifications are, set -rw-r-r, and rebooted. now it shows on the list, sound when i choose it yet when Gmail gets a new mail the system will use another notification from the default list.
Any ideas ?
Have a look at Settings> Notifications> Gmail.

When i do that and reach gmail >press "gmail" logo on top> app info> battery> (bottom of scree) battery optimization > text in GRAY "doing optimization to battery" but tapping on the gray text has no reaction.
on the other hand "Gmail" does not appear on the optimization list on settings> battery> battery optimization

But, when a mail comes in to Gmail the phone chooses a different notification (other then my custom one) and ignores my previous setting

Help with notification sound

So if I set one notification under the Sounds setting, which I believed was for all notifications except the ones I have set other sounds for, the Notification sound I set under Sound settings overrides any other settings. Example: Under sound settings, choose tone 1 for notification sound, message settings sets notification sound to tone 2, tone 1 plays for all notifications including messages. On my S8 I could have different notification tones for system and messages. I'm using stock messaging app. Any ideas?
May be a messages issue as i am using separate notification tones for most of my apps e.g whatsapp, signal etc.

You can/should change individual app notification sounds via the individual app settings.
You can also set them all in Settings > Notifications > "See all > choose All from the dropdown menu. you can then click any app to change the notification settings for it.

Question Phone app incoming calls setting?

Does anybody know what the "incoming calls" sound settings are for in Settings -> Notifications -> App settings -> Phone -> Incoming calls? This only seems to list short sounds like for other text notifications etc., different from the Settings -> Sound and Vibration -> Phone ringtone, where you can pick longer "songs".
