Best ROM in August 2019 - Xiaomi Redmi 4X Guides, News, & Discussion

What is the best stable ROM in August 2019 ? I'm newbie here. All things are pretty much confusing. I know everyone has personal preferences but I want a stable for battery backup but powerful in antutu for PUBG gaming. Suggest me something new. (I've tried Pixel Experience & bored with it now.)

Hello, I have the same question.
What is the best ROM or which one is still active?
I'm also interested, which is probably the most lifelong, for which there will be updates for a long time?
I hope someone can answer the questions

Try ColtOS. Although it is a treble based ROM. It doesn't heat up whenever I use PPSSPP (emulating Tekken 6) it also has good battery back up(for me atleast). I'm sure if it does well with emulating a heavy PSP game it is going to be ok when playing PUBG. Though I haven't tried benchmarking performance on Antutu.

I am using Havoc OS 2.8 and it works great for me. feature rich including launcher too and rom is smooth and i am getting 8 hours or sometimes 8+ hours of SOT. it is on latest august security patch and updated timely.
Unfortunately my Redmi 4X's capacitive button stopped working since last 2 months and roughly 1 inch bottom screen portion stopped working and i found that there is several bubbles inside screen(i don't use screen protector) and i am using it with havoc os screen rotation, gesture and pie control. it took some time to get use to it but due to its features i am using it without changing the screen. [ Rotate life ] well it has navigation gestures but some app(s) does not support rotate (for e.g instagram) hence gesture and pie control.

Try AOSmP 3.0
Not popular, maybe u first time to hear. But i think this rom is good BB
I flashed that with Bitgapps latest build off course
And 4 me Antutu score is just a number. Like if u love somone o/ something u will ignored face and other coz feel is more important
So, try any rom and get ur feel by ur self.
Different rom, different user, different using different feel course

Is anyone fed up of the 3T

Hear me out. I think the phone is amazing. The software is crap, now the 5 is out the updates have already slowed. Not to mention OOS is always behind on security.
Now custom roms. I appreciate highly the work so many devs have been doing especially sultan, lineage and paranoid. But theres always something thats a bit off, camera especially, lag etc. Always end up going back to OOS then get bored again, try roms again.
Is there anyone else like me who has had enough of being a crack flasher or gets bored easily and has just had enough of trying to find perfection from a oneplus phone ?
What do you want to hear? Need a confirmation for yourself to get another phone to make the step a bit easier?
Yes, I hate the manner of OnePlus to not even fix a single thing, like the implementation of the Camera2 API. Sure, they lied to us more often than we want. But what company does the job better?
If you want to get a new phone: Fine. I'm also looking for a replacement. But I'm looking for phones for weeks or months, so I'm sure, the phone is good enough and beloved by devs. For me, no OP-device anymore. But really fed up? No.

I dont meed a confirmation from anyone. Ive made a topic for discussion. For instance i have a oneplus one as well ae my back up. There is more stable nougat roms on that, a 3 year old phone than there is on the newer higher spec 3t. Phones are getting ridiculous. What the hell is with these curved screens now so no tempered glass fits properly.
The next phone i get needs to be something that will have good support. Preferably from a company who releases camera sources
LAG on OP3T? wtf :0
I agree with you, I dont like OOS but i love custom roms and PA is perfect, its so smooth and optimized and their camera software is on par with OOS cam

Ive seen lag on pa rom when opening messages and settings and a few other things. It was minor but it bugged me a lot. The camera i didnt think was on par although its better than most roms. I didnt find the camera snappy enough either
Honestly stock is the best for this phone by far. Set it up right and its the fastest phone out there. Are you talking about screen lag or application lag?

Ah! I am defeateddddd! Pa had application lag. For instance it opens but messages would appear after lag and same with settings. Stock is better but i hate the delay in updates that dont fix basic bugs or update security.
My 2 cents; OOS continues to be good enough I don't even bother to unlock anymore. I was a Nexus fan for sure, but the 6P was my end of the line (yeah yeah, end of the line anyway). I had numerous issues and it finally got the bootloop problem that was plaguing many users. I got a used replacement, sold it and never looked back from the 3T. I tried most roms for the Nexus lines and while many were excellent, it was always something. When I got the 3T I decided to just leave it stock for a week and have not looked back. I get at least 2 days from it, it charges insanely fast, have had no lag/reboots/lockups, nothing. I would say I'm a fairly normal user except no social media really, privacy and all.
I keep a tab on what's new and as of today, nothing at all has tweaked my interest. Samsung/Motorola/HTC = never, too bloated. Pixel = too expensive.
I do feel the security updates are a bit slow and some additional OOS goodies would be nice, but for the price, for me it's hands down still the best phone.
Stock is the best rom, ftw

I hear you and agree with all of it. Problem with oneplus now is couple more years it will be on par with samsung pricewise. Then what? The bloated huawei honor line.
Sultans and PA are the best custom roms but they are not without their bugs.

Didn't we get like 2 betas already since the 5 is out? Also, custom roms have issues on EVERY phone. You won't find a phone where a custom rom works 100%.

I don't know and I don't care to be honest. The stable version of OOS is an inferior version of the beta at this point. The beta is 100% stable in my experience and offers more features than the stable one as you've said.

Wlan signal quality is very bad with mine.
Noticeable in many games, when it is endlessly stucked until the it the signal gets through again.
With 4G there is 0 problems, it's only this weak Wlan module, it's getting on my nerve.

Recommend me a ROM

Hello XDA
I know there is no such thing as the best ROM but I was hoping to do a little cheating and save my self some reading and get some opinions on what would fit me the best.
I use my phone as a business phone and thus my battery is dying constantly. I got ALOT of SMS and my phone is constantly slowing down. I want something that won't seem like a old device.
I want to root to install a new ROM and battery tweaks. Here are my requirements:
MUST be stable
Smooth
Good battery life
I want something I don't have to constantly tweak. With my note 4 I essentially changed so much that at the end it became such a nuisance trying to keep modding etc. I want to set this up and forget about it, unless needed.
Thanks !
Use Paranoid Android 7.2.1
Vertex OS

I understand where you are coming from, but from a practical point of view, if someone recommended a ROM, you may find your experience different from theirs. Happens all the time. Second, it's a good idea to read first. I just got this phone. All I have done is read threads here at xda. Not even so much ROMs, but reading about the phone. This step alone has saved me from myself in the past. Makes it easier to troubleshoot problems.

I agree. I have tested enough roms to conclude that for the 3T there's no point in trying to find something better than stock
Perhaps only something purely based on oxygen os, but more debloated, like freedomOS
basically it doesnt matter, 99% is all placebo.
TugaPower is out-of-box really good, which is LineageOS with some small mods (Viper4Android Audio mod ie.)

good battery life, camera comparable to oxygen os, stable and fast rom , theme option for people who don't use substratum theme engine
Beta with Magisk for root and a kernel of your choice. Get some performance and battery benefits from the kernel (if that's the type you decide to flash). Debloat it. Use Greenify and BetterBatteryStats to eliminate wakelocks.

I guess stock is the best choice here for you. It has no additional battery hungry features like viper but is still stable. You may consider flashing a kernel instead and I would hardly recommend you to read into them since that's the best way to get to know to new kernels.

I would say oos..if u want a flawless stock experience with better battery life, use freedom os..
I personally use oos open beta 12( rooted with magisk) with elemental x kernel..it gives me good battery and flawless performance..apps like substratum and viper 4 arise works fine..
Thanks for all the replies. I tried out RR and had an issue with the WiFi dropping - since this was a business phone I decided not to flash a custom ROM. I am now on OOS open beta, the latest one. Loving the parallel apps feature!
Now to get into theming and modding. I've got the basics down already like greenify, BBS.
Any recommendations on rooted apps? What have I missed in the last year or so

At the moment, I believe that Miui Pro is the best. I just installed it yesterday. It has so many additional features that I can't begin list them all, and there is no doubt in my mind that it has the absolute best battery life.
My first choice was Pixel Experience , but I didn't find options I was after, then moved to Havoc for about a week - too many options, issues with notifications and fingerprint working erraticly on online banking (issues with magisk perhaps). Now I'm settled with crDroid for now and found this quite good, Still have lineageos and few others to try. I'm wondering if any of the ROMs will show led notifications while connected to a charger?

I don't have much time to test all those ROMs, so I always choose stable MIUI ROM. I tried xiaomi.eu ROM, but battery didn't last more than 1 day and SOT was about 4 hours. Then I installed Mi Room and it works like a charm. The developer also maintains own TWRP, brings always fresh news about Xiaomi brand on his page. The major drawback is that the site is fully russian. But google translate will do the job. With this ROM I have SOT about 8 and more hours, Wifi, BT, GPS, data always on.

Then don't.
I mean I know that you know this already. But you don't have to flash a new Rom every week. Just resist the urge. I will try Mi-Room sometime. But at the moment Miui Pro is truly one of the best Rom's that I have ever used. According to GSam just now, SOT is 9 hours and 58 minutes
I stopped flashing weekly doing because it becomes too much like an addiction and takes too much of my free time away from other more important things like yelling at my kids........joking.

No its based on Beta.
Personally, I prefer the beta. But as you know you will occasionally see bugs.
I have been using the beta roms on my Mi8 for about 3 months. Honestly I only see bugs occasionally and if there is a bug, I just dirty flash back to the prior release.

I am going to bed, so I will have to give the list later. Pretty much everything you can imagine. For example, everything that I have seen in Miui Roms from Nougat up through Pie. But all incorporated within a Pie Rom. What is really useful, is the Smart Network options, the extra connections timers and battery savings scripts that go well beyond typical Miui. Plus Miu Pro has the menu animations from Nougat, not sure if you know those, the folding, unfolding, overshoot etc. It doesn't do much but its a neat looking novelty, your can import any theme, as I have mentioned the battery life is phenomenal.
I need to sleep now. Yes, I definitely love that Rom. But I will check out the ew Mi-Room rom too since I have tried it yet.

Hi Rajeev, I messaged you.
The most current version is 9.5.9. However, It is my understanding that Miui Pro is only updated monthly and 4PDA has been a great resource for me. As you may know, it's very difficult getting past the Cyrillic captcha on 4PDA so I joined the site with help from a Russian friend.
For the benefit of other readers I will reiterate something I said to you privately
I assume that OTA is one of the benefits from having a subscription.
With that being said, I have dirty flashed Miui Pro and other EU weekly beta custom roms with zero issues
Flash, dont root yet / boot to system / update google store apps / reboot to recovery/ then flash Magisk/ Enjoy
Finally, Miui Pro is so very good so I definitely recommend that any interested parties check it out. If anyone can afford the OTA subscription, I am sure that the developers would really appreciate your support. Otherwise, I know that updates via 4PDA have been ongoing for a long time, because I have used them on my other devices. Because of the long-term consistency with 4PDA updates, I have always assumed the updates posted on 4PDA are from the developers themselves and the link that I posted a couple of days ago is always updated with the latest Miui pro ROM releases as the become available.
I will most likely go for Syberia, once my Mi 8 can be unlocked, with Pixel Experience and LineageOS being the backup options.
First and foremost, I look for a ROM that provides a fast experience, good battery life and stability. Customisation options beyond that what AOSP offers are welcome, but not a necessity.
What would you guys suggest, given I don't want to use MiUI-based ROMs.

Nexus 6 in 2019

Hey, i recently bought a second hand Nexus 6 because i wanted a daily driver with custom rom and magisk, thing which is virtually imposible in my main phone (S10) so i thought the nexus will do great, the phone isnt running so bad but i think it could be better so i installed Carbon ROM and runs nice but it has some weird lags on the UI and some apps, i know this is an old device but i think it can run better, what ROM or thing can i do to get it at his best right now? Im planning to buy a new battery since i dont know how old it is (if anyone can tell me how many hours should last or SOT it could get the battery in great condition will be appreciated)
I'm planning to install the last system image from google (i dont remember the version it had when i changed the ROM) and then install LineageOS 16, that will do?
Thanks in advance for the help, i really llke this phone.

I have recently replaced my battery and a full charge lasts me a day with multiple hours sot. Sadly I don't have an exact number sot for you.
Currently I'm using Colt OS but I think you'd be fine using any any of the big roms. Some need a few reboots to stop the lag (or so I've read, I haven't had to do that yet). So just try some out until you find what works for you!
To reduce lags,
- You can reduce the resolution to 720p if you haven't already tried it (Display will appear blurry, but it will make the UI smoother)
- Try some Kernels/Kernel Manager and experiment with the provided options (May reduce the Battery backup)

How do i reduce the resolution? How it runs on 1080p?
Well i wanted to try a custom kernel but all of them are quite old, which kernel do you use?
SOT: I would say between 2 and 6 hours, depending on how you use the phone - around 4 hours typically.
Lags: it's common to have extra lag the first few days after installing a rom, until background optimizations are finished.
Otherwise, the worst lags occur if the phone has to reload the launcher or app, because of shortage of ram. Then you get delays of a few seconds.
Ram handling can be modified slightly by tweaking system parameters, but it cannot change that 3 GB just isn't a lot today.

As to whether you should replace the battery:
If you start getting sudden power offs when at, say, 30% charge, then you need to replace. That is what usually happens with a weak battery on this phone.

How do i reduce the resolution? How it runs on 1080p?
Well i wanted to try a custom kernel but all of them are quite old, which kernel do you use?

There are plenty of up to date kernels, Franco Kernel for instance.

Hmm did not notice that (usually just use kernel that came with the rom) the last time I checked it was updated. But 6 months isn't that old for the Nexus 6 right?

Personally I don't think its a lot for a nearly 6 year old device, not a lot but still not good. But that's just personal opinion.

I see no proper reason to use an outdated kernel if there are kernels with the latest security updates.

There are plenty of people still using outdated roms and kernels here, most roms here haven't been updated for a while. I did not say its a good idea or that you should... I even told you I hadn't seen it wasn't updated that long.

I'm keeping my devices updated as possible, and those security patches can be irrelevant for most people, but it's your choice and i'm personally using many financial instruments on mobile, banking apps, even some cryptocurrency wallets, so i'm feeling a little bit more comfortable with latest security patches, and of course "unlimited thanks" to people who keep this device alive :highfive:

Yeah the maintainers are legends! I'm currently using up to date software as well (same reason, banking apps etc.), just hadn't seen my recommendation had not been updated yet.

Anyone there?

I'm still around, checking this forum from time to time. Looks like its all dead.
I wondered if there is anyone out there still using this phone daily, like me.
If there is anyone, please share your ROM info too. Which ROM is the best for your liking?
I'm still using X-Los13_p880-ufoFFICIAL-201904CVE--1c6ea70874 since 01-2020.
Yep. I'm still around, too. And checking from time to time, too.
But, in the last years all is going veeery silent. That's not surprising, i guess.
My 4X HD is already in daily use, too... and i am using X-Los13 201711 (last version with QR).
Alternative is AOSP Nougat 7.1.2 or CM13/MM 6.0.1 quite good (if you don't need QR).
But... i see, you already know that!
PS: My secret favorite was always SlimKAT 4.4.4 build 9 (after Rom, install the Cyodak-X3-Kernel (!)).

Wow! Thanks for the reply.
Devs were active at the peak of Kitkat era so our device has a wide variety of KitKat based roms. I've tried many rom+kernel combination back in the day. Now 4.4.4 become completely obsolete for me as some of my -must have- apps. forcing Android 5+.
I didn't try Slimkat 4.4.4 build 9 with Cyodak X3 though. I'll try it sometime for fun!
Latest CM13 is a performance monster. If I remember correct, it also has codec tweaks too. Allowing for better bitrate video recording and/or stereo sound on recorded videos. Main drawback is unstable.
AOSP 7.1.2 is the highest Android version available for our device but it's dull AOSP.
@oF2pks 's Linage is like a balanced medium. Performance is good and it's very stable for daily use. 30+ days runtime without rebooting is almost always possible.

Sorry for my very, very my late response.
Sometimes, i use my P880 vicarious for Navigation (or for Geo-Caching) and i had never problems with GPS.
Works fine for me.
I agree with you. But with X-LOS13 i noticed that when there are more and more apps on the smartphone, booting takes longer and longer (like 5 minutes) and also generally slows down. To counteract this, i've started sorting out apps that shouldn't be booted with a reboot (i.e. only run if you open them by yourself). With this I could e.g. reduce the boot time to 3 minutes. The disadvantage, however, it takes longer to start the app (because its not preset in RAM by booting).
PS: I loved SlimKat 4.4.4. Unfortunately, there are no new apps backwards compatible (SDK/API20).

I had to re-flash LOS13 several times from this reason too.
The last time however, I needed QR code so I flashed Euphoria 5.1.1 latest 20160208 and still using it.
Raised the max. CPU freq. to 1700 too. No signs of slow down yet.
Hi! Good to see some activity!
I want to repair my old LG. The screen and touch are trashed and the battery is puffed. I found an almost free screen with LCD and battery and I'll repair it.
I remember I tried so many ROMs in this phone... The best performer was the Mourta's 4.4.4, but the battery consuption was bad. I ended up flashing the stock firmware 4.1.2, but it was still usable back in the day. Today is useless.
Just booted my P880
