Because the Diamond and TP are absolutely useless at video. I don't even bother anymore.

hehe daring the impossible...!!! HTC has no more than 25 US$ invested on the video hardware components for Diamond.

however, can any of the respected Devs of this forum mod the font facing cam 2 record HD (or even D1) videos???....not that i NEED it, but it's just good 2 have something "better" than the stock 1

AFAIK, FFC is only 2MP, to record HD? What do you expect? CMIIW.
I highly doubt this is possible.

DUH!!!!!....resolution has got nothing to do wid camcorder!!!!...even a camera with <1 MPx can technically record HD videos. E.g. - the ipod touch 4g...so a 2 MP camera can very well record HD videos
Probably it could be done 1600x1200 (2MP) is more than HD resolution (1280x720), but you have to remember, that there is some hardware involved, I remember playing with some webcam drivers back in college, and although I did managed to capture high resolution video (for that time VGA), it looked choppy like hell
I would just not bother for a result like that!

yup...and can be very steady at [email protected] fps should be technically possible in a 2MPx camera
if you have a duct-tape, then it can be solved
- buy a high-quality-cam (5MP or even more)
- strap it in front of your phone's side using the duct-tape
- voila, a greatest front-cam res you've ever got

What about electronic limitations? The CCD used in the camera might require a couple of miliseconds to actually capture the light, and then send it via the wire to the CPU. If either the CCD can't capture it fast enough, or the channel is not fast enough, you're not going to get 30 FPS no matter what magic you use in your software. That's why you have to wait for ever between shots on cheap compact digital cameras, and hardcore DSLR cameras can take snaps for a few tens of times per second.

Not all sensors can record in HD. Just because it has adequate resolution doesn't mean it can capture images fast enough to generate HD.

well...ur answer has an "yes" and a "no".
i agree all sensors cannot record HD but i disagree with the resolution problem.
video recording resolution (480p, 720p, etc) depends on the resolution of the recording camera but more importantly the "shutter speed". i feel the glitch is in the 2nd part, i.e., the shutter speed.
don't know exactly, but i feel there is a very slim remote chance if any DEV takes this seriously.

Just to be clear, you're talking about the frame rate of the sensor, not the shutter speed.
The frame rate is the number of frames the camera takes in a second.
The shutter speed is the amount of time it takes for the camera to take each frame.

yes...dats just wat am tokin bout...considering that the front cam can very well record @ 29.97 fps steadily in VGA resolution, i feel the "fps" is NOT a problem. wat do you think the problem m8 actually be???...any idea???

Bump. I have the same question. Seems that none of the reviews explored the camera settings. Any update on this?
Everything I have seen has said that it takes video at 30fps
As far as I know, slow motion requires more frames per second. So I'm thinking that's a no on slow-mo. I could be wrong though.
The only spec i see is 4k @30fps.
I hope the stock camera app will allow for 1080P or 720P at either 60, 120, or 240fps. This is really a make or break decision for me, but seeing as though there are no frame rate specs for the other resolutions yet I will probably just have to buy it and see. I'm sure the devs will have at it if it does not come factory, although I hope it comes stock.

i'm sure that video is fake. There is no proof that the video came from a nexus 6, let alone any mobile device.

The snapdragon 805 is capable of slow motion video. Even if it isn't available out of the box, which I kind of suspect it will be, I wouldn't be surprised to see some enterprising developer figure out a way to make it happen.

Even my 2 year old Note 2 does slow motion video but the Note 4 slow motion still does not capture audio with the slow mo video or do it as well as the iPhone sadly. It would be great if the Nexus 6 could do slow mo with audio & had some cool video effects like the Note line..:good:

Agreed. Since the api allows for developers to gain access to it like never before I'm sure it's only a matter of time before we see it. If I'm not mistaken the one plus one phone has slowmo recording and it uses the same camera. It's just something that needs to be implemented in the software.

Even the reviewers in many of the reviews that came out yesterday seemed surprised at how basic the camera app on the N6 is. RAW capture is the big new thing with L but the camera app doesn't capture it. Either Google has a big update in store or developers will find their own way. There have already been numerous example improvements shown with lcamera.
Anyone with a device in hand yet try any 3rd party camera apps?
You have to remember the guy who posted about the api'$ and taking raw pics it was with nexus 5 and a camera app he wrote ... won't be long b

Can someone with a nexus 6 try the app 'Open Camera' by Mark Harman (hopefully not the actor ) and hit the settings (gear) icon, Photo and video settings, Video frame rate, change it to 60 or 120 and then record a video. In theory this should bump the video up to a higher frame rate and then playback should be slow motion. Just a guess here but it is worth a try. Also I doubt this app is using the new 5.0 APIs so it may not be a true test.

Cool suggestion; just tried the Open Camera app and video recorded at 720p with 120 FPS enabled but the playback appeared normal on device. I'm going to try and run the video on my PC and see if I can find if it actually recorded in 120. I'll also try that other app and get back to you.

I tried the open camera as well as that L camera, I was able to change the framerate in the settings but it still records at 30 fps so no luck there sadly! I really hope we can get a slow motion app working someday, it's an awesome tool from time to time.
Just tried a slow motion video and it looks like it has a ton of dropped frame issues or micro pauses. Has anyone else seen this or is it a known issue?

Yes, any recording below 4K is crap on this phone. You will notice frame drops even with super steady mode also.

This mostly happens with Exynos series of phones. Although some improvements have been made since the first update, camera still fails considerably. Noise and frame drops are something which is unacceptable. We just have to create more noise for Samsung to notice and work on an update. I don't think this phone is what they said it is.
We just have to wait for next update. No wonder samsung s20 ultra scored better than S21 Ultra in camera ratings.

Yep, definitely related to the Exynos phones. I haven't had any issues with my camera app using any of the different settings or modes available. But I do have the SD888 version of the phone...

Agreed. Luckily enough, just after they had released this phone, they had admitted to their current chip having a few issues due to their manufacturing process and that their next generation Exynos chip won't have such issues anymore... So if we're lucky, that'll be in the S23 Ultra.

That anything below 4k is crap thing depends on what lens/camera you are using, 1080p 30fps is the only remotely usable one on the exynos version in low light if you are using wide angle lens. Check this out:

I have tested this phone camera rigorously. I don't think 1080p works good in either lens or mode. Slow motion and super slow motion should be removed because its useless. 4k 60 Fps is the only stable video we can take on this phone.

Hm just tried a slow motion video on my exynos version, no stutters at all. Recorded the fan of my PC rotating and moved the camera a bit, no hickups or stutter to be seen. German AUBB.

I have Exyons version. The slow motion is so smooth and there is no frame drop.
However the quality is crap in slow motion and tbh the whole video recording is not that good and has noise.
Portait video is good.

Yes, the recording quality is of no use. Especially if there's lowlight it's almost useless. Hyperlapse also has significant noise. I don't understand if people who are saying the quality is good actually get better videos or they are coming from a previous gen phone which was even worst.
No offense to anyone. But I am just so unhappy with this phone after having paid so much and Samsung portraying the phone as a beast. Its still a kitty cat.
If you have frame drops and etc, consider updating to the latest firmware. If your phone still does it after the latest firmware, then it must be deffective and you have to return it ASAP.
Additionally, I have noticed that if you turn off the Image Stabilization in the camera settings under video options, the whole noise thing becomes much better for normal recording. While it still seems to be somehow stabilizing :O
P.S. I do not mean only the supersteady option. Both have to be OFF. Please test it and share your feedback here so if it works, others can benefit from this as well.

You can try installing Gcam on your phone. I'm using Gcam6 on my redmi note 9 with pixel experience and this guy records at 60fps(not that good though)
