Cellular strength and throughput - Nubia Red Magic 3 Real Life Review

We know how much you like to stream, ahem, "videos", and so cellular data is mega-important. Rate this thread to express how you think the Nubia Red Magic 3's LTE performs. A higher rating indicates that it's fantastic: throughput is excellent and signal strength is top-notch.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add.

I cannot get LTE Carrier Aggregation to work when I know the processor and modem can definitely handle it. Is it something Nubia has intentionally disabled? I have heard of other Chinese OEMs like Xiaomi and Lenovo doing the same thing. I don't know if its to save on licensing costs or another reason.

Thanks

Does anyone have the
ZTE Nubia Red Magic 3S Premium Edition Global Dual SIM TD-LTE 256GB NX629J and running on Tmobile?
Appreciate any feedback.

How is the cellular reception strength, 2G/3G, 4G? How is the call quality? Is VoLTE working in India?

Yes it is, had the rog2, returned it because of the lack of Volte and Vowifi but main reason was my seller messed up phone so was unable to update it and was unable to switch fingerprint either. Ended up sending it back and got refund.

I would prefer vowifi too, but I'm quite happy having volte. Asus f'd up not including it. Idiots. I will be looking into vowifi...no promises though. Someone on tg is complaining about the display on the rms3, which I find odd. Mines great.

Definitely understand, no issue with display either. The screen protector it comes with is a little bit cheap. Going to buy Front and back protectors from Mobile Outfitters. They make great products especially for hard to find phones.

I immediately ripped of the screen protector. I never use them. I rooted, and used substratum to theme too.

Its does only for a few minutes but after the time it stops. Xiaomi service center in kerala especially in ernakulam kochi is the worst . They take almost 1 week to replace .

What did you expext for 150$?
This topic is utterly weird. It's not even problem with the phone. Blame the charger brick, not phone! I have RN4 Global and it's great phone. Doesn't heat even little and battery life is very impressive. And if that's what you call cheap materials, I don't know what could make you happy. Phone made of sapphire and titanium?

NFC is not that widely used in India. And we have to consider the price segment.
well, sony had nfc in this segment already with M2 model, even before the fingerprint scanner, and that was somewhat too soon. now, with probably all SOC supporting it, they should just put a small antenna in it, that's not such an expense.
Xiaomi is preparing MiPay for India with NFC use, probably GooglePay is also interested.
Oh well, I'll try to cancel my order..
(are you with Asus India, or do you have that same phone? gsmarena is saying yes to nfc, but it's a different phone code, another specs site says yes, on flipkart one buyer said yes, another no, asusindia not responding on social media about this, ..)
I'll give it 3.5 out of 5
Nice all-rounder
Go for this if u want a big battery
Otherwise go for mia2 or w8 for A3

What are your impressions

So those of you who bought it, what are your impressions? Is there anything you don't like about the phone?
Hi, I have the 128GB Tencent version since almost a month.
So far can't be happier with it; great screen, audio, performance, design, software and battery life. They really improved on the OG ROG phone in every aspect.
Google services and all my apps work flawlessly, and although I'm not an avid photographer, the cameras seem decent.
Extra bonus points for a headphone jack and the LED lights (both the small front one and the rear flashy one).
128 GB seems more than enough for my needs and thus far the Chinese ROM hasn't been bothering me at all, after some small tweaks.
In summary, the best phone I've had until now (and I pretty much owned every worthwhile Android flagship every year)
Only issue I have is that the accessories aren't available yet. Other than that, best phone I've ever owned in terms of everything. 128gb version here as well and I just have a portable micros reader I plug into the bottom port for serious emulating.

How is the brightness in sunlight?
I own the 512gb 12gb CN Version. Quality of the phone feels nice. I like the weight and how it feels in two hands and in one hand via gaming. My only complaint is the brightness. Wish it was a bit brighter.
Just waiting on the twinview dock II then I'm set.

Because of this question I went out to my driveway and decided to test it out myself. This is probably one of the better screens I've seen in direct sunlight. The one thing that's probably making a difference is the fact that I have the dark theme on the phone and it makes it a whole hell of a lot easier to be able to view the screen while I'm typing or doing whatever in my driveway. Full sun, 82 degrees, and I can read this screen perfectly fine without an issue... Sans the fact that I need bifocals in my old ass is not able to read this small ass text as much as he used to be. In short, this is probably one of the best screens I've seen dealing with the ability to display text in direct sunlight.

My first impressions are that I really like the weight, the touch response, speed of everything, and holy crap! The audio is amazing coming from the phone without headphones. I genuinely hope that the modding community does get around this phone. if not, I'll have to get rid of it and get the actual international version so I can get some additional or better band coverage, but for I live in Ohio so far bands 2 and 4 have not been an issue and I think that I saw 1900 show up, but that was just for a moment before one of the other bands picked up. This battery is amazing. there's some tweaks you can make to it within the system settings to allow it to last longer and it provides you some estimated times until it is about to die oh, so that's really nice. I don't want to reach you my cabbage since I already posted some comments in the USA Buyer thread, but feel free to ask me any questions about it if you don't own the phone if you want to know some information about it or off of it.

Not sure what will show in the images. I went outside, found a flowering plants. 16:9, HDR Enhanced.
...185624=1x
...185715=2x

...185844=8x
Sorry for the blur. Did my best to set still.
They're set at default resolution... 4k x 2250 I think. Like 4MB each. HDR Enhanced required a little more time for exposure. If you think additional pics or a vid or two would help, lemme know. I'll see what I can do

My mate 20x has way way better camera
Even oppo realme x has way better camera than rog 2
Rest is amazing
I recently bought rog phone 2 from flipkart in India. My device is working fine. But i noticed there is one problem with the phone and it had happened many times that it automatically reset its network.
Like it automatically turns off wifi ,both sim signal for 10 sec and turn it back on again. This happens once or twice in a day at any period of time.
Sometimes network goes blank and i need to restart the device.
Please help me out if anyone finds the solution. Or people having the same problem.

And just port GCam onto the phone like I did, the Night scape images with GCam are almost equal to iPhone 11's Night mode.

How does the wired headphone volume and sound quality compares with mate 20x?
Love it! I got mine for $300 shipped brand new, since I had $200 in ebay gift cards! So much bang for the buck!!
Awesome phone
Fast, responsive, the fastest 4G i've every experienced, and that screen! The FPS is also fast too.
I sold my Note 10+ as the ROG2 just kills it in almost every way. Probably the only thing that was better on the Note10+ was the triple camera setup. But TBH, for what I do with photography, its perfectly fine - and there's always Snapseed for minor corrections.

I got the A90 5g as a contract upgrade about a week ago. I have unlimited 5g data as part of my plan but don't currently have 5g in my area until early 2020, so can't comment on the 5g but I managed to unlock the boot loader and root it. I will attempt to create custom recovery for it but that will take much longer.

That's great news, thanks for working on this phone
I will post a quick guide later tonight.
As far as the phone itself. I love (nearly) everything about it. The screen is large, the display looks great and is bright, the cameras are the best I've used (although I'm no expert by any means), it runs really smooth. Even some of the Samsung bloat is useful like game launcher. The battery is fantastic, charging time is very fast. Gaming performance is A++ with the flagship CPU.
"Bad" things....6gb of ram, I had a RAZR phone with 8gb and you can tell the difference. I see they released a version with 8gb but alas mine isn't.
The fingerprint sensor doesn't seem to work as well in the screen as opposed to on the side or back where I'm used to it.
I also got this phone for "free" with my contact, I wouldn't exactly call £700 gbp mid range and I certainly would not have bought this on sim only. The Asus ROG would have been my choice with much better specs and a cheaper price tag albeit losing the 5g.

Guess i have to wait for the global firmware or middle east cuz i reside their atm :crying: otherwise like what you said an awesome phone only downside 6GB RAM.
Thanks for sharing
Have to disagree with the ram comment. I also had and still have my Razer. The most ram i seemed to have in use on the Razer was around 3Gb meaning 4-5Gb Ram was just sat there... On my A90 theres still 2.1Gb of ram still not being used. The battery management miles better on the A90 than the Razer. The 120Hz LCD screen ate the battery after the last update (9) whereas the OLED panel is brilliant on the A90. DPI and resolution not as high as the Razer, but the overall picture still looks better on the A90. I do miss the Dual Dolby Atmos speakers on my Razer but the "Free Galaxy Buds" sound brilliant.

Yep, but for the Tencent 550$ version? I don't want to waste double price for 12 "useless" GB RAM and 512GB ROM I will not use them...

The lower spec Tencent version is not avaliable officially from Asus outside China and India, you can get it from China but you would need to convert it yourself to WW rom and change the fingerprint to WW rom. And you also won't get the official warranty from Asus.

I've to change the fingerprint reader (hardware)? Beh... In that way I would not use it. Not the fastest in the world... Face Unlock and done.
looks more like due to change of refresh rate.... higher refresh rate more red tint
Mine does also perform a slight change when switching between refresh rates, but I can't tell if there is an actual color change or just a brightness adjustment as it is very subtle. I considered this to be normal until now

Are you dumb or what? Just because all have it doesn't mean it's still a display issue. Issue most of us have confirmed is by software and not the display.

I'm with you on this, regardless of whether it's hw or sw it's just a non issue. Haters will be haters.

Nope, it is hardware issue as there is no OLED screen without red tint issue. It is manufacture limitation. The only thing which phone maker can do, shove of display which had a lot of red tint (practically what expensive phone maker do (strict and better QC and QA)) and/or fix it via software (by playing with color, limit contrast and brightness (lot of phone maker do this)).
Dark grey in particular is very hard color to do it right (even on IPS panel). There will always something wrong with the implementation especially on low light condition. This is what Apple (and to some degree Samsung) good at (lol) and Google to boast their Pixel device.
Yes, the tint problem is HW but most of the times manufacturers try to make it less obvious by changing the frequency of the display or the voltage etc. Samsung has done a great job on 2019 devices as my father's A40 has an almost perfect display in terms of color accuracy and brightness
But i've tested the 5% gray test picture on both iphone x and blackberry priv and both of them showed a greenish tint and not much uniformity.
That's why i will always be in love with my old Sony x compact lcd display, it was perfect in every single aspect and I was never worried about burn-in issues.
Still dont understad why people prefer oled to a well made lcd...

Confirmed software. There's another thread on here with a color control mod, and the issue goes away.
I'm pretty sure it's deliberate. For some bizarre reason.
