WiFi-6 on OP7 pro? - OnePlus 7 Pro Guides, News, & Discussion

I just saw a news article saying Qualcomm said they have the capability built into the 855 chipset but has not getten the licensing. They're calling it Qualcomm fastconnect.
https://www.androidauthority.com/qualcomm-fastconnect-1022505/

No it does not
Source: have OP7pro and Asus Rapture AX11000 router

ax wifi ?
5G..., all SF, beautifull story, but all internet sites are limited. Very!

I asked OnePlus via Twitter if the OP7Pro would have it and they said no.

Wi-Fi 5 on OnePlus 7 Pro

Nope, the Snapdragon 855 uses the older WifiBT chip so I do t know how to unlock it. Maybe take another Fastconnect 6200 phone and use that software to make it work.

It's more then just a firmware trick, there's hardware requirement for WiFi 6

100 dollar Mi5c achieves twice the speed of the op3t.. Plus that when I bought the phone, MIMO was advertised as a feature without mentioning the other defects most users deal with

Are you sure MIMO was advertised? Are you sure was not MU-MIMO? Because it is a huge difference. Indeed Snapdragon 821 supports MIMO but Qualcomm do customise the chipset according to OEM demands. You got a top range device for a fraction of other flagships. And with a premium build aswell. To keep the cost low, some cuts must be made. Therefore OnePlus decided to cut costs by not offering MIMO support.
Indeed MI5c do support MIMO. How you came with $100 for it I don't know. But whatever. Be it your way. The price is irrelevant anyway. For $100 you have MIMO woohooo. But to have MIMO and such a low price, Xiaomi have made other compromises. A cheap in-house build chipset build on 5 years old technology (ARM53 cores), a cheap and outdated (2 years old) GPU.

Xiaomi mi9 has dual gps, someone tested gps accuracy?

This time xiaomi mi9
should use dual gps
integrated with the Qualcomm 855 chip.
The Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform supports dual-frequency GNSS, leveraging the Galileo E1 / E5a signals as well as the GPS and QZSS L1 / L5 signals to produce a more accurate and robust location in dense urban , according to the European GNSS Agency (GSA.)
Xiaomi mi8 previously used dual gps broadcom.
What impressions do you have with this gps?
Is there really any difference? On normal phone you get about 3 metres accuracy, which is really good. Other question is whether You can get more in civil use

From my experience even the best conventional GPS can still occasionally get confused, especially around city (presumably due to "urban canyon" signal multipath effects).
I'm very interested to see how well the Snapdragon implementation of dual-frequency GNSS (as in the Mi 9) actually works in practice.
I understand that app developers are already interested in leveraging higher-accuracy GPS, for example Navigation apps telling you to change lane when necessary on a multi-lane highway (as opposed to, say, telling you to keep to lane 2).
Doesn't seem anymore accurate than my old phone, a OnePlus 3. Still has the typical GPS-drift behaviour you see on GPS devices.
Used it last week on vacations while exploring Vienna over 4 days, overall good, at times confused but solved after re calibrating (when it asks to move the phone in a 8 motion), so nothing to complain.
Used easily to explore and get around sightseeing.
Used today quite a bit in Manchester UK. Same as OP 6T. Nothing special, occasionally having to drive a hundred yards to get a lock on, then having to do a U-turn.
P30 and P30 pro has dual gps,
Cant find how to change a-gps setting on Setting menu

I used navigation for the first time yesterday with this phone, has dual GPS turned on. Dont know if it works properly where I am in the US or not. Navigation seemed the same as any other phone I have used, no better and no worse. Didnt really expect it to be better though as I am moving fast in a car. I would think dual GPS would probably help the most when walking somewhere and you actually care about an accuracy difference from 10ft to 3ft.
Lock on speed was the same from what I could tell as my last few phones, and it didnt lose lock at all.
Good news.
Emui 9.1 with huawei p30 pro.
Has full dual gps-l1 and l5 support.
Gpstest already detects l5.
Now we are waiting for emui 9.1 for mate 20 / mate 20 pro/honor view 20
Oppo Reno 10x hybrid zoom version uses dual-frequency GPS.
Today, OPPO’s Vice President, Shen Yiren, discussed a few details about the OPPO Reno series. Shen Yiren said on Weibo: “The 10x hybrid zoom version uses dual-frequency GPS.” The dual-frequency GPS function provides more accurate positioning. Another Chinese manufacturer, Xiaomi, was the first to apply the technology to mobile phones. The Xiaomi Mi 8 supports L1+L5 dual-frequency positioning and its accuracy is at least 3-5 times better. It is more resistant to multipath and reflected signals in urban scenes and has higher immunity to interference.

Much better than the one on the Mi 8.
If find it has much better reception (I see GPS+GALILEO+GLONASS), fix speed and accuracy than my GPS-only phone. Really nice, however there's no SBAS support for some reason (although the 855 should support it).
Dual GPS is great. Much better than my previous device.

And?
I live in a city with a lot of tall buildings etc, and the lock is instant and the accuracy excellent. I have no issues with this phone's GPS.
for me, it's little less accurate then my old single gps phone, not better
I have tested dualgps Mi9 (MIUI 11.0.5.0), it supports GPS L1+L5, Galileo E1+E5a, QZSS L1+L5. It really fast & accurate.
They only problem was the A-GPS connected to Chinese satellite, not Google.
I have a question.
Redmi note 9s has snapdragon 720g.
Which supports dual gps.
Unfortunately on stock miui and
European Miui newest
Gpstest does not detect dual gps or galileo.
There are only l1 gps, glonass and Chinese.
I have root.
What to change in gps.conf to make it galileo and dual gps?
could you please post GPSTest screenshots ?

Why should I buy this phone over the pixel 3,oneplus 7 Pro or oneplus 7t?
OP7 Pro would be a great choice. 90Hz display, UFS 3.0 and the most important one is the richest development community vs the other two. But be aware of that there is some reports of defected units.

Those phones have:
- Wireless charging (Pixel 3)
- 90Hz Display (Oneplus)
- UFS 3.0 (Oneplus)
- Fast near-stock android updates (OxygenOS updates really quickly and is beautiful, stock android is great as always)
- Minorly better cameras (Oneplus)
K20 pro / Mi 9T Pro has:
- Significantly cheaper price (just over half, in some cases)
- Wireless charging can be resolved with an extension
- Display refresh rate can be resolved with rooting android P (Q only goes to 72Hz right now, but 90Hz support coming soon)
- UFS 3 is disadvantage, but not by much!
- MIUI: MIUI11 is amazing, 10 isn't bad, and the phone can easily be rooted to resolve these
- HEADPHONE JACK!!
- Full screen display!
All phones have:
- Fantastic cameras
- Google Camera App support (powerhouse behind Pixel 3's cameras)
- Beautiful displays, even if refresh rates aren't equal
- Snappy processors and fantastic speed (You won't notice lag)
- Long-term OS support
- Large communities (varying levels of support)
All in all: If you have the money, I'd definitely suggest going for the Oneplus 7 Pro, 7T, or 7T Pro
But if you're looking for a phone giving you the best value for money with a headphone jack? I'd definitely suggest going with the Mi 9T pro.
I couldn't wish for anything more (Except a micro-sd card slot, but that ain't there on the oneplus phones either)
After looking into it some more I don't think the limited frequencies/bands are going to cut it with the Mi 9T pro. I'm in the US and using AT&T, as of right now the bands are adequate with the towers I use however my research shows AT&T is actively implementing band 66 for LTE and I like to keep my phones for 4 years or so. I'm coming from a OnePlus 2 so I need to future-proof somewhat if possible.

Fair enough. I use T-Mobile (Technically, Ting, which runs on T-Mobile) so 2/3 of the primary bands (2 and 4) are secure, only missing band 12.

Interesting phone, i wanted to get it, but asus decided to remove sd slot, and to put usb 2.0 type-c port. There is nothing flagship about that
I know that doesnt matter to most users, but cmon, its 2021... Usb 2.0 on a sd888 16gb ram ufs 3.1 phone???
Hope to see twrp and some good rom too it soon
Just placed my order.
Have 14 days to try it out and to see if it will replace my IPhone 12 mini.
Truly fantastic phone. instant buy.
Hope GCam will be available for non root device.
Question to the Asus longtime users.
Is there any way to get the phone cheaper at launch? some special promo ot stuff?
Can someone verify if there will be a USA release? The current spec sheet doesnt have compatible 5g bands for T-Mobile.
@Haldi4803
here in Germany there is a little Promo for Pre-Order
and a Shop sell the 128gb with 8GB for 599€
How is the ASUS politics about bootloader unlock and de-googling phones? I would buy it as soon as I can use it without Google.
The battery life seems really pitiful and with that 33w lackluster charging I do not feel it's that great a device these paid reviewers are making it to be. 5.5 hours SOT is not something to boast about.
It would've been perfect if ASUS would've chosen the Snapdragon 870, which makes sense considering the mediocre cameras that don't even need the DSP of the 888 and almost equal performance to it and much better throttling/thermals and battery efficiency.
So sad.

No, Ubuntu is not feasible at the moment, unfortunately their OS is not compatible with many phones and they do not have all the apps. Yes, I know you were ironic, btw.
FYI, I would like to use it with LineageOS or similar ROMs, without gapps, for a variety of reasons:
Because I do not need most of Google apps and services;
Because Google Play Services eats battery doing things I do not want to,;
Because I like having more control of what is happening on my devices;
There are also a privacy concern which is real, Rob Braxman on YouTube can tell you more about that.
Regarding my initial question (that you haven't replied), I suppose I will keep monitoring the XDA and 4pda forums and see how things will evolve.
Asus provide bootloader utility for previous devices, should be up for zenfone 8 soon.
I will add signature spoofing and degoogle stock rom. I have done it for all my devices: improved battery life and full control.
When is the phone going to be released in the UK? Cannot find any information whatsoever?

Did you try any of Asus previously published unlock apps? For example, this one looks rather generic:
https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/ZenFone/ZS670KS/AsusUnlock_1.0.0.7_210127_fulldpi.apk
EDIT:
I was right, I think.
Asus actually published the same unlock tool under the ZS690KS folder:
