Android Q for Mi A2 - Xiaomi Mi A2 / 6X Questions & Answers

Tomorrow (September 3, 2019) Pixel devices should get update to new android Q. Does anyone know release date for Mi A2? Phones that are in android one program should get update pretty fast asi well right?

Probably in Dec 2019 -Jan 2020 (or after). How much time later did we get 9.0 after it was released?

Really? That late? I though like moth or so

We got Pie on mid December last year

It might be a little later than that. We should be looking at the date the Mi A1 got Pie, since the A3 is already out and should have priority over the Mi A2.

A3 will get it within a month of Android 10 release, as indicated by Manu Kumar Jain..

I remembered that I downloaded it in November when I was traveling... So it should not take too long.

One big difference though... Mi A1 does not have trebble, Mi A2 does. So at least in theory, it was easier to do Pie for A2 than it was for A1, which can account for part of the difference of delay.
If that would be the case, we could hope to get it close to A3, but let's not get our hope too high, it's Xiaomi.....

But the hardware specifications and chipsets are mostly same. Just a minor difference like camera battery. The chipsets and processor which is running system os and apps are mostly same. So I am expecting it will come fast.

Let's hope Q/10 is better; Xiaomi couldn't make One good Pie..

What about beta testers?

I hope you're all right and Xiaomi releases 10 sooner than last year. Though I have my doubts.

Just hope it fixes Android Auto for which just won't connect.

Chipset is different (SD 660 vs SD 665). Even if close numbers, different chipset means different drivers, and drivers are needed for any components anyway, not just the core chipset. So I don't agree with your comment
However, as I mentioned in another post, Treble is supposed to decouple drivers and OS, and since A2 has Treble, we can hope for quicker deployment of new Android versions vs Mi A1 that did not have Treble.

How long till a Custom ROM comes out for the Mi 8?

Hi, have been wanting to get the Mi 8 for a while as I prefer it over the Oneplus 6, but I was wondering when would a custom ROM actually come out for this phone? Or any idea on some sort of time span? As I'm not keen on using the MIUI and would rather have like the Pixel Experience or something stock instead with the spec and the camera of the Mi 8.
I think active development is starting after Android P is released.
Android P does have notch compatibly so the os will function normally.
Anyway, give it some time this device is a few weeks old mostly development starts after some months.
BTW I moved from a Oneplus 6 to a Xiaomi Mi 8!

Whats your opinion of them both?
The haptic feedback on the Mi 8 is massively better, and I like the camera on the Mi 8 more and the size.
I had a few ago a note 4 got much fun of it, and I went away from Xiaomi because the lcd quality was horrible.
So since the Mi 8 has a amoled Samsung panel it was a insta buy for me.

well i think mi8 is a nice phone
but wont give up my op6 for it
Waiting till kernel sources will be out for dipper ... thats the only thing that is left to start building
The handset does not appear to have been launched in its Global variant yet. I think this is part of the slow development.

Project Treble and Note9

Should we expect Android 9 to come to the Note9 faster than previous updates on notes due to project Treble? Is that thing actually doing anything? The Note8 took FOREVER to get Oreo. Was that a Project Treble phone too? If so, I guess I should anticipate waiting until like February/March again, which is a shame for a flagship phone like this. I'd be pleased if it was out before 2019 begins. That's more than enough time I think.
What do you guys think?

I wouldn't expect anything. Different but what do I know. The note 8 wasn't a treble device though.
I doubt you will see Pie before March April time frame.

That would be worse than the Note8 Oreo time frame! It had better be better than THAT! Haha.
Good to know that the Note8 wasn't Treble. I was not aware. That's encouraging!

Exactly, 8.1 has been out six months or so and I thought treble would make those smaller updates more timely.
Dont expect update on this for a while. One of the reason why im holding on this phone. Samsung extradegy is always release their new flaship with the updated OS while leaving other phone behind. We wont see android pie on the note 9 until after the GS10 release in march (or so) with pie include has the new OS. Samsung will just release security patches every 2 or 3 month until this.

Somewhere in that neighborhood, yeah. It would be cool if the same happened on the Note9!
treble might provides updates a bit faster but I have had the galaxy s3, s5, s7e,s8 and now note 9 and updates were always very late and I think it would always be like that. maybe faster with treble but won't ever get updates as fast as others and we are going to wait months but I am sure no one has bought the note 9 or samsung phones for the fast updates ^^
After all the hulalbaloos and deep dives, lately I've been pronouncing it as "project trouble" for Galaxy flagships.
Working Pie GSI Rom for S9+
Since the hardware is exactly the same, will it work with Note 9?

i have stopped myself from getting samsung since years ago due to the poor software updates. And i do not expect note 9 to be faster than any predecessors. i would still be alright if note 9 will never get Android Pie till 2020 (or neveR). Thats samsung and people should have expected that. Reasons i got myself the device was due to the 5 pillars of smartphone which Note9 did well, go watch the video by mkbhd.
This is really good news! Already, there is a Pie version of S9+ with Samsung Experience 10! It may be in its infant stages, but as the article mentions, that's at least a couple months faster than the last cycle (to Oreo), and this seems like a larger update.

I'm pretty sure that last year the registration for the S8 Beta program began the first week of November and the first official beta release was just after that (I think around the 5 November or something like that).
Here, we have just a leaked firmware, around 1 month earlier than last week official beta. So don't get too excited.
Edit : I did a quick search and I find that the second beta firmware was released on the 10th of November last year.
https://www.google.fr/amp/s/www.sam...-android-8-0-oreo-beta-firmware-released/amp/
So, I really doubt things will be quicker this year.
Well if the Pie update is indeed released in January, then that would be a pretty big improvement in my world (especially with how much more significant of an update this is)! Project Treble for the win?

I hope they will take time and finally polish out the bugs that are in there!
i think i'm seeing a pattern with security updates, they usually release on the second working week of each month. (i assume they beta test the first week)
so for feb it should be this week as first week of feb was holiday. we'll see i guess, i agree, nice to have good stable updates rather then buggy rushed ones. sure, it's nice to have security patches on time but android one devices are miles ahead of the pack anyway so couple weeks after pixels sounds good.
edit: ok, there's definetly a pattern, second working friday each month - will confirm over the next months...

Same here. Just installed it and no problems.
Someone has a changelog?
Hi, I have just updated my Xiaomi A2 with the Februari update. After installing, the phone is in normal operation mode. Then it said that I had to restart the phone.
After restarting, the phone keeps hanging in the white Android One start screen. Even the screen keeps on for minutes. I can't do anything. Also no hard reset or something else.
Do you do have any ideas?
Installed the update. Yay! Lag with on-screen keyboard is gone!
installed on MI A2, no problems after restart
ask for changelog for mia2 ? from xiaomi ? LOL
maybe......the next year
anyway...no problem after update/restart V10.0.4.0
Just received February update, 302mb.
Somebody can share stock boot.img for last OTA?
For some reason my display is now oversaturated, to the point where my eyes hurt lol. Can they launch an update and not break something for once? Jesus.

MIUI 11 Update List But MI 9 Not in list

Yesterday I noticed the lastest update phone list that will get MIUI 11 in a few days but matter of sorrow that MI 9 is not in that list!!
Why is that?
That's because your picture is the global rollout for India.

We're in batch 2. (early november)
If cause for this is more polishing and bugs removal them it's not a biggie, at least to me!
Strange how this year's flagship gets pushed to the second batch along with phones 2 years old while last years flagship and current mid-range phones go to the front.
They're struggling with the 855 devices it seems, they don't even say it will come early november so they're definitely not even sure of that.

Any news on K20 Pro China updates? Been 3 months, still on Nov security patch

Can't really blame the lack of updates on Luna New Year, Corona or 10 series release because Mi 9T Pro has received 2 updates since December, what's going on? Not even a scrap of news or rumor of a update anytime soon.

You'd think China rom would get updates more frequently given Xiaomi is a Chinese company but no, eea, global even Indian version Raphaelin k20 pro is getting updates but not us. It's disappointing, China rom imo is the best after debloating and if you ignore that space after apostrophe when using English and lack of security updates.

No it's not EOL, Xiaomi are still releasing regular beta Chinese ROMs for this phone. Unfortunately this is the same with almost all manufacturers, once the initial round of serious bugs have been fixed, stable branch updates come at a glacial pace. Even though Google have recently tried to tie in manufacturers to guaranteed updates for x years, in order to get Google certification, we still do not see this happening from most manufacturers beyond the first 6 -12 months. This is why I first started, with the original Samsung Galaxy S, and continue to use, custom ROMs.
