Any news on K20 Pro China updates? Been 3 months, still on Nov security patch - Redmi K20 Pro / Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro Questions & Answe

Can't really blame the lack of updates on Luna New Year, Corona or 10 series release because Mi 9T Pro has received 2 updates since December, what's going on? Not even a scrap of news or rumor of a update anytime soon.

You'd think China rom would get updates more frequently given Xiaomi is a Chinese company but no, eea, global even Indian version Raphaelin k20 pro is getting updates but not us. It's disappointing, China rom imo is the best after debloating and if you ignore that space after apostrophe when using English and lack of security updates.

Hey mate just wanna let you know if u don't know already that about 2 days ago they released 11.0.7 China stable, no news, nothing in all the telegram channels I'm in, nothing in updater app only found out by browsing through eu.miui sourceforge. Don't know the changelog but downloading now, finally we get a update.
E: What's New
Optimization: system stability
Optimization: reduce system lag
February security patch

The phone is end of life. This is new Xiaomi politics... After 9 years with Xiaomi phones this is last for me.

No it's not EOL, Xiaomi are still releasing regular beta Chinese ROMs for this phone. Unfortunately this is the same with almost all manufacturers, once the initial round of serious bugs have been fixed, stable branch updates come at a glacial pace. Even though Google have recently tried to tie in manufacturers to guaranteed updates for x years, in order to get Google certification, we still do not see this happening from most manufacturers beyond the first 6 -12 months. This is why I first started, with the original Samsung Galaxy S, and continue to use, custom ROMs.

MIUI 11 Update List But MI 9 Not in list

Yesterday I noticed the lastest update phone list that will get MIUI 11 in a few days but matter of sorrow that MI 9 is not in that list!!
Why is that?
That's because your picture is the global rollout for India.

We're in batch 2. (early november)
If cause for this is more polishing and bugs removal them it's not a biggie, at least to me!
Strange how this year's flagship gets pushed to the second batch along with phones 2 years old while last years flagship and current mid-range phones go to the front.
They're struggling with the 855 devices it seems, they don't even say it will come early november so they're definitely not even sure of that.

Firmware updates - news and discussion

Hello,
I am surprised we still don't have such topic to discuss.
PS. I use OnePlus 7T Pro (EU) and my fw is 10.0.9 with security patch from 1st of may. Since it's almost end of July i find it quite disappointing. I've always thought OP was one of the quickest fw update provider.

I have no choice, but I didn't ask for advice.
Open Beta is meant for specific type of users and it's a topic for totally different discussion.
Decision to provide only beta firmware with up-to-date security patches and skip stable releases is plainly ridiculous. Basically, If you want latest security patch you gotta settle with probably semi-buggy firmware. Well done OP.
It is my third mobile phone from OnePlus and yes the phones before got fast updates every time. Since my 7T Pro McLaren there are very rare updates and the software have some bugs. I think OnePlus is bigger now and they are think now we are famous we have enough buyer.. i don't know... price for my 3T was 479 Euro and now for the 7T Pro over 800 Euro...
Huawei are went the same way... to the begin the phones was cheap..after a few years the phones was very expensive... And quality is not the best from OnePlus now.. my other OnePlus are very stable.. i have case on every phone. on my new OnePlus I have the case from McLaren and i looked after a time behind the phone and it is broken... WITH the case... sorry, but i Think that is not good.
I consider the "beta" releases as stable as I've yet to encounter any bugs introduced by them and the "beta" label is more of a warranty for the manufacturer if things don't work as expected. Also the schedule for the "beta" releases is now monthly. The more devices they have to develop for the worse it will be for releases of any kind.
But we havent Android 11 beta till noe... Few other brands have Android 11 beta for a few phones of their lineup. The only mclaren phone with 11 beta is the newest...

I don't think so. It's not like stable OTAs are always bugsfree. Bugs happen. Manufacturers don't need such "warranty".
What message would OP send? "Hej, We do not provide regular software updates. However If you want to get your security patch updated you may flash our test fw, but please bear in mind you do it at your own risk".

Yes, there are no bug free software, yet, if the betas were labeled "stable" we probably would not be having this conversation.
The "waranty" actually exists as if you install software on a production environment and it leads to catastrophic failure or other major losses the manufacturer may be held liable for any damages, stamping a "beta" label releases them from such responsibilities as its not complete software and the client was aware of it upon installation.
The "stable" build is one month older than the "beta 6" and before even the betas were being released with outdated security patches.
Alpha build: incomplete feature set and buggy
Beta build: complete feature set but may have bugs
Gold/stable build: complete feature set and no bugs (they think).
I've seen many software going from beta to stable without changes because no bugs were found.
I think the problem here is "peace of mind".
That's true, but still betas cannot be considered as replacement for stable builds. Open beta program is obviously good option to have but since it's a warranty for oems it's more or less lottery for an user as well.
As I said before not every user is willing/should be forced to go Beta but every user has right to monthly security updates.
OP was supposed to be one of the best on that matter, sadly it's not. They are in fact not better than huawei - that is known for being very bad at it.*
*Huawei has just released july patch for p30.

Beta software is not being considered a replacement for stable and are not a lottery, beta builds are tested before delivery but the level and duration of the tests is not the same. Code that is compiled and delivered without testing are nightlies and that is the dangerous software. I opt in for beta builds in all possible apps on the playstore without issues.
I also went for OP because of the updates and for me they deliver but that's just me.
OP8 was delivered to market with some issues although they probably thought it was stable and was released as stable. I only take caution with alpha or lower labels.
What you want is more like Microsoft's "Patch Tuesday" but stable software requires extensive validadion and hardware specific software takes even more time unfortunately.

Well, you're not an ordinary user You're the one who obviously like to fiddle with your phone and take some minor risks. That's fine, I like to flash my phone too (more often than I actually need)
Beta is not being considered a replacement, but that's exactly what we have now. Look, I am not denying beta builds are in 90% instances stable enough to be considered daily drivers for majority of users, but there's always tiny risk sth doesn't work as it should. That's not really ok. People shouldn't be expected to try beta everytime they want to get up to date security patch (or one month older).
I think we've gone slightly offtop though

Question Confused about Xiaomi's strategy

Is there any explanation as to why the top model like "Mi 11 Ultra" is downgraded when it comes to MIUI 13 update and other models get first?
"Mi 11 Ultra" is my first Xiaomi mobile and before this I have used Samsung, HTC and Huawei. It was a little different there. They used to give update to their top models first. I have an EU/Global version of the mobile.
I'm not against why other series get updates first, but I do not understand how Xiaomi thinks? I think that those customers Xiaomi has taken so much money from and sold a premium mobile, should also get premium service in the form of good customer service and perioritation with new versions, bug fixes.
I liked the Xiaomi phone but Software is the only thing that sucks. I did not knew what a android "Bug" was until I used MIUI.
I think Xiaomi should rather think about the customer's user experience and service. I miss a good support from Xiaomi. They do not have customer support over the phone in all countries. Workshops do not have parts for telephones. They do not have their own workshops that Apple or Samsung have. They are many shortcomings if I start pointing out...

i couldn't agree more, as I also own an EU/Global mi 11 ultra and long for its MIUI 13 update. Come on Xiaomi !

My thoughts exactly! It was just an experiment on my part to try out any other Android brand after about 11 years of using Samsung (and Sony) smartphones. Partly, because in my country there is no good alternative (android) to Samsung. So much for this experiment! However, the camera (esp. night photography and 60fps 1080p video) on the Mi 11 ultra is excellent! But it can't replace a Samsung flagship as a "dependable" primary smartphone! Now, waiting for my S22 ultra to arrive.

I personally am a big fan of Huawei but due to lack of support for Google. I chose to try Xiaomi and bought a top model that was almost impossible to buy now. Miui for my part seems very immature software. Xiaomi should invest in the software department and rather hire Huawei's unemployed developers. Have you seen that in how short a time Huawei has built a new OS and app store.
Most models received a January update but my "Mi 11 Ultra" is still not on the list and runs "Android security update" from November 2021.
I am running MIUI 13 from 5th Jan 2022, 11U is one of the first mi phone that have miui 13, but in CN market
I know how u feel, but let first think about why. 11U is almost no sale at global market, not like 11 (standard one). So we can tell like 11U is for CN market, so they will bring 1st update to CN market. Other model got alot of sales in global market (like 11) will get update for global market fast like in your picture u posted
AFAIK (but I might be wrong) no public official MIUI 13 with Android 12 versions have been released so far for the MI11x global models.
Only beta versions or versions reserved to the so called "MI Pilot".
I follow you 100% but why you dont try the stable eu rom then?

Miui 13/Android 12 was released for EU rom, was it late December or early January, so it have been here for a while, but that's still not the official xiaomi, but the xiaomi eu, which is 2 different things.

Question How many android OS updates will the x90 pro plus receive?

Does anyone know how many android OS updates Vivo has promised for the x90 pro plus.
None are promised. 1-2 based on history of the China OS phones. E.g x70 pro+ the direct successor only got a single one so far from Android 11 to 13. It never got 12 and security updates arrived late. No monthly updates on security updates but rather 2-3 monthly in it's first 18 months. The funtouch OS x70 pro+ on the other hand received Android 12 and 13 as well as more timely updates.
I think no China OS vivo ever received more than 2 major upgrades and that's when they didn't skip one.
Security Updates run for 2.5 years or so.
Basically Vivo considers your phone to be junk after that time and expects you to upgrade. Resale value after 2 years therefore next to nothing....

Hmmm I saw on a website that x90 and x90 pro will get three major os upgrades so maybe the pro plus will get three as well? I think I can live with 2 major upgrades as my Xiaomi Mi 9 from android 9 had its final upgrade to android 11. Even though I can blu and root the device for custom ROMs I've never liked the look of AOSP based ROMs so haven't bothered.
It's either the x90 pro plus or the vivo X fold plus for me. The ppi of X fold plus is only 360 ppi on an 8inch seems quite low and I'm not sure how images and icons will look on it compared to ~517ppi of the x90 pro plus.
The promise is only for funtouch OS, and while the x70 pro plus with funtouch OS got android 12 and 13, origin OS only got 13 and never 12....
With the x70pro+ the real precessor of the x90pro+ I would not hold much hope. Especially seeing it will enter March on December security update which for a new flagship is simply intolerable. Xiaomi and BBK seem to outdo each other in who can provide slower updates, but BBK clearly wins on the we can provide less major upgrades than any other major producer...
And no no bootloader unlock/root for x90 series! So no way for AOSP.
Probably about 2 years worth of steady updates and maybe one last year of small patches.

Steady yes, but as shown so far that doesn't mean including security updates, nor major Android versions. It could well happen to x90pro+ origin OS 4 comes out on Android 13 instead of Android 14...
Like Huawei on some phones where they pushed updates updating next to nothing, even claiming to include security patches, and not including them (without root hard to asses, but in retroperspect you can notice it. E g huawei p30pro last 18 months only every second update actually included the claimed security patches - BBK and Xiaomi aren't good at fully integrating them either. Only google/Samsung are reliable there. However so far only Huawei outright didn't include anything of a claimed security patch).
my ex VIvo x70 pro plus received 3 Origin OS versions (1.0 - 2.0 - 3.0)
The X90 PP came out with OriginOS 3.0 (I think at least 2-3 major updates will be available)
But Origin OS 2.0 on the X70 Pro+ was based on Android 11 not 12!
Will it receive O OS 4.0? maybe, maybe not. Maybe based on Android 13...
I much rather keep the old rotten oranges OS but get a new Android version than the other way round.

I don't care much about the android version that mounts a specific interface
(Just look at huawei with its EMUI 13 which has only recently arrived with Android13)
Who wants the latest android that takes a Galaxy or Pixel, certainly not Vivo
The question in this thread here was however how many Android versions will it get.
And yeah - Huawei is a perfect example - I didn't see any improvements but just degradation for myself in EMUI updates - while missing all the goodies of new functionality offered by Android OS updates.
At least Vivo allows removing the stupid dual drop down status menu./quicksettings. Hated that on EMUI like the pest. I run Nova launcher - and the less I have to interfere with EMUI or rotten oranges the better!
Everyone here has different opinions on what is important.

There is one huge advantage of the latest android version - while most (especially Chinese and Indian) phone producers have been found to cheat on security updates and not include all of them - a major android version means you can be 100% assured that all old patches are included. Of course producers adapting the OS can create new holes apart from the AOSP source - but at least you know that those are fixed.
Man I've been researching for a month now the vivo X fold plus or the x90 pro plus as my next phone. Now I'm not so sure which one to buy. I would prefer the actual os upgrade with new features instead of origin os version upgrades without new features or missing security patches. It's all confusing.
Well when it comes to updates don't get a BBK phone. Even Xiaomi is slightly better and they really rally for who can be worse...
Asus and Motorola aren't great but a bit better.
Honor seems to be best on flagships for a Chinese company and their pricing isn't China halt price of the rest of the world but pretty similar...
Just to note, the x70 pro plus origin OS, which was just released last week manages to be on November security patch... Maybe they think half yearly is fine? I mean the phone is already 1.5 years old. Why would you want current updates on such an old phone? It's time to throw it away and get a new much better one....

My nearly 4 year old P30Pro today got Android February security patches (after previously being on December patch) - X90Pro+ nothing to be seen...
I guess it will go straight to March Update. So right now the X90Pro+ seems on a 3 months update cycle - and that right after release....
Guess next year it will move to 6 months?

Just to note, the x70 pro plus origin OS, which was just released last week manages to be on November security patch... Maybe they think half yearly is fine? I mean the phone is already 1.5 years old. Why would you want current updates on such an old phone? It's time to throw it away and get a new much better one....

Ah I guess this shortly is vivo speak for nothing happening in 17 days .. (and then the staged rollout using trial updates will take at least 7 days more for stable updates once it's ever published...
X90PP still having received a single security update since it was released (December patch end of December) likely that one was considered important as by that time many reviews written.
Stating something as a fact that doesn't happen...
Seems we have to be lucky if that crappy software with a 9.8 rated actively exploited bug is updated every three months. Sales of x90pro+ must have been dismal vs the expectations after the huge marketing campaign so now just treat it like a budget phone update wise...
Btw the march security patches by google include a fix for a zero day exploit which is actively exploited (full phone can be taken over, bug in the Samsung modem) and it's enough to know the telephone number of the user... Several vivo phones affected, amongst them x30,x50,x60 series... No patch yet for them.. Samsung and google published the updates for affected phones already, vivo hasn't. But yeah who cares, it's just a 9.8 /10 critical bug, right?
There was a 9.7 level bug in the February update that applies to the x90pp. It's very likely it's actively exploited too otherwise it would not get such a high score... This no update policy is simply a security nightmare by vivo.
Can only hope that google announces to remove certification for phones with slow updates else vivo likely won't improve...
BTW - the X90 Pro global version has already the March patches. It would be super unlikely if the X90pro+ ever receives an earlier patch level...
And I call it bull**** that it's difficult to implement a security patch (as long as it doesn't "fix" some bugs that you deliberately opened e.g. for spyware. The X90 Pro+ has March security updates and it was compiled on 1. March. Meaning within hours of the patch files being available Vivo had alredy compiled the finished version.
That's why Custom Android versions also always had the newest patches very quickly.
X90Pro+ is 3 months behind on security updates vs X90Pro and most other phones. it's pretty incredible. BBKs most expensive flagship phone and simply no updates...

Question MIUI 14' but when ??

Bruh RN10 got MIUI 14 update in February and here I guess it's gonna take another year for MIUI 14 to finally arrive. I'm still not over the loss of dropping my one plus 9 pro and this crap Xiaomi thing is literally garbage. They haven't even released the source code for this device in one whole year which I think is very little time just for handing over the source code.

At least there are crDroid 9.x and a closed Lineage20 plus an active one https://sourceforge.net/projects/lineageos-spes/, all A13. No EliteROM yet for spes, but keep eyeballs out.
MIUI 14 has severe battery drain issues, we're better off without it...

I would not get too excited over using MIUI. In terms of ROM capability, it really is the lower echelon, and I am not even talking about any Pixel-like ROMs. The EliteROMs do MIUI right and slice out as much garbage as possible while adding in as much as they can, and I like them. We just need to wait for it to drop for this device.
Miui 13 will be released to spes in Q3 2023 and that is unjustice for spes and mojito because mojito is older and spes is newer
