How to check and activate NFC - Redmi K20 Pro / Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro Questions & Answe

Guys i have a redmi k20 pro Indian model which i got during alpha sale in India and now i have unlocked bootloader and flashed hovoc os running on it but my question is, when I checked for NFC in app i get this message saying NFC is present but not activated on my device.
I searched on forms and people say that some units might have been shipped from China to meet the demands so if my unit is also from China maybe i have NFC and i want to know how to activate that.
So my question is how to activate this NFC if it's present?
Image attached below for reference.
Any info on this will be much appreciated. Thanks

Indian units don't have the NFC coil. Just ignore that false positive.

try to flash one of the global roms available, if your device has the nfc hardware, it'll get unlocked on global.

It has never been shown for definite that Chinese models were sold in India. In the first few days after launching, a small number of people claimed they had working NFC after flashing the Chinese ROM, which led to the speculation that maybe some Chinese units were moved to India to cover demand. However it has never been verified that anyone did actually have working NFC on the earliest Indian models.

I did flash China miui 10.3.6 or 10.3.16 which i don't remember correctly but it showed the NFC but when i activate it doesn't activate and deactivates and closes the settings also same happened with EU miui so i guess it didn't work out. I flashed both rom via miflashtool

Mi8 NFC or No NFC?

So, does the Xiaomi Mi8 from GearBest have NFC? Because I was this close to buying a Mi8 but then I've noticed that in the product page the specs didn't show NFC but there are other listings who show NFC in the specs!I need NFC in my daily life. Bus and train pass, college dorm acess and etc.
Mi8 GearBest this the one that I was going to get.
Mi8 GearBest this one in the Q&A page says it has NFC but it doesn't on the spec sheet
Mi8 GearBest this one has NFC in the specs sheet
The other listings don't even mention NFC

I don't get it.. Should I just get the version I want and it will come with NFC regardless or some versions have it and others don't? I'm really confused by this
Also, I'm in Portugal. Is there any difference in getting the Global, International or even the Chinese/English version of the phone (power brick, ROM, phone model)?
Thanks

no, you'll get google pay only when using a costum rom like xiaomi.eu that explicitly supports google pay.
I can confirm xiaomi.eu's google pay work perfect.

use of MI 8 chinese version with Global ROM

Dear community,
I just bought a Mi 8 online. Unfortunately, after the purchase I read about the new rules Xiaomi made for Global and Chines versions of their phones.
I then checked what I bought and sadly it is Chinese Version with "official Global ROM and OTA updates".
I assume that the bootloader will be unlocked, which ist not so nice for some apps.
But what I am more concerned about is the question if I will brick the phone if I try to upgrade to MIUI 10 Global (which I think I will but please correct me if I'm wrong)
Are there any disadvantages in just using the Chinese ROM (english language would be fine for me)?
So would you think, it will be better to return that device and buy a Global version instead? (I bought on AliExpress and its not delivered yet)
Thank you very much and kind regards,
undefined
You can update to global MIUI 10 from OTA with no problem, i have done the same yesterday. The only thing you can't do is relock your bootloader
Thank you, roccovite, I didn't know that
Do you know if purchases in Google Play also work?
I think I would have to try, if my banking app will work too, even with unlocked boot loader. But I think I haven't locked the boot loader in my Redmi 3 pro neither and everything works.
Hi friends
I want to buy Mi8 in the next few days, In fact, this will be my first experience with Xiaomi devices, and frankly, I'm a bit afraid.
I did many web searches, I found that this problem is very widespread and it happens to many people, and this scared me frankly.
Is there a way to avoid this problem?, can I know if the phone is "really" Global, or Chinese, or -As in your case above- "Chinese Version with official Global ROM and OTA updates" before I purchase it ??, or I really need to purchase and open it to know??
thanks in advance
Dear A7.Rtb,
I think it highly depends on where you're going to buy. For example if you're going to buy on AliExpress, there is one major reseller which labeled all phones accordingly with "Global" or "Global ROM". You just need to look for the phones labeled "Global" and ignore all the others, even tho "Global ROM" is generally cheaper.
Maybe you can also see it on the box the phone came in with but I'm not sure about that
Kind regards,
undefined
Thanks for your answer,bro.
In fact, I'm from Syria, and here we can't buy online, and we don't have any of the purchasing agencies such as AliExpress or Amazon or others. There are only small local shops, which means I can check the box before I buy the phone, I think the phone type must be defined on the box, isn't it ???.
But there is something I didn't fully understand.
Do you mean that the phones labeled "Global ROM" are Chinese version in the first place, but with the global ROM installed on them - as if I purchased the Chinese version and installed the Global ROM from miui.eu on it, for example - ???
I'm really sorry if I bother you, but this phone is priced here about 220000 of the local currency, and this is not cheap at all, so I don't want to venture ...
Thank you again
Dear A7.Rtb,
don't worry, you don't bother me
First thing, I hope you are as safe as possible in Syria, my friend.
As far as I read here in the forum and at Google is that the Chinese version box has only Chinese letters on it and that the global version box has a sticker saying "Global" on it.
But I can't confirm that because I haven't seen it in reality yet.
Yes, many sellers on AliExpress taking the Chinese version, unlock the bootloader, flash the official global ROM and put it back in the box.
I read today about the disadvantages of having an unlocked bootloader. As far as I read, the phone will work fine but Google Pay and some apps like banking and Netflix won't work because they check if the bootloader is unlocked.
Hope I could help you a bit
Have fun and stay safe

Just love your empathy.
Kudos to people like you still care for people who are different from them without any racism and prejudice
Oh man; this is stressing me just a bit that I can ruin my new phone with one software button. Is it at least unbricka me from that state?
Cause I am buying a Mi9 More details here, idk if this is allowed to post this link
So I imagine I can convert it down the line. Bootloader unlocked isn't an issue for me since I always have my phone's rooted anyway which I need to unlock bootloader for anyway.
This is my first Xiaomi phone so curious, there is an official global ROM and a different one from xiaomi.eu? And one requires flashing tool and other can flash from TWRP?
Thanks in advance

difference between K20 Pro Chinese and Indian

Hello All
I will be having two devices of K20 Pro in about one month from now
One from India and the second from China
I will have mine for myself and the other for a friend of mine
Now which should should i take , the chinese or the Indian variant
I know that both donot support B20 but i am in North Africa and we donot have it and i donot go to europe
( If it happened i will force connex to 3g during roaming instead of LTE not a big deal )
Anyway i will unlock the bootloader as i am used on AOSP custom roms in my current lovely pocophone
So in case of chniese i will unlock bootloader and root and either use Indian ROM or EU MIUI Rom till the custom roms are mature enough
In case of Indian I will only root till later for the custom Roms
The only difference i am aware about is that chinese have NFC while indian donot , IS THERE ANY OTHER DIFFERENCE ANYONE KNOWS ABOUT IT ?
I made my reading and knew that NFC is not yet supported on MIUI Indian ROM while it is supported on the EU
Chinese MIUI is a no go even after adding google services and support as most people advised it is very skinned and heavy UI
Still donot know about custom roms NFC support yet
I never used NFC till now, What do you guys use it for exactly as it will make my choice more focused ??
For small files i transfer via Bluetooth, For large files i transfer via Google Files App ( same concept as share.it or making a hotspot and the other party joins and recieve )

It's not cheating, is called clever advertisement. They never mentioned anywhere that they'll be using Samsung Amoled Sreen

Some Indian K20 pros are actually Chinese K20 pro, they imported some devices from China to deal with emergency demand in Indian market. Those devices also have NFC but disabled by Indian firmware.

With names you apply for a trademark not a patent. In America, Samsung own the trademark 'Super AMOLED'. I'm not sure where else in the world they have successfully got 'Super AMOLED' trademarked. It's possible that other companies can use the name 'Super AMOLED' in other countries.

i have a Mi 9T Pro (Global ROM), it doesn't support call recording (Stock Google Dialer) nor showing call waiting.
I'm thinking of flashing Indian ROM as it support these missing features. my question is: what are the differences between the two ROMs??
what will i miss from the global ROM if i switched and what i will get more from the Indian ROM?
Plus: are google apps included in Indian ROM
At last: will i receive software updates (MIUI/android/security patches) after unlocking bootloader to flash the Indian ROM?

You'll lose NFC functionality. You'll gain Android 10 and probably earlier access to MIUI 11. You'll get an app drawer (which will also be added to MIUI 11 by default, I believe). Otherwise, there's not a great deal of difference. You'll still have the Play Store as standard. People have claimed their phone runs smoother with the Indian ROM, but I'll take that info with a pinch of salt. I think it's just wishful thinking.
OTA for the Indian ROM should work as normal.

Unlocking bootloader will not affect OTA. You will still get OTA updates on the Indian ROM, as normal. You should still get support as Xiaomi officially allow bootloader unlocking. If you do need to send/take it to a service centre, just flash the phone back to it's original region stock ROM.
I couldn't say for definite what Arabic language support there is, though I would except there to be some.

Question CN or Global (EU) Phone ?

hey there fellow XDA Members and Mi11 Ultra Owners!
Any downsides of buying the CN Version of this Phone over the Global/EU Version?
i've got the MiMix2s and have there the issue that it got some new Baseband FW someday that now produces issues in the EU Network... also other Phones from xiaomi had this issues that the CN Versions where somewhat troublesome
I bought the china version and when it comes to google integration, it's very limited what you have.
your apps and messages won't automatically sync, there is always the chinese apps that you can removed, but the AI stays there.. I installed the global version and it's like a normal google phone, everything will be download it to your Mi Ultra 11, no need to download each app individually, . If I was you, i would spend the little extra money it cost fot the global version and get it.
Just get the CN phone and flash the EU Rom.
Honestly I recommend buying the global version as internet bands differ from the Chinese version at hardware level, so no firmware can change that. Many people didn't find this an issue anyway, but I would recommend you to stay on global

I've not seen any changes to radio bands in any specs. I would have thought that they would not change the modems hardware antennas for different regions? If you have some specs showing the different bands can you let me see them or a link, I'm really interested if they have.

AFAIK bands are identical this year.
5G works here with CN model so I'm good.
Bands are different, sure you have 5g but you may miss something on some specific carrier
As far as I know, the hardware is identical

But the hardware can select the bands from the modems configuration per sim and network location required to the maximum bands built to be used per model. See all the mi 11 ultra configurations in the screenshots taken from mine.
Mine is not rooted, but it would be good to see the modem config from a global hardware sold phone and a Chinese hardware sold phone both using the same ROM to see if there are any difference's in bands using the Qualcomm modern config app. I would be happy to be proved wrong but I bet both have the same bands, just applied different.
No rom or firmware can change the bands sorry
This is my first post so forgive any stupid errors or remarks ! I bought a Mi 11 Ultra with the CN Rom. I'm waiting for the bootloader to unlock and I was going to install the EU Rom. But I have been using it after taking off the bloatware and to be honest it's behaving and works well. The 5g speeds are good and it seems to change between 4g and 5g smoothly when moving about. I've attached a screenshot of a speed test done sitting in a coffee shop on Tottenham Court Rd London. No over heating and camera works well. So I'm seriously considering leaving it locked and using the CN Rom.
But willing to hear why that's a stupid idea!
Thanks

The CN ROM works well if you're patient and don't mind debloating and tuning it to ensure all Google apps work as it should since it does require some tweaking. For example, I remember my Google Pay didn't initially work.
I remember getting 150Mbps on LTE+ with EE in London Bridge station over a month ago which was fantastic although I heard the EU Weekly runs a bit more efficient with the memory management and process allocation. What eventually sold me was the fact that it was based on CN Weekly betas, and those occasionally get camera improvements first before stable across all regions.

I purchased the China version as well, maily because it is a lot cheaper than the global variant. I then wait a week, unlock my bootloader and flash the Xiaomi.eu rom with full Google integration. You see, the Xiaomi.eu rom takes the roms from China and removes all the Chinese bloat and script and then adds in full Google functionality. It's truly the best of both worlds.

Question magisk(nfc) module on note 12 pro plus?

I bought a Chinese redmi note 12 pro plus and downloaded Indian firmware on it, but nfc does not work, who can suggest a magisk module that allows you to enable nfc. I will be grateful

I've got Chinese version of Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus and I am able to use NFC with no issues in UK, just change the wallet to HCE wallet in your NFC settings (once you enable NFC). Unless India's firmware is limiting it. I kept the original chinese version and will not update to global once released, I see no reason for it.

I don't think any modules will work without rooting the device and I haven't seen a way to do this yet. Due to it's SOC there will be less support for this handset as a generality, unless people support one of it's variants due to be released
