Ad blocker - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

I'm rooted, using Adaway, but I see more ads in my Chrome browser than ever before. What's the ad blocker everyone is using? I prefer a non VPN type solution. I think that's what Blokada is?

Just go to settings>connections>more connections>private DNS and change it from automatic to private and type this address in it
dns.adguard.com. all of my ads are permanently gone.

Hmm, I never found that to block ads in apps. But maybe a combo of adguard DNS and Adaway would work.

Adguard looks setup in DNS but the adguard test page says it's not setup.

Try with nextdns.io

Since you're rooted, can use Adguard and use it via proxy instead of VPN.

The notification icon is a grey "i" in a grey circle.
Will uninstall whatever it is.
edit: went thru the latest astro apk and the notification icon was not in there, so its probably not astro.
I use astro and have never seen this. Not sure what it is that's doing it, but I don't think its astro.

Dumb question probably, but happen's when you push that notifcation? Browser opens up?
I typed in WonderWall and found and found an app called MSN WonderWall (Wonderful Wall magazine) and went ahead and installed it. Not sure if that's your culprit.

Quick Uninstaller seems to be the culprit according to this.
This happened to me too recently, thought it was a fluke but after seeing this it reminded me. I dont have quick uninstaller so its not the only one doing it.
Are either of you guys using chrome 2 phone firefox extension, or any programs of that type?
Hmmm....I hope this isn't a security thing with C2DM.

Nope, you have to download chrome 2 phone. It's why I asked if you're using the firefox extention. That's not writting by the chrome 2 phone people and you don't know what's happening on their end.
The c2dm api is present, but you have to have an app installed to receive the intent.
In the Chrome 2 Phone combo, your browser extension sends the intent to the Chrome 2 Phone app, and the app displays the notification.
I can right a "happy buttons" app that I tell you displays happy faces, and that's all you think it does, however I can send ad notifications through the C2DM api and have it show a notification like the one you guys are seeing. All without the Chrome 2 Phone extention/apk combo.

No, no, I wasn't implying froyo came with chrome2phone, but that practically every froyo user has installed this and if it what chrome2phone, this would have been more widespread.

Any way to get some sort of Application like S-Note on HTC One?

The Samsung Note 2 has a great S Note application where one can write notes and add pictures on there along with Audio Notes. Is there something similar to this application that is available or can be added to the HTC ONE? Is there one that comes with it or is there a way to get one similar to the one that comes with the Samsung Note 2 on there?
Instead of just having a basic note application where one can just types notes with no pictures or no audio. Anyone here able to help with this?

Evernote is an application that requires you to save everything on their server. No privacy this way and you have to upload and download everything from them every time you need something. Last but not least they charge you for storage space and you do not have the option to only keep info on your device only if I am not mistaken. Would prefer an application just like the one on on the Samsung Note 2 called the S-Note.
Thanks for your input though

Permissions and privacy invasions are like that of Evernote. That Toggle sync pretty much gives them control over turning and over riding your sync options meaning if you turn sync off they can turn it on and sync if they want to.

Yeah SNote syncs with your Samsung/SCloud account so everything is saved on Samsung's servers.
EDIT: S Note's permissions :

The only permission it isn't granted is 'Sleep with your wife/significant other' then?

So you're trying to say that only the browser works and all other apps have no internet access?? Facebook and stuff?
Edit: Finally understood the situation, if you're using the schools wifi and they blocked apps to work (my college wifi does that too), the only way to get it to work is if they unblock it themselves. That's why you should get a data plan lol

If it's your wifi desactivate it, if you're in public place or school, you're *****ed
Is VPN an option for you? Sounds like deep packet inspection to me. If you'd use VPN your whole traffic will be encrypted. So no dpi to look in your traffic

Possible solution to the H+ issue

Dear all,
I know so many of you have been suffering from this issue of H+ not working as it should on Oneplus 5, I myself have suffered a lot from that until I have started using "AdGuard Pro."
I would suggest you give it a try and report back.
Note that I am not making any marketing for this app, I just share the information with you as I know many have this H+ issue.
I am currently using OOS 4.5.13 with no mods at all.
I have also noticed my speed has almost doubled on H+ now.
I hope that I am not just lucky, I hope it works for you as well.

Missleading. PlayStore version of AdGuard are restricted to only Yandex Browser and Samsung Internet browser. Full version cannot be downloaded from PlayStore (adblockers are restricted by Google).
Full version is available at adguard.com
Sounds like you have DNS issues.
Have you tried one of the DNS changers to see if it fixes it? Google's is ok

And I want to add that the common point between adguard and the "DNS changer " app is that those two apps create a local VPN connection :see the "key" symbol in my screen shot. It means that a local VPN connection is running.
Maybe it means that having a local VPN running solves the issue with 3g/H+

Which server should I choose to connect? google?
And which settings did you explicitly change in that app?

Ad blocking with hosts.

Quick question, I'm familiar with using ADB for various reasons, one thing I'm not sure is if ADB has root access, without the phone being rooted?
Specifically, could I pull the hosts file, copy in everything from my other devices host file that's updated regularly, and then push it back to the phone?
I've looked on Google and saw some guides saying you could do this, but I'm not convinced ADB has root access on a non rooted phone.
I can't try right now as I won't be home for several days and no PC, so just thought I'd ask.
It can't be done without root
Yup, can't be done without root. If you're looking for adblocking I'd recommend AdHell 3 been using it since launch and it's working great. Blockda is also a great alternative.

Yeah that's what I expected, thanks for the replies though.
Yes they're two apps I've been looking at as well, so will probably give them both a try, I've already debloated the phone massively, so if I can get a decent ad blocker working too then I hardly have need for root.
i recommend adhell3 as well, works very good, since the day i installed it i havent seen one single ad. it also has a built in app disabler which works very well (used it to disable facebook & bixby)
