Need some help with my new Phone - ASUS ROG Phone II Questions & Answers

First of all, I love this phone. The main selling point for me was the massive battery and from there it's just getting better counting in the other features, but as always, nothing is perfect and I'm not that experienced with Android in general so figured I'd ask away here. As a disclaimer, for all the things below, I'm not interested in rooting the phone, feel free to write if rooting is the only option though and if doing so, what I am asking for would work.
Is there any way to turn off the volume warning? Like if you're going above 70%. Seems it's a lot less aggressive than on my old S9 though.
Is there any way to add a few more steps to the volume? It appears 15 is the highest volume at the moment. And the highest volume is a bit low for my taste, when listening to music. I'm using BOSE QC20's and while they sound great, I could use a few more steps. I used some App on my S9 but it didn't really sound that well. For comparison, on the PC you can put VLC on 200% AND turn up the volume on the headset as well, if you want.
What kind of screen protection would you advice? Or shouldn't I bother with that?
How water resistant is the phone? All I know is that there is no classification yet. Even it isn't, how would you rate it? Go Swimming? Drop it in a pool of water? Walk with it in the rain? Or panic if one droplet gets anywhere close to the speakers?
Can I dual charge the phone? As in, if the Fan is connected, can I put one charger in the bottom Type-C port and one into the fan?
What happens if I put the charger in the Red sideport? Not that I would, just curious as I saw a warning saying not to.
Similar to the dual charge, would a PC gaming headset work on the phone that uses 2 3.5mm pins? The sound pin would go into the fan and the mic pin would go into the bottom slot of the phone, or vice versa?
I've been trying to change the Notification sound and ringtone for Whatsapp using the same sounds I had for my S9. I've added both (Orange & Whisper) but they just don't want to work. I made them in .mp4 (aac), .mp3 & .oog formats. When I select them in the list, they are played as they should but when I get a message and/or recieve a call, the latest (standard) signal is instead used.
Update: I managed to get the notification sound to work now (Whisper). By going into the Phone Settings -> Notifications -> WhatsApp. Seems that option in there would override the App Settings. However, when I get a call now, BOTH the original ringtone and the S9 (Orange) one is played ontop of each other.
While we are on WhatsApp, how can I remove the big notifications. Like, there's 2 types. The one at the top of the screen (I want this) and then it's the big popup in the middle of the screen (that has a reply field and some more options (I don't want this). I remember it was a hassle to get rid of on my S9 so thought I'd ask.
Bug or feature? When I'm inside a program and exit back to the Home screen, I've noticed the "locked" bottom row starts jumping, as if they want to swipe up. I'm using the Two-Layer mode. Not sure if it's a bug or a feature "showing" me there's stuff down there.
Last but not least, can I move the clock on the lockscreen? It's currently in the top left corner, I'd prefer to have it centered.
Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance!

I've replied in line to the questions I can answer.

Not very, there doesn't appear to be any waterproofing, check the sim card tray for example, no rubber seal.
Can I dual charge the phone? As in, if the Fan is connected, can I put one charger in the bottom Type-C port and one into the fan?
You could but the phone isn't going to charge twice as fast, I think it'll likely only charge from one port but shouldn't do any damage.
What happens if I put the charger in the Red sideport? Not that I would, just curious as I saw a warning saying not to.
People say it dies but I haven't tried it, it's not the same as a C port so you'd have to force it.

No, there's no mic in option afaik.

Probably a feature as I think I've seen that on some pixel launchers but I don't use the stock one personally.

1) There isn't;
2) You can only set Outdoor Mode on, but the volume will go up, no volume steps wil be added;
3) I think you should go for one with good comments, since you have the fingerscan under the display and a screen protection may void It;
4) the phone is not certified for water/dust resistance. So, just avoid contact with water. Tho, I don't think some raindrop will ruin it;
5) You cannot dual charge the phone;
6) The Red sideport is a Trademark Port made by Asus exclusively for their optional accessories. So, just leave It alone if you don't wanna be sorry;
7) No such phone will ever have the drivers made for Windows/MacOs which makes the headset to work on a personal computer;
8) You can have this setted on the Sound Settings;
9) You can have this setted on the Notification Settings;
10) that's a feature;
11) you must use third part apps for that.

Thank you so much, both of you.
The volume warning is a lot less of a pain than I initially thought. The one on the S9 is rather agressive so had some bad experiences. Can't say I notice any diff with Outdoor mode but I'll try more later, suppose it's fine.
Good point about the screen protection, I'll definately keep the fingerprint sensor in mind.
The waterproofing, or non-waterproofing rather is one of the Con's of the phone I suppose. Not that it's an issue but I'd rather not care at all as I could with my old phone. Thanks for clarifying though. My dad lost his old iPhone 6 to having his phone in the rain so I kinda know the limit then (as that also lacked any kind of cert).
No dual charging, makes sense. One takes prio.
Yeah, I'll not mess with the red port. @willhemmens, dies as in "throw the phone and buy a new one" or "phone shuts off but just restart and it's fine". (Like, battery is dead/dies). Just curious here really.
I see, that's too bad. Suppose I'd have to get one of those 2 becomes 1 3.5mm cable adapters.
@NajimKiSaad, that's just for the phone ringtone/sms though? This is for Whatsapp exclusively. It's as if a WhatsApp call triggers as a normal call as well as it's own settings, kinda.
Hm, where? Settings -> Apps & Notifications -> WhatsApp -> Notifications, it's set to - Behavior: Make Sound. Same in the App itself, Popup is not enabled anywhere.
"Bug or feature? When I'm inside a program and exit back to the Home screen, I've noticed the "locked" bottom row starts jumping, as if they want to swipe up. I'm using the Two-Layer mode. Not sure if it's a bug or a feature "showing" me there's stuff down there."
Well, that's good to know. How do I disable it? I just find it annyoing.
And for the clock widget on the Lockscreen, any recommendations? I like the style of the default one, just the position is kinda off.
Once again, thanks for all the answers!

Not related to your questions but have you felt that this phone just cuts off the internet connection to Whatsapp? I don't get notifications after a while and the Whatsapp Web says that my phone is not connected to internet even though there is internet. Whatsapp only starts working when I open this app. Then, I get all the messages. I have allowed unrestricted internet access to this app and turned off battery optimization for this app. Any ideas?

That's interesting, I haven't had it as you describe it no but since I got the phone, I've noticed the "last online" doesn't always show on my friend I have on WA. Could be that she has turned it off but it works sometimes.
Looking at the top bar on the phone, I added internet speed and it says 0 B/s quite often so my guess is that it only uses internet on demand, maybe it has something to do with that?

Think I might have seen a post about it too, could be wrong though.

HTC One vibration sound

Picked up this phone just today and my god I love this phone to death but every phone comes with complaints. Most things arent big and will just take time to get used to but this one I cannot ignore. I love having the vibrate on keypress option selected and the HTC One when it vibrates makes this very unpleasant loose spring like sound whenever it vibrates. Am I the only one thats noticed this or is this every device?
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
many people do have this ... me too.... thats my second device and both of them got this crappy vibration sound...
i replaced it because of that .... but because of that i disabled every vibration functions on this phone to get rit of it ....
so i guess you have to live with it ... try to replace it and hope you get one with a good vibration motor or disable all vibrations

Isnt that due to the OIS? Not sure about but all of my 4 Ones had that. The One of a friend also sounds like that. I´m ok with it.

I'm sure there will be soon an option in custom roms to control vibration intensity, and put it to the value you like! it's only a matter of time, I'm sure!
[I'm sure there will I am currently facing the same issue with my replacement and thinking about replacing it again but hesitant because every device comes with its own minor defects, u only notice the alight clicking in a very quite environment and only on short vibrates such as when typing, but to be honest this is as perfect as it can get, everything seems to work with this device with no problems except this, and I might apply for a replacement and end up with a worst unit and another major issue, I have emailed HTC complaining about their quality control, cuz my first device had gaps and a tiny hair under the screen, my second device had a touchscreen problem and now this one which has a minor vibration sound.
The problem is I am too picky when it comes to this kind of stuff and a little ocd about them so I am positive that other people won't even notice the issue and even the repair tech might claim it's normal and in all devices. So yeah
my device is work related so giving it to them for 2 full days is kind of troublesome for me
add me to the list
I have had my HTC One for 2 days now. I too noticed this on mine. I just chalked it up to the phone being all aluminum case vs my old EVO was plastic/metal. I have a few other complaints too lol.
Ok the rants!
1. Why did you have to move all the buttons all over the place? Seems like every button is opposite to other android phones? Especially moving the power button to the far left? Who designed this? Must of been a left handed person. Come on at least compromise and put in the middle! Stupid!
2. Why limit to only 3 buttons at the bottom of the HTC one and in all actuality...you never enabled the "HTC" to be a button so we are stuck with 2! Most phones have at least 3! Again Stupid!
3. The Home button and back buttons. Ok maybe the person designed this drives on the wrong side of the road or goes in the exit door or something? The buttons need to be flipped in my humble opinion. Home first (left side) or at least in the middle, back button to the left or right sides. OH and bring back the quick access button!
4. Ok speaking of the "HTC" logo/button at the bottom. Why put in circuitry for it to be a button and then not enable it? Stupid #3!
5. The widgets for "Bluetooth", Wireless", "Mobile", and "GPS". Why light blue for the "on notification". Seems like a **** poor color choice. At least a green or red would be fairly noticeable considering the widget itself is blue? Hello.....great designing there.
6. The power button. More recessed then ever before making it difficult to push down or even find. No step up here.
7. Lock screen can only have 1 widget on it? Really? Wow...couple steps back here.
8. Full animated weather locking screen gone/no longer available because HTC forces you to use their one and ONLY ONE version their crappy line art weather on the lock screen. I don't mind the plain jane weather for showing up in the app list but placing it on the bottom of the lock screen with nothing else is horrible. I want my weather back to the lock screen. I know I have mentioned it a lot...sorry pet peeve, have it it so long on all my other phones.
9. I won't mention Blinkfeed. I have that pushed off the side and hear that sense 5.5 is around the corner which will allow you to finally turn the damn thing off.
Hey guys, I wanted to point out that you can reduce the vibration intensity, therefore getting rid of the "springy" feeling! Just download FauxClock. (Yes you need root of course). Gratefully this app doesn't require you to flash anything, it just needs BusyBox. The only downside to reducing the intensity is after so far you basically lose haptic feedback. (I wanted to reduce notification buzz.) And this is where I went with plan B.
Plan B (NO ROOT!): This method, you guys, will make you feel real dumb for not thinking of. Personally I did this to get rid of notification buzz but keep haptic feedback, but you can also just turn off buzz on certain apps. Simply open up App-ops on Android 4.3, go through all your apps, and untick the "Vibration" permission! That's it guys! Feel dumb now?
Note: to open App-ops is an activity, you can download App-ops launchers from Play Store or, in my case, I used a Tasker task.

<<< Say thanks if I was of help! :good:

Just picked up this phone

I wanted something more durable especially when it comes to water and since I was switching to AT&T the Active was an obvious choice. I've had the phone for a few days now and I'm really pleased with it, especially the camera and battery life. The first day I had almost 4 hours of screen on time which was close to full brightness and still had over 40% battery left. I thought that had to be a fluke or something but it's clearly not. Now to the point of my post, why is this phone not very popular? Why anyone would choose the regular S6 over the Active is beyond me. Does anyone think we'll ever see root on this phone? I'm very pleased with it out of the box but there's a few things I'd love root for. Like why does there have to be a persistent notification telling me I'm connected to wifi. That's the dumbest thing I've ever seen. I couldn't believe it couldn't be turned off.
Edit:
Gotta change that sig as its all wrong now, lol.

What are some of your cons for the device?
I've heard various things about it, such as there's some faint line down the side of the screen on most all models.
Some people claim that the speak on speaker call sucks.
etc etc. Anything you don't really like about the phone that could be most people's gripe about it?
Mine works great. Nothing to complain about...

First, fingerprint sensor. I need security but entering pin/code every time I wanted to unlock the phone was cumbersome.
Second, is availability at the time of purchase. It wasn't apparently available with carriers in Canada.
Third, popularity, and community development and support. Galaxy s6 has more users, and therefore, more developers working on its rom.
Fourth, availability of accessories due to Galaxy S6 owner population vs Active.
I can overlook all other points, but missing the fingerprint sensor was a deal breaker for me.
For me, the lack of a fingerprint scanner isn't a deal-breaker. I guess I'm 'old school' or something. Though I understand the convenience of it.
I'm on the edge of picking up this phone, but, kind of worried about what type of specs the S7 Active will have and will it be worth the wait.
Currently with the S6 Active, my concerns are:
No Root (not a deal breaker)
Slowness of AT&T updates (not a deal breaker if ODIN is reliable and we can get timely firmware updates outside of AT&T)
Length of time it's taking to get to Marshmellow
Quality of speaker and using the speaker phone (I've heard that it's not too hot)
Lack of accessories (agree with you on this, doesn't seem a lot out there)
What I don't like about S6 Active:
Placement of the audio jack port. Really should be on the bottom, like the S6
No expandable memory option
No removable battery option (Not really a deal breaker if the battery has no issues and will remain effective for at least 3-4 years.)
Not enough bands to support international carriers and carrier aggregation support to the fullest by having as many bands possible (Not really a deal breaker, as I'll get a few where I am).
Touch-Wiz. Rather to to some stock android OS rather than have all the crap on the phone. (relates to having a root)
But beyond all of the above, the phone looks really really nice and I'll likely pick it up anyways, for lack of anything better, IMO.
I was thinking Nexus 6P, but it's just too big for me.
Nexus 5X, just kinda of too weak for me. (has less bands than Nexus 6P, actually)
I was thinking just a regular S6, but like the Active design better.
Just bought one,for durability, came from the V10 and loving it so far.
Succumbed
Well, I picked up this phone(64GB Version). Got it to update to 5.1.1.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but this phone is simply beautiful.
The weighting and feel is also very very nice.
It's a quite zippy and fast phone.
So far, on the whole I'm liking this phone alot.
However some points I've come across. Any suggestions or resolutions welcome.
Minor Dislikes:
Forced to see carrier's name on top-left of lock screen (Not just specific to this phone)
└ I'd prefer to see useful icons on the status bar(left-hand side) during the phone being locked.
Notifications Management
└ In order to remove Heads UP notifications, I've had to download an application like: HeadsOff└ Some applications, in order to see the icon in the status bar, the rectangular static notification remains on the lock screen, wasting screen real-estate. There's no way to remove this static notification from the lock screen without adjusting the settings to remove notifications from the app, and then that removes the icon in the status bar.└ Some applications like Accu Radio won't show the player controls on the lock screen. No matter what combination of notification settings are used. (Not really the phone's fault but..)
Fingerprint Scanner Lacking
└ While the Active doesn't have a fingerprint button to scan fingerprint to unlock the phone, I thought Samsung had some models that used the actual screen to do this. If so, the option would be nice to have on the Active
Headphone Jack Location (Not just specific to this phone)
└ I still don't see why phone makers are putting the jack at the top of the phone. Many people put their phone in their pocket. The natural insertion direction is the way one is holding it at the time of use, the top goes into the pocket first. Yet if the audio cable/jack is jutting out from the top, it makes it hard to put in the pocket, as well as decreases the life of the cable, etc. (not a deal-breaker, but an annoyance for sure)
Touchscreen SUPER sensitive
└ I've found that the screen is simply overly sensitive to touch and find myself many times mistakenly activating something else, before my finger even touches the screen.└ Currently I do not have a screen protector for the phone, so not sure this will matter.
Other's Pain points:
Speaker Location/Quality
└ While the speaker isn't in the best of locations, I haven't really noticed and sound degradation/quality. It's a mini speaker. We can't expect blasting Dolby 7.1 haha
Active Key easy to press accidently
└ I have not found any problem with this, and I typically don't encounter having this button activated unintentionally with my day to day use.└ Some applications like Accu Radio won't show the player controls on the lock screen. No matter what combination of notification settings are used. (Not really the phone's fault but..)

Add another dislike:
Samsung Touchwiz and how it handles, doesn't allow handling of LED definition.
Unfortunately, Samsung, in their infinite wisdom, have blown up their Touchwiz and made it virtually impossible for applications like Lightflow, to define custom LED colors for applications.
The best that can happen is that some 'workaround' by the author of Lightflow can be used, but that just leaves the Badges and Notifications icons on the status bar for you to clear out manually, after reading your email or messages.
Price to pay to have any control over LED.....
Just one more reason I want root....

LED Flip cover software issue.

So I bought the LED flip cover for my S7 Edge (EF-NG935). Although its a really good quality case I have issues with its software. The LED's on the case display the time, receiving a call or a text and afterwards it goes dark. There is no way for me to see if I have a notification on my phone. Usually the phone LED would flash slowly notifying me to check my phone. Other than that the Flip cover LED does not notify me for any general notification (viber, facebook etc). Not even when i receive a message on them. So there is no way for me to see that i just received a message or that I had received a message. Other than that it doesn't display music bars when music is playing or the volume.
What it would be excellent is that the LED's should be always on (hence low consumption). In case of a notification it should display the icon of the app that I got a notification from. The LEDs are quite a lot so its easy to figure out what app send the notification. The case costed 70 Euros which are quite a lot. There should be a customization software or something. Samsung needs to address this issue. My ROM version is : G935FXXU1APAW
I agree 100%. One of the great things about Android phones are the LED notifications, but this cover covers it and it should IMO show notifications on the cover.
Just a simple blinking diod would even be good enough.
Disappointing
Or make the dot leds always on! Can we edit it's settings with root? Does anyone have knowledge how to? The led view flip cover is really nice and has potential. But right now it's not even working right.
I reported the issue to samsung...but I'm not expecting much...xda devs is the only salvation haha. Any rom cookers that can help?
When i went to a samsung store to buy the led flip case, the first one i used had an issue like yours so we cracked open another case and tried it on and the 2nd one works like a charm and as a matter of fact no issues until now.
My previous experiences tell me that the sensor itself is faulty on the case. Go to your nearest samsung store and try a new led flip case. See if the issue is still there on a new case.
Does it show all general notifications? Like what's up, Facebook, etc? Because mine shows only time, battery charging, incoming call, and sms. No general notifications...and furthermore it should stay on all the time so I know I had a notification..like the phone led! I'll go try another one Monday...but I still want to see customization on the led case. Always on option...app icons etc.
Please explain how your case works? General notifications etc...
Ok so I was doing some googling on this, and found that it seems to work with Nova Launcher Prime + TeslaUnread (their unread badge plugin). It seems to show four dots spinning on other Samsung LED flip covers.
I don't have Nova Launcher Prime, so I can't test it. If you do, please feel free to try!
edit: ok so I've got nova launcher prime now, and it still doesn't work..
I got my info from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/accessories/led-case-review-t2993839/page2
edit 2: from reading a bit more, the note 4 led cover had some support for 3rd party apps, but that seems to be gone with S7 LED cover..
So there is a way to control it! We just need the software! Great work @dogans ! Anyone who can give us some help? I'm sure its not such a hard thing to do...if it could only take the notification bar icons...and show em on..that would be great. For example if you have a viber text...it should show a viber icon always on till you read it!

Notification only works with standard sms, prompt to swipe for call only happens when receiving calls, music player led only works with samsung music app, alarm clock with samsung built in clock app.
No 3rd party notification support.
Led doesnt stay lit all the time.
It was meant to do that.
And if u wanna check the time u can press the power/lock button.
Well that's no good. First of all..even if I get a standard sms or call..after it lids up for some seconds then it goes dark. The phone led is covered so how I supposed to notice I got a notification. If someone is willing to modify its settings or make a small app to take control of it that would be great. It's highly inefficient as is.
Luckily i read it. I was planning to buy one. Saved some money there.

No you should buy it...it's a really nice case! Even without the notifications...and I'm sure it's a matter of time till we get it right! Haha! I don't think there is a better case..leather plus led
Update: the case works with samsung music player. Wish it would stay on all the time. Volume shows up as well. So the only thing that doesn't work is general notifications and always on (which it's a must if you ask me)

Im not too sure but the number of leds there > number of lcds on a 5" lcd smartphone. If its always on, theres bound to be a huge battery drain
Well at least one led should fade in and out just to let you know you have a notification... Like the phone LED on top of the screen. Can someone write an app to control it? Or at least enable general notifications.
hi, i got problem with this s7 edge led flip case. somethimes it show the clock when i close it but sometimes not. already claim the warranty, and got new one but sadly it happen again after several hour using. one thing i noticed when the led it not show , then put my phone back on metal object suddenly led is working. what do u guys think, problem came from the case or the phone itself?
Probably nfc interference... The case works fine here. Except the above complaints. Try testing it on someone's else's phone. And try your nfc with another phone as well. If both works fine its a software problem. Hard reset!

I have the same problem like this. If the phone
attached with another phone the LED
can work properly,
But if not attached the LED not working.
Picked one up today, tried the hopeless Samsung Experience store in London - who had no S7 Edge cases at all !!!
Went to Carphone Warehouse and got a 3 for 2 deal, but again only bought the LED as that was all they had. Works fine, but boring the led as always with Samsung great idea (hardware) poor software failure to exploit hardware potential.
so did anyone figure out how to modify its software? it shouldnt be that hard i guess.

What are the main Android Auto advantages?

I used Android Auto for the first time yesterday in a rental 2016 VW Jetta. The Phone and Music interfaces look nearly identical to what I get when pairing bluetooth and using the Car's native interface. I'm not seeing much added functionality. As for Navigation, it is nice be able to see it on the car's display. However, since it is landscape mode, only half the screen actually displays the map since there not enough height. When comparing it to what I see on my phone, it is nearly the exact same size. The other half displays the same info I would see on the phone, actually a little less. I suppose the buttons are a little bigger. One small issue is that my phone supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 2 but since I Android auto must use USB, I am left with whatever power the car ouputs. It seemed to be enough to slowly charge my phone even with Nav,Music, Phone, Bluetooth. Is it actually necessary to keep bluetooth on since the USB cable is connected? Another minor nag is that it seems to trigger night mode if I turn on the headlights which got annoying. I'd much rather it uses the light sensor.
I'm not really seeing the advantage. Am I missing some big features?
It seems its about the same to just use my phone and by doing that, I get access to more notifications and all my apps and can see my Nav plus music/phone at the same time.
Youve posted in the wrong section - this is the Android head unit forum, you want the Android Auto forum.
I think the main advantage is you don't have to mount your phone, and you can use the steering wheel to initiate choice controls. I understand what you are saying though. There is nothing life changing

I've used it a bit longer. I think the major issue I have found is that it is buggy and slow, at least for me. There were probably maybe 3 major issues I found.
1. From sitting down in my car til when it was fully connected and working with nav took way too long.
2. It was very buggy. When the Nav needs to talk, it lowers the volume of the music temporarily. However sometimes, it just completely stops the music with no way to restart it other than unplugging and plugging in again (which would be very distracting while driving). Even then, often it wont reconnect correctly sometimes even causing the car part to reboot
3. It blocks my ability to text. Even on the phone. I can get it to work by going to recent apps and switching but it makes it harder to do it. They shouldn't be deciding what is "safe" and what isnt. If I'm stopped at a red light, I feel it is safe enough to send a txt, but with the blocking it makes it harder. Also it doesnt consider that I may have a passenger in the car that might want to use my phone to send or read a txt. Also, it didnt seem to read google voice or show gmail notificaitons.
It could be so much better

I understand you may feel it is safe to text at a stop light, but most people fell this too and get caught up in the use of their devices in a car. Texting from a car should be outlawed PERIOD! Even stopped, you need to pay attention to your surroundings while in a vehicle. This is the only way to drive safely. Technological advantages like Android Auto help us band-aid the problem by getting people to look up and away from their screen to hopefully see what is going on around you. Too many people have lost their lives to others not being fully aware of what is happening on the road. I am a tech junkie, but I know it needs to be moderated to keep everyone safe. I see someone on their phone at a light and I feel they are a danger to me and everyone around. Please, stop texting all together from the car. Trust me, if you are important enough......they will wait.
That being said....Sorry (very emotional today). Android Auto does have its advantages with offering Nav in a vehicle without paying for the upgraded interior or having to pay for OnStar Nav. Plus, it keeps heads pointed in the right direction. Up. It would be nice to have it be wireless and not be tethered with a USB cable, but I understand with the amount of data that needs to be passed. Soon all features from the phone could be hands free with inventions like Android Auto paving the way.
Thank you for listening to me rant.
The advantages are:
1. Phone gets GPS signal and speed data from car head unit antenna. This is much accurate than phone.
2. AA integrates with car multimedia and you can control it with steering wheel buttons
3. You can launch Google voice control and read some notifications.
Potentially AA could be much better, but Google had capped most of the good functions:
1. Driving GPS applications are limited to online apps (Gmaps and Waze) which are not offering the capabilities of good apps like Sygic TomTom or iGo.
2. Notification reading of all notifications.
3. Integration of email.
4. Video when not moving.

Sorry, that is a bit ridiculous. One could argue that being on a call (on a hands free phone) is more distracting. What about people that eat while they drive. Maybe we should outlaw having conversations with passengers too. Alot of distractions are dangerous, it is the driver's responsibility to behave safely. I haven't even mentioned that the driver isnt necessarily the one interacting with android auto. The passenger might be the one that wants to use the device but they are blocked out too.
Oh and guess what, a nag message isnt going to stop someone from doing what they need to do. It just makes it harder and even more distracting.

I don't need AA. If I connect bluetooth, I can control my media with the steering wheel buttons. At least the basic stuff (play/stop, prev, next, vol)
On some cars, I found that hitting the voice button will trigger it on my phone, otherwise, its fairly easy to press the button on the screen. I can also swipe down to read notificaitons. (ofcourse everything looks smaller)

Red Tint on Nubia Red Magic 3

Yeah mine isn't bad unless I turn brightness below 20%...the CN Rom has display color adjustments, apparently they deemed this non-exclusive to Global Rom.

Well if it's too bad and you bought from Red Magic Store you do have 12 month warranty. But updates would be nice for sure.

Indeed, literally I circumvent it by turning off Adaptive brightness and leave it on 50%, the game launcher has brightness control built in too so that helps. If you want gestures, I can recommend "Fluid NG" in the playstore, then run the adb command to hide stock navigation and you can turn it off and on when you want. The CN Rom truly is great but the SMS system is not good in US with their WeChat or whatever it's called lol. Plus LTE won't work you can only get 4g on CN.

RM3, 8/128GB, Red, NA variant.
Just got the phone. First impressions here first. I'll probably write a full review with pictures in a separate thread.
There's no particular order of importance of these following points.
1) The phone is gorgeous - it's a stunner. Also, huge. Makes my old OP6 look small. Side note: there's only swiping down from notification portion of the screen - meaning that you have to reach to the very top with the first swipe. But overall one-handed operation is not that much different from OP6 - in other words, tough.
2) Less slippery than all glass OP6. Feels really good holding it.
3) The display quality is on par with OP6. Not quite as picturesque as a GS9 display, but very nice looking. Haven't tested it in full sunlight yet. Also, the display is huge. Literally feels much bigger than OP6. The bezels are noticeable, but are definitely not a problem because most apps hide them.
4) Display 90Hz - you notice it right away and then you forget about it. But when I went to OP6 (the fastest phone I've used before,) it felt a bit choppy. 90Hz is real. Also, the phone itself feels significantly faster than OP6 - boot up, how quickly widgets update after a reboot, etc.
5) The battery is... fantastic - I'm so far projecting about 11 hours SOT.
6) The camera is MEH. I'll have to test it more, but so far it looks like a weaker version of OP6, which was already meh. I'm sure it's gonna provide excellent pictures in good light (haven't tried), but in low light - not so good. For example, 48mp mode is completely useless in low light. You have to switch to 12mp to get a decent shot (it combines 4 pixels into one to get more light.) I tried a few Google Cam apks, but haven't found one that worked.
7) There are bugs:
a) My sim card won't allow to set up call forwarding with AT&T. It works fine with OP6. Gonna get a new sim card tomorrow.
b) Swype keyboard (old apk) just doesn't stick. I tried like a million of different ones, none stick - phone always reverts to GBoard. Maybe it's an Android Pie issue. Very annoying.
c) Chromecast and Smart TV work perfectly except for one thing - screen mirroring doesn't work with Chromecast. You can stream, cast, mirror with TV etc, but that one single thing just doesn't work - it says Connecting...
Overall, I'm very happy with the phone, provides I can resolve some of the issues above.
Just bought the eco-sport case... It's worth the price, but if you are planning to use or buy the controller, just by the the case suitable to it...
UPDATE on the Red one:
1) Chromecast now works with screen mirroring just fine - must have needed to be rebooted.
2) I think the issue with the sim card and not being able to configure call forwarding is almost clear now - the card reports the Slot 1 IMEI as CDMA (14 digits). But even the Slot 2 IMEI (15 digits) gives an error "Network or Sim Card error." Called ATT and they recommended a new sim card, free of charge. When I get a new sim card tomorrow I will report back.
3) I have a serious issue with either the phone or the power button position. My phone rebooted 3 times in 5 minutes today. It may have been me inadvertently pressing the power button w/o realizing it. It it may be a defective phone. I rebooted the phone, cleared cache in recovery, and there were no more problems. However, the power button is in a perfect position for my thumbs, both hands, to press that button without realizing it. Maybe I'm holding it wrong.
UPDATE #2:
1) I'm still struggling with some issues but I am also getting some resolved. The power button thing came back once - I still cannot tell what the problem is.
2) On the bright side - this camera is amazing in bright light and medium light conditions.
I took some photos in good and dim lights. The results were spectacular.
Example - a room was illuminated by a single weak lamp and a distant window full of sunlight. The 12mp picture was as good if not better than a Galaxy S9 picture.
This was significantly better than OP6.
I think if someone made a Google Cam port for this camera, it would be flagship level quality.
Guys, FYI, some of our questions might be answered through this link: https://bbs.nubia.cn/thread-1472848-1-1.html
[The system of XDA won't allow me to share this as a new thread so I'll just post this a reply]
It's in Mandarin but google will translate the texts..
For those who worry about the security of the thread, here are its contents:
(P.S. They refer to the Red Magic 3 as Red Devil 3)
Since the launch of the Red Devils 3, due to its strong performance, super heat dissipation, cool appearance, and long-lasting battery life, it has attracted many magic beans to place orders at the first time. The first 90Hz screen, 4D shock and five-finger control are well received.
After the listing of the Red Devils 3, we also received feedback from some enthusiastic magic beans, and compiled this quick question for some of the more feedback problems, hoping to help everyone get started smoothly~
PS: It is expected that a new version will be pushed at the end of May (actually likely to be advanced) to focus on some of the more feedbacks.
Please have the magic beans in need to leave IMEI in this questionnaire, we will give priority to push. Https://wj.qq.com/s2/3664012/b082/
Red Devils 3 Q & A APP Banner.jpg
1, the screen has a distinct graininess, the resolution is not so high. It doesn't look too delicate, can you feel the granularity?
A: Previously, on some models, to save memory usage, the resolution of the built-in wallpaper was reduced.
Subsequent we will increase the resolution of our own wallpaper. Please download the HD wallpaper yourself to experience the clarity of the screen.
2, the screen color is a bit rich, the color temperature is a bit yellow when the eye protection mode is not opened, is it yellower than the first generation?
A: The Red Devil 3 is an AMOLED material, which is more beautiful than the LCD display. It is a normal phenomenon.
Regarding the color temperature, the factory is adjusted according to the style of the public, and also supports customization.
You can go to the Settings - Display - Screen Color Display and adjust to your favorite color temperature on the palette according to your own habits.
3. I feel that the top speaker sound is smaller than the bottom sound speaker. It sounds like no texture, no bass effect?
A: In order to give users a better gaming experience, the Red Devils 3 uses a dual-speaker and dual-tone intelligent power amplifier solution to increase the volume.
In the audio design, in order to ensure the balance of volume and tone, the upper speaker is mainly used to output the medium-high frequency band. The lower speaker outputs a full-band solution for an excellent listening experience.
In the actual experience, the external stereo is very obvious, please feel free to use.
4, my mobile phone protective film is smashed, watching how some bubbles are going on?
A: I am very sorry to bring you a bad experience. Please call the after-sales customer service 400-700-6600 for this question. For the flaw on the film, we will give you a new film for free.
5, sometimes the phone will automatically restart, how is this going?
A: We have located the reason and will resolve this issue in the next release, please update to the latest version to experience.
6, playing games sometimes encounter breaks?
A: The new version has been optimized for touch. Please update to the latest version after V2.14 and later. We will continue to follow this feedback in the future.
7, a key change machine connection timeout, Sony mobile phones and Xiaomi 8 can not connect.
A: Please upgrade your phone to the latest version first. We will also perform internal verification simultaneously, and will fix it as soon as possible if it is confirmed that there is a problem. If the new version is still not resolved, you can contact the after-sales service for testing.
8. Feel that the right side of the capacitor button is not sensitive.
A: Since the scene of the right capacitor button was found to be inadvertently touched during the test, some adjustments were made later.
We have feedback optimization for such issues. If it is more influential, please contact the after-sales service for testing.
9, playing the king's glory encounters the problem of crashing and crashing.
A: Please update your mobile phone to the latest version and experience it. If there is still a recurrence, you can contact the after-sales service.
10. Can't connect to WiFi? It will not work after restarting and restoring the factory settings.
A: Since Android 9.0 has improved security permissions, the switch to add a hidden network is turned off by default.
To add a hidden network, open Settings - WLAN, slide to the bottom, click "Add Network", then click "Hide Network", select "Yes", and then enter the name of the hotspot you want to add to add it.
If the WiFi network that is normally displayed directly cannot be connected, please provide the brand and model of the router. We will transfer it to R&D for analysis, and we suggest that you contact the after-sales detection process directly.
11. The fever is a bit big when playing games.
A: Turning on the "Red Devils Time" will result in a slight increase in power consumption and heat. You can try to close it first. The specific path is: enter the game space, click on the avatar in the upper right corner, click on “Time Setting”, and click on the first item “Red Devil Time” to close. At the same time, click “fan adjustment” to turn on the cooling fan and adjust the fan speed to “quick cooling”.
12. The triangle on the right side of the back cover logo light is found to be out of color, and the top left of the camera is also. I thought it was the oil on my hand. I cleaned it with a wet tissue and found it to fade.
Answer: The logo on the back cover LOGO lamp and the camera is laser engraved, which belongs to physical etching. In theory, it will not “color fade”. This may be caused by dirt on the surface. Please wipe it with a dry cloth or a corner of the clothes to return to normal.
13, using Huawei, Xiaomi and other friends charger and data cable can not be charged, unplug the charger still shows charging?
A: Since the chargers and data lines of different manufacturers have their own optimization and limitations, it is recommended to charge the mobile phone only with the original standard charger and data cable.
14, stimulating the battlefield game is prone to the right perspective can not move?
A: This problem is generally caused by the position of the palm of the right hand pressing to the edge of the screen when the horizontal screen is held, causing the finger to move. It is recommended to adjust the holding posture appropriately. Subsequent versions will also be optimized for such scenarios.
15. After setting the screen refresh rate to 90FPS in the game space, is there a feeling of spurring the battlefield?
A: At present, only some games support the 90FPS refresh rate. Since the stimulus battlefield does not support 90FPS display temporarily, it is recommended to set the screen refresh rate to 60FPS or “Auto”. The recommended setting is “Auto”, and the game works better when the game settings match the screen refresh rate.
16. What is the effective rate of the 240Hz touch screen reporting rate?
A: Add the app to the game space application list. The application in the game space list can support the 240Hz touch screen report rate regardless of whether it is open in the game space.
17. When the hands are held horizontally (especially in the game state), the WiFi signal is affected?
A: The Red Devils esports game phone uses a dual antenna design. The WiFi antenna is located on both sides of the top of the phone. It is recommended that you do not hold the top of the phone with your palm when playing games or watching movies on the horizontal screen. Use your fingers to support your phone to prevent the phone's wifi signal from being blocked.
18. Will the fan get into the water and get into the ash?
A: The fan body can achieve IP55 waterproof and dustproof, and all of them have passed relevant tests. Please feel free to use them. It is recommended that you use them with care to avoid any troubles to your experience.
19. Can't connect to the computer?
A: The latest bidirectional Type-C data cable is included in the package, not the traditional data cable with USB interface.
If your computer is relatively new, with a Type-C interface (smaller, similar to the charging interface on the bottom of the phone), the original data cable included in the package can be directly connected.
If your computer comes with a normal USB interface (traditional, larger USB interface), use a traditional Type-C data cable with a USB interface. In most cases, the data cable can be used universally.
But be careful not to use the Huawei brand data cable, you may encounter compatibility issues.
After plugging in the computer, you need to unlock the phone first, and click the top line from the drop-down status bar to say "Android system is charging this device via USB", click on the menu, and then select "Transfer File", then you can get from the computer. I saw the connection information. If you still have problems, please contact the after-sales detection process.
20, the system is too inhuman, and add some daily application functions. WeChat Alipay payment code sweep, shortcut keys to open flashlights and so on.
A: The above said that there is already, please pull down the notification bar, swipe to the right, click "+", which is "custom".
Go to the bottom of the page to list more switches, click to add the switch you need, long press the added switch, you can freely adjust the position of the shortcut switch.
