Minimalist case that provides good corner drop protection - OnePlus 7T Accessories

I owned a Nokia 8 a couple of years back and one of my favourite things about it was the CC-801 case - a bit like the OnePlus Sandstone case but even more minimalist with exposed sides and just a back and corner protection.
Was never able to find anything similar for my OnePlus 6 so settled on the Sandstone and was generally pretty happy with it.
However, I purchased an OP7T a few days ago and was pleasantly surprised when I came across the following on Amazon UK
OnePlus 7T Case, Ultra Slim Frosted Transparent
It arrived this afternoon and whilst it may not be quite as slim as the CC-801 or the Sandstone, I think I am going to like it a lot.
The sides are not covered but the top and the corners get decent chunky protection - much more than a Sandstone.
The black disc on the back is my own magnetic one...

Got a similar case with black edges. Feels like holding the phone naked. Btw - Where did you get your tempered glass from?

The SP is Omoton glass from Amazon UK. It is 1-2mm too wide. I complained to them and they promised to offer a smaller version in the next few days on Amazon UK.
Where did you get your case - does the back offer great grip?

Update: they have now added a newer slightly narrower version which should no longer have the halo effect.
I have ordered the newer one - and will let you know if they fixed the size issue once I receive it.

I have GESMA from amazon and it looks and feels so good. The buttons also feels nice and are well marked. The corners look like they can survive drops, but will see about that. The rear camera is also nicely protruded by a milimeter

how is the case holding up?

I recommend Caseology Vault. Perfect minimalist case that provides very good protection both front and camera cutout, looks so elegant as well

Hi, I am guessing the question was directed at me.
I did use the case for a few weeks - but I missed the OnePlus Sandstone case that I had used with my previous OP6.
So, when I managed to get hold of a Sandstone case cheap I switched to that.
Still happy with the case and it does provide more protection than the Sandstone - but I had used the Sandstone for so long I just ended up switching back.

I agree. Excellent balance of form and function and very good camera protection, yet not at all bulky. Overall, I think it's the best of the three cases I've tried.

Could you please share a photo to show how much does it protect the front side? Like you did with the card on camera lens?

Sure thing.
These are with the Supershieldz tempered glass screen protector (0.32mm).

I know this thread is dead but for future people looking for a super solid and sexy option for a minimalist 7T case that also is built from some of the strongest material on Earth we have this:
It's a full Kevlar minimalist case. Comes in two color patterns, black and gray twill and this red and black twill. I think the red and black looks amazing. It's obviously not the most protective case but when paired with a shatterproof screen protector such as the rhino shield impact skin, your phone is in good hands. Since it's kevlar, it can take some pretty devastating hits and keep your phone safe. I highly recommend, I have two of them for a backup when my first one gets too ugly from abuse.

This one:

May not be compatible with the 7t variant. I don't know this phone's product line specs. One may be released for your phone in the future if this one doesn't work for your model.
The Bolt is the only case I use on my Note 10+.
Thin, easy to hold and it has soaked up repeated falls onto concrete with zero damage.
I use Gorilla IQ Sheild for a screen protector; easy to apply, inexpensive and long lived.
Both have done well keeping my 10+ from harm without spending more than $30*.
*on my 2nd Bolt case because of repeated hard drops. No visible damage to the case but out of an abundance of caution about possible corner fatigue retired the first one. Better safe than sorry.
At $20 a pop it's a no brainer.

IMAK Clear LG G2 Case - My Review

Purchased this case, just got it today (2 weeks shipping to me).
I am not affiliated with the seller in any way, this is simply me documenting my experience with the case so far.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/IMAK-D802-2...DA_Cases&var=570205273984&hash=item3f2b1f8de1
I was looking for something light, cheap, snug fitting, and stylish, this case definitely fits the bill.
Lets start with the Negatives:
- the case is clear polycarbonate and is VERY prone to scratching in its current state (in my case I plan on giving it a frosted finish anyway so this doesn't really apply to my case)
- the corners of the phone are still partially exposed with this style of case in the event of drops (again I don't plan on dropping the phone )
Now The Pluses:
- Sturdy, the polycarbonate does not feel fragile or brittle at all and has some flex
- It feels a bit grippier in the hand than the stock back does
- the case edges are raised by 0.5 mm when you lay your phone face down so the screen doesn't touch the surface.
- Cheap under $6 gets the job done for me
- Light, feels alot lighter/more agile in the hand compared to the rubber case I had on it before (doesn't feel like I actually have a case on the phone now).
- Very snug fit; there is no way it is coming off the phone, you have to pry it off.
- See pics below (excuse the iphone pics..):

How do you feel this would compare to some of the more expensive cases in the market (incipio dual pro, spigen) in terms of actual drop protection?
Also, what screen protector are you using? Is that one of those tempered glass screens?
Edited. In terms of drop protection vs. incipio dual pro and spigen, the latters would be better protection, but they will also be bulkier, that is the trade off.
I have a rubber case that is more drop resistant than the IMAK case, but the IMAK is is much lighter/less bulky by comparison.

Edited. I had the quotes in there so you get a notification that you've received a reply.
I wanted to confirm that you really meant to say that the Incipio would have better drop protection than the Spigen and not the other way around (since you later went on to say "but" re bulk), thanks!
Are the exposed rubber portions of the Dual Pro susceptible to major lint/dust attraction? If so, is it easy to clean (I was thinking of getting the white Dual Pro to match a white G2).
Do you think there's enough room on the sides of the case to have a tempered screen protector?
Didn't realize the phone came with a well-fitting screen protector from day 1. That's pretty cool!
I have never used the Spigen or Incipio but I think its fairly safe to say all 3 cases will have enough room for current slim tempered glass screen protectors once companies figure out the curved glass edges which are currently giving screen protector manufacturers a headache.
The stock screen protector is definitely a nice touch in the interim.

No experience with the DualPro, but they list the material as silicone.
My experience with silicone is it's a grippy material and does a good job attracting dust and having it stick to the surface. Cleaning is generally impossible unless you rinse it through some warm tap water.
I left the stock screen protector on my phone as well.

Definitely. My G2 is going to be coming in after black friday (at this point, there's no point in ordering now at full price) so hopefully the extra few weeks gives manufacturers some extra time to get the fit right.

[Garbage] Speck Presidio Grip, any alternative?

Greetings, mates.
I was a big fan of Speck products with all my phones since iPhone 3GS.
Week ago, bought Z2 Force and was glad to discover that Speck is producing the case for it. It is some kind of a "line refresh" and now called "Presidio Grip". The main difference over well-known CandyShell, i thought, was matte finish and rubber pattern.
But i was wrong. The main difference is awful quality of these new cases. I've read dozens of feedbacks at Amazon on this "Presidio" lineup and all of them showing extreme low quality and materials used in them.
Typical use time now is 2-3 weeks, after that rubber begins to peel off, hard outer shell begins to crack above the volume buttons etc.
I'm attaching only some of feedback photos here, all made not later than a month after the purchase. I was shocked a little, realising that in 2018 Speck is trying to sell case for $40+ with such a low quality... I can buy same "quality" garbage for less than a 2$ at Ali, really. That's definitely not what i'm expecting to obtain for such amount.
Now you really need a case to protect a $40 case, lol.
So, my question is are there any other hybrid cases for our Z2 that is not so bulky as Otterbox and is a good compromise between thickness and protection, like old Speck?
I use Spigen on my Moto Z2 Force , Google Pixel XL, iPhone 7 plus and love the fit and finish...
I actually bought the presidio grip for the Moto z2 force. It's junk and nothing like the previous ones I've had.
Have you looked at the under armour case? It has the grip like the speck. The Incipio octane does too on the sides.

Spigen rugged? It is not dual-layer design, so not a variant for me. Besides, it is typical cheapest possible $1 one layer TPU case with the only difference - quality of molding.
Spigen tough is like Otterbox, too bulky and outer shell scratches very easily, showing the white plastic beneath thin paint layer.

Incipio octane is a killer for our soft aluminium back. I had same type case on my old 1st gen Atrix. When dust and sand particles goes through camera hole, whole case begin to act like a sandpaper - soft TPU sides will move just a little every time you take a phone or move it to a pocket while hard polycarbonate back will scratch the surface with that dust particles.

This is a 100% hit the bull's-eye, thank's mate, exactly what i've searched for. Dunno why i never heard such brand before. :good:
The Under Armour cases are actually made by Incipio. My biggest issue with them is the thickness. Since the Z2F is already so rugged, I'm pretty comfortable with just a slim tpu case and tempered glass. The Tech21 Evo Check can be found online for under $10 now., so I'll probably pick one of those up.
I have this case.

It is nice if you are looking for a thin case and a holster. Slightly harder to take off for using mods. (I always pop out the plastic screen protector)
I also have this case
Spigen Rugged Armor Moto Z2 Force Case with Resilient Shock Absorption and Carbon Fiber Design for Moto Z2 Force (2017) - Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074BCC6K7/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_hVlTAb0RY15T8
It is a simple slide in the pocket case that is easy to remove to use the mods.
Both are great cases and have held up without any problems.
Is anyone able to determine the model/manufacturer of the case on photo? Found it on glass feedback thread at amazon. Looks interesting.

Clear & hard cases for Mi 8?

Hey there, I've been obsessing with clear cases lately to show off the blue back. So far I haven't found any with rigid feel to it. I also want the case to have raised edges on the front, which would protect the screen when I put my phone face-down.
Any suggestions?

It may take more time for the case manufacturers to realise the Xiaomi Mi 8 even exists unlike the top two brands.
In hope they'll make hybrid transparent cases, I'm keeping an eye on Olixar ExoShield Crystal Clear.
Earlier this year, I purchased an OnePlus 6 (not for myself) and I also ordered a Ringke Fusion and a Spigen Ultra Hybrid so this other person can decide which is best and use the other for spare. Due to time constraints and after watching an idiotic YouTuber smacking his phone on the desk, I also purchased an Olixar ExoShield Crystal Clear.
Spigen's edges seems slippery, ever conscious it'll fall out of my hand, the case fitted oaky. The Ringke Fusion seems gimmicky, it fitted better but it gives an impression it'll not protect the device when dropped.
Olixar, a relatively new company, I thought would not match the quality of the two better known brands.
To my surprise, this ExoShield fitted just perfectly, the tranparency was very clear as glass and the polycarbonate has a non scratch coating and non yellowing material but the most impressive thing of all is the edges have non slip material, it seems to want to hold my hand. This ExoShield was most impressive, difficult to describe with words.
It reminded me of my old Nexus 5 case Tech21 Impactology hybrid case (with trasluscent red/orange edges).
As I usually don't use glass screen protectors, this ExoShield will greatly help to protect the device so hopefully Olixar will make this model for the Mi 8.
I'm still waiting in hope that Olixar or Tech21 will have future offerings.
Psssssssssst. maybe if we all bombard/spam them, they'll take notice and bring out a model for Mi 8 ?

Still early days for the Western World to realise Xiaomi will become Big and with their aggressive pricing Xiaomi will eventually overtake all. Hopefully accessories suppliers will begin to supply the demand, just as OnePlus and Huawei had few quality accessories in the beginning out here in the Wild West.
What's not logical and incomprehensible is why Xiaomi doesn't have their own line of accessories. I for one am willing to pay for a quality case instead of those Chinese $1 junk (no disrespect, I'm also Chinese).
So, it does seem we need to enter Official Xiaomi Forum and stoke up some embers to recruit/entice owners to pestering.

Agree with ya. Xiaomi certainly has the brand name. I'd love that they make as many various cases for their (flagship at least) phones. I'd buy & trust those much more than the junk spam on Chinese retail websites :/
That being said, what Xiaomi is lacking right now is supply chain to penetrate western market. I truly hope for that

These AliExpress offering are so cheap that I purchased nearly all the clear models to try and all went into the bin.
They are not robust, doesn't offer a sense of security when in the hand.
I have an Olixar ExoShield Crystal Clear model for an OnePlus 6, liked it so much I purchased the same model for an iPhone and now hoping they will make the same model for the Mi 8.
Link is to a silly video review but rather humourous, @ 4:07-4:08/5:50 he hits the phone on the desk, I did that and it seems to bounce, more rubber than harder TPU material but the most impressive thing of all is the tactile non slip material.
I'd settle for a Ringke Fusion Clear or a Spigen Ultra Hybrid Crystal but given the choice the Olixar will be at the top of the list because of its edge.

Sounds good! I honestly thought those cases with yrims are all as soft as the stock case, that why I haven't considered one yet

Spigen Liquid Air case first impression

I have the Spigen rugged armour case for Oneplus 5 previously, and this case felt more premium and more sturdy right out of the box. It feels denser as well but it is still TPU so it's still flexible; the design/aesthetics are more refined than the liquid air cases from previous years, offering the same minimalist low profile stealth look. I have to add that the case does add a little more heft to the phone overall, but does not add much bulk.
I've always liked the feel of the Apple silicone cases on my friends' Iphones, and the patterned back on this case feels like a close second. It feels smooth and sleek but does not help in adding friction/grip when holding it on the palm. Rather, the bulk of the gripiness of the case rests on the newly designed grooved sides, which allows more purchase on the fingers/palm.
Camera and screen lip protection is functionally minimal, ensuring that the camera and screen not touch the surface of the table when placed down and not interfere with daily usage such as swiping in from the side of the screen for back gesturing on the new Android 10. I find the corners and edges of this case to be soft and rounded, making it a rather comfortable experience holding the phone at all angles, even against the ear for phone calls.
Now the rest of the details can be expected of Spigen cases like the clicky buttons, easy access to the alert slider and accurate cut outs for the ports and microphones.
To sum up, if you are looking for a case that promises to provide both drop protection, adds little bulk in the process, and fits your 7T like a glove, I can recommend this case. Will update this review later if I find anything noteworthy to add.

Yeah you're right to ask, the official tgsp is not compatible with the liquid air and rugged armor cases.
Case looks very minimal and sleek liked it.

Not sure why Spigen puts out case after case after case that is not compatible with most screen protectors. My first OP phone was the OP5, and this goes back at least that far. I really liked Spigen cases when I was rocking a Google Nexus, but alas I have passed on them for as long as I have been a OP owner. Really disappointing cause others seem capable of designing correctly for this phone.
Using this case since day one with that phone and the original OnePlus screenprotector installed as delivered and got no problems in any way. So many reports claiming about the compatibility, but tried it because of the slim and sleek design and many good experiences with Spigen in the past. Got no regrets till now. It's just a bit more slippery to me as others. Using it for 3.5 months 24/7 and dropped it hard twice with no damages.

Nillkin CP+ Pro (with covered selfie lens) is the only one that fits because the corners have the wrong radius.

Accessories Accessories for Zenfone 8 (cases, screen protectors, etc...)

Hello, I see there aren't many cases out there for the Zenfone 8! So I created this thread for people to share their findings with other people.
Personnally, the only 2 cases that I saw that are not very cheap cases from aliexpress are these ones:
Cases
High Protection
RhinoShield Solid Suit (Offers high customization, full case with optional printed back plate)
DevilCase Guardian II (Offers high customization, bumper case with a swappable clear or printed back plate)
Medium Protection
to be added
Light Protection
to be added
To Be Verified/Tested
FZZSZS Silicone + Sreen Protector (Silicone case and 2 tempered glass screen protectors included)
Osophter Shock Absorbing Clear case (Reinforced corners, clear case
Shantime Thin TPU Case (looks pretty cheap from the pictures, especially at the bottom ports)
J&D Thin Clear Case
Screen ProtectorsTempered Glass
Supershieldz 3 pack (rated 1 star, would wait before buying)
Plastic
RhinoShield impact protection
However, these cases are a bit thick (and expensive), so if anybody finds any kind of case, please post it here
Let's hope more manufacturers join in and make cases for this phone!
(I will edit this list to add cases as they come out)
Edit: I bought the RhinoShield Case, will write a small review as well as some photos when I get it (or IF I get it...)
There are cases and screen protection available at Aliexpress.
Leather, fabric, silicone, You name it, it is there.
Also screen protectors, hydrogel and tempered glass.

Thanks! I have edited the post to add them and a new screen protector section.
Does the Zenfone have a screen protector already on the screen? I've seen Samsung Galaxy phones with protector on the screen out of the box.

Unfortunately no, it does not come with a preinstalled screen protector. However it does come with a higher than average quality hard plastic case so thats a big plus!
avoid this one https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B096TKQ6MG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 not compatible with fingerprint sensor
Just applied the upscreen Scratch Shield Clear
protectionfilms24.com
Screen protectors, tempered glass, privacy filter & cases for more than 30k devices, free shipping | Smartphone, Smartwatch, Digital Camera, Notebook, etc.

Pretty easy application, no bubbles, feels great, fingerprints work the same as before, and it's very case friendly, a bit too friendly even for the ASUS case.

I see many dust particles. Are they under or above the mentioned film?
And why you applied film instead of their glass?

Yeah, It looks like also it (film) has not good quality of the sides. like it was cut by kitchen knife instead of professional tools or laser idk.

Yeah. Don't worry. When this glued comes trash, just try glass next time
I use this case: Link I like it very much. Grippier Than the original, feels good in hand.
Also tried this hydrogel protector.
It does not work with fingerprint reader unfortunately: Link

How protective would you says it is? So I can add it to the list (how thin is it and does it look like it would absorb shocks easily or badly)
Excellent cases
I have now tried 2 screen protectors.
One full covering IMAK Pro+ (Or the kinda, names vary depending on site) and a CALANS Not-full-covering 9H.
The CALANS seats very badly and leaves air on the sides.
With neither does the fingerprint reader work properly. It is a hit and miss game of hundreds of tries to even register a fingerprint and especially the tips are really hard to register.
Seems like using a protector on this phone is a no go.

I'm still using the upscreen protector and the reader works flawlessly with my left thumb

Do not buy from Amazon the screen protectors "LEEKUANGSU [2 Pack] for ASUS Zenfone 8". They are 3.5 mm too short and the packaging does not mention Asus Zenfone 8. Just a scam.
Hi, is there any screen protector which works perfectly with a fingerprint reader and can be bought on Aliexpress? Thank you
Hi.
im looking for a case that turns of the screen when closing it.
The phone is listed to have a hall sensor so it should be possible.
Just bought a cheap flip cover on AliExpress but it doesent work.
Anybody that knows about a working one ? Or maybe the hardware doesent support it after all?
Thanks
Knievel
