Software update on Tencent version with Global ROM - ASUS ROG Phone II Questions & Answers

Hello everyone, I as the title says, I got the Tencent version (8/128GB) with the global ROM installed. I found that this is most likely a modified version (which is weird as my unit came sealed). Everything works just nice except for the OTA updates, as it just says there are not new updates available.
My question is, is there currently any relatively safe method to update the software to the latest version? For me is a bit important to be able to have software updates, but I don't really want to run the risk of bricking my device.
I read this post about Flashing WW ROM and Changing CN fingerprint to WW https://forum.xda-developers.com/rog-phone-2/how-to/flashing-ww-rom-changing-cn-fingerprint-t3969765 but I don't really know if this are the steps to follow as my device already has the WW ROM, and I'm not very familiar with the "fingerprint" topic.
Here are two screenshots of my device info:

I have a bit of experience installing custom ROMs and that kind of stuff on my older motorola devices, but I don't really get where do I need to look to get started with this device. Any kind of help would be very appreciated  :fingers-crossed:

Thanks for your answer. So basically changing the fingerprint will allow me to get automatic OTA updates? Or will I need to manually download and place them into the storage to get recognized, or will I have to flash them?

Tencent version with global ROM is not supported by Asus so no OTA updates. You can download raw ROM and follow guides to manually flash without data loss.

how to do that, without lose data manual flash?

Very simple, just download the official firmware from asus website and save in the root of internal storage. Thereafter, reboot and your phone will prompt you for software update.

Manual Update failed
Manual update is failing, I uploaded the screenshot of my phones firmware and the update I downloaded below. Thanks

Your fingerprint is still under CN:
asus/CN_1001D
You need to change that to asus/WW_1001D

I got same issue my finger print is ww but my model is ASUS_I001DE instead of ASUS_I00DA how to change?

Same here , my device is asus_I00DE n unable to update to a10

update finger print ww
update finger print ww. you tube bobby prats

Kindly reminder, update android 10 will let sim 2 slot lost band 28(700).

I am having this exact issue however my fingerprint says WW not CN. Any ideas?

Update failed
My rog phone is converted from CN to WW but when i update it manually it shows update failed.even my fingerprint also converted to WW please help me
My whatsaap number is +923034393475

My rom and fingerprints are both on WW version
Bt i am not getting any software update
Even i can't not update manually, it says software update failed, how to update on Android 10?

have same isssue, u were able to update somehow?

If your fingerprint and firmware are both WW, but it still get the error when updating, try doing the last WW-16 update and then the WW-17. I think it is a too big jump for the system. there is 2 different android versions between (9 and android 10) as you know.

[NEWS] [GUIDE] Redmi 6A gets stable Pie update

Xiaomi Redmi 6A gets stable Android 9 Pie update. The first ROM version with Pie is MIUI 10.4.1.0. It is currently being rolled out to all users in a random manner. The guide to install this ROM manually is written below.
The first impression is good. No drastic change have been noticed. I was looking for the Digital Wellbeing and AI Battery features, but as of now, I only found the latter feature. The system font also seems a little lighter.
Little 3G/4G icons are shown above the network bars on the status bar. Some settings are moved around, but not much have been added.
Talking of problems, I haven't found anything that hampers usage greatly, but the Auto Brightness feature seems to be broken.
Overall, its mostly under-the-hood update. I expect more features to be added eventually. I should also say that, Xiaomi announced that Redmi 6A will get MIUI 11 along with Android Pie. So that's good.
How to instalk this update?
If you are on the Global Stable ROM, then you will receive this update very soon. But if you don't want to wait, you can do it manually. Here's how.
1. First download the update from HERE and keep it in your phone somewhere accessible, preferably in Download folder.
2. Open Settings, select About phone, then select System update.
3. Tap on the "10" logo a few times untill you get a notification about additional settings being unlocked.
4. Tap the 3 dot button and select Choose update package.
5. Select the file thatbyou downloaded. It will now gather information about the update and ask you to reboot your phone. Do it.
6. It will now start verifying the downloaded file and after that, it will automatically continue with the update process.
7. Then the phone will reboot again and the MI logo will show up. This time it will take about 5-10 minutes for the boot process to complete.
8. After the phone boots up, you have successfully updated your Redmi 6A to Android 9 Pie with MIUI 10.4.1.0.
Works great :good:
Works perfect. Thanks

Idk if it is just me, or I can't download official ROMs from anywhere like am I blocked? Can someone upload official latest 8.1 ROM (fastboot flash), I can't download it from official en.miui.com, I've tried everywhere, please?
Fastboot rom for this version is not released yet guys, and there is no available english TWRP working with this update either.
I got the message via updater that the version 10.4.4.0 is ready, update from 8.1 to 9 but every time I press "download" it says "something went wrong, try again later". I tried to download the rom manually but it's impossible to find it! Every link leads to a dead bigota.miui page and you can't download from anywhere, tried over 30 different links. Anyone knows what is this about?
Or, can someone upload 10.4.4.0 global recovery ROM somewhere please? Thanks.

AT&T SM-G975U on Android 9 - "Current software is up to date"?

I've had an AT&T Galaxy S10+ sitting in a box since the beginning of last year that I finally decided to open up and use. For some reason when I run the software updater in the settings it always says that it is up to date even though the latest security patch was from March 2019 and it's still on Android 9. My other AT&T S10+ that I got during the same time (BOGO deal) is my daily driver and it always receives the OTA updates right away.
I've searched online for the firmware files to flash in ODIN but I can't seem to find the firmware files for the AT&T version.
Does anyone have a link to the latest firmware files for the AT&T S10+ (non 5g) or know of a way to force the OTA update?

I tried that and it didn't change anything. It still said the software was up to date. I cleared the system cache before that and it didn't do anything either.

AT&T firmware is hard to come by as it's not on Sam moblie. Most of the time you have to buy it from pay sites. I used gsm 2 file .com here:

Did you turn off wifi and check for an update? Sometimes that will trigger it, also try plugging the phone into a PC and use Samsung Smart Switch.

I would recommend going no higher than Android 10. Even with Android 10 you will lose some app functionality such as Karma Firewall's valuable logging feature, it will no longer work.
Pie is reasonably secure, I have 2 N10+'s, one running on 9, one on 10. The one running on 9 will remain there as it's useful for troubleshooting more so than the Q variant.
With Android 11 comes cpu cycle sucking scoped storage and forced encryption which is security overkill at the cost of performance and functionality. Scoped storage isn't active on Android 10 nor is forced encryption from what I've observed. If your device is running well, fulfilling its mission on Pie I wouldn't risk upgrading to Q. Benefits are minimal. I would recommend using Karma Firewall if you stay on Pie for better security. Karma Firewall may also be able to block the update app which give you another way to neuter this pest, but not as reliable as a package block.
To stay on Pie you simply disable the app shown below either by using Package Disabler (PM me for the link) or a adb edit to disable it. Those are the only ways to do so.
If the update does download clearing the system cache on the boot menu before it starts to install should delete it. I haven't tested this but was told this, it may or may not work. If it does install the Android 11 update there's no way to roll it back as it will update the bootloader as well locking you to only being able to flash/upgrade to 11 or higher, beware.
This is the OTA update app.

There isn't any problems, just because it works for OP it doesn't mean every global variant will get it. You can always get Xiomi.eu if you want a later release. Its practically the same with some slight modifications/ debloat. You could also just get the firmware yourself and flash it.
Yep, right! you can just manually download the official firmware and apply manually the update for your device though

There are users like us who don't want to compromise their device safety, spend time in flashing/troubleshooting and to lose some important features via unlocking the device bootloader like making some of the banking apps useless, etc. Yes, Xiaomi EU is good! Hello, what is the "New fingerprints options" novelty?

Question Is advisable manually update to a newer MIUI?

Hi there, I've bought (online) a Redmi Note 10 Pro; I am aware of the fact that this phone suffer of the proximity sensor bug: https://www.mysmartprice.com/gear/r...ly-acknowledged-upcoming-miui-update-fix-bug/
Since I don't have this phone yet, I guess if will arrive with a software fix; however, while searching, I found this discussion on Reddit:
https://www.reddit.com/r/miui/comments/pggief
As you can read, they claims that MIUI 12.5.8 will fix such bug, so I want to ask: can I directly update the phone with such MIUI?
The process seems simple, as I've read here:
Can i switch my Redmi Note 10 Pro from Stable to Stable-Beta ?
Hello so i noticed that xiaomi is rolling out miui 12.5.2 update to some users and its currently available in the xiaomi firmware update as a "Stabe-beta" variant but i am still on 12.0.10.0 so what if i download the stable-beta update through...
forum.xda-developers.com
I understand that I have to go here
https://c.mi.com/bd/miuidownload/detail?device=1900389, select the global version of Redmi Note10 Pro, then download this file https://bigota.d.miui.com/V12.5.8.0.RKFMIXM/miui_SWEETGlobal_V12.5.8.0.RKFMIXM_61c0e33df5_11.0.zip and install it directly from the phone, right?
Any thoughts about? Will I risk something? I also read that I can set the phone to receive the latest updates, otherwise.
Thank you.
I say nothing's perfect. For such a great phone at a dirt cheap price, I wouldn't care much about this issue.
Naturally, it's hard sleeping over a button left unclicked. And you know you will. It's just a matter of time so don't waste it.
Well, the phone is arrived today and luckily I didn't faced the proximity sensor bug: is working fine.
However I no have the option for manually apply an update from a zip file; I discovered that I have EEA version (RKFEUXM) which is still to 12.5.4.0:

I bought redmi note 10 pro two weeks ago. It came with miui 12.5.8 stable preinstalled.
Works like a charm. No complains
I just received the 12.5.6.0.RKFEUXM.

Regional country rules and regulations and copyright and, and ..... are different.
Here what I found out for EU version.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/MIUI
An organisation named Xiaomi Europe (xiaomi.eu), not a part of Xiaomi, was set up in 2010 as a community for English-language MIUI Android and Xiaomi products. xiaomi.eu works officially with Xiaomi on app translations and bug fixing. xiaomi.eu issues its own versions of Xiaomi MIUI ROMs, based on the stable and weekly beta versions of the Chinese ROM

Incremental update is what you get with the automatic MIUI biult in OTA update. The download package is much smaller. It will not erase your apps nor data etc. It will also probably not fix any problems you got with rougue apps or bad settings.

Question Replacing China ROM with EU ROM

I'm getting ready to change to an EU or Global ROM as soon as they are published. For previous OP phones, you would just go to https://www.oneplus.com/global/support/softwareupgrade , download the ROM, copy in the root folder of the phone and simply install it via System > System updates > Local upgrade. Once done, restarting and clearing the cache would be enough to enjoy the different stock ROM.
I can't find a Local upgrade in the new ColorOS, the closest thing is "Trial versions".
Is it possible to simply install a different region ROM without unlocking bootloader, etc? I'm waiting for the EU or Global ROMs to be released to try it myself but so far I'm a bit confused by the India ROM installation posts floating around.
Can anyone clarify if OnePlus has removed the simple Local upgrade or the current posts are dealing with some sort of ripped ROMs that require the additional installation hassle of unlocking bootloader to work?

I'm getting ready to change to an EU or Global ROM as soon as they are published. For previous OP phones, you would just go to https://www.oneplus.com/global/support/softwareupgrade , download the ROM, copy in the root folder of the phone and simply install it via System > System updates > Local upgrade. Once done, restarting and clearing the cache would be enough to enjoy the different stock ROM.

Confirmed, it shows up as "Local install" although it's greyed out (?)
Would oxygen updater work for this? The software will automatically recognise the phone and download the ROM, you'd need to choose full update.
Then use fastboot to flash each image directly to each partition.
All images can be found within a full firmware within payload.bin, use payload dumper to extract the images and flash.
Haven't done this myself but it's possible it may work.

You can download full OTA package in my channel: https://t.me/s/OnePlusOTA
Then use https://github.com/libxzr/FastbootEnhance to flash.
There is a certain brick risk. Please make sure you have enough ability to repair before trying.

He's already changed region as far as I can tell, but the bloat is still present..
Might be worth trying another firmware tbh..
Local install is greyed out because there is an update pending. Put the phone offline, make hidden files visible and delete the update files or simply reset the phone, do not connect the WiFi during setup and activate developer options.
In any case, I've tried EU/IN official full ROM and both fail. This used to work just fine but seems to be gone now. Other users using using alternate methods to flash the EU ROM report Chinese bloatware still present, so looks like the install is not clean.
What a disaster.
