AT&T SM-G975U on Android 9 - "Current software is up to date"? - Samsung Galaxy S10 Questions & Answers

I've had an AT&T Galaxy S10+ sitting in a box since the beginning of last year that I finally decided to open up and use. For some reason when I run the software updater in the settings it always says that it is up to date even though the latest security patch was from March 2019 and it's still on Android 9. My other AT&T S10+ that I got during the same time (BOGO deal) is my daily driver and it always receives the OTA updates right away.
I've searched online for the firmware files to flash in ODIN but I can't seem to find the firmware files for the AT&T version.
Does anyone have a link to the latest firmware files for the AT&T S10+ (non 5g) or know of a way to force the OTA update?

try factory resetting it and reconnecting it to your wifi. might go ahead and grab it OTA from there

I tried that and it didn't change anything. It still said the software was up to date. I cleared the system cache before that and it didn't do anything either.

AT&T firmware is hard to come by as it's not on Sam moblie. Most of the time you have to buy it from pay sites. I used gsm 2 file .com here:

Did you turn off wifi and check for an update? Sometimes that will trigger it, also try plugging the phone into a PC and use Samsung Smart Switch.

I'm actually trying to keep mine on pie it's been on It for 2 year and now it wants to update. Is there a way to flash or keep it on pie?

I would recommend going no higher than Android 10. Even with Android 10 you will lose some app functionality such as Karma Firewall's valuable logging feature, it will no longer work.
Pie is reasonably secure, I have 2 N10+'s, one running on 9, one on 10. The one running on 9 will remain there as it's useful for troubleshooting more so than the Q variant.
With Android 11 comes cpu cycle sucking scoped storage and forced encryption which is security overkill at the cost of performance and functionality. Scoped storage isn't active on Android 10 nor is forced encryption from what I've observed. If your device is running well, fulfilling its mission on Pie I wouldn't risk upgrading to Q. Benefits are minimal. I would recommend using Karma Firewall if you stay on Pie for better security. Karma Firewall may also be able to block the update app which give you another way to neuter this pest, but not as reliable as a package block.
To stay on Pie you simply disable the app shown below either by using Package Disabler (PM me for the link) or a adb edit to disable it. Those are the only ways to do so.
If the update does download clearing the system cache on the boot menu before it starts to install should delete it. I haven't tested this but was told this, it may or may not work. If it does install the Android 11 update there's no way to roll it back as it will update the bootloader as well locking you to only being able to flash/upgrade to 11 or higher, beware.
This is the OTA update app.

[Q] Note doesn't get updates

I know there are many threads asking the same question, and I've looked through many, but still haven't find an answer to my problems.
Just to clarify, my phone is not rooted, nor flashed, and I'm planning to leave it that way as long as possible, unless I really can't find any other solution for upgrading my phone
I've bought my phone in December, sim free, at mobile phone store in Serbia, and judging by the manuals language that I got in the box, its most likely imported from Hungary.
As soon as I've powered it on and connected to internet, I've got an update (OTA), which I installed as soon as I got home and plugged the phone to charger. Since then, I haven't got a single update, whenever I manually check I get "No updates!", and Kies says I have latest firmware, but im stuck on KK5 :S
It not big deal for now (even though I see that many people report improvements in newer firmwares, and I would also like that), but what about the ICS upgrade that will come in next month or two ?
Is there any way to force update, without flashing it manually or rooting the phone, or I'm stuck with this for good?
Is there anyone I can contact regarding this question who can give me any estimations ? Who is responsible for updates for sim free phones ?

If samsung have not still released new Firmware for your area, you won't get it.
Samsung never announce regarding release date for any ROM, Any region. You have to just wait till you get it.
Nobody can give you exact date of ICS release. wat we hearing is you can consider as Rumor.
You have always option to update your device manually. You can find all details in links of my signature.
May be CEO samsung Mr. H. B. Lee can answer, but i dont know how to contact
Thanks for your reply!
Well, I've read all your tutorials for now, and I will use them when I decide to start with rooting + flashing
What about that region changing ? There is no possibility to change region and get updates ?

Ya, you can change the region, but you'll wipe your phone.
Sorry to hijack the thread.
my 'about phone' is exactly the same as OPs, to the last detail. My handset was bought in the UK, and is unrooted as yet.
I'm on XEU csc and as far as I'm aware, I SHOULD have had an update by now? yet it still has not arrived. is this normal for a UK note XEU with KKA kernel/ KK5 baseband?
many thanks.

So its totally safe, and I will get updates for sure if I do that ?
My warranty wont be void ?
How do I do that, and what is the best region to choose ?

@turshija
i am also still on KK5. I am not sure what you expect from new update. Until official ICS update, you only can expect some small things, like safety patches. What i red on forums, latest update have only changes on keyboard (added numbers), and for me its not something special.
You will lose your warranty if you root your SGN, and i agree with you to not flash the phone during warranty period. Its not so cheap toy
On other hand, when i bought my alternative phone 2 years ago (HTC HD2), i installed Android after few days, because Windows made me felling like a grandfather. I am still playing with my HD2 after few hundreds times flashed ROMs, and now i am on ICS...and still enjoying my HD2 flashing and playing )), but comparing with SG Note, HD2 must be alternative phone
P.S. - We have absolutely the same version of SGN
@turshija and @tanzemyu, I too have identical version to you. Mine was bought from carphone warehouse in UK. At the last OTA upgrade (to 2.3.6 KKA) my phone wasn't rooted at the time, and I got it OTA - but a couple of weeks after the update was announced for carrier-free phones. I think it's therefore likely that CPW are for some reason holding up the OTA upgrade.
When 2.3.6 was out but I hadn't got it OTA, I looked into trying to change my CSC in order to get the OTA update but I found that CPW have put a non-changeable sales code on my phone "CPW" and I don't have the option to change the CSC.
As I'm now rooted I'm going to flash the update myself when I get around to it (as I think you lose root if you do an OTA??) - but IF you also bought from Carphone Warehouse, it's maybe worth you waiting anther week or too just in case an OTA upgrade does eventually arrive (I can't see why it wouldn't?)
Mine is identical. And it's from phones4u.

Everytime i tried software update even date change still no luck.
It just displayed as "Software is up to date"
Hope some one shares the Ota file so that unlocked people like me can manually update or the Odin files ?

But still no luck.
OTA still won't receive from ATT FOTA server.
I just checked my update at work and it's downloading now
Downloading on mine as well.
i'm using SmartSwitch on my PC to download it. Went to the Source from the Sammobile site and went to the option for downloading via PC. Installing now
Update: Update appears to provide all updates to 5.1.1 including Live Broadcast and other camera options we didn't get from 5.0.2. Icons are now typical Samsung 5.1.1 (cartoon-y). Adjustments from camera for brightness Up/Down are added. Samsung Pay added as well. Still looking around...
Downloading
Hope this doesn't bork the battery :/

Can anyone share the update?
And even a review?
Anyone having issues with the update failing? I have 5.56 gb available and enables all disabled apps. I tried twice via OTA, and no go...

The 5.1.1 should added Samsung Pay app to your phone already. Look through your app drawer
Mine failed the first time. I had 2GB free. I cleared the cache which freed up another 3-4gb. The update timer said to wait 15 hours so I set clock ahead 1 day. It took the update this time and I'm on 5.1.1 now.
just fyi for future reference, those who don't want to wait another 24 hours or so can always update via SmartSwitch on the computer. download smartswitch, plug in your S6 Active, it detects your software version and whether you are on AT&T or T-Mobile it should still download. I'm on T-Mobile and thought I was going to have to wait for it but that SmartSwitch worked really well. Also it reminds you that if you are rooted you might have issues downloading and accepting the update.
PS The Samsung Pay works well, obviously through a Pin though. It should be in your app tray at the very end. I disabled a ton of apps prior to update, seems like I have MORE AT&T bloat now then I did before.

Nexus 6 stuck in 7.0 but getting montly patches

My N6 is still waiting 7.1.1 OTA, surprisingly, security patches come on schedule, but almost three months after release, OTA is not coming. Yes, I know I can sideload it, but one of the reasons I decided not to root it was not losing the ability of OTA updates.... any hint?
Thanks.

You can flash the stock rom and you will receive OTA . Unlocking bootloader dosen't mean root.
You WILL receive OTA updates just do as follows
1. Unlock bootloader
2. Flash latest fastboot images
3. Lock bootloader - optional.
Make sure you don't keep TWRP recovery. It isn't that good for installing OTA packages via system update.
Please follow the guides if you don't know how to do them. Download the latest one named 7.1.1
Press thanks if i helped

@Pocket_rocket Just a warning though... Unlocking your bootloader will wipe your device.
Use the full OTA image instead. I believe there's no need for an unlocked bootloader then.
https://developers.google.com/android/ota
Edit: a word of caution... If you decide to sideload the OTA, it's not a bad idea to keep your bootloader unlocked. If anything goes wrong along the way, you can then fix it.
And about the update issue. Are you on AT&T? They haven't approved 7.1.1 yet...
Edit 2 (I just woke up, gimme a break ): If you use Android Pay or anything else dependent on SafetyNet, you can't keep your bootloader unlocked (without further tinkering) since that triggers SN.

Hi Didgeridoohan, Mine is now NBD92D (AT&T version and update thru OTA) but I don't see any AT&T logo on the back and my city(HK) does not have any AT&T service. Do you have any idea on this(Actually my Nexus 6 is from Australia).
In addition, if I keep sideload the OTA image N6F26U will cause any problem(except the Android Pay)? As you mention that Google does not approve any 7.1.1 AT&T version(Just tried to sideload N6F26U, it said can't install over a newer version).
Thanks so much in advance.

No. I'm on Vodafone (Spain) but I purchased this phone right on Amazon, so no pesky carrier should be acting as a man in the middle, I guess...
I mean, the phone runs decently well, but, given the fact that 7.1.1 will be the last update for this model, I want it. I wonder if is just a matter of patience or there is some other issue that is preventing my phone to get the OTA.
Thanks.
I have the same issue, m on NBD92D, which seems to ATT only, but there's no AT&T in India. I tried sideloading N6F26U, but it didn't work. Any idea how I can get 7.1, apart from waiting?

Software update on Tencent version with Global ROM

Hello everyone, I as the title says, I got the Tencent version (8/128GB) with the global ROM installed. I found that this is most likely a modified version (which is weird as my unit came sealed). Everything works just nice except for the OTA updates, as it just says there are not new updates available.
My question is, is there currently any relatively safe method to update the software to the latest version? For me is a bit important to be able to have software updates, but I don't really want to run the risk of bricking my device.
I read this post about Flashing WW ROM and Changing CN fingerprint to WW https://forum.xda-developers.com/rog-phone-2/how-to/flashing-ww-rom-changing-cn-fingerprint-t3969765 but I don't really know if this are the steps to follow as my device already has the WW ROM, and I'm not very familiar with the "fingerprint" topic.
Here are two screenshots of my device info:

Thanks for your answer. So basically changing the fingerprint will allow me to get automatic OTA updates? Or will I need to manually download and place them into the storage to get recognized, or will I have to flash them?

Tencent version with global ROM is not supported by Asus so no OTA updates. You can download raw ROM and follow guides to manually flash without data loss.
how to do that, without lose data manual flash?
Very simple, just download the official firmware from asus website and save in the root of internal storage. Thereafter, reboot and your phone will prompt you for software update.
Manual Update failed
Manual update is failing, I uploaded the screenshot of my phones firmware and the update I downloaded below. Thanks
Your fingerprint is still under CN:

If your fingerprint and firmware are both WW, but it still get the error when updating, try doing the last WW-16 update and then the WW-17. I think it is a too big jump for the system. there is 2 different android versions between (9 and android 10) as you know.

Android 11 for the Note 10 Lite

Finally!
Just installed android 11 on my note 10 lite via odin. Not gonna wait around for Samsung to seed it to my country.
Must admit, with android 11 I hardly see the need for root, or even a custom rom for that matter.
I read the other day that the Note 10 lite is part of the range of phones that will be getting 3 years of updates.
The big question... What are your thoughts on the android 11 update if you've got it? And are you going to update to it?

Is it safe to install another country update, which country Android 11 did you install?
Just started the download in India via OTA.
Still can not resize icon size
How about battery life? Is it better or worse for you after updating to android 11?
Worse !!! I have battery drain since android 11 update ! (on 2 different note 10 lite !)
See something told me not to take the Android 11 update just yet. I was gonna wait till the March update, but now I don't know. If it'll only make this phone worse I'll just keep the Note 10 Lite on 10 forever and just worry about getting a Note 20 Ultra (or Note 21 if Samsung isn't done with the series).
And now we're on the 4th iteration of Android 11 with the April update. Has anyone gotten it?
Yeah, would be nice if some people with the last android 11 update could give some feedback. I'm also allways on 10. How works access to the external memory-card? Like with 10 or are there problems getting access with solid-explorer, galerie, firefox (downloads), Titanium BA (backups) and so on?
Seems most people using a N10lite are not interested in modding/rooting it. Also in german forum android-hilfe there is nearly zero traffic in the 10lite group.
When i think back to the times of my Note 1, 3, 4 - there were posts over posts.
Looks like now instead of updates coming out at the end of the month they're now coming out in the middle. The "Beta 4" of Android 12 is coming out in August, not sure what that means for regular users, but I suspect it won't be ready for the Note 10 Lite till maybe January, February.
Meh, I would stay on Pie.
If already on 10... enter holding pattern.
My 10+ is still running on Pie. Apps like Karma Firewall are fully functional on it. Supports trusted overlay apps... which I use. No CPU cycles robbing scoped storage (for what?!).
The current load is over a year old now, still fast and very stable. Security has not been an issue.
Very little in the way of maintenance. Good battery life; 7-11%@hr SOT
Hello guys... would be posible to downgrade from 12 to 10? Thanks...

Likely not because of the bootloader version.

You are welcome.
The 5th digit from the rear is bootloader version.
In the build number you want to go to the bootloader version can be lower, the same but not higher.
In this case it's a 2 for this N10+ running on Pie.

Turns out I was right, Android 12 debuted in January for our device. It's on it's third update as of the time of this writing (March 4th).
So now I have to decide if I'll get the final Android 11 update, or the current Android 12 update. We have TWRP now, but I'm not sure if that'll help with firmware updates or not (I use to dirty flash firmware updates through TWRP when I had an S4 ages ago, not sure if that's possible here even with TWRP).
