Mapping the Jog Wheel to Volume

Is there anyway to permanently map the jog wheel to be a volume controller? Meaning that whenever you use it, it'll ignore what program or window you're currently in and just change the volume.
Good question... looking for this too.
how about mapping it to TASKS. then each time you jog you go to the next program in memory.
Wow, the jog wheel is one of the most important features for me on the device. How can you map it to do something else?
depends on your needs... ;-)
I don't ever use tha scroll wheel (even though many people do). I prefer to use tha stylus or 5 way directional key to navigate through my Kaiser....
Being able to adjust tha volume in my earpiece OR media player would be far more useful for me....

I got an idea:
The AEK verifies parameter of the buttons. MortScript can change the system volume (with "SetVolume" parameter) and read the current value of the volume from registry.
Current volume:
"\\HKCU\ControlPanel\Volume\Volume\"
AEK: http://ae.inc.ru/aekmap.php
AEK cab for Kaiser:http://ae.inc.ru/download/beta/AEKMap.CAB
MortScript: http://www.sto-helit.de/index.php?module=page&entry=ms_overview&action=view&menu=29
Somebody has to write only a script already...
OR USE IT:

I've obviously not been doing my homework on the Kaiser - I assumed that the wheel WAS mostly a volume control! Rather like the similar control on the Wizard, which I use all the time as there is no other tactile volume control on the device. On-screen stuff if fine if you're looking at the phone, but normally when I'm listening to MP3s (in PocketMusic) I've got the screen turned off.
Andre
it acts as a volume control in HTC Audio Manager or in call. And in WMP
When you map to push the wheel... it also changes the 'OK button' (Center of the D Pad)too.. So it's retarded... I ve tried remapping my wheel.. and every time i press it the volume bubble opens up thats' fine.. However, when I press the OK Button it also opens up the Volume Bubble.
To me, there's absolutely no point in using a jog wheel to scroll through a menu when there is a 4 way pad underneath the screen, not to mention the screen itself.
I can think of a couple of reasons for changing it to this way. When using TCPMP player in full screen mode, having a jog wheel that is hard mapped to volume would make it so you don't have to un-fullscreen to change the volume. When using the HTC music player tab, you don't have to enter the program itself or tap and wait for the volume bubble to pop up if you need to lower the volume on the fly.
It just seem redundant to have a jog wheel for something like scrolling when there are already two other ways to do it perfectly fine.
AEKMapScan.exe button test codes:
Jog Wheel Up : 0023 0083
Jog Wheel Down: 0028 0083
OK (upside): 0875
D-pad Up: 0026 0084
D-pad Down: 0028 0084
OK (right-down): 08C4
The AE Keyboard is able to treat the "similar functions buttons" for differing one.

Hello Xda!
This is my new app DeskBar Launcher. It creates a bar at the bottom of the screen of your Android device and can even replace your virtual buttons Home, Recent Apps and Back. Back button needs root for the moment but soon accessible with no root for all 4.1+ devices). If you have physical buttons or want to keep your stock ones, there's an autohide option much like bar you can find on Windows, Linux, etc.
Features :
-add shortcuts to your favorite apps on the bar or in the StartMenu
-can replace your virtual buttons (optional Menu button will need root. Back button too except if you have Android 4.1+)
-music controllers to pause/go to next/previous song in any apps
-volume controllers
-lock button to minimize accidental input of your bar and soft buttons
-(Experimental)(ROOT) Fullscreen button
-access all your apps in StartMenu as well as categories such as Pictures, Music, Settings, etc.
-launch search, lock screen or shutdown(ROOT) your device from the StartMenu
-Customize the appearance of your bar and menu.
Future features:
-Folders
There's a 10days-trial version available here : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stephapps.deskbar
And the license key at $2.49 https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stephapps.deskbarkey
Don't hesitate to post all your questions, suggestions, or if you encounter any problem!
Hello a big update (1.2) is coming, Here's the changelog:
Change log 1.2
-added optional menu button
-added search button and power button in startMenu( lock screen, (root) shutdown/reboot )
-added new customization tab in options for deskbar, startmenu, startButton
-added default icons for first time launch
-fixed bug with icons not sizing correctly sometimes in startMenu
-added personalized shortcuts in startMenu.
-bugfixes including the ones reported.
Can't wait to see what some of you will do with the new customization options (which might be buggy for the moment, this feature is kind of beta right now) , don't hesitate to post pictures if you have some cool results!
Wow nice work!

Nice
Thanks guys,
I'm working on a white theme but I have no idea for other themes :silly:.
Hey let's have a little contest. Submit your custom theme (no copyright stuff please), and if it's selected to be inserted into the app, you'll have an unlimited trial  (similar to a paid version, I have sadly no easy way to directly give away the paid version ) and your name in the app credits of course.
What's needed:
-background for Deskbar
-background for the StartMenu
-2 images for pressed and normal StartButton states.
You might need to use 9patch for the 2 first ones.
I absolutely love this app! This is exactly what I have been looking for! If I may recommend some features for in the future, I prefer to have half of the bar so I can access my notifications, but it's difficult to reach the navigation icons in the middle. Could there be an option to have them appear under the start menu above the lock screen button? I'm also curious if the applications on the bar could be changed from shortcuts to the most recent apps. That might not be possible, but it would be a very useful feature as there already is a quick shortcut option under the start menu. Love your work and I'm excited to see the direction of this app!

Hello, thanks for your nice feedback!
You're the second person to ask for the virtual buttons to be in the start menu, so I think I will try to add it soon.
For recent apps, it won't be easy to add it to the bar. In start menu it will be easier but might be less interesting.
When selecting "pictures" under the start button on my gt-p3113 and Galaxy S3 the gallery starts to open but then crashes with the message "unable to find item". This happens regardless of the default gallery I choose. Other than that id just like to say I really love this app. With ubuntu style sidebars getting a lot of attention lately I feel this needs equal if not more and I will recommend this to everyone. Keep up the great work! Also I think it would be nice if users could adjust the amount of time it takes for the bar to disappear and perhaps the option for the bar to stay until the user decides to swipe it away.
How is this uninstalled? When i deactivate from Google Play it does nothing, nor can i uninstall from apps manage?
Tried to remove this from device admin, but it doesn't appear there, so no way to uninstall
You enabled the administrative mode to allow the app to lock the screen on demand. You need to disable this lock screen feature first to be able to uninstall (as stated when you tick the option).
Beta question
is there a beta apk where some feature are in beta are tested?
if so, I would like to help test the beta version.
Very nice app, using it on my Samsung Galaxy player running Gingerbread 2.3, which has no virtual nav keys. I can't find any option in settings to disable the autohide function, so I can keep the bar on screen. Am I missing something here, or is it because the Galaxy Player doesn't actually have its own soft keys and a nav bar?
Would certainly like to purchase this app, if I can get the bar to stop autohiding.
EDIT: Well, I installed deskbar on my Touchpad and the option to disable autohide is there. So, it looks like for some reason, it doesn't show up on my Galaxy Player 4.0 running Gingerbread 2.3.
Thanks,
Mike T
Is development still going on?
I contacted the dev but didn't get any answers yet.
can't find it
The app is no longer in google play. does anyone know where I can download it?

[app] SuperSimpleSilent Mode

First post from my n8 .
So, let's talk about 'do not disturb',
No alram ring ? For real?
If you try to customize it, You loss the control about media volume... So it's not really 'do not disturb' anymore.
Silent mode? Uncover the media volume too.
There is no way for total silent mode with alarm on in Samsung Galaxy phone :/ WTF?
The only why to do it, is manually pull down any volume slider bar separately.
Not simply as my last AOSP N5X hammered...
Meet the SuperSimpleSilent Mode!
Set volume buttons to control media only
(attached app to force it for any forground app)
Install the app & now you have the control.
When media volume is lower to the minimum,
The phone will not make any sound or in call rings.
Youre alarm ring will still ear properly.
Media volume can be managed,
Without changing this 'silnet mode' settings,
until media volume will set to maximum.
Then all will notification alerts and in call sound volume ring will return to maximum.
That's how to manage volume for a super simple customed silent mode with clock alarm on.
What so you think ?
Download link (beta 1.1):
https://ufile.io/0ruhw
so where's the app?????
:\ cannot add download link cause my user have no "thanks"..
:crying:
mybe some day..
if you wouldike to try it, you can pm me
I don't get it... What is this app supposed to fix?
I don't have any issues with Alarms in silent mode.
mm..
maybe i wasn't clear enough..
there is no problem with "silent mode" and alarms.
the problem is the silent mode is not really silent mode,
as i know it after a tow year's of using with AOSP by my nexus device's...
in AOSP, when you pull down the ringvol bar (by pressing vol- until the very end),
vibrition mode is trun ON.
in this situation, if you make one more press of vol- button,
vibrition mode is truning OFF and silnet mode is trun ON with MediaVol OFF.
but, alarm clock ring is still ON...
with samsung rom's there is no way to enjoy this specific silnet mode variation with media off.
the only why to do it, is to trun 'do not disturb' mode ON.
but, 'do not disturb' mode (defult) have no alarm ring,
apparently... (i missed a day's work because of that )
and if you try to custom 'do not disturb' mode,
you will loss the control about the MediaVolume..
So the only way to do the trick of "AOSP silent mode" perfectly,
is by pulling down the ring vol & media vol manually, one by one.
"SuperSimpleSilent Mode" application is just fix this situation,
by changing the defult vol button to control media vol only
(absuloty, any time, any where... In contrast to the bulidin feature)
and make ring call OFF when found media vol is set to 0.
now, you got a totally silent mode by only a single (long) press on vol- button,
with alarm clock ON .
same as Google AOSP Human Factors behavior....
i will try to upload it for googleplay in the next days..
do you think you would like to try use it??
Do not disturb has an exception you can choose. I used with exception of the alarm. My alarm go off every morning on the days I set.
Sent from my SM-N950U using XDA Labs
It's doesn't make the trick :/
System volume and media vol is still not muted...
And this is what I solved...
