What version of stock rom do you use? - Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact Questions & Answers

Hello everyone, I got few questions.
As the title says, which version of stock rom do you use? Does it have any issues, are you rooted or not, green camera even with TA keys provisioned? Asking because, while I was following tutorial I couldn't pull out TA-unlocked.img, it said that file doesn't exist. I pulled entire /data/local/tmp folder and it showed 3 renoroot files and one "g+fffffffffffffff+fffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff" file which is 12kb in size. I have green camera in Oreo, so Oreo is no go for me. Looking for decent stock Pie version, because latest one has touchscreen issues, it becomes unusable for 5-6 seconds and then works and stops working. Also, someone mind directing me to which TWRP should I use for PIE to install Magisk and other things, would be really nice. Any help is wellcome.

The last pie stock "2.2.8 should not have touchscreen issues, or any other firmware. If you have issues, and you still have warranty, try to send it it. Sony, in my opinion, is notorious for their touchscreen issues. I experienced touchscreen issues on z3 compact and z5 compact EOL. I suspect the same will happen with xz1 compact, unfortunately. However I am on my 3rd original screen repair/replacement , so hopefully it will last a bit longer this time.

Phone is not under warranty, so that is out of question, also don't want to lose waterproofing. This touchscreen issue happens only on Pie, currently I can find only latest pie and latest LineageOS, who aswell have that issue, while no issue occurs on stock Oreo, besides green camera.

adb pull /data/local/tmp/TA-locked.img
Have you done a full wipe when installing the latest ROM? I've updated 3 times to Pie and come back to Oreo within hours due to certain issues so you may live to regret not following the guide properly.

I did as the guide said, and I have done it all on Oreo. I have pulled TA-Locked.img and later it said to pull TA-Unlocked.img and push TA-Locked.img. I tried pulling out entire tmp folder but it had only renoroot files and weirdly named one. Then I pushed back locked img and did rest as guide says. I have attest key provisioned but not SOMC Fido and SOMC Attest. Any idea if I can still fix it?

If you still have your TA-Locked.img then yes, the unlocked one is for "(for future comparisons)".
Start from scratch with the guide and redo the restoration of the locked TA img. If it doesn't work you're doing something wrong.

Yep, here as well. I have a unlocked M8s. Update is small, contains only system improvements....
*Update*
Doesn't update the security level, is still @ 1 oct. 2016. Not sure which improvements have been made...
I haven't received the update yet. Probably because it's Vodafone branded

I don't think so because I installed this rom(0PKVIM[email protected]60201_20.05_018_F_release_479349_combined_signed.zip). This update appeared after installation it.
I mean my phone is Vodafone branded. I'm on version 2.11.161.1.
I received the update today. However, yours appears to be much larger in size. Mine was just about 24MB.

I received an update few days ago, but 24Mb also. And i'm in France too.
There is an update notification. 2.21.401 (previously I'm at 2.20.401).
I have downloaded it. Does anyone know where it is stored now after download ( I selected install later)
The phone biggest problem it has been getting hot to touch as it is playing youtube videos. It then occasionally gives an overheat warning. i am hoping this will be fixed after update.

I don't know why mine was 638Mb. It is strange.
I found my update a fota inside the htc sense region of my /data/data directory
It was about 24-26 MB.
What does the update do? I tried unzipping but it cant be unzipped. I didn't try everything . I really nervous am made by ota updates.
I want to know everything it will be changing. I operate by "if it ain't broke don't fix it" adage... and it ain't really broke in any way.
I haven't tried everything yet. I probably wont install it since the phone is working well. What if it screws my phone so I can't boot twrp or something.

Not sure. I installed the update, didn't notice any change. Probably a good idea to install though...
Maybe if they were prepping our phone for a nougat upgrade I would. Anyone heard anything like that?

Don't get your hopes too high up, HTC didn't announce Nougat for the M8 nor the M8s....
As far as I know they only managed to release Nougat for the M9. Ten still doesn't have a legit Nougat in my family. We have a Ten and still no Nougat OTA.
I am corrected today. I just found out the ten does have the Nougat now.
I don't wait anything from HTC anymore. This phone will be last HTC for me.
To clarify, is this update for M8s or the M8? Because you are posting in M8s forum.

tried to downgrade to oreo from pie now i'm screwed

I don't see any topic relate to downgrade of razer phone 2 so i decided to try since my pixel 2 or galaxy s9 will not any problem as long as my bootloader is unlocked
but it woudn't work on razer phone 2. i downloaded the oreo factory image from the official website but tried the flash-all now my phone is currupted. since there is no pie factory image available, i think my phone can't recover. I'm thinking if flashing gsi would work?
I lowered the version from 9.0 to 8.1, there were no problems...
You probably did not completely unlock the bootloader. It is also necessary to unlock "Critical Partitions", and after that flash the firmware image 8.1
fastboot flashing unlock_critical

LOL, why would you go from a phone you can root & customize, to one you can't do ANYTHING to (that (cr)Apple doesn't allow you to do!)?! That's the ENTIRE reason I've never bought an iPhone, and have always bought Android, so I can root and customize (I realize there's Android phones you can't root, but I'll only buy ones that CAN be rooted).

Use the volume and power buttons to navigate the little menu and reboot your phone into the bootloader while the phone is plugged into your PC. For some reason the flash-all script doesn't like to run as administrator, so try running it just by double clicking. Also, cmd doesn't like pulling files buried in folders, so put the folder with the script and images in the base of your C drive just to be safe. Windows has this issue with the number of characters in a file's path and refuses to find files if the number of chars in it's path and name are too high.
Any benefits using oreo over pie for the razer phone 2 though? Like is it faster or something? I really don't feel the rp2 needs rooting or a custom rom it's plenty fast enough in my opinion

A better approach if you can
You won't get much joy staying on Lollipop, and Kingoroot is not my favorite approach to rooting. See if you can un-do all of that and use the Xperia Companion app to update the phone to Marshmallow. Once you have that, you can unlock the bootloader, flash TWRP in as the recovery if you want to try the LOS Pie build for it, or root it with something more credible, such as SU or Magisk. Yeah, very time consuming, but you will be much happier in the long run for the effort. Still a great little phone if you put some decent software on it. You could also go through the tedium of disabling all the apps in the stock ROM that get in your way, and the Z3C comes with a warehouse full of them, and using a different launcher - Evie is very nice for this purpose - to at least give you something you don't mind looking at. If only the stock ROM supported adopted storage, but you can't have everything .......
Good Luck

When I ran the companion app on a Win 7 machine it told me the same thing. When I ran the companion app on a Win 10 machine, it updated Android (which took an ETERNITY to download but who cares once it is done). SONY has apparently tweaked the app to not do much on anything less than Win 10.
Let me know if that helps.
If you wanted to flash the latest version of stock ROM, get http://www.flashtool.net/index.php .
Included is Xperifirm, which will allow you to choose, download, and package to FTF the latest official ROM. From there, you can use the FTF to flash your phone.
Before you do this, you may want to read up on the various rooting methods and decide which method is best for you. I say this because I started off with Android 4.4 first, installed dual recovery, and then flashed to a pre-rooted Android 5.1 (tried 6.0 and didn't like it) through recovery.

Moto G9 Play bricked by booting wrong twrp?

Hello forum, if someone could help me finding out, whether I bricked my device doing a pat step, or if it's still possible to recover it, I'd be most glad!
After unlocking the bootloader, it might be, I did a wrong step restarting too soon or something, or trying to boot into a wrong twrp-version. Actually I don't remember each step, as this happened a few months ago...
Thank you for now,
draftflash
if you still can, boot into fastboot and on your pc type
fastboot -w reboot.
if it doesn't work then consider using this firmware updater https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/rom-stock-rom-for-xt2083-reteu.4214883/

Hi rogue.bot, don't remember, maybe an instruction to install /e/ for Moto G7. Anyway, new state is that I recovered the STOCK and now 'd like to install the proper twrp, which should be available now, as I saw.

ouh, don't think so. I choose it for being said to be a bit lighter. But I am thinking of changing back to LineageOS for /e/ is a bit too close to conventional ROMs, regarding the user surface. But actually I don't know the newer versions of LineageOS.

Advice in this case.
Don't root if you are in a hurry
Bootloader unlock is at least 7 days waiting
Backup before and restore after format is again a couple of hours
Brick is a couple of weeks or papermate

I don't have any data and can format at any time,
I hope to achieve ROOT as soon as possible, Maybe 7 days can also wait or over 7 days,
I was wondering if there is an exact way?
Of course, I also hope that it will not become a brick,
Why should I root?
Because I'm very disgusted with the monitoring and security software that comes with the mobile phone system, I don't need these software and management, I am use to assured of Google's management, and don't need mobile phone security App,

There is a lot of information how to unlock and root your Xiaomi device.
So I won't give you a detailed guide.
- Start with bootloader unlock
- While waiting 7 days, study how to go further and download everything you need.
- Like ADB, Twrp or Orangefox, Magisk, Custom rom and optional Gapps
...................... Studying before next actions is necessary to avoid a brick ..........................................
- After 7 days, unlock
- Flash with fastboot, recovery (Twrp or Orangefox)
- Reboot to recovery
- Follow flash and format instructions of desired Rom
- Flash Magisk for root
PS
Please don't shout anymore for root in a hurry
