root note 10 lite by magisk fail - Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Lite Guides, News, & Discus

Unfortunately magisk 20.3 can't work on it,
Because there are 2 vbmeta files (vbmeta.img, vbmeta_samsung.img) like is in A51 look here for more info.
The result of rooting is after flashing the tar we get download mode with the message "(AVB Fail), vbmeta: error verifying vbmeta image: OK_NOT_SIGNED" like in this issue

I success rooting on mine ! seem ok for me !
Attention : with this methode, phone is totally reset
Attention 2 : have a full samsung ROM from sammobile, to reflash it with odin in case of problem !
What I do :
_ copy/extract a boot.img from a sammobile firmware (boot.img.lz4 is in AP_xxx)
_ patch this file with magisk manager -> rename to boot.img and tar to boot.img.tar
_ I unlock bootloader (when phone is shutdown, press vol+ + vol-, then plug power cable)
_ wait long time for the phone factory reset
_ now you will have a message at each boot time (ignore it, press power button) and knox is 1 !!!!!
_ boot to download mode and flash boot.img.tar with odin
_ after reboot (boot error..), I have to factory reset again in recovery mode !
_ after long time, in android, reinstall magisk manager -> all fine, root is now working !
Now I try to add Viper4Android with no success for now....

Someone else succeed in rooting ? (with my method/other ?)

Hello, did you manage to run Viper4FX? I really look forward to information about this and so far I'm in no hurry with root. I apologize for possible errors and inaccuracy, I write through goggle translate. Thanks.

no sucess with viper4android, don't find any method that work !! for the moment root ok, v4a fail !

Hello, what can you say about this? it can be fixed?

Sorry, I don't remember this ! But I don't think I have this msg ! On the other hand, I have the new official ROM (ATA1) not ASLJ.

if you flashed a custom recovery you got this message,
because the vbmeta blocks only custom recovery but not custom boot.
but if you take only boot.img like @banzaip instructions the message should never appear.

OK, I understand now ! I've not flash any recovery !!! There's no custom recovery for the moment !!! You have to use odin from PC with download mode on phone !

Im also trying

I've tried rooting my Note 10 lite on the most recent firmware (PHN) using your method. While I did manage to root my Note, it does not pass SafetyNet. Was there anything you did to get it to pass?
Edit: I just figured out my phone refuses to pass SafetyNet even on the stock firmware while the bootloader is unlocked.

so relock the boot loader ! (same method as unlock !)

Hmm. Re-locking my bootloader on my old S8 while rooted resulted in a bootloop, which makes sense: when the bootloader is locked, it will only boot valid boot images, so not boot images that are patched by Magisk. I currently have the time nor the desire to wipe my phone and set everything up again, so could you please confirm for me if re-locking the bootloader of a rooted Note 10 Lite won't cause a bootloop? If it's safe, I'll try it ASAP, I can't stand not having V4A working

I relock my bootloader, but before I flashed lastest official ROM WITHOUT REROOTING (not necessary for now, v4a doesn't work, and backup work OK with helium throught computeur !)

Yes, that worked for me, too, but I'm still trying to get my Note 10 Lite rooted, with passing SafetyNet. You posted an image that shows you had Magisk installed succesfully and had SafetyNet passing. Did you re-lock your bootloader while still rooted to get that result? I still believe doing so would cause a bootloop. Do you have any idea why SafetyNet, specifically the CTS Profile, passed on your device, yet didn't on mine? Is there anything you specifically did to get it working, or did it work out of the box?
Also, I've had some trouble getting V4A to work on Samsung devices in the past (Note 3, S8) and I know of a few common problems that might be causing V4A not to work, so I might manage to find a way to get it working. For example, on the S8 a specific system file regarding audio drivers needed to be edited, and on both devices SoundAlive, the default equalizer from Samsung, could interfere with V4A.

image post was when I've rooted the gn 10 lite, with old ROM. And, bootloader was UNlock, I post magisk screenshot, I don't test specially safetynet, only root !
One thing I do, it's rename magisk to another name to "hide this app" ! It's a command in magisk, don't remember exactly how !

Alright, then I guess I'll just have to wait for Magisk or TWRP to get updated. Renaming the Magisk Manager app can be done under settings, and is not required to pass SafetyNet, but some apps will check if you are rooted by checking if Magisk Manager is installed, which can be prevented that way.

Success... using Magisk 20.3

After so many failure until my phone is dead literally (can't on when pressing power). But when I go to the service center, I just give to them and the tech guy asking what happen? I said it will not power on. then he says, come back later and I said ok. when I came back he gave it to me and the my phone is working. For the second time Im following the instruction of @banzaip (thanks 2 u ) and it works.

success

the solution works
Well we can say that this solution works great,
I also tried it on S20+ and it works very well,
The reason is because vbmeta signature is just about the recovery,
The boot of these devices includes a ramdisk and so we can do it through the boot'
As opposed to the A51 device where there is no ramdisk in the boot and there is a signature on the recovery so there is still no way to root it.

[GUIDE] Marshmallow Root Guide for ZE500KL

ATTENTION!
You MUST read all the guide BEFORE doing it, if you do it without reading all of it first you may ends up bricking your phone!
Prerequisites:
Asus ZE500KL (may work on ZE500KG, but haven't tested, do it on your own risk) on Marshmallow, NOT LOLLIPOP!
Also, it must have fully booted AT LEAST one time, otherwise, you'll soft-brick it.
If your phone is not on Marshmallow, you can use THIS guide insteadDownload and put the unlocker zip file and the SuperSu zip file in the phone
How To:
1 - Install adb and fastboot driver (follow THIS guide)
Now you can connect the phone to your computer2 - Reboot in fastboot mode with one of the following method:
a -Volume Up while booting upb -With adb, after enabling USB debugging in developer settings, using:
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
Now that you are in bootloader, you have to boot in TWRP,
download THIS recovery (is the twrp one) and boot in to it, using this command:
IMPORTANT: DON'T FLASH IT OR YOU WILL GET BOOTLOOP!!!
Code:
fastboot boot TWRP-x-x-x-x.img
(Obviusly the recovery name must be the one you downloaded)
IMPORTANT: DON'T FLASH IT OR YOU WILL GET BOOTLOOP!!!
It should automaticaly enter in recovery.
Now you MUST flash FIRST ZE500KL_BootloaderUnlock.zip, otherwise you'll brick your phone
Btw, the recovery will mount your phone's memory, so you can put now the files in the phone, if you forgot to do it before
AFTER you installed the unlocker zip, you can install the SuperSu zip
When the install is complete, clear the cache and reboot your phone, now you can enjoy your root!

So.. I'm thinking of buying a ZE500KL and I've been doing some reading on this phone on the forums.. did it really just get unlocked like yesterday? does that mean custom roms from now on?

I was seriously about to try this latest update just to try & figure out RCS not working on CRF1 & randomly came across this! THANKS! (BTW if you know anything about RCS on s7 or services/apks needed for functionality on CRF1 please pm me!)
On another note, let's have a contest to see who can hold on to the S7 the longest as their primary phone

Thanks for the effort and providing root for T-Mobile. Perhaps I am an unlucky person. By the time I discovered this thread, my phone was already updated to G930TUVS8CRJ1 version. update: gonna have to switch back to u firmware because even when i unroot the phone, certain games wont work or connect to server. i cant install magisk to bypass safetynet or hide magisk after installing so root isnt even seeming worth it on this device. might as well stick to the u firmware and disable the apps I dont need and disable ota update so that i dont get the v8 bootloader update. It was fun while it lasted.

Need Help with Magisk

Hello Friends!
Straight up: I am somewhat tech-savvy but my skill level is quite low with android stuff -- I have spent a lot of time reading and trying to figure it all out. I realize I just need help to find the best path forward.
Basically, I rooted my Samsung A50 using the Odin with magisk_patched.tar. I did not install TWRP or CWM on the phone.
It worked amazingly!
...at first. Then I deleted some modules that I tried to check out.....
===> then Magisk Manager displayed "Magisk in not installed" and it seemed like root access was no longer available.
===> Clicked install
===> Would you like to Install Magisk 19.3?
===> Clicked Install ===> Given choice to 'Download Zip Only' or 'Select and Patch a File' -- I tried selecting and patching 'magisk_patched.tar' which seemed to work but now I believe the phone is in a bootloop (Samsung logo is displaying without getting anywhere)
I have everything on the phone backed up. I have 'magisk_patched.tar' on my PC.
I wanted to wipe the phone and re-do the whole process.
I then ===> reflashed 'magisk_patched.tar' file using odin in download mode.
It seemed to work at first -- the stock ROM was asking for language, privacy agreements, etc.
But it reboots within 30 seconds of android starting - I can't get past the privacy agreements.
It was stuck in a loop.
Then I tried to ===> flash TWRP using Odin (instructions here: https://www.******.com/root-samsung-galaxy-a50-with-magisk/)
Now I cannot access recovery.
I feel really F-ed.
Any suggestions? Any recommendations for tutorials?
I *really* appreciate any help!
And I apologize for being pretty inept at this stuff
..

===> Clicked install

Try to flash Stock ROM via ODIN (full ROM, not only bootloader!).
Get into the system passing start up wizards etc.
Then you can flash patched bootloader once again.
Note: remember to flash corresponding version of bootloader with ROM. Do not flash elder version of bootloader on newer version of ROM.
It will work for you.

thank you!
this worked.
Should I install TWRP? I am currently using the Magisk patched rom + Odin method.
Can I use TWRP Manager or something like that now that I have root access to install TWRP on the Samsung A50?
Thank you for your help!!!

It depends on why do you need TWRP.
What else except root do you need? Full man droid backup? Or something else...?

[Updated/All Versions & Models!] Root OnePlus 7T Pro

How to root any version of the OnePlus 7T Pro!
1. Make sure your bootloader is unlocked!
2. Once you're unlocked enter the following ADB commands to extract your current boot image (Your phone needs to be on)
adb shell dd if=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/boot_a of=/boot_a.img
adb pull /boot_a.img pathinyourpc
Click to collapse
3. Download & install Magisk Manager on your phone
4. Put the boot_a.img file on your phone
5. Open the magisk manager app and click the "Advanced Settings" button, then enable "Prserve AVB 2.0/dm-verity & Preserve force encryption", then select the top "Install" button and select "Patch to boot image" and select the boot_a.img
6. Now magisk will create a magisk patched boot image file, put that on your computer
7. Now enter the following ADB command
adb reboot fastboot
fastboot --set-active=a
fastboot boot pathtomagiskpatched.img
Click to collapse
8. Now you'll boot into the system, reopen the magisk app and click the top install button again and select "Direct install", then reboot
Congratulations you've now successfully rooted your phone!
EDIT: This guide is wrong.
Check these references for the proper guide to root. OP refuses to acknowledge it's wrong even when I pointed it out to him with proof.

Just a question, have you tried Viper4Android (if your use it)?: Use 2.7.1.6 stable version.
hi,
tryed it out.. When i boot your patched image.. there is no install button in magisk. It tolds me that i am already on the newest version.
Second.. WLAN isnt working any more. Cant enable wlan. When i reboot with stock img. everything is fine.

Yes it says its installed thats correct but you need to install it again in the magisk app so it stays after restarting the phone. I don't know about WLAN tho
Can you turn on Wifi ?
When i turn it on. It is disabled at the end.
There are similar problems in the 7t forums. Seems a problem with the used magisk version for the boot image.. did you use the canary magisk files ?
and yes.. I know why i need to install. But the linked version of magisk says only.. uninstall..
Edit: i have a european version of the oneplus 7t pro .. and can you provide the original boot image.
I can confirm I have successfully rooted using this method, and WIFI is working fine. Thank you very much, OP and everyone involved, no wits time to set up my device
Ah! Will do this immediately when I get home.
I tried magisk and now it loops to fastboot, does anyone know to recover from this? Does the msm tool for OP7T Pro?
edit: flashed the original boot img and boots fine, whever i try to boot magisk patched it bootlops because faulty drivers
to clear up, i tried installing viper4android driver directly from the app, so i guess theres residue left

did you install modules ? try booting the patched boot image from here and then, uninstall the modules again...
Works like a charm!
Minor thing you may want to clarify (I know you know, but to prevent confusion for readers), you give a warning that this will wipe all data, but that is not exactly true. Unlocking the bootloader wipes all data, but that step is not part of your instructions. Just following your steps on an already unlocked phone does not wipe the phone.
Thanks to everyone who made this possible so soon!

I have a warning above the instructions already, I think you might have missed it

I also bootlooped as well, I tried to install liveboot and i guess that didnt work lol
anyways, I fixed my bootloop by booting the unpatched boot img and then doing a factory reset in the settings, after that you can just boot to the magisk boot img again!

I'm not sure where the misunderstanding is coming from, I know that you give that warning. What I mean is that strictly speaking following your steps does not wipe the phone, unlocking the bootloader wipes the phone. But you don't have that step in your instructions. See what I mean? .
When I read your steps, I was like "wipes my phone how?" Maybe booting your image would wipe my phone or something? I'm glad it didn't .
I just thought for clarity's sake it would be good to make that clear in the steps that's all!

Oh sorry, yeah I rewrote it to make it clearer. Unlocking the bootloader will wipe your data

Damn, you are my hero. Did a factory reset and followed the OP again, now everything is fine and I'm rooted. Thank you again.
edit: also, for safety precaution, disable automatic updates in Developer options

Great, I'll check back in on this tomorrow and see how everyone is getting on before I try. Had a skim through here this morning before mine arrived and didn't see anything so set up as is.

Root permissions get disabled on their own. No Ramdisk | Raphaelin IN MIUI 12.5.1

First post here at XDA out of absolute necessity.
Unlocked bootloader of a 230G device without backup.
Day 3 of me trying to get root access to stay.
Extracted a recovery.img file from a "fastboot" version of the same ROM (MIUI 12.5.1).
Patched the recovery.img file with magisk v23.0 because NO RAMDISK (patching boot.img not allowed?)
fastboot flash recovery magisk_patched.img after transferring the new file to platform-tools.
Rebooted device to check root status as verified.
~Some random time later, some apps start complaining that they won't function without root priveleges.
1. Root checker: Sorry root access has not been properly installed.
2. Servicely/Rboard/Substratum either won't launch or refuse further access
3. Titanium Backup says root status as OK!
4. System utilities: Root found but access not granted & busybox as not found.
5. Viper4Android magically deletes my presets & removes half of its options.
I'm precisely 72 hours into the root world & I'm about to just let it be.
Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated, perhaps with some celo/weyu in the near future.
Thank you.
To be honest, I'm still not able to get What is it you are trying to do. Because Rooting on a Raphael is not that complicated as you mentioned. Just simply/normally flash the Custom recovery ( OF is suggested ) then boot into it and flash Magisk. I don't get it why you did so many steps ( and also don't understand what those steps for @@ )

Flashing Magisk v23.0 as a zip through OrangeFox gave me bootloops for days.
MiFlash to the rescue though. Do you think I should try different versions of Magisk?

Also, sir. would it be possible for you to mention if there is anything to wipe. before or after flashing OF/Magisk.
thanks very much.

Normally, flashing Magisk always should be done LAST. Means after flashing the ROM, Gapps, and else, then magisk latest. And normally, I flash magisk v23 ( latest stable build ) apk file with on all ROMs without any issues.
