Is it possible to install newer GCams (5.1<)on rooted p30 pro? - Huawei P30 Pro Questions & Answers

Hello guys.
Me and my friend bought two huawei phones, nova 5t and p30 pro, and then we realized we can't use gcam on neither of the phones because huawei limited the camera2api and worse, huawei will not give you unlock code for bootloader and...
So the question is, if we can get the code, then somehow root the device and enable camera2api, is there a way to install newer versions of GCam with HDR+ and nightsight? Or because of the kirin processor, it is pointless?
We have both android 10 with emui 10
Thanks.

Not sure about if camera2api can be enabled by achieving root or by using a custom kernel, I will let devs answer on this one.
I found that the new Google camera Go works perfectly on my P30 EMUI 10 all is good and portrait works, except no HDR, no video recording. However I'm not sure if quality is better than stock app

Not working perfectly then.
So why bother?

Do you mean enabling cam2api is impossible for this specific phones? Because there is a lot of guides are out there for doing this task on other phones. And even there is some dedicated apps for checking and enabling after root.

Im so disappointed buying this phone really,
Is it so hard really? no progress att all since huawei not provide the codes?

Why disappointed, Huawei camera app it's one of the best apps out there ,a lot of features nice quality,AI works great and can recognize a lot of scenarios i have one year with my P30 pro and im very happy and Huawei night mode it's one of the best out there

Huawei will not provide you with any code since they will not unlock the bootloader and they do it for a good reason ,for more security Everything it's encrypted by default and your personal data and things are safe.

Exactly... There's one channel on YouTube and he literally have every possible way to make best pic on p30pro in each mode. He making moon pics with "AI" off. You can make really good photos in Pro mode so please, stop complaining. Overhauled Samsung s20 Ultra supposed to have 5z optical zoom but have like 3.7x and came out one year later. Huawei have worse stabilisation because on s20u videos with stabilisation looks really amazing. You can run and this thing working so well that it's like you riding skateboard. Yes, it have 8k but its 24fps and grainy. You should be happy with your phone.

would you mind sharing the channel?
Thanks!

Just done the "in good light" comparison of camera in P9 Lite vs P8 Lite and... there is no detail in P9 Lite
Everything looks plastic and flat, little details are gone due to strong and agressive demosaic alghoritm in P9 Lite jpeg engine.
P8 Lite is far far better in image quality
Here is the comparison, please view it in 100% and just look for structure in this paving

The same same happens with grass or leaves or forests in landscape and every minor detail in pictures done with P9 Lite

I didn't test p9 lite camera in good light conditions, but from my opinion, it sucks....
In every photo is a terrible lack of detail and a good amount of noise.
I've tested "pro mode" on 2 software version b104 and b131 which I've received earlier today.
Change log don't provide any information about camera improvements.
About raw... Definitely isn't an option for this device.

Honestly, I doubt it. There were no users that complained to Huawei directly, so I think it won't be resolved.
I remember for one of my previous devices, Xperia M2, Lollipop update messed up the camera quality, so I, and a number of other users, complained to Sony, and they rolled out a specific update that solved the issue.
Personally, if you "take care" of how you shoot photos, results can be amazing.

hello and thank you for answers, i have the phone for two weeks and i tried all settings, the the i have the same opinion like OP i had alot of phones, perosnaly i like this one, but the camera just killed me, my previous phones were lenovo k4, huawei p8lite, lg d820, sony z2 and i stoped on p9 lite, the p9 lite have the worst camera actually the p9 lite have more similar camera to xperia z2, im going to complain now on huawei website, i hope someone follow me so they can do something, its amazing phone but the camera just remove the stars from the phone.

fisrt of all, hello!
Second, its rude to talk like this, did you see for what OP is complaining, THIS IS THE PROBLEM, thats why i and other people discuss this, the camera is not good, i had p8 lite and like in the photo the camera of p8 lite is better and with strong detail and contrast, not to mention rich colors, like you see is not only me, if you have something useful to say let me read it, otherwise your opinion dont matter, and again look at the OP photos to see diffrence.
Hi, everyone.
I agree, for me, oficial camera overprocess and get plastic efect on low ligth conditions. I try many camera apps ( proshot, footej camera, snap camera, htc10 camera , google camera, freedcam) and all they get TOO MUCH noise in all conditions. In official camera, obviously the overprocess is for erase the noise , but you get plastic efect, and other apps, get more detailed images but very noisy in all conditions even day light.
Its my experience, hope some app could process and disapear noise with out plastic efect.
Sorry for my english

hello, you cant make better photos with apps, the problem is not the camera is the software wich stop the full potential of the camera, i send a complain to huawei about the problem, they send me mail to make hard reset and try pro mode, i tell them i tried everything the the result is the same, i chated with support of my coutry, they tell me that they will send that to huawei devs, suggest every one who own p9 lite to send a compalin, in other thread of xda are talking for the new andoird N but there is not fix for the camera.
The camera is good...other cams are just better...

Is there any GCam port for the P20 Pro?

I know that if you mess around with pro mode it can take outstanding photos but I want to improve the point and shoot skills of the P20 Pro, especially the front facing camera.
Also interested. I used it on my s8 and it was my go to camera.
I've tried handful of ported GCam-s, even the one that somehow worked on P10, but none of them work on P20

Ok, I did some quick&dirty compaction, and this GCam port is not that bad at all. It has much more natural color rendering, and I would say that details at on pair with P20 pro cam in Pro mode on 10MP. Of course P20 Cam has much more tricks in its sleeve, like other modes etc. It would be best if you would try it yourself and see if it suits you

Guessing we won't see a port with working HDR+ at least until/unless full or level 3 Camera2 API is supported.
Highly recommend checking out the HedgeCam 2 app in the Play Store (it's an Open Camera fork); processing is a bit slow but it takes really nice full 40mp hdr photos and gives a ton of control over exposure, sharpness and dynamic range (slower capture but much wider range -- almost night mode good -- with the Camera2 API setting off).

Thanks this one works really great! Where did you get it from? The only thing that does not works perfectly ist Video, it looks kinda stretched bc of the 18:9 Display but the Videos you take are 16:9 and not streched. Its just the Video 'preview' that does not work 100% perfect but overall a great port!

Just got the phone today and I'm using this GCAM port, for the S10 https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=1395089523397913303 it seems to work fine, haven't done any test, just a quick pic and it does seem better quality over the stock Samsung.
I've been using it for about 4 hours and the camera does not fully turn every time, most times it does, but I've had that happen a few times already, where it almost flips all the way to selfie mode, but stops at about 80% of the flip. Interested to know if this is common, I've seen a Youtuber with this issue as well, so just wondering if it's "normal" or not.

All simply because gcam is ridiculous compared to stock. Much more noise, smoothing of the photo, overesposition, mediocre quality in night photo ... The tests were done with GCAM 5 which is in a discussion on the forum...
In my opinion the reduction of raw noise is incompatible with gcam. The photos taken with gcam have almost the same quality as with open camera.

gcam is not necessarily better it may change for low-end smartphones but in high-end smartphones the results were worse with gcam than the Stock camera. gcam will work like any open camera and will never have the code and therefore the optimizations related to the camera. on the screen of the smartphones it looks good but on a larger screen we directly see the loss of quality with gcam

Maybe because these ports are done via the good will and graciousness of the developers, who often do this for free, on their own time? Don't be immature about this. It takes work, and just because your particular phone isn't supported doesn't mean that people aren't trying to get it to work.

I haven't asked it particularly for my mobile. The thing is i haven't asked at all for my mobile. I just said there are no GCAM mods at all for at least a single Sony flagship. I never demanded i am saying that just request the developers!
Can't force any developer to support an specific device. Like some people already mention, there isn't really an improvement using gcam over the stock camera (maybe there is certain circumstances that get better results, but nothing really special). Xperia 1 camera already is great. I haven't tested much the gcam version already available, will try today some night scenes

Wow. Ok thanks for the info. Everyone says mobiles need API 2 support and i agree but i feel every Sony flagship supports that API 2 thing. I am saying this because i used a GCAM mod for my old Xperia X dual stock OS that actually worked. But the MOD doesn't had the Night Sight feature as it's an old version. i luckily somewhere found that MOD. It's a long time ago and there after i tried many GCAM versions and none of them worked. They just not opened even for a second.

Older gcam versions work. Even on XZP stock, gcam 4(?) was working. For the Xperia 1/5 we have Gcam 5 working. Either wait, donate to the dev to help support them, or create your own port.

Gcam video stabilization question

Hello. This is my first thread in XDA sooo... greetings! I'd just like to ask a quick question...
The video stabilization on my installed Gcam doesn't seem to work even though it is enabled in the settings. I tried different configuartions (1080p 60/30 fps, 4k 30/60fps) but still with no signs of stabilization.
The apk I installed is Gcam 7.2.010 Ver. 2.3 by urnyx05.
I was just wondering if there are other apks (for Mi 9T Pro) with working video stabilization or do i need to use Magisk or TWRP to make this work... or this feature doesn't work yet on Gcam ports just like the slowmotion feature.
I tried searching about this but with no luck (at least on Mi 9T Pro forums). That's why I made this thread as a last resort
Answers and suggestions are deeply appreciated!
Welcome to xda mate. I was looking for the same gcam and finally found one. Actually it doesn't work great in 60fps but still better at stabilization. It is the onfire version and here the link: https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/dev-onfire/

Thank you for the suggestion, but this port still doesn't seem to work on my phone, but its OK!
I actually found an apk that works for me and its still by urnyx. Apparently he has an updated version which fixes the EIS problem. It's this one: GCam_7.3.018_Urnyx05-v1.5.apk (I cant post links because I'm still a newbie, just search it). So EIS does work, it just depends on the port (and phone? lol), I think. Well that answers my question I guess
