Microsoft Teams users ... - Huawei P40 Pro Guides, News, & Discussion

Hello,
I found this uservoice at microsoft for teams.
https://microsoftteams.uservoice.co...mobile-app-work-on-latest-huawei-devices-with
If you use Teams don't forget to vote
Hope MS do something ...

What is annoying is that there is a non GMS version in the Chinese Huawei app store for the Chinese market (Google it), so why not put this in the non Chinese app store....

MS Teams Not receiving Calls
I having a bit weird problem. I installed MS Teams on Huawei P40 Pro, however, when receing calls, I don't get any rings. I onoy get a missed call notification. I tried re-installing, cearing all caches, enabling all types of notifications, removing anything related to battery optimization but still its not working. Any help?

Is there anyway to get onto the Chinese app store to get it?

as you know already .. pretty much all notifications are screwed-up .. a 'ring' is just like a notification.

i've found this:
https://docs.microsoft.com/de-de/microsoftteams/get-teams-android-in-china
and at this link it downloads an apk directly... https://aka.ms/teams_baidu_direct_dl as the huawei link does redirect to appgallery, thats again telling app not available in our region... but the apk it does work:
its an older version of the app... but still after installingand configure it says that gms is needed so i'm not sure if there is a really a non-gms version of teams

I have a EVA-AL00 arriving tomorrow...what do I need to know?

Ok, so I bought a P9 ( EVA-AL00 ) since I've always been a fan of Leica products, and I'm a hobbyist photographer. First off, I currently use an iPhone 5s for the last 2 months, and before that was using a OnePlus One, and before that an iPhone 5c and Blackberry Passport, so I've had a variety ogf phones over the last 2 years. I'm not into hacking, or unlocking or locking bootloaders and that type of thing, which is why I generally like Apple products, as they just seem to work out of the box. I'm leaving my 5s because the screen is too small, and I like what the P9 offers for the money, at a cheaper price point than an iPhone 6s. And the Leica optics.
So, having said that, what do I need to know once I get the phone tomorrow? Any critical or important tips or tricks? Again, I'm not into anything complicated when it comes to phones like rooting, etc... I'm in Canada and my Carrier is Bell. My ANdroid experience has been with the OnePlus One I used for a while, and I was generally pleased with it.
Thanks
Ok, so phone arrived. I made a mistake. It's a EVA-DL00.
It's running EVA-DL00C17B163, and I'm currently updating to 168. This is a CHinese version of the phone, from my understanding. I'm using it in English, but some things are still in Chinese. Is there any way to to flash with other software to make it all English?

Welcome to the club
I recently bought the EVA-L10 (Chinese Dual-Sim, "premium" version, 4G/64G) while in Shanghai, and I have the same "problem" as you.
Basically since Google is not available in China, the phones sold in China don't come with Google Android framework, they use a "non-google Android", based of the official Android.
So, to your question, will it be possible to flash another firmware over your phones firmware? I say Yes, however at the same time I'm lying, because I'm also looking for this firmware for my phone, but if someone posts a EVA-L29 Firmware somewhere on the Interweb, I'm most certain this firmware will work on my phone and should also work on yours (might require bootloader unlock and root, but so what..).
But the phone is, chinese apps or not, awesome
/S
You can install Google stuff. Just download the Google Play store from the Huawei store, and then have at 'er installing all the normal Google Play apps that you want. That's what I'm currently doing. I just want to get rid of all the Chinese stuff on the phone. ALso, switch the keyboard to the regular Android one in the settings.

Hi!
Of course, but there are still some applications that are "System Applications" that you cant get rid of, like HiCare, HiApp, .. etc. and if you are in a country using special characters like ü or åäö, these are not rendered correct in the Mail app (shows up as chinese chars).

Have you checked out the contacts yet, .. did you manage to sync contacts from your Google account? Because my contacts from google dont show up in the Huawei built in "Contacts" App (which is also used by the dialer). Only contacts from Skype, LinkedIn, WeChat etc. are shown.

Hi,
I also bought a P9 ( EVA-AL00 ) last June, and currently i'm having an issue.
Usually i don't have games on my phone, or almost none, but some days ago, i wanted to install Heartstone on my P9. When downloading , at about 85%, sometimes 9x% (once it reached 100%) suddently it pops out from Google Play, and don't install the game. I tried also with other games and it happens the same. It doesn't happens with every game, i tested sucessfully with Stack and Sokoban
I have plenty of free space on phone and several applications installed (no Google Play issue, i think).
After i received the phone, i download the Google services/play store APK without issues. I deactivated the chinese bloatware, with no issues. Once Google Play installed, i downloaded all other Google Apps i use and others without issues...well there is an issue i had with RT app. It installed ok, but sometimes when i want to open it, i have to try several times to open it... I click on icon but closes.
Have someone here with EVA-AL00 having this issue also?
Thanks!

I just bought the non-carrier specific 3G / 32G Chinese version (EVA AL00) P9 when I was in Guangzhou last week and had to do the following after coming back home to get it to work with google and sync with two google accounts.
1. Install Google Play Store from HiApp and sign in with first google account.
2. Make sure to give Google Play Store permission to access storage, otherwise large apps won't install.
3. Download apk of Google Contacts Sync from APKMirror
4. Download apk of Google Calendar Sync from APKMirror
5. Use the browser on the phone to download these two apk files and follow the instruction on the phone to install them.
Sorry I'm not allowed to post outside links yet, however google search keywords like Google Contacts Sync APK will turn up the download links.
6. Since the phone still did not allow me to add a second google account in Settings -> Accounts -> Add Account, I had to install Youtube and use the Add Account in Youtube to add a second google account.
After these steps, I was able to sync contacts and calendar events with both google accounts and install apps from Play Store.
Hi, I too recently purchased a Huawei P9 EVA- AL00 , my issue is that I cannot source the Drivers for this model and I have searched the web on several occasions and several web sites? I am trying to unblock the bootloader so I can change over to English version. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's great to see good ratings and positivity about this phone here.
I'm surprised as I always came here to hack my device to intmstall custom Roms and Huawei doesn't give access to do that
I'm reaching out to you in hopes of getting some actual real user experience threads created on the official Huawei UK Community.
A handful of the moderators including myself have made some reviews on how to get apps etc. We aren't after full blown reviews but similar to what your experiences have been like.
This will help average users make a decision whether to buy the phone or not
If you post remember that most users of the community are not experts or technologists. They are usually people looking for help.
You can access it using Huawei support app by clicking forum or visit
https://consumer.huawei.com/uk/community/list/?forumId=20361
And login With your Huawei ID.
You'll get a generic username so update that to anything reasonable.
You could get featured by Huawei a social media too
Links back to this community will just show as text rather than an active link. Their whitelisted urls are few and far between.
Thanks for your help if you decide to contribute
Whilst you're there you can submit some images to Huawei Next-image which is a Global photography contest of certain topics but have to be photos taken on a Huawei device.
Thanks again.
I have a P40 Pro on the way, i have had many Huawei phones and think what Huawei are doing with HMS is a massive undertaking in the west. Only huawei can pull it off. Each day HMS is getting better and these forums and huawei community are really helping me get used to this new experience.
HMS is not perfect at the moment but when i remember the failures of the BB and Windows - Huawei are going in the right direction and not following those mistakes.
Politics and biases aside. I look forward to seeing more fantastic hardware from huawei and the software is going in the right direction.
I'm amazed to see diehearts like you folks willing to stick to Huawei HMS and refuse to serrender to Google GMS. I'm equally inspired by Huawei which is striving their best to reach out to 1.4mil developers worldwide to port their esteemed apps over to Huawei AppGallery. It's becoming quite usable lately as more and more local everyday used apps have been made available on the AppGallery. :victory:

If notifications worked reliably with HMS-naked, then it would be very easy for me to stick with HMS-naked ... unfortunately notifications really suck, hence I am stuck with a HMS+microG install for now ... but at least that is better than HMS+GMS.
Let me know when notifications are fixed on HMS-naked, then I will uninstall microG.

go to thread in this P40 Pro forum .. i think it was in the recent thread in this forum for nova ... linked back to a german forum .. but here is below ...
microG
https://microg.org/
1. Perform a factory reset of the phone.
2. Install F-Droid app
3. Add this repo into F-Droid .... https://microg.org/fdroid/repo
4. In F-Droid, then install MicroG Services Core.
5. In F-Droid, then Install MicroG Services Framework Proxy.
6. In F-Droid, then Install the MicroG FakeStore.
6. Open the Microg Settings app. Grant it all permissions and disable battery optimizations.
7. Add your Google account.
8. Turn on Device Registration, Cloud Messaging and SafetyNet.
9. Restart your phone.
10. Open Microg Settings app, check the status under Cloud Messaging. If it says not connected enter the following in the phone app: *#*#2432546#*#* and restart your phone. Check the status again - it should say Connected. (I had to enter the phone string and restart my phone twice until it said connected).
11. Install apps
12. Check connection in microG app for Google Cloud Messaging
All this will give you is push notifications with Google Cloud Messaging (including the Google Firebase messaging).
I also had notification issues caused by either Huawei PowerGenie and Android Doze .. if the notifications work and then suddenly stop after an hour or so, then try these ..

microG is a small open-source app .. used in many custom ROMs for years .. simple, quick to install, and less risk of update hassles, and easy to uninstall later if needed, and still very close to HMS-naked, it just provides notification access to google push notifications (google cloud messaging and google firebase cloud messaging).
if you want to use google apps, then this really isn't the phone to buy .. all the hassles & problems with GMS and then what is the benefit of the P40 Pro .. just a camera with DXOMARK score of 128, when you could have bought another android phone with a DXOMARK score of 123 .. virtually no difference.
but microG gets us pretty close to HMS-naked (when the notifications get fixed with HMS-naked, then I will go HMS-naked).
the first microG install might take 15 mins .. but if you ever need to install again, it is about a 3 minute process once familiar.

i would like to know the answer to this question .. i.e.
a) can huawei update HMS Core with to make apps compatible with huawei cloud messaging system ... or
b) is the only option for wait months or years for all the various app developers to update their apps for huawei cloud messaging system?
hopefully it is (a)
on the huawei forums, one of the regular users, said that the notification problems were a EMUI 10.1 problem .. so I'm not really sure yet
Depending on how easy it is for developers to add HMS and get officially listed in AppGallery.
Hoping it's as simple as
if gms. Not Installed then.... Hms.Notification() else gms.Notification();
Without checking any of the Dev guides or codes.
It wouldn't be too big an undertaking

Huawei P40 Lite vs Microsoft Authenticator- Push notifications not working!

Hi!
I'm trying to setup MFA from Microsoft using their MS Authenticator app, on my Huawei P40 Lite. It isn't working and i get an error saying something about "push notifications registration failed". I guess this is related to the non existing Google Services, right?
When i got the smartphone (April 2020) i followed one of the multiple guides i found on YouTube to install Google Services and all seemed to work ok. I never got any errors/problems since. Also, i get notifications from "all" my usual apps - WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, Gmail app, etc.
Anyone has ideas? Is there anyway to "update" the Google Services installation "procedure", without reseting my Huawei P40 Lite?
Regards,
JP
If the App uses GMS or GCM (both google messaging) then it will most likely not work. I have the same Problem with my 3CX Client App aswell as VIP Access MFA

I really don't know if Microsoft Authenticator app uses GMS or GCM. I don't have the tech skills to say that. I just assumed so, because i can't get it to work on my Huawei P40 Lite (i get a push notifications registration error) but i can make it work on a Huawei P20 Lite (for example), using the same Microsoft accounts. This is BS! :crying:
Thanks for you help!
Microsoft Authenticator will never work on Huawei phones due to 2 things:
- Mandatory GCM for push notifications
- Google Services check in manifest that cannot be bypassed.
Never again will I buy a phone without booloader unlock.
if you have the google service installed and the notification push activated or you freeze the gfs to have the notification push it will work!

It's too much of a bet. It's very unfortunate as the hardware is extremely good, but really, even with adding the phone to the android custom rom exception listing, it's way too much of a hassle.
Checking back in a few years, but it's looking dark unless bootloader is unlocked and custom roms start getting in. I believe it will never happen in order to protect other chinese manufacturers like Xiaomi & Oppo.

European (C432) Mate 40 Pro native GMS for Google-login (non-root non-virtual) Euro-variant International [NOH-NX9]

I will keep this post updated if working solutions are shared.
Native Solutions (with push notifications, location services, google login):
None so far.
Virtual Machine environments:
Lighthouse (Only working for C636 region, not C432 euro-edition)
OurPlay (Chinese-only interface, but uses system languge for installed apps)
DualSpace (loses ability to install apps/updates after a day)
VMOS (old android v7, with virtual root and Xposed)
VPhoneGaGa (old Android v7, with virtual root)
Since many threads have confusion about methods which only work for Chinese version, please help confirm GMS installation methods for the international version, so we can test properly. Because Google apps are what many of our coworkers, colleagues, and friends use we unfortunately can't just abandon them. Therefore, only solutions that work with login to Google services (not just GMS but actual Google authentication, like for Gmail, Google Voice, YouTube Music, Meet, Chat, Maps, Calendar, Photos, etc.) will be accepted.
Apparently MicroG only works for apps which don't need to use Google login, has anyone found a real solution? Is there any downside to install Chinese firmware onto the phone (will OTA updates still work)? https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...o-international-mate-40-pro-possible.4196699/
While we wait for the hackers and modders to work around Google's ban, let's…
Contact app developers about publishing to the Huawei AppGallery and share their replies
See how we can help figure out solutions
Share alternatives we are using to the Google(-dependent) services we have been locked in to (I will add best to this list)
Google Alternatives
Meet/Duo:
https://meet.jit.si/
Google Chat:
https://element.io/ (like Slack, MS Teams, Discord)
https://signal.org/ (like FB Messenger, WhatsApp)
Google Maps:
https://osmand.net/
Authenticator:
https://f-droid.org/en/packages/org.shadowice.flocke.andotp/
I think we will have to wait a while for a Way that works on the International Model, there's literally no working Way right now.
I got used to use Outlook for my Gmail Account, YouTube Vanced which is better then the Normal YouTube App and i do use Google Maps but i never logged in there so it's not a problem for me. But of course a working Way would be nice.
And afaik you can't just Flash the Chinese Rom so easily...
I'm still wondering why the International Version is so much more locked up Software wise then the Chinese one
Hi..
I have the international version and you are right, the Chinese method does not work with this model.
I have sped the last 7 days with this phone and almost tried all combinations of installations and nothing works.. Seems I can't get the App "G" (whatever its called) to work my the device and I don't want to downgrade the OS. I just can't believe that a giant like Huawei just gave up and didn't leave any backdoors for us to use the phone. in my opinion, Huawei mobile phone business is doomed. its unfortunate for a perfect phone to lack basic apps just because of Google and US gaining on the company.
Hopefully, things will change once TRUMP is pushed out of office soon.
Do you have guidance on the last version of Maps ??
I have it just on 10.49.3 version ...
Huawei is way far from being doomed, they are very successful in Asia where nobody is obsessed with Google. There is life without Google but it's not as comfortable as all western users are used to.
Actually I would blame Google for being so closed and not allowing proper app support without GMS and developers that rely so much on Google services like Firebase. How is it possible that a banking app is not able to function without GMS? Or Microsoft Teams still complaining that GMS is not available... Big part of the world is too dependent on a couple of US based companies...
Also even without Trump there is a very small chance that anything will change in regards to US ban and sanctions on Huawei.
App "G" is called LZPlay. Here is a good read what it actually does:

@topjohnwu/huaweis-undocumented-apis-a-backdoor-to-reinstall-google-services-c3a5dd71a7cd
I am quite comfortable without GMS and I still use some of the Google apps. WebApps are actually quite decent: Google Fotos, Google Drive etc.
Now when it comes to GMS implementation on Huawei. Not sure what will just waiting change, who do you think will change anything?
Only way to install GMS without Google approval would be to use MDM (mobile device management) app that functions similarly to LZPlay but is owned by a developer who is not hiding as it is a case with LZPlay. But I don't think that Huawei will now approve a signed build of any app that will try to use those APIs mentioned in the article.
In China they can do whatever they want with the FW but in rest of the world they comply with the ban. Also it seems that Google specifically needs to white-list device fingeprints. MicroG should in theory work with new Huawei phones even including log-in but it does not, exactly due to the missing white list.
RTFM, push app developers to work with HMS and educate yourself on what is really the problem. Alternatively just wait

Totally disagree that in Asia nobody is obsessed with Google. China doesn't represent Asia. Most countries outside China is using GMS on daily basis. They use G Suite, Gmail in business, Especially during this pandemic time, Google Meet is one of the frequent used App for communication. Not to mention many travelling apps, banking apps are relied on GMS.
You may able to survive without GMS, but just like itchiness, it won't kill you, but it just annoys you all the time.
That is a good statement. But the situation is as it is and simple peasant users like we are will not be able to change it
Any updates on this?

Edit...
Still waiting.
Yesterday just purchased mate 40 pro international version in Singapore. I tried all the tutorial found online and cannot work. So now I have no choice but using VMOS.

I will keep this post updated if working solutions are shared.
Since many threads have confusion about methods which only work for Chinese version, please help confirm GMS installation methods for international users who need to login to Google services (not just GMS but actual google authentication, like for Play Store, Google Voice, YouTube Music, Meet, Maps, Calendar, etc.) so we can test properly.
MicroG only works for apps which don't need to use Google login apparently, has anyone found a real solution? Is there any downside to install Chinese firmware onto the phone (will OTA updates still work)? https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...o-international-mate-40-pro-possible.4196699/
While we wait for the hackers and modders to work around Google's ban, let's:
Contact app develpoers about supporting the Huawei AppGallery and share their replies
Share alternatives we are using to the Googele(-dependent) services we have been locked in to
See how we can help figure out solutions

I've purchased Huawei Mate 40 Pro on yesterday, but seems like everyone is facing the same issue when installing GMS using Googlefier that lzplay show message in Chinese that it didn't support for this device. Maybe there's alternative way to reinstall the app again?

Hopefully, things will change once TRUMP is pushed out of office soon.

but I never see solution that people downgrade (Mate 40 Pro) and install GMS
All GMS installation methods used so far are based on EMUI 10. Mate40 pro has EMUI 11, so nothing will work for now.

It stil works on the Chinese version Mate40 Pro
I read in a video posted on youtube that a chinese app ourplay its like a chinese version of playstore installs gms for emui 11.
Tried installing the app the only problem is it you can only use the app with a china IP address so i couldnt fully verify if it works or not.
Anybody wanna try for mate 40 international phones?
Installer can be downloaded on their site ourplay.net

So very frustrated and sad.

As per the title, I tried to live with this phone, (3 months) but alas without Google it's dead in the water. It's hardware is fantastic.
But the lack of GMS kills it.
I will be trading it in shortly.
What do you need to do with it and it doesn't work?
Except for some banking applications, for payments via NFC (for this you can use Curve or iCard), and Android Auto, what do you want to use and can't?
WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, Google photos, Signal, Telegram, Maps, Waze, YahooMail (own application, E-mail, work fine too, with Gmail or Yahoo mail account), YouTube Vanced, all work fine ...
I get what you mean but it's just not that great a mobile without GMS.
At least not for me.
The Huawei store is just not that good an alternative. If it were as good as the hardware I would agree but sadly I cannot.
Such a shame, another great mobile crippled by politics.
I still don't understand what you want to use on it and you can't ...
As alternative store you can use APKMirror, APKPure, Aptoide and many other app stores.
If you constantly use payments by phone (NFC) or Android Auto, yes, then I understand the dissatisfaction of not being able to use them.
Otherwise ...
LE: For the NFC payments, I installed Curve, probably tomorrow I will make the first payment, for the test. There are already mates who said that it works without problems (Curve or iCard).

Totally agree, life without Google is sweet, and if... If really can't find what you looking for there's Aurora Store and Gspace, love my mate 40 Pro!
Right, I forgot to mention Aurora, this is the main store that I use.
Instead of Gspace I use Ourplay, it's more functional.
I keep Google play Services disabled most of the time. I use it for gmail and Gmaps.
Keeping it disabled saves me 2%@hour SOT!
Lol, Playstore been offline for over a month and it's being hard to fix so I ignore it.
Really Gmaps is the only thing I really need of all the Gookill junk to run, Gmail can be accessed online. I rarely use gmaps.
Google is junkware.
You can use another phone to download Playwhore apps then use ApkExport to make installable copies for the Google free phone.
Be glad you're Gookill free
Find workarounds and be happy!
For Gmail and Yahoo accounts, I use Yahoo mail (without notifications) and Huawei own app, Email app (here I can receive notifications).
Maps works fine too, without login option if I' m talking about normal instalation, and with login option if I'm talking about app installed on Ourplay.
I have had p40 pro since launch and been using the google apps a lot. today they stopped working. I am not happy about it. yes there are alternatives, but i truly dont want them. I dont want to use Waze for public transport or for walking from A to B. At least i have vance but that takes forever to load sometimes. I am just fed up of this
What doesn't work anymore, exactly?
No Google apps?
I understand you have GMS installed on your phone ... or not?
Maps should work ok; on phones without GMS you do not have the possibility to log in, if you want this facility you can use it in Ourplay, it works very well there.
Have you done any upgrades recently (sistem or apps) and since then the respective applications no longer work?
Give more details ... possibly also the version number of the respective application.

I don't use Android auto and payment apps but over these I have multiple problems without GMS:
- company tools: teams, mobileiron doesn't work
- play store paid app missing full functionality: onvier, aodnotify pro, VPN client pro (for TAP VPN connection), etc
- most of apps (even those that available in appgallery too) using google apis. so they works but you cannot get notifications, or facing other functional deficiency (typically banking apps, but almost every app)
- I'm local guide on google maps, but cannot login.
I don't trust unknown chinese apps like Gspace and Ourplay furthermore the notifications doesn't work properly.
In this year I used Samsung Galaxy S21+, Xiaomi Mi11 ultra and Huawei Mate 40 pro. the mate 40 Pro would be far best from this trio if it would have GMS.
For me it's a nonsense here.
I buy and I use a chinese phone, but I don't have trust on chineze apps ...
If we remember well, even Play Store (by Google) had problems with some apps (with viruses and other things).
Everyone talks about Google and / or Samsung and how much they spy, but we are only bothered by Huawei or some applications, just because they are Chinese.
I'm not Chinese, I don't raise statues for them, but I think the situation is crazy.
I am in the same boat here with a Mate 40 Pro. How is everyone getting around using banking apps on your Mate 40 Pro? Is sideloading or use them in ourplay considered safe? That is probably the only thing I am missing on Mate.
There are banking applications that work normally and applications that do not work at all.
Usually they don't work through Ourplay either ...
Payment can only be made via NFC through certain applications, such as Curve or iCard.
Well gentlemen,
I have traded mine in for a Xiaomi.
The mate is a fantastic phone with a tragic software problem, (at least for me) I do so hope this situation is resolved.......
Same here. The problem is that government APP and bank APP need GMS, otherwise they just refuse to run.
Czytam te skargi i nie odchodzę od nich. Mam Mate 40 Pro i wszystko, czego potrzebuję, mam na telefonie. Mam 2 aplikacje bankowe i płatności telefonicznie 2 polskie banki (mBank i PKO BP). Android auto nie działa, ale jestem bardzo zadowolony z Petal Maps i od dawna nie myślałem o korzystaniu z Google Map. Trochę i wymiana AA również będzie.

Hi I have issue can't login to my local banking apps because keyboard cover login button , is there any idea how to hide keyboard so that I can login..Many Thanks
I have very very very rarely encountered this problem. It always gets fixed by hiding and re opening the keyboard. Otherwise check if you have changed any parameters in the keyboard app, like size and behaviour.
