Mi Mix 3 5G should be getting updates (supposedly) - Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5g Guides, News, & Discussion

Just had an email from Xiaomi UK customer support saying after the MIUI 12 update we should expect to see further updates to the device. It's a flagship device in the UK and one of the only Xiaomi devices sold on all major UK networks so it's to be expected they would need to start getting updates out for it.
Here is the email:
Dear Sir/Madam
Greetings from Xiaomi
Thank you for contacting us, We’re sorry to hear about this , we wanted to assure the stable software to be sent out for our 5G devices , there will be an update soon via MIUI 12 update , we could assure that you will receive further updates.
Best Regards,

Thanks, Let's hope they follow through

I wish that is true, but honestly I doubt it. I got this 5g version in a sale but I didn't imagine it was abandoned by Xiaomi.

Unfortunately miui 12 with Android 9. A shame! Untill the end of September they should update this unlucky phone

There seems to be mixed reports coming out Xiaomi regarding this, some customer service reps are saying October and others (more recent referencing this article: https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/07/...-mix-3-5g-says-xiaomi/#:~:text=GizmoChina.com ) are saying discontinued. Unfortunately at this stage it is a wait and hope scenario.

I found this on reddit

there will be no marshmallow for the axon elite

Hey Guys
I spent a long time dealing with ztes awful support trying to get to the bottom of will we get any updates for the elite i did point out the chinese rom almost is perfect so it would be minimal effort and the manager replied this ?
it seems they dont care about the elite or pro anymore in favour of the new 7 and it seems they dont care about us as customers either im sure being abandoned supper quick is going to put people off buying there devices in the future i know for a fact this is my first and last zte device i hope the new google pixel is good
Dear valued ZTE customer,
Thank you for contacting ZTE.
We are sorry for all the inconvenience caused to you.
We were trying to collect some information from you after we received your E-mail, so that we could offer you more quickly and specific help. That's the reason why we were trying to collect the information like IMEI numbers from you in our previous
E-mail. Without those information, it would take a little longer for us to get the information from our concern department. We are sorry for the misunderstanding during the process.
And we are sorry to tell you that ZTE Axon Elite supports only Android 5.1. There is no Android 6 update plan so far.
Should there be further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us with previous E-mail history.
Best regards,
Really sad that they cannot provide even one major update to the phone.
"And we are sorry to tell you that ZTE Axon Elite supports only Android 5.1. There is no Android 6 update plan so far. " <-- It only supports 5.0.2 or is there coming 5.1 update....Think not.
My first ZTE phone and looks like its gonna be the last one.
This contradicts the message from @siukee that the Axon Elite will upgrade to Nougat!

Modified 6.0.1 is working great.

Android Nougat 7.0 options

Does anyone know whether the Mi Mix will get the Nougat update? And if not, whether it is possible to install a clean android version on there?
I have contacted Xiaomi in every country to see if anyone is able to give me a direct answer. I'll post it here, when i get one.

Supposedly mix will get nougat, when who knows.
Probably within a few months would not count on it sooner than that really.

Information for UK customers

I noticed that both Germany (upated to 127) and India (face unlock) have had updates but after talking on chat to the UK Honor rep there apparently is no information about any updates/features for UK customers.
Additionally tried to register for club.hihonor.com and the 'Country/Region' selection does not even include the UK at all.
So apparently we're ok to buy them and pay full price same as everyone else, but not ok for the same level of support or customer service.
I'm putting this here because I bought this phone after the positive reviews from many commentators but it's now obvious to me that these commentators don't all do their homework properly and some just concentrate on the product and forget about the other differentiator, which is the after-sales, customer service and support.

I think you just should wait. According to project Treble you should get updates anyway sooner or later.

Yes I'm aware of project treble, but that has absolutely nothing to do with honor, several other android phones support project treble indeed it is a must by google that any device with Oreo out of the box has to support it. The point i was making was particular to honor support not android in general. Additionally project Treble requires you to unlock the BL, OTA updates by manufacturer do not.

Apologies but your quoted project treble so i assumed you were familiar with what that entails. You can read up on it if you need deeper info but what it comes down to is to use project treble you replace your system.img partition and you cannot do that without unlocking your bootloader. A manufacturer provided OTA update is signed and therefore updates your system normally without having to unlock anything just a standard system update. That is why the point is that if honor does not provide updates you have to resort to some custom update which is not the same. Now Honor has already updated both German and Indian honor 9 Lite (read threads here and you'll find reference to that) but UK ones are not even scheduled according to their own customer service who i chatted with. Try and register on club.hihonor.com and you'll discover the UK according to them is not even on the planet since they list most countries except the UK.

As far as I understood Project Treble is more related to the vendor partition. Never ever heard before that you have to unlock the bootloader to get updates from Project Treble. Are you sure about that? Any links?

go here https://forum.xda-developers.com/pr...-development/experimental-phh-treble-t3709659 and search for 'vendor partition' and you'll realise what you say is partially correct. Some vendors integrate the vendor partition inside system.img some have A and B partitions some only have A partition (like ours). You can never overwrite the system partition without unlocking the bootloader because it is set to read only, if it wasn't the whole of the android community would be in a heap of trouble. Imagine users (who don't know what they're doing) gaining access to /system and amending stuff, the result will most likely boot loop or soft/hard brick your device.
Anyway, this is taking us away from the point I was making and apologies but will not be adding anything further, if you do not agree with it that ofcourse is your prerogative.

I'd say, this article makes a very good description of what Project Treble is in fact:

@xzyk thanks for the info.
Im based in the UK also and was going to purchases the 9 Lite but i'll hold off for now. If custom ROMs pick up that may change.

Actions speak louder than words and by its actions to its UK customer base huawei/honor is showing how much it truly values us. Since there is absolutely nothing we can do about it i suggest best course of action is to vote with your feet and next purchase will be anything but a huawei/honor. At least that is still within our control. Huawei/honor give you some great value on hardware side unfortunately evidence shows that doesn't carry over to the software.

Which is what mine said till i used the Firmware tool on this site to upgrade from 8.0.0.128 to 8.0.0.131 so now i am on the latest. If you do the same i suggest you use the Full OTA update.
Huawei UK also said that 8.0.0.128 was the latest for the UK as well.

please stop asking questions nobody knows... it will be out when its ready.
Interestingly Huawei offered to update my phone beyond the Three UK v134 ..... But only if I sent the phone off to their engineers.

First, it was a legitimate question that somebody working at the appropriate place could very well know the answer to, second it is ready according to Huawei's own Weibo account.
I did hear from a couple of users that they've been told by Huawei Europe that the roll out of emui 9 will be on or near December 22 (Croatia and Serbia respectively).
I spoke with a Huawei Canada customer service representative who told me that the November 10 roll out was for Chinese models only and that no specific date has been provided for the North American release. They suggested following Huawei Mobile on social media for updates
?
So the more answers they give, the more questions remain.
If Europe is getting it December 22, the rest of the world can't be far behind.

Yes, Huawei Croatia said that roll out will be on December 22, and Huawei Serbia talk only about December (without precise day)
Conversely, you can try using Firmware Finder from the app store. I suggest watching a YouTube video on how to use it properly to install any available firmware for your Huawei device.
Given uk devices are still waiting on GPU turbo update that rolled out to other devices in the summer, I expect we might get pie by Easter?.... And I really wish that was sarcasm.
It seems the beginning will be 22nd of December, but national operators will hold it a bit, as usual.
I just contacted Three support to ask when updates (any updates!) are being pushed.... they responded:
"the android version are available on the Google store, Three provide with the phone and not android version."
Erm... what?!?!?!
---------- Post added at 17:11 ---------- Previous post was at 16:13 ----------
I've managed to speak to a customer relations manager - they are pushing an update next week, but won't say what version it is!
"As this point of time, the technical team are not ready to reveal that information. As they have been told by Huawei not to reveal this information till the software is realeased."!!
I have, however, managed to convince them to release me from the 24mth contract so I can return the phone. Fed up with the lack of development caused by the bootloader unlock issue, and the ridiculous lack of updates.

The models listed in the article should be the same ones that have EMUI 9 available for download through the Firmware Finder app.
Unfortunately, my model isn't listed as I'm sure others are missing too.
My model is listed in the article but not in firmware finder for pie
Not sure about trying it myself
Supposedly there might be a release to a major European market by the end of next week. I'd wait before trying something that's uncertain. Hopefully Canada isn't too far behind.
Last time Three UK told me something was "imminent" it was security patches that were already outdated and no new features at all.

Redmi S2 Official Suspended Development

Hey MIUI'ers......
Today, I think I have no words to express the biggest...... What do u call it as......Hmm.... FAILURE OF XIAOMI I guess... Ok, let's go a year or a two back. The time when they launched the great budget camera smartphone- Redmi S2/Y2. This phone overall is a great phone with all the decent entry level specs. From the hardware side, I have no complaints at all. Overall everything was great. BUT, coming to the software, well, that's where the problem began to matter! They provided a 32bit ROM on a 64bit processor! I mean, like for real? Why? What was the matter? Ok, there was a lot of conflict for that issue. Then, it silenced a bit cause we used thought it'll be solved by an OTA update. But guess what? No! Xiaomi claims that their 'users' will lose their valuable data while shifting from a 32bit ROM to 64bit! So, they claimed they won't release the update for 64bit ROM. Well, y'all want our reply for that? Let the data go! We want that 64bit ROM, no matter what! Well ok, even after that, the company promised that they will definitely provide up-to-date software updates, at any cost no matter what! The Android Pie update and the MIUI 11 as well. They promised us users that they will release it before Q1 of the year 2019. We waited for that update eagerly. We were so eager for that update. It was suspended for 1 week. Ok, we'll wait for another. Even the second week. Ok, we'll wait for that next. Even the next, it was suspended. Ok, waiting for the next. And still this continued on and now, Q1 is over and Q2 has begun. And now, Xiaomi claims that they will release it in Q2! And we're like, "WHAT! IS THIS EVEN HAPPENING??? WHAT IS THEIR PROBLEM?" We S2/Y2 users have suffered a lot already. We don't have developers working on our phone at all. We just got few developers and we're grateful for them. All of us. But what did you do huh? Didn't provide a 64bit ROM, didn't release the kernel sources properly (most of it is broken) and now, didn't provide up-to-date software updates. You all appointed Beta Testers for this phone right? What happened to them? One leaked the ROM. How are you sure that the others won't? I BET YOU GUYS! ALMOST QUARTER PERCENT OF YOUR REDMI S2 BETA TESTERS DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO TAKE LOGS FROM THEIR PHONE! You appointed them just because they were always active on MI FORUM. And for no other reason. Look at the person's abilities and experience. Don't just look how much time they're online on
"Your Forum."
Judge us by our skills and experience.
And about the 64bit ROM, we don't care about our data. Provide us the ROM.
And about the Android Pie update, please do accept the fact that,

So...... Yeah, we still hope a little from you that you will release the Pie update soon!

Also please do check out the thread in Mi Forum.
Thank you
This is it!
You said what all of us wanted to say.
All of us don't understand what is the problem with S2/Y2 'cause is a really amazing phone, but that haven't an support.
It's so hard develop a 64-bit rom for a phone that have Snapdragon 625?
It's look like a negligency of Xiaomi...
It's an so singular phone, why it haven't attention?

First, The development is still going on, just that the internal team is ripped. Second, Xiaomi already provided you the right information of this device. While you were buying why don't you ask them is the device came with arm64-v8a or armeabi-v7a?
I'm tired of seeing people post these kind of things because it doesn't even make sense for me.
Xiaomi didn't claim the device come with arm64-v8a. What Xiaomi claim is the device is arm64-v8a capable (64 bit Snapdragon 625)
