Help needed! Galaxy Tab A SM-P580 - SD card as internal storage issue :( - Samsung Galaxy Tab A series Guides, News, & Discus

Well, I'm not exactly sure how it happened, but my tablet (with TWRP, Magisk and its ExSDCard Access Enabler module) finally recognized the 400GB SD card I dropped in it and allowed me to format it as internal storage. Then the fun (not really) began. It showed the card as internal storage. Under SD card it says not inserted. OK... but the internal storage says it has 511GB of data out of 512GB. Again, it's a 400GB card. There is about 150GB or so on it... my books library and that's really it. So that's one issue.
Secondly, I understood that using it as internal storage would allow for apps to be installed on it. I understood that to be "automatic" but maybe I was wrong? As I am installing more apps I'm running into error messages telling me I do not have enough space and that I need to uninstall apps. So I fired up AppMgr III to see what's going on. I have 15 apps on the SD card, 4 apps that are shown as movable, and 65 apps that are being shown as "Phone Only". And the 4 apps that can be moved - will not move. I've tried but after 20 minutes I have just cancelled the process.
So, where did I go wrong? How do I get this SD card to truly act as internal storage - i.e., allows for apps to be installed to it? I have searched in here and on Google and am stumped. HELP PLEASE? Thank you!!

Did you ever figure this out?

Hi. No, I have not. The tablet is still telling me I don't have enough space to install anything. Yet when I go into Apps, the apps will show, for storage, xxMB / 361GB of internal storage used. So somehow it knows about the space, but something else is preventing me from using it as it should be used. HELP???

Running Cyan's 4.2.15.1. - Apps installing to phone Memory

Hello Everyone, I was hoping someone could tell me if there was a quick fix or if I need to do a reinstall & add something that I didn't add.
I noticed today, my phone telling me it is running low on space & when I checked, it said I only had 9 megs left on the phone memory, however it did show I still had 465 megs on the secondary sd memory free.
I decided to try & install an app to see if the sd memory would go down or the phone memory. Well, the phone memory went down, but not the sd secondary.
I'm looking at the storage & unmount sd card & format sd card are "grayed out"
I also do have a \system\apps folder with some apps, along with the same one under \sd card\system\apps which that also has some apps.
Is there something I can do that can fix this? Or something else I need to check?
The only thing that I didn't do originally was create a swap partition.
Thanks
i believe if u reboot your phone all apps get thrown into ext partition. also try using cachemate , that will free up tons of space on your phone

If you want to have your apps on your sd card then you need an ext partition. You cannot currently house your apps on your sdcard.

[Q] Failed to move application. Not enough memory" when trying to move applications.
I've been using my google skills to try to figure this one out, but unfortunately, I did not find a single helpful post. I'm hoping someone can help.
When trying to move an application to the internet SD card, I get the error "Failed to move application. Not enough memory".
Problem is, I have 1.7GB left "On phone" and 11.3GB left "On SD Card". I'm using Apps2sd to report how much storage is left and to determine which applications can be moved.
I have read that if I had an external memory card, it would work. But I want to know if there's something that can be done so that we can move them to the internal SD instead.
From what I saw on a Nexus One, it appears that other Android phones don't have an internal SD card. So it would make sense that it moves it only to the external SD...
I just want input on this "problem", I'd really like to know why I can't use my 16GB of storage for applications! And also, enlighten other people that might come across this.
same problem here, any work around this issue?

Same problem. I don't want to use an external SD card. I just want to move the apllications to the internal SD card.

Anyone? C'mon folks! Why is this happening? How do we fix it? Could it be because of the lagfix? Using Froyo JL2 on a rooted and lagfixed (OCLF) I9000M.
Same here. As the previous posters, I am unable to move any app to SD.
When I try (through Manage applications), I get the dreaded "Failed to move application. Not enough memory" even if I have plenty of memory.
Is this a common problem? Are we the only ones experiencing it?
I am running JPY, updated through Kies after disabling the Voodoo lagfix and then doing a factory reset.
Please please help. At least let us know that it is just us and that it works for the rest of JPYs out there.

Received my replacement handset from Orange (UK) today. The GPS is locking on soo well, functions properly now.
I flashed straight to JPY via reg patch, tried moving an app to SD, get the same error message.
It worked on my old handset 2.2.1 JPY also but with subpar GPS. Today i receive a new handset with a different problem lol.
Any ideas...anyone??
Hey all .... the move to SD is only valid for EXTERNAL SD card, NOT internal.
I successfully moved some apps over after I slot in an external SD card for my SGS. Tried this after I read somewhere the 'apps2sd' tool is designed only for EXTERNAL SD.
Hope this helps....

So is the internal SD only for data storage, not apps?
I found a solution!
I had the same exact problem as you have, and after some rummaging around the interwebs I've found an answer -> SDMove
Just for the sake of information, make sure you don't have the phone connected to your PC via cable. Just like how it happened with me.
Also try SDMaid in market. It cleans the sd.

I have the same problem and I have an external SD card. Captivate ATT android 2.2 (for now)

[Q] Data SD Problems with Internal Problems

Hello All,
I have a new Xperia Z and have rooted it. Locked bootloader.
The trouble is that everything wants to go on the internal storage (which only has like 9gb left).
Nothing seems to install tot he external SD card. No option in the APPS section to move it either.
I tried using some Move2SD apps, but either they say there isn't an external storage or it's emulated.
So what can I do? I can't even download a small file currently because now my phone keeps saying that there
isn't sufficient space available. Which just isn't possible. I have like 25gb on the SD card and 9gp on the
cell internal. Something isn't quite working right I think.
Thanks for any help.

I have the same problem with my sony xperia L39u

Why does my phone say there isn't enough space to install an app when there is?

After shenanigans yesterday I've pretty much got my Moto G 2014 LTE running on Marshmallow.
\the problem I have now is one I've experienced a number of times before, on various devices and Android versions:
Why is it that, despite the storage screen showing that I have plenty of available space, am I not unable to install some larger apps?
Settings > Storage shows internal storage 1.15GB used of 5.52GB (as well as SanDisk SD card 890MB used of 14.59GB)
But when I try to install Injustice: Gods Among Us (1.12GB) i get the error message App requires external storage: "Injustice: Gods Among Us" can't be downloaded. Insert an SD card or USB storage with sufficient storage, and try again.
This app was installed prior to upgrading the OS, and while quite large, should still fit on to my device.
Can anyone tell me what causes this, what I can do to get round it, and also, if there is a way to make the OS see the SD card as part of the internal memory so I can install apps directly to it
On Marshmallow, it is possible to use external SD card as internal but don't do it.
Why ? Because you have a too small SD card. This option doesn't merge internal and external, it just sets the external as internal. So you need a 8gb or more SD card (or you will get less storage than before)
Maybe the play store doesn't want to install because your SD Card doesn't have enough space to install the game. I know it is weird, but sometimes even if you want to install to internal, it checks the SD card's available memory.
You can try to wipe the play store cache and data, and if it doesn't work do a wipe cache from recovery.
Try getting the apk file by google'ing it. Install it. Open it then check if it is downloading files or not.

Sorry that should have read 14.59Gb for the SD card, so loads of space

Tried to download the apk and it just days no SD card. I know its there, still shows up in settings and shows apps installed on it. Must be a dodgy card or something, but now i cant work out how to tell the phone to stop using it for apps and install internally unsteady (told it to use it as internal when I did set up, not sure how to go back)
EDIT: OK worked out how to get it to stop using the SD as internal and formatted it for data, and seems to be installing the game now. So I think that pretty much solves my immediate query, but still interested as to why android sometimes says insufficient space despite it reporting in settings that there is plenty

Yeah sorry for my mistake I have read 1.xxgb instead of 14.xxgb
Android reports the storage to be full as soon as XX% of the storage is filled (maybe 90%, I'm not sure). Then if you have a 100gb device, even if you have 10gb free it won't allow you to do anything.
That's weird, but that's how it works.
Have you tried wiping cache ? It sometimes solves the problem.
It is better not to use the format as internal storage except if you really know what you are doing.

Link2sd questions

I have a rooted Fire Tablet 5th generation 5.0.1, i used the one click script and it worked like a charm. I've used Link2sd (the free version), created the 2nd partition, and moved everything I can, but it hasn't changed the amount of free space on the device, for that matter it doesn't seem to have increased the amount of space on my external sd card either, so I'm still getting out of space warning/messages. When I look at the list of programs in link2sd almost all of the programs I've added say: on sdcard, linked->sd card. I had rooted with an earlier method (not one click using twrp) and had started using link2sd then without a 2nd partition. After I used the one click script and created the 2nd partition, it's recognizing it but when I try to move something to sd card in link2sd it looks like it's sending it but it just hangs and never completes. My sd card has 11 gigs free in one partition and 2 in the other, my internal storage is down to 256mb or so. I used the debloat version of the script and have about 12 apps I've added either prior to or after the script.
Any help or direction would be appreciated.
Did you enable the links in Link2SD? You have to do this as it won't enable itself.
I have been using it and it works fine. I only have the free version currently.

Ok, this is gonna sound like a dumb question: Is it possible I set it up wrong? when I look at storage info in link2sd it shows:
internal 11% free
Sd Card 11% free
External SD 93% free
SD Card 2nd Part. 78% free
could I have setup the internal sd card (item 2 in list above) rather than the external SD (item 3)? If it's even possible to do that how can I tell? I can It be fixed or would I have to start all over?
Thanks
I just realised that I am using FolderMount, Thought it was Link2SD.
Sorry.

No worries, btw, I have been "enabling links" or "linking to SD" for everything I just haven't seen a decrease in the storage consumption on the fire's internal storage. I'm not familiar enough with the file system to be able to tell what is on the device and what is on the external sd card. When I ran the script I did choose the "de-bloat" version so I'd expected to see space free up.
Is there a decrease in free space on your SD Card?
Not as much as I would have thought but I haven't been able to add any programs or games of any size as I keep getting the out of storage message when trying to download from an appstore.
By far the biggest space consumer on internal storage is TWRP which I used to root. I'm still on 5.0.1 and my understanding is if I deleted it and ever updated to 5.1.1, at least currently, that TWRP would not work any longer. Not that I'm using it.
I've installed Link2sd but having few problems.
Just as I got everything running smooth and apps on the sd card i've started to get ' Sd card unexpectedly removed' errors which means I have to reboot each time.
Never had the error before so i'm not sure if it's link2sd causing it, or just a coincidence and that my sd card is actually failing. Tried removing the card, cleaning contacts etc.
link2sd working?
Hi,
How did you get link2sd to work?
I'm trying to get link2sd working on a Amazon fire 7 5th gen.
When I try to get the app to link to the second partition I get 'Mount script error. Mount script cannot be created. Mount no such device." I thought it was because bootloader was locked down but if you guys have link2sd working maybe I'm wrong.
I've rooted the tablet using Rootjunky's video which works well.
The os is 5.1.1

When I tried this it said my device wasn't compatible. Looking for a tutorial.
UPDATE: Found a APP2SD (All in one) which did work perfectly.
