Wiping a phone before installing?

What steps are expected when one is to wipe data and cache for a fresh ROM install?
There are several ROMs that I'd like to try, and this seems to be a necessary step for all of them.
Currently, I'm running Adro-ID_V3.3-RC3, with kernel 2.6.35.7-perf by TJStyle, with Android version 2.3.5, and I'd like to take a look at the SHARP MOD listed elsewhere in the Huawei forums. I'm confident I know how to do the other steps, but I'm not too sure about the "wipe" portion.
Also, if I want to try out IceColdSandwich 8.1 listed in the Developers forums, what steps are necessary to ensure that I can go back to the Adro-ID_V3.3-RC3 that I am currently running if I feel that I'm not too happy with the ICS8.1?
Still getting my feet wet, so I apologize for the n00bness

as you are on rc3 by TJ Sir you already have CWM recovery.
Here is how to give a clean install/fresh install :::::
1. Power off your device
2. Reboot your phone into ClockworkMod Recovery (CWM)
3. In CWM "Wipe data/factory reset"
4. In CWM "Wipe Cache Partition"
5. Go To "Advance"
6. Select "Wipe Dalvik Cache"
7. Go To "Mounts And Storage"
8. Select "Mount System"
9. Then Select "Wipe System"
this is how a clean wipe is done...
You have been served now . Don't forget to Hit Thanks

as far as getting back to rc3 is concerned you can always use SUT LR 1.8.2 ...
backup neccessary data using Titanium Backup or Go Backup
put device in Download mode.
Select firmware.nb0 file
use Erase User Data setting.
Flash the rom wait till the process finishes..
Taddaaa You are on rc3 again

[TOOL] Simple full wipe cache flashable zip.

Hi guys,
Didn't saw any simple full wiping cache script for the Galaxy S3, so I decided to make one and share it to the community.
It might help and be useful in some case or if you are lazy like me at some hours
Feature :
Wiping cache
Wiping dalvik-cache
... and .. that's all
Just flash attached file via CMW recovery, (or directly via CF-Root CMW app if you are more lazy than lazy ).
Enjoy !

Flashing it like this will not create any advantage/benefit, but It can mainly solve various problems which is very often concerned by roms, kernel, after apk installation, or maintenance, etc.
How about a version with fix permissions too?

Depends on where you want to put it, but generally people put them into their "/sdcard" folder.
is it possible to create a script that can wipe cache, dalvik, fix permissions, then reboot? that would be really useful
Sent via TCP/IP
what's the problem with just wiping it manually? recovery->advance->wipe dalvik->wipe cache->fix permissions ?
This is for lazy/on-the-go members -_-
Recovery executor by fraggel does this from an app - in addition to flashing zips and installing apks.

wow, that is fantastic...I tried it is working.....you guys are doing amazing Job!

[Q] Google Play + Hashcode CM10.1

Hi, guys.
I've been using CM10.1 since @Hascode kindly put out his rom and I'm able to use the Google Play normally.
However, Google Play is now identifying my device as Kindle Fire HD and I'm not able to install anything. Is anyone else experiencing this?
Thanks in advance.

How did you flash the gapps? Because it shouldn't recognize your kindle.

Just followed the rules.
Wipe Cache/Dalvik, then install first the ROM and gapps.
Should I wipe everything or change any settings inside the zip file?
Thanks
I've done it!
For those with the same issues here's what you have to do:
Enter bootloader
Wipe
Wipe everything except "Internal Storage" and "Format Data"
Go back to main menu
Install
Add the ZIP files @Hashcode provided
After the process is done, wipe cache/Dalvik
Reboot
If everything goes right, the next time you reboot you'll see the 'Welcome' screen.
Good luck.
If you have any questions, just ask me.

check MD5 file
Hashcode say:
Code:
PLEASE BE SURE TO WIPE SYSTEM & DATA/CACHE (FACTORY RESET) WHEN COMING FROM AMAZON STOCK SOFTWARE.
(It's the "Wipe" button and then "System" and then "Factory Reset" button in TWRP -- this does NOT clear your sdcard space)
See here

How to go from OOS 5.0 to Stock Nouga

How to go from OOS 5.0 to Stock Nouga
Since you've made the spelling error twice, its Nougat, not "Nouga.".
I think the best way you could do it is flash the special Open Beta build on the Open Beta thread and then flash the stable build zip.
Whichever way you do the reversion, you will lose partial data, as N and O do not support each others app installations.

If you are unlocked bootloader, flash twrp 3.1.1-2 and clear dalvik data cache and system, and just flash them through twrp
dont use twrp 3.2.0-0 because you cant install magisk, it shows installed but magisk doesnt seem to be recognized in apps
I've just done that, and everything seems working flawlessly
Pls do hit thanks if i help you

Does your solution avoid erasing internal storage? Because that's the part that's preventing me as it can take too long getting my backups into the phone again.

i never format my internal sdcard partition
it's taking too long time to backup and restore it again
as i said, only format dalvik cache data and system thru twrp and you're good to go
download special edition nougat revert zip file and flash it via recovery
http://oneplusroms.s3.amazonaws.com...337224&Signature=BEA4IHd/rVFqoPd2gh7EvwaoSeg=
notes :
The build will wipe app and cache data, but Internal Storage will be saved (ie: pictures and files)
Users who revert their device back to the special build can still OTA update the device to Android O build at a later date.
Steps to revert:
Download special build
Copy to Internal storage
Reboot to recovery Mode to install
Choose “Install from Local”
Choose the downloaded build to install
