System Apps with publicity - Redmi Note 9 Questions & Answers

I have recently acquired a redmi note 9. My first experience with MIUI
I was surprised that some system applications display publicity. That is not acceptable. I want any undesired publicity. Less so if some user data is collected to target the publicity.
Is this publicity a problem with my phone only, or do all MIUI ROM display publicity?
Does anyone know if this publicity collects user data?
Is there any way to remove the publicity? Or removing the applications displaying it? Or any way to block the publicity on those applications?
Many thanks in advance

By "publicity", do you mean advertising?
If I remember correctly during setup there is the option to show or hide advertising - I've always declined advertising on the two Xiaomi phones I've owned
Also I'm in the EU - I think the international / EU MIUI distribution has more limited advertising than elsewhere
Where are you based and what firmware are you using?
I'm using the stock build of MIUI 11.0.5.0 QJOEUXM
Either way, I don't get any marketing at all from the OS (I use a different launcher too and don't use any MIUI apps, aside from the camera)
AdGuard deals with any unwanted advertising within 3rd party apps

Hi Thesoupthief
Thanks for your reply.
I really do not remember any option to show or hide advertising. I will clear all data and run set up again. This time I will put special attention on any advertising options
I am using V11.0.4.0.QJOEUXM (MIUI11).
Which launcher do you use?
Did you uninstall MIUI system apps (is that possible?) or did you just install different apps?
Which apps do you suggest replacing MIUI ones?
Thanks in advance

Hi, you might try updating through settings to get the point update to MIUI 11.0.5.0 - unlikely to make any difference in terms of marketing, but nice to have the latest
I tried a few different launchers and settled with CPL - custom pixel launcher - it allows you to swipe right for Google feed etc, which I use a lot
I still have some MIUI apps (most can't be uninstalled without root, though some can be) though have Hidden them all from the app drawer to reduce clutter. I'm more comfortable with the Google alternatives ("better the devil you know...")
I was hoping to be able to use a GCam mod to replace the camera app, but the only one available for this phone at the moment is a bit slow and janky - I've been pretty happy with shots I've taken with the stock camera (though the watermark is pretty offensive, until you find the "off" setting!)
EDIT - a bit of further reading and advice you might find helpful in this article - https://www.androidauthority.com/remove-ads-xiaomi-miui-1019139/

Found this post, very helpful for disabling advertisings on MIUI:

Few queries on Redmi 4A (simple but challenging)

I have searched internet for below mentioned queries but could not find a solution. Hope someone can help out here.
(1) How to remove the unnecessary Google apps?
I read somewhere (and on this forum as well) that this can be done through Google Playstore but I dont see the options in Google Playstore account. (Maybe it doesnt work anymore)
(2) How do I remove Mi App Store and other Mi apps?
Can it be uninstalled... or atleast disabled?
(3) What is authenticity of Security app?... remove Cheetah, Tencent?
I am not sure how reliable this pre-installed Security app is or whether it is authentic as I dont see it in Google Playstore (I dont feel comfortable to have any app in my mobile which is not on Google Playstore).
New Android devices actually dont need app/memory cleaner, etc. There are numerous negative reviews about Cheetah, etc. I saw that Security app uses engine of Cheetah, Tencent, etc. Better to remove it?
(4) I dont see many settings in Camera. Is there guide to actually understand the settings, how to use, etc?
(5) I see that there are guides thread in bit and pieces, but is there any complete PDF, user maual or user guide for Redmi 4A or MIUI 8?
Thanks!
Easy solution is to install custom ROM.
Check this, https://forum.xda-developers.com/general/general/update-redmi-4a-users-t3706184.
As I know, user manual for Redmi 4A has not yet been available on the manufacturer's official website.
But manuals for other Redmi phones, such as Redmi 5A, are available there.
1. Removal via Play Store only applicable if you're installing them via Play Store i.e. not pre-installed. If you want to remove the pre-installed ones without root then try this
2. You can't really remove any of the system app if you're on official MIUI ROM because of its stock kernel (dm-verity). Try to remove them and it'll put your phone on a bootloop on the next boot because it checks the system integrity and refuses to boot if it detects any changes to the system, including file deletion. Maaybe you can if you're rooted and you have a modified kernel installed that disables the dm-verity.
3. It's an OEM app, meaning it was from the ROM itself. The manufacturer may decide if their OEM apps will be up on Play Store, so it may or may not be available from there. Think of it like your stock launcher. And well, it's Cheetah. Disable all of its updates and configurations (virus definition, auto scan etc.) and you're good. You can just disable the cleaner engine to stop the cleaner altogether. And as mentioned earlier, don't try to remove a system app if you're on an official MIUI ROMs. Didn't want to risk yourself to putting your phone into a bootloop. Unless you can do it properly then sure thing. Make sure to take a backup beforehand.
4. Most camera settings are pretty self-explanatory, so maybe they decided to not put much on the camera 'guide'
5. No. Not all guides comes with a PDF, and there's not a single guide that covers everything. Sometimes they came like forum threads like this. The only user manual/user guide available is the booklet that came with your phone. And I'm pretty sure that's not the guide you're looking for, as that booklet only covers the very basic operations of your phone.

Hi thatOneWeeaboo. Thanks for your kind help. :good:
Just a basic question.. are those Google apps and Mi Apps "pre-installed ones" or "system apps"?
I read somewhere that bloatware can be removed by simple app known as "Activity Launcher".. but will have research about it... Any inputs on it?

Technically speaking, System Apps are 'pre-installed' and pre-installed apps isn't always a system app. If the latter is your case, you can just remove them via your Apps section in your Settings menu, no need lengthy steps or commands.
You've probably read a similar guide that I linked and the "Activity Launcher" app's purpose is to launch a certain app's activity, therefore it's isn't actually removing the bloatware. As far as I know, it is used to launch the AOSP version of the Aplication Settings that normally isn't visible within the MIUI skin. You can actually disable most Google packages and some MIUI apps within there.

Check out my thread for simple solution for system apps:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help/miui-8-debloater-script-t3678972
And for camera, there is a mod you can try http://en.miui.com/thread-577424-1-1.html
After that you get the manual mode. In simple, set low ISO on good lighting scenes like sunrise or outdoors and high ISO for dark places, indoors and don't use flash when high ISO is set or you'll get a distorted image.
For shutter speed, set it to shortest on daylight scenes and for night scenes set it to the longest so it will be capable of capturing more light. For focus, when taking macro set focus to lower values and taking normal shots set it 35 to 50 and for broader views and distant object set it higher values.
Hope I helped you, but quite late

Thanks for replying mate, but I dont think I would want to install all those zip files in my mobile. You never know if they are itself corrupted/malware/spyware. But thanks for replying!

If you're insisting to not install anything that doesn't come from Play Store, then try another camera app, like Open Camera. Other than that, there's isn't much you can do without installing things outside of the Store. Actually, LineageOS's stock camera, dubbed Snap Camera, is a pretty great camera app. But since it's not from the Play Store then I won't recommend it to you because, well, it's not from the Store.

That's a pretty much a valid concern, but there's other people's testimony if things are actually working. So you can see e.g. if it's fixed your problem or make it worse by messing up stuff.
Also, not all Play Store apps are safe, though. There are some apps that collects your information/personal data without you knowing e.g. a Keyboard app that asks for your Device ID

ROM without Google

Hello,
I am interested in the Mi 9 and want to buy it.
The bad news is, that Lineage just started to support the Mi 8 version, so Mi 9 support will take 1 year, too maybe.
I read all threads here, but I dont see any users who are interested in a ROM without Google.
Can someone tell me if there are other ROMs without Google which will maybe support the Mi 9 in the future?
And one question to the Google users: Why do you use ROMs with Google?
Thanks!
hi!
Room without google is chinese MIUI
I personally use google ROMs, as I use some of their services, mail, calendar, youtube to name a few
Well, the device came out two weeks ago and - not as usually Xiaomi do - has already the sources out too (usually they come out around 6 months later)!
So, a ROM like Lineage (unofficial) will probably come from the dev community very soon when someone with the right skills will invest some of his/her time (and then we will have to thank that person massively ).
Anyway if you ahve already the bootloader unlocked, you can try with some of the Treble ROMs (https://forum.xda-developers.com/project-treble)... It can be that some of them works already, even if with some bugs If I remember right phhusson bought a Mi9 too (am I wrong?)! So probably Phh-Treble ROM should sooner or later work for the Mi9
P.S. MIUI China is without Google but with so much more bloat
P.P.S. Well, I like Android for its integration with the Google ecosystem that I use widely in my real life (like probably most of the users... Gmail, Maps, Calendar, Youtube, etc...). If probably I wouldn't have needed it, I would have look to some of the other (few) OS alternatives in the market

Thank you for your answer, very helpful.
Why use a ROM with Google services in it?
Because Gmail is one of the better free email services out there. Google Music is far better than Spotify. Games saves my progress when I change to a new phone. Contact sync is extremely easy when it is saved to your gmail anyway. Play Store is the best app store on Android by far. Google's customized news feed lets me stay updated on things far easier than visiting other sites individually or manually setting up new feeds with third party apps that also take your data anyway. Google Photos+Drive is a great way to easily and automatically save your photos and sync them to new phones and without even taking up extra space on your new phone because they are really still in the cloud. Calendar is fine simply because it comes with the rest of the apps and dont have to bother with going and finding a third party app.

You forget one thing: It is Google.
I understand people who want to use Google, because they are rich and enough capacities to develope the best UIs.
I understand that some of you don't care about the data you leaves - but please don't forget that a monopoly is not good in any case, and we are talking about a monopoly with huge financial interest.
And yes, Google services are very good, but just the UI. The thing behind is just bad - they are a way better alternative services.
Keep in mind, that there are so many Android phones and on most of them is running a Google service, a monopoly with financial interest.
It is your decision if you stay with Google or not. But someone who care about the future and about his data should go away from Google.

lol. So you can give your data instead to all the other 3rd party companies who want to eak out every Dollar they can since they have so fewer users? Nothing is different except Google, Apple, MS, Amazon has to maintain far more responsibility. By handing your data to unknown persons from various smaller companies you have no idea whether your data is being used responsibly or not or even if it is safegaurded well (which it isnt). At least with Google or Apple you know exactly what it is used for and where it is stored (which in the case of Apple, it is stored with Google anyway).

GMail is not open source for example. Why should I trust a closed source more then a open source service?
And I prefer services where I pay with my money and not with my data. And the monopoly fact is still there.
I know it is not easy to prevent all data leaks, but it is possible to 99%.
At the moment it is not easy, because there are so much money interested companys, which will collect your data.
For example: Why do you use WhatsApp, when you are using eMail? This make no sense, because eMail is decentral and WhatsApp not.
So you suceed to use a decentral message service like eMail, but failed to do the same with your IM.
The french goverment understand this, thats why they switched to an good new IM open source protocol.
But is is your decision. You need to understand the whole thing. I can't decide it for you.
If you want you can send me your browser history via PM, thank you.

Then you shouldn't be using a Xiaomi phone with MIUI, read their Privacy Policy. Miui even has you accept different
privacy policies and user agreements for different BUILT-IN apps. It's ridiculous.
More on point; mostly every android based custom ROMs have you install Open GApps to use Google functions,
so simply don't do this. When setting up your device don't sign in with a google account. Then root your phone and
strip any leftover (if any, I'm not sure) packages from your device. I think this is the most non-Google you will get.
LineageOS would be the go-to ROM for you (and me).
Here is some more info for you: link

Thank you for your answer.
Which ROM do you use atm? There is not Lineage Support for the Mi 9 atm.
I have same. I dont want Google framework and services in my phone when Android is open source system. Its very difficult have good translated rom with MIUI and havent Google. I testing remove Google from MIUI.EU rom long time but all my tests failed and China rom is bad for losing translations, have bloatware and more.
I'm interested too, I've long dreamed of a Roma without Google services as it was not enough they also added covid-19 if you find a solution let me know, thanks.

Question Why is there no sign of a custom rom?

Has someone an idea why there is no sign of a custom ROM? I mean the phone is for a longer time on the market, we have a working TWRP and its the top of MI 11 lineup...
I would like too see custom ROMs because the original is full of annoying bugs.
Good question... there have been several threads now with a similar topic, none of them are being discussed thorougly. Try this one...
Lineage OS
Just a question for the future. Are there custom roms like Lineage OS coming for Mi 11 Ultra?
forum.xda-developers.com
I don't think custom roms will be easily doable on this device, especially the rear screen driver will be a pain in the ass
The rear display is almost useless. So i dont care about it. I mean, the display is from the watch but it can NOTHING. A whatsapp message will be showed for a few seconds, but i cant read it again. I cant check who called me (missed call), it doesnt work wit other messengers and so on.

The rear screen functionality or lack thereof is nearly the worst thing about the phone
The only time I notice it's there is when it makes my Spotify songs skip by accident...

Same here... I was reminded that the rear screen existed by accident. In addidtion to being utterly useless.
@xNAPx I'm not exactly sure about that statement. First off, there are devices that have an A/B-Partition-configuration and are running Lineageos and TWRP. Second, the Kernel and Vendor are available. Only extracting proprierity blobs might be an issue, meaning i might be unable to do it, but someone with more experience might be lucky. All in all, i don't see the problem with it.
Maybe it would be wise to think outside the box and try different solutions to get custom roms after all... maybe open up a donation pool for someone to look into it.
I don't have a mi 11 ultra but I find myself having kinda the same problem I have a note 20 ultra 5g we have twrp available but if you look at the development thread you won't find any custom roms. I honestly fear the custom rom community is dying out which is a shame as I think it's the best part of android..
Funny thing is,i f I go into the one plus 3/3t (THREE) thread, you still find updates for custom roms lol. A 5yo device.... (My previous phone before moving to Mi 11 Ultra)

Over the years it has become more troublesome to unlock bootloaders etc and install custom ROMs and root modifications and in the old days the apps weren't smart enough to know if your phone was rooted but now many of them can detect a rooted phone and won't work (especially finance apps)
There are ways around the problem but most people don't have the time because they just want a phone that works (and don't have time to data wipe and reinstall everything over and over)
I expect this to get worse as Google is going to prevent side loading apps from alternative sources with a new app signature policy I was reading about
Samsung have improved the android experience a lot, following companies like OnePlus w cleaner interface and more features work out of the box that used to need a custom ROM to enable

You're absolutely right.. It's a shame but it's going that way to be honest with my note 20 between hex theme engine and the goodlock app thingy from Samsung this is the first phone i've had in 10 years I didn't find a need to root (yet) so I guess we have that things working better out of the box
Well whatever they do, these companies always give phone full of bloated **** and ads. Even with root getting rid of some apps gives you bootloops. A custom ROM will always be clean and minimal. My latest AOSP ROM on One plus 3 was having only 170 apps and services in total, my Mi 11 Ultra over 300. I don't know why people use financial apps while you can do everything with your browser. But it is not this the point. At least someone with knowledge and experience could at least find ways to clean a stock ROM to AOSP or giving custom versions. I know there is Xiaomi.EU but it is based exclusively on China Version and also is plenty of stock services.
mi 10 ultra took awhile to get the first custom roms

I have been a member of this website for several years, back then there was a fibrant community of phone enthusiats and developers here. That doesn't appear to be the case any longer. Most stock roms today have many of the features that people used third party, custom roms for and fewer manufacturers today allow the bootloader to be unlocked. So with less demand, there are fewer devs.

Ads?
I haven't seen an ad yet...
You must be doing something drastically wrong
Any miui apps that eu ROM devs leave in could be removed and replaced with similar ones from the playstore, like calculator, calendar, dialer, sms messages, contacts, file explorer, gallery etc
These are all critical for a fully functional device but if you don't like them you can remove them via adb and add some that you prefer from the playstore
AFAIK, the kernel source code is indeed out so we're really just missing developers that own this phone. Unfortunately, I'm learning python and not android related coding so as much as I want to start to make a custom rom, I wouldn't be able to do so till I finished learning python.
This link seems to be a good start
EDIT: Crap. You're going to have to do this as well to create the device tree for lineage os

The Xiaomi, EU rom has all ads removed plus a majority can be disabled and if you root the phone, all can be disabled/removed. The stock EEA and Global roms have ads, but during the setup process, you can opt-out of getting them. All apps can either be removed or disabled using ADB command's. Also comparing the overall size of a rom from a old OnePlus 3 to a rom from the Mi 11 Ultra is totally unfair, as well as, unrealistic, as total size of a rom has nothing to do with the amount of bloat it may contain. Those extra files are because of the extra features in today's roms. They could be optimization/ram management files or dark mode/customization files or files related to the screen refresh rate, AOD, etc... All features that were unavailable in a OnePlus 3 era rom.
I would also like to point out that in order to do a well done custom/lineage rom, that person needs to have/buy the device or be donate to them and were talking about a expensive phone.
As a owner, I would be biases if i say i would be interested in this having custom roms, on the other hand its a phone that has a lot of potential and a lot of road for bug fixing stuff.
Luckily the same rom can be use for either Mi 11 Pro or Mi 11 Ultra since they share similarities and some model device name, and someone with the expertise goes for it.
i'm also sad there is no custom rom, just bought mi 11 ultra 3 days ago, and in process of unlocking it {china rom} with lots of crazy chinese lines that i didn't understand, if only china rom would automatically translate everything when i switched the language to english, i would prefer china rom because of the battery endurance it gives me. but chinese apps/bugs etc. is troublesome so im waiting 1 week to unlocked it and opt for global or eu rom instead.
Hope a clean rom like Elite rom with my poco x3 pro will also be available to mi 11 ultra.
I'm hoping for a pure Android ROM at some point. MIUI is not the worst and it actually has some nice features but it's too fancy. Just plain old Android like the Android One phones would be a nice choice to have.
Are you saying One UI is plain? It's a very good skin, but plain it's not.

Question Mi 11 Ultra ROM Selection

Device: Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra
Carrier: T-Mobile
Rom: Xiaomi.eu (12.5.4 Stable version)
So last year when I was unable to purchase a Samsung 21 ultra I decided to look at other devices and purchased the Xiaomi with the understanding that it was a good device and the .eu version ROM is relatively good. After having the device with this ROM on it for several months I find it overall lacking and wanting to switch to something else or just load the default Xiaomi Global ROM on it.
I've heard of other ROMs like Pixel Experience and LineageOS but when I try to research it I'm finding unreliable resources. Due to this I figured I'd ask a few questions here. After the questions I'll leave a pro cons list of the device and the ROM Version I've been using.
- Does changing ROMs change the bands used from a reception standpoint?
- Does anyone else have my device and used another ROM? If so what do you like about it.
- Does anyone have experience or know reliable sources to research other ROMs for my specific device?
- has anyone that used the .eu ROM switched to back to the original global version and did it change anything regarding battery life or all functionality with recent updates?
Pros:
-fast charging is amazing fully charged from less than 10% in 20 min or less
-best camera I've found on the market with more features than I you'd even think of!
-smooth functionality for native applications
-abundance if settings for security that while can be cumbersome give you a lot of choices about app access and how they interact (with other apps, home automation, etc)
Cons:
-battery life doesn't last more than 4-6 hours with use of light gaming even with settings turned mostly to power save
- .eu Google integration is very clunky and seems to conflict with devices natural system which leads to missed/texts calls, reception issues, delayed or poor integration with other apps like Android auto
- odd bugs happen where mutli screen will randomly turn on or keyboard in text apps (all of them) will randomly disappear and you either need to restart device or go through multi-step process to bring back up
-Too many security settings. While it's nice having higher levels of control it would be ideal to have the ability to set a default security level when downloading applications vs having to do make changes when you download or after the fact

Hi Elul,
First of all, you are on Xiaomi.EU very old version, SEARIOUSLY OLD, right now it is 12.5.20, which results in a very old review of your device, many things has changed.
I use this device since May, I am using global device with global rom (international version). there are different roms for this device as follows:
-international version RKAMIXM
- INDIAN version RKAINXM
-Indonesian version RKAIDXM
-Europe official version RKAEUXM
-Chinese version RKACNXM
-Euro rom (not official) which is RKACNXM modified
I've done a research on this device bands and there are different outcomes, CN and global are all using same bands. or that international version got different band coverage than CN. you can search online and you'll find same result.
I've checked on T-Mobile coverage online and you are covered mainly on everything missing 2 bands on 5G: https://www.kimovil.com/en/frequency-checker/US/xiaomi-mi-11
Check T-Mobile section.
As of my experience, my device is the international global version, I've switched to EU rom (not official) and tried it for about a month, and I regret it. switched back to the official global rom and since then device has improved by much. I found EU. rom is so buggy and battery drains really fast, even though i've removed bloatware which did not help. and memory management is pretty messed up. with global version i have late updates but very stable device, smooth, very good battery performance, camera is really nice (i know it is behind CN and Xiaomi.eu versions but still really good). so as of experience, i'd say official roms are best.
A bit of research in this forum and you'll find all possible roms you can install, and methods to install them, issues you might face and how to avoid, and it is really simple. spend a day of reading here and there in XDA and you'll be surprised of what information you can find.
Update your device to latest rom of EU version which you are on, and you'll eliminate a few Cons, and if you jump to global rom, you'll eliminate all of them except camera will fall a little behind (still not a Con, just falling a little behind CN version).
At least this is my experience (and a few others) with the device. other people might have different thoughts regarding how efficient is EU (unofficial rom).
hope this helps.

Thank you so much for the info. Can you tell me about the functionality difference between the .eu and current global version you've seen?
Specifically integration with Google apps (photos, auto, etc)

With global version, they come preloaded with google services, and set as defaults, (except for gallery, music player, and video player), that can easily be changed through settings to whatever app you have. but for me I replaced only gallery, even though gallery has some really great features which I use sometimes, but because all my photos on the cloud I have to stick with google photos. Video player is really good, music player I don't use since I use youtube music.
default search engine is google and no Chinese topics or wording anywhere at all.
all of useless MI apps are not installed by default.
Simply saying, a normal global device, not a Chinese one.

Oh lord. You need to update to the latest. EU rom.
12.5.20 contains fixes for all the things you mentioned, plus already features the Global Enhanced version tweaks to performance with refinements to make it even better.
If you switch to a Global stock rom on a China only variant, you'll loose the ability to use Google Pay and a lot of features so only do so if you're happy to lose out.
As your complaints stem from just not updating for months and months it's not something you'll solve changing roms, instead install the. EU rom update via TWRP.
I'm in the US on t-mobile with a china model flashed with the global ROM. you will not have access to 5G. It is however, very easy to root it and have no problems with google pay or any banking apps.

Hello, I have the Chinese version, which originally came already with the bootloader unlock and with the global version unlock. I really like the global version, but couldn't use a couple of my banking apps, I tried installing magisk and the fix to hidden it but for some reason the device wouldn't pass the safetynet test causing my device not to be certified and my bank apps not to work. Because of this I had to move to xiaomi.eu version, now it pass the safetynet test and all my bank apps work as expected but I really prefer the global version. Is there an easy way to install the global version but passing the safetynet test so my bank apps would work? Like I mentioned I tried different guides to install magisk and the fix to hide it but it wouldn't work, not sure if I did something wrong.

Use V1.2.0 of the SafetyNet fix. Not the latest version (2.2.1).
https://github.com/kdrag0n/safetynet-fix/releases/download/v1.2.0/safetynet-fix-v1.2.0.zip
Just remove the latest, reboot, then install 1.2.0

Question Vivo x70 Pro+, are you still happy with it ?

Hello,
I'm looking for a new android smartphone.
I'm hesitating between Google Pixel 6 Pro and Vivo X70 Pro+ ...
- What about the phone stability ?
- What about OriginOS, I've seen that a new version OriginOS Ocean) is coming soon ... ?
- What is your overall opinion on the phone ?
Thanks
Also I'm coming from Google Pixel 3, does the migration path is simple ? What about backup restoration (call/message history, contadts, calandars ...) ?

I'm answering to both questions regarding my user experience.
1) The phone is totally stable. Google apps work without problem except those which required to be installed as system (Android Auto, Hotword...)
2) Origin OS Ocean is coming before new year. Its functionality is basically advanced configuration known from IOS. We'll see its advantages and also whether it will spoil current performance. I use actual system with custom launcher and removed Chinese bloatware and my phone currently looks and acts as a pure Android.
3) My overall opinion is so far in favor of the phone. I like the system, camera, screen, stability and reliability together with some solutions limited to Chinese phones. Together with the constant improvements and pledge for 3 years system upgrade, I still believe that I get the best bang for the buck.
4) Migration is straight forward with the dedicated app either from Android or IOS.
5) You can have contacts, history and messages backed on Vivo account.
Hope I helped.

Exactly, I have the Chinese one. But I don't use Nova, I used to, but it doesn't suit my needs any more. It is full of options I don't need and lacks the ones I want. Now I use Star launcher Prime and yes, it supports gestures.

Thank you for your reply. Are you getting delayed notifications for apps? Is there a workaround?
Sorry, can't help you much with that. I don't use popular apps like Facebook, Instagram etc. Notifications for phone and messages I receive just in time as always on screen information. Same with signal but not as aos.
I use native mail app and it has minimum lag of 5 minutes by default. And I have to many mails to have notifications active for them.
Actually I hate notifications. They drain my battery and my time. Hence I use them as little as possible.
I just installed the OceanOS beta. I'm not a die-hard Android user, but I notice some nice improvements like a bigger box for grouped apps. There are a gazillion more improvements which I need to discover though, but yes, I am happy.

Hi..
I hope that am not to late for anyone want to pay vivo garbage smartphone.. i own the vivo x70 pro plus OriginOS (chainese version).. and i advise everyone want to purchase this garbage to wait and look for another device.. i will explain my 4 months experience with that garbage..
i will answer this questions first..
-What about the phone stability ?
The phone is awesome stable but vivo os will spoil your experience with the phone if you live outside the supported regions for the vivo x70pro+ whatever if its OriginOS or FunTouchOS..
- What about OriginOS, I've seen that a new version OriginOS Ocean is coming soon ... ?
I am on OriginOS ocean and it is worst than normal OriginOS in term of experience.. and full with Chinese letters and words even when you change the OS UI to English.. !! They can fix it as easy and translate it fully to English like in FunTouchOS but they didn't..
- What is your overall opinion on the phone ?
Everything is awesome except the OS experience its very bad compared to other brands i have used in the past like samsung and lg and pixel and OnePlus and oppo OSs.. if you are in outside supported regions you will not be able to register an vivo account with your phone number which will let you set some accessbelity needed permission to the installed apps or to install apps from third party apps to your phone.. without the vivo account you will not be able to do that.. and if you make vivo account just without phone number activation you will not be able to use some features and functions and you wil not be able to change your account name from Chinese to any other languages.. i can confirm setting up an vivo account is simply a nightmare..
When its come to notifications (Whatsapp Facebook Instagram snapchat telegram etc) is the worst smartphone ever and you will never get notifications in time or never. just for wechat its work perfectly..even when you remove or disabled the .pem app to fix notifications issues receiving notifications will be better a little bit just little bit but when you restart your phone google play store and YouTube will not work any more because you removed the stupid .pem app..
This phone had awesome hardware with a garbage software..
I have removed my SIM card from this phone and put it back in my older lg v50 since I can't use the x70pro+ as my daily driver.. i offered my vivo x70pro+ for sell tow weeks back and i didn't get any offers on it till today.. now i mainly use the lg v50 for social media and phone calls and the x70pro+ just for camera & gaming and watching YouTube.. if i sold the x70pro+ i will pay the pixel 7 pro for sure..
This x70pro+ garbage is not friendly user experience at all..

Yes there is by removing .pem app but when you remove it and restart your phone the play store and YouTube will not work anymore.. i tried many times by removing or disableing and even reset my phone many time and the same issues happened every time i remove or disable .pem garbage..
Even if you removed or disabled the pem it not a total fix for the notifications issues..

You can change the garbage vivo home launcher but is not easy as other brands OS.. and you will not be able to use the slide gesture in the navigation bar to jumb to the previous used apps in recent apps if u change the vivo launcher!!
Also you will get a stupid message everytime you restart or turn on the phone warning you the third party launcher is harmful!!
What a garbage..

It is possible but not simple at all..
Tend to disagree with the notifications. It takes some diving into the settings, but mine work fine for the apps I'm interested in. Whatsapp notifications even show earlier on my OriginOS Vivo than an Android One Motorola.
I bought mine simply for the camera which is awesome. The rest is of less importance. So take in mind what your main functionality is with the device and use that in making your decisions.

I didn't uninstall some Vivo apps that are usually removed, becauseI found them useful (mail, sms, docs...)
I don't have any issues after uninstalling com.vivo.pem as you may see in some others reports. I assume that they might remove something else important (part of the system architecture - launcher base?).
And I can confirm again that the phone is totally stable without issues at all.
Finally, I bought the right dongle to bypass the lack of Android Auto and there are no more shortcomings left for my mode of phone use. Yes, on AOS there are notifications only for phone and messages, others appears only on the home screen. But I don't feel deprived because of that. And Vivo is delaying with the Android 12, which is not a pattern but rather a consequence of the engagement with the Ocean. I believe that after 12 (Ocean 3) the upgrades will be more fluent and Vivo promised 3 full Android upgrades.
About the launcher: you have to enable "replace system launcher" in "more security settings" and set your custom launcher as default (in default apps). You may still see warning: use system launcher after resetting the phone now and then, but you simply cancel it.
I don't use Nova launcher, even I bought the prime license once. I use Star launcher prime which is lightweight and far more versatile. It suits my needs perfectly, and I can do everything I want in form of adaptations. And no issues, no china at all. Attached is my new home screen.
Okay thanks a lot my friend. I went thru the forums and found out how to delete the apps blocking my notifications and how to use the third party launcher lol. But still thanks for getting back to me cause I wanted to see the apps you uninstalled because I tried removing some apps and they won't leave. Like the imusic and the wallet app won't uninstall idk why.
As for the other guys having problems with his phone after removing the com.vivo.pem I don't have that issue at all I can restart my phone just fine and google play services work and everything so it unfortunate he's having such issues but my phone works great I love it and have no problems. Just waiting for Android 12 and I'll be fine thanks again buddy!
