V12.0.2.0.QFAEUXM Beta or Stable? - Xiaomi Mi 9 Questions & Answers

Hi all, I see there is an update listed on this page link V12.0.2.0.QFAEUXM.
Can someone confirm if this has been released as stable already? And if you received it, how is this an improvement over V12.0.1? I am holding on to V11 as I heard V12s initial release was not that well polished and strains the battery.
Thanks!

it's only security update for August

- I have received this OTA update and it's stable.
- Everything work's more or less stable, at least I didn't find any issue until now.
- What I have noticed is that Weather app is replaced with G version in his name and now one can update this app manually without previous notorious "authorisation" issue.
- Mi Global Browser is still there and still can't be uninstalled ( Failed [-1000] error in adb shell during uninstall).
- In Indian Forbes site I have seen that they will release update which will allow uninstalling MiBrowser and few other apps because Indian government have banned all of these apps.
- Battery life is a little better from previous ROM.
- There is no more stuttering in Chrome browser.
- That's my humble experience so far.

Thanks @Jehonan I think I may give it a shot then.

Cannot flash the update
I am on miui_CEPHEUSEEAGlobal_V12.0.1.0.QFAEUXM.
I did not get the OTA yet and my battery life is very poor so I am eager to upgrade, I tried to update manually from the updater to either files:
- miui_CEPHEUSEEAGlobal_V12.0.2.0.QFAEUXM
- miui-blockota-cepheus_eea_global-V12.0.1.0.QFAEUXM-V12.0.2.0.QFAEUXM
but I always get the "Sorry, flash to this stable version is not allowed".
Any ideas what is the problem?

Which update procedure did You follow?
Did You make folder on root of the internal drive, copied appropriate downloaded ROM inside this folder and start upgrade from there?

I went to the Rom version in settings. Cliqued on the 3 dots. Select rom to install. Then tried to import the files from download, root, dowloaded_roms folders. Same result: "flash to this stable version is not allowed".
With the same procedure I am able te reflash miui_CEPHEUSEEAGlobal_V12.0.1.0.QFAEUXM as much as I want. But no way to upgrade.
I also tried from recovery. But there is no option to flash update.zip.

Did You tried with OTA version of this update?
Same procedure, in root of the drive in downloaded_rom folder copy OTA update and start update from there.
Here is a link to ROM's.
P.S.
I believe that You must first go with OTA version of the firmware because of the downloaded ROM decrypting procedure. After that You can go with recovery type of ROM (full ROM upgrade).

Yes, I tried the update file as well.
Both files give the same error ("Sorry, flash to this stable version is not allowed"):
- miui_CEPHEUSEEAGlobal_V12.0.2.0.QFAEUXM_44dcb66933_10.0.zip
- miui-blockota-cepheus_eea_global-V12.0.1.0.QFAEUXM-V12.0.2.0.QFAEUXM-789914bb83-10.0.zip
I am able to flash V12.0.1 from the same site so I am sure to be on the right ROM:
- miui_CEPHEUSEEAGlobal_V12.0.1.0.QFAEUXM_4d28c84f58_10.0
Something else is preventing the upgrade.

Well, I found out that I needed to change the region settings from France to Belgium... now it updates.
How stupid!

Hi all, I'm having a strange behaviour after the update: the quick charge ( using a wireless charger ) isn't working anymore.
Does anyone have the same issue?

Has anyone tried this? Any feedback with performance and battery drain?
Sent from my ALE-L02 using XDA-Developers mobile app
My unit is l02 too. So far no lags and delay plus Good battery drain. "depends how you use your phone".
Battery is shorter for me (could be some Rogue app like Facebook)
Performance is much better, no more memory leak
Some UI annoyances fixed, like material navigation bar, Camera settings animation lag
Battery settings is worse, too many unnecessary sub-menus
Still no Music Equalizer, but there's a new DTS sound effect which enhances audio quality on good head/earphones
Overall its an update I highly recommend!!!
Has anybody found a successful root method for this build?

You need stock recovery and be unrooted to update OTA. You need to download from the links above and side load onto your phone.
Does anyone have a link to all the stock rom's?

Xiaomi MI5 pop-up adds

I hope I can get some help here. Today I started getting add pop-ups on my Xiaomi MI5 that's 3 days old. I installed a lot of applications, but they have all been previously installed on my HTC Desire 500 and my Nexus 7 and I never had any issues. The adds pop up after I unlock the screen, sometimes it's just a Home screen that's not responding (until I hit the Back button), sometimes it's a full add. Adds vary a lot and change from Pokemon training spam to Anti-spyware apps. On some adds it said it's sponsored by "StartApp". On one add there was an information button, so I got some message from "com.aqplay.mediation" about permission settings (nothing really relevant, couldn't uncheck anything anyways).
After scanning the phone with Avast, MBAM and Addons Detector, I got nothing. I also went through a crapload of forums looking for answers, tried to uninstall some apps that I installed today, but nothing helped.
In the end I noticed that the built-in application "File Manager" keeps ending up in my Recent Applications list, even though I never opened it. So I tried to stop and uninstall it, but with no luck. There is a process that looks suspicious so I would like to ask anyone to check if they have the same process on their device.
Under Settings - Installed apps - Running - File Manager there is a Service (second from the top) called "zdrhhriggx". Can anyone verify they have the same Service running?
Since it's a built in app, I can't Disable or Uninstall File Manager to be 100% sure, but so far I have found a workaround.
In the Security application I went to Data Usage settings - Data usage stats - System apps - File Manager and I disabled it's Mobile and Background data access. I am unable to turn off the WLAN setting for it though. But so far, no adds in the last 30mins.
If anyone has a good permanent solution to this problem (I know I can do a factory reset, but let's make that the last option) I'd be forever grateful.

Fake ROM
I believe you are correct, stupid of me not to check the ROM version. Thank you very much.
You are using Vendor Rom maybe . Unlock your bootloader and flash Official Rom . If you are using root . Install adaway to make some ads dissapear .
Same issue with ads and massive wlan battery drain (vendor rom from xiaomi.eu). unlocked it, flash the official and worked like a charm.

Yup, same here with the WLAN battery drain. But the adds stopped for some reason the last 2 days. I'm planning on flashing it, just not sure which procedure to follow. Can you please tell me if you had to Unlock the device through the MIUI website request?
I've found this thread to be helpful: http://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-5/how-to/xiaomi-eu-7-8-13-0-maacndb-t3412638
I'm just not clear on the difference between flashing with the fastboot update (MIUI flashing tool) or using Mi PC Suite with Full ROM?
Would you be so kind as to provide more precise steps on what you did to unlock and flash it?

hence i downloaded the Global ROM from Miui for 5s - 8.0.3.0 MAGMIDI "normally". now while trying this, it says "i am updating to a older version & all data will be lost". is it possible to really have a newer version on phone which isnt there in MIUI website?

Since we are assuming you are on a fake ROM with ads, I'd certainly flash the official ROM, no matter what the fake one says.

Thank you Guojaun for your timely help.
i successfully flashed to GLOBAL ROM.
while i was doing this, there was no folder called "Downloaded_rom" for the ROM to put, i created a folder & put the ROM there. then flashing will go through normally. no need of Fastboot or anything.
Now no ads or any sort of issues

Personally I think is not worth it. This is not final build and will delete data from your device. Then next one will show up in couple days or even (maybe) tomorrow. If I will you I will wait for around another 3-4 weeks to get more stable build.
Sent from my SM-N950U using XDA Premium HD app
I tried it -- the installation took about an hour in Recovery, mainly stayed in the "Patching system files". This install *WILL* wipe your phone (not your SD card though).
The build was super fast (even faster than a fresh Nougat flash).
There were two things that caused me to flash back to Nougat.
- The Wi-Fi was extremely weak. At my desk at work, I can normally see 6 Wi-Fi networks. 4 of them are in my office. With Oreo, I could only see two of them, and it struggled to stay connected to the one that I normally have full signal on.
- Also, my AT&T Gear S2 Classic could not be connected. Upon attempting to pair (after confirming the PIN on phone/watch) Samsung Gear gave a message stating that I need to ensure my phone was compatible and that I had the latest Samsung Gear app. I confirmed that there were no available updates for ANYTHING in the Play Store and Galaxy Apps. Both stores showed that my app was up to date.
If it weren't for those two issues, I'd still be on the Oreo build right now.
Another point -- I experienced my first freeze/reboot on this phone in Oreo. I've had the phone since June of last year and never had any freeze/reboot issues previously. Never dropped or gotten the phone wet, etc.
Hope this helps anyone who is wanting to flash the build!

You need to ODIN to 935A's latest build (BRA1) then you can upgrade to this Oreo build by flashing it in Recovery.

I face the same issues you have described. Originally after applying the Oreo update, I was not able to enable Bluetooth nor WiFi. I had to reboot to recovery and wipe cache.
Once that was done, I was able to get WiFi and Bluetooth to work.
I have the Galaxy Fit2 and was not able to sync watch to the phone with the same error you received. ( I tried the version 3..1.80.80109 of Samsung Accessory Service as suggested in another thread, no luck.)
WiFi as you described is pitiful, luckily I don't rely on WiFi as much so I will continue on with this Oreo build.
Does anyone know how to turn off the red heart rate sensor light off? It is accidentally turning on even if I dont get my finger on it after oreo update

Wifi issue meaning weak signals in Wifi connection on Oreo. I simply followed the steps in flashing through SD card and it took a while (40 mins or so) but eventually it went through the install.

Update 535 C00 has been pushed officially

If your HiCare region is not set to China, set it to China, then search for an update either in HiCare or Settings -> Update. You will then be eligible for the push.
Haven't tried other Asian regions, but it wasn't pushing to my device with Europe set in HiCare.
Speed, battery life and network performance seem to be significantly improved.
Thank you,
works very well your tip.

I'd also like to know this.
Also, if the bootloader locks again when doing/flashing an update, can the same old unlock code be used or do I have to request a new code?

Hi Letschky! How are you?
I'm still using the Honor Note 8 and love the size.
I was on B538 happily but something happened. I had to relock and unlock the bootloader (To write a new recovery. Seems after a few years it relocks while still showing "unlocked" in fastboot. So weird.) and I didn't know it would factory reset the thing. Then I couldn't unlock the bootloader because Find My Phone got turned on somehow, and the thing was bootlooping. So frustrating.
Anyway. There doesn't seem to be a way to get back to B538 anymore. Hisuite Proxy doesn't work for me. Have you tried it? With official Hisuite you can go to B359 and B528 then B539. I couldn't root B539 so had to settle for B528.
Now I'm contemplating updating all the way to B555 or whatever the newest is, and try to extract the boot.img and patch it with magisk. The only problem is, how the hell do I get a hold of boot.img? It seems TWRP for Oreo broke after B53X somewhere. They must have switched to a different partition configuration.
Now I'm on B528 and battery life isn't great but I did get root and xposed to work.
I can't figure out where official Hisuite is downloading the firmware update. Do you know? It's not in /data/media/0/HwOUC/ which some people report.
Cheers! /Mike

Unpack with Winzip and flash via Fastboot
fastboot flash ramdisk magisk_patched-25205_hnSnL.img

You sir are a life saver! Is this on 555?
I would like to share something I found with you, if I get it to work on 555. On B538 I used a custom stock rom wanmei, and in it there's a config app called Mobile. There are TONS of features but for me only ONE feature that's been really freaking useful to me. It's to disable the temp sensor. It enables full speed charging. Stock charging often slows down to 1200mA but with this it blasts 2700mA until 80% (I use BatteryChargeLimit anyway to stop at 80-85%). I've been charging like this for years and no battery degradation. That's why I want to stay on B528 or B538 where this app works. I want to try it on B555 too.
Also. I have found that the default CPU governor isn't "interactive" on the slower cores. Only on the faster ones. Setting this to "interactive" gives a nice battery and speed boost compared to performance/conservative/ondemand. This app Mobile can set the governnor too. Mobile requests root access upon first launch. I hope it works on 555 too, after I extract it from the system/app on my B528. I remember after B538 it became a PAID app. You had to pay the developer like 20 usd to activate it. Sneaky. Anyway, I have the free one I can share with you.
Here they are if you're interested.
These are all the custom folders I could find in system/app. The app itself is only the Hwsystemmobile folder but I don't know if it has dependencies in the other ones.
Been using this for years. Took me a long time to translate. The setting I love is at the bottom of the screenshot. ”核心温控“ turn that on. From the main menu you first need to enter the sub page ”其他功能“ (other functions).
In ”其他功能“ you can also set the cpu governor etc.
Yes for 555.
Have you a Link or can upload the wanmei rom?

It actually works to flash this over a stock B528 even though it's meant for B538. The system remains B528 but Mobile works normally without bugs. I've used it for a week now as a daily driver.
It's possible to revert to B528 using official Hisuite. Gotta go to B359 first.
Let me know if you manage to get anything to work. I used to get 8h screen on time on B538. I miss that. With B528 I seem to get like 5h. Terrible.
How's 555?
Other features Mobile has are things like enabling VoLTE, enabling RAM compression, gaming modes, hiding status/nav bars, disabling automatic updates, etc.
I do seem to have more free RAM on B528. I never saw 2.4GB free on B538 but on B528 I did. I'd still take the better battery if I had to choose one.
ok thank you, (Downloading)which Twrp to use to install this Rom?The is Multilanguage?
555 is not bad,i use it since the Update..4,5 Hours SOT in almost three days of use
Ok i flash directly via DLOAD Method from 555 to 528.The next Update is 539 and not 538.You say it works on 528?Works this rom on 539?

Hi! I live in China so sorry for the late reply.
You flash that wanmei firmware in fastboot. There's a bat file (to run the bat you need to set windows language settings "Non-unicode" programs default language = Chinese simplified). Yeah it works on B528. I don't know how but it works. I'm using it since a few days.
In B539 if you try to flash it fails when flashing system.img. I suspect the names of the partitions changed around B539. Boot.img is flashed to "ramdisk" now, not boot. This is also why twrp doesn't work right I think.
Are you using a working twrp in 555? I tried flashing one oreo twrp.img dated July 2018 (the newest I could find) and it can't get write access. The log is just full of errors.
4.5h SOT on 555 oh nooo. I'll still try it and see what I get. If this is really the case i'll pay a chinese shop to get me back to B538. They said they can.
How about available RAM? After a reboot, can you see more than 2.0GB free in Recent Apps?

Question Is there a way to force/download OTA updates?

Ok guys, I'm new to MIUI so please be gentle
So I'm on stock MIUI 12.5.4 global (RKAEUXM) but there is a 12.5.6 out (also RKAEUXM).
I have no intentions of rooting etc. and I wonder if there is a way to download/force just the OTA?
Is saw the Google answers where it says set region to India etc, but that does not work (also tried with vpn)..
Anyone know how to do this?
Thanks!

Hey thanks for taking the time to answer my question..
Your first link brings me to a blank page with only an add for MIUI community app.
Your second link shows a download page which doesn't show a version, only says "global" and actually also say "modified copy" in Chinese.
So yeah, I'm not going to just risk that if you don't mind...

You can upgrade your phone by Local Update method without unlocking your phone. The method suits for the situations listed below for sure: Update to Global Stable ROM from Global Stable ROM, Update to Global Beta ROM from Global Beta ROM, Update to Global Beta ROM from Global Stable ROM and vice versa. If you encounter the issue that the reboot page keep loading for a long time after flashing, you can choose to wipe all data via entering Recovery Mode. You can turn off your device and then hold both Volume+ button and Power button at the same time to enter Recovery Mode.
STEP 1Download the latest MIUI ROM file Click here to download
There is no need to do it again if you’ve already downloaded the latest ROM file.
STEP 2Connect your device to the Windows PC/laptop via a micro USB cable, and copy the ROM file downloaded in Step 1 into the folder ‘downloaded_rom’ in the internal storage of your device.
STEP 3Launch ‘Settings’ app on your device, select ‘About phone’, click ‘System update’, then press ‘three dots’ icon at the top-right corner, and select ‘choose update package’ to enter. Choose the ROM file you’ve put in ‘downloaded_rom’ in Step 2.
View Image
STEP 4After choosing the right ROM file, your device will begin upgrading. Your device should automatically boot to the new version when the update is completed.
Go to system update->tap on the main icon 5/6 times, this will unlock hidden settings->now download manually from trusted websites like mifirm the RECOVERY version of YOUR rom. ->go then to update again and select on the three dots at the up right "choose update package"

If nothing works, try changing the region: belgium.
There are some fix for errors like that, check it out
This video shows a way how to do it:
Can't confirm if this is the best/official method, but it seems easy.
Ok guys thanks! I was able to update without issues.
I was hoping it would fix a bug I face with setting custom ringtones, but it didn't.. very annoying..
But thanks anyway! I'm on latest stable now..
