How does the third-party app know the phone is on 5G?

(My very first post, very sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this question.)
I am trying to write an app to support 5G-specific function, but cannot figure out how to detect the phone is on a 5G network. Android Q added a new network type, NETWORK_TYPE_NR, but it is not available in Android Pie. The just-released Samsung S10 5G is running in Android Pie yet has fully supported 5G function. It also has a 5G icon to indicate whether the phone is on 5G or not.
So how does it do that? Is it possible for the third party-app to know whether the phone is on 5G or not?
Any help (or tip, hint et al) is appreciated! I looked at the Android open source code but there is no mention on 5G on the Pie branch.

Can't install GCam and Can't block hotspot connections on redmi 9C.

I have recently purchased Redmi 9 in India (known as 9C worldwide). Facing some issues and asking for solutions as a new member here:
1. Since this model (M2006C3MII) has a basic 13 mp camera, I am trying to install GCam. Camera2Api seems to have been enabled. I have enabled all the settings, still facing "App not installed" problem. Have tried with 5 different GCam apk files.
2. My previous redmi mobile (3S) has the option to view and block the devices connected to the mobile's hotspot. This redmi 9C seems to not have this option! (it's running on MIUI 12.0.12)
3. I bought the 9C having MIUI 12.0.10. I can't remember distinctly, but it seems this version had the option to keep the internet connection active on sim 1 while I was having a phone call on sim 2. Now that I have updated to 12.0.12, whenever I get a call on the 2nd sim, the net connection on sim 1 is halted. Correct me if I am wrong here.
Please enlighten me with the above issues!

Question "Device incompatible with network" When trying to activate Find x3 Pro at Metro by t-mobile

As the title says. I went to my local metro by tmobile store to activate my new Find x3 Pro but was unable to due to the device not being compatible with metro. The x3 pro that I'm trying to activate is the chinese rom version that I purchased on ebay (if that matters)
Has anyone else have an issue like this?
Hi - I am in the same boat as you. I just bought a Oppo Find x3 Pro for my girlfriend and was amazed to see its IMEI fail the T-mobile checker. My Vivo x60 pro plus is allowed. That is odd since Oppo's parent company also makes the OnePlus which is offered by T-mobile so it can't be anything hardware related. It even has a few more Bands than my Vivo has.
I was worried about my Vivo since VoLTE wasn't provisioned but got lucky when I updated to the new Origin2.0 OS (Ocean)
So the hope is that once the Oppo Find x3 Pro is allowed to update to the new ColorsOS 12 that maybe it will be able to provision?
When I updated my Vivo, I got a prompt that said 'You aren't enabled for VoLTE yet, you want to enable it?' So once I hit yet, it set it up and it works great.
One worry is that the code I was using to check my Vivo was *#*#4636#*#* didn't do anything on the Find x3 Pro. Are there other codes for the Oppo?

Question NE2215 on Tmobile slow internet speed after OTA update

Hi all,
long story short, I order a oneplus 10pro NE2215 on aliexpress (oneplus store) and I'm on the t-mobile network. when I first received the phone I checked the 5G internet with speedtest.net and the speed was perfectly fine at 300-500mbps but one day I did an OTA update and now my internet speed has throttled to ~30-40mbps, but the upper corner still shows 5G network. I try changing the access point but no relief and T-mobile even locked the access point to prevent further modification to the access point. nothing else was done to the phone, not rooted, no bootloader unlock, no VPN, baseband version Q_v1_p14, android version 12 (no clue which os I'm on), android security update July 5, 2022. any help would be greatly appreciated!
Same here. 2215 on newest A.16 on TMo, 5G speeds are crippled now...44 down, 13 up. Hope they fix this ASAP!
Without MSM, is there a way to downgrade to A.15?

Rollback package but it'll wipe your data
Android 12 Rollback package
If you have a NE2210 phone flashed to NE2215, can you use the Rollback package in the following thread to flash and convert to NE2213? I think maybe not but wondering if someone has tried...

thank you for pointing us in the right direction, is there a way to find out which version (US IN EU) the orignial os was on or do we try out all of them and hope for the best?
do we need to factory reset prior to performing this rollback? (to prevent possible bricking)

Rollback is mandatory for A.15,
You've to download two packages A.12 then A.15 to Stay on A.15
Because After Downgrading it only shows A.16 the latest in System Update

NA: NE2215
EU: NE2213
IN: NE2211
Edit, I am going for it. In the link above, someone confirmed it works to go from NE2215 to 13. Also, found something interesting about the bands on NE2215 A.16. Will post here with the details after the wipe, rollback, and conversion
Wow, that totally did the trick! Un-rooted, wiped, rolled back and converted at the same time from NE2215-A.16 to NE2213-A.12, then upgraded to NE2213-A.15, boot patched, rooted, rebooted. Easy
In the screenshots, compare the signal strength on the LTE bands, and also notice that on NE2215-A.16 my status bar said half strength 5G but LTE Discovery clearly shows no 5G active and half strength 4G. Also, my 40 Mbps speed was consistent with 4G speeds for my area...I think the status bar is actually reflecting 4G but still says 5G.
In the NE2213-A.15 screenshot, you can see my status bar shows full strength 5G, and improved LTE, and actually active 5G bands that match the signal strength in the status bar!
Finally, doing a speed test on NE2213-A.15 I got my expected 100 Mbps (for my area). I think A.16 nuked the 5G modems or something, above my paygrade.
Very happy with the results considering the hassle of having to re setup my phone. Thanks for the advice everyone. Hope this helps others! Thanks for posting @Jayzak25

I'm thinking it might've been a NE2215 A.16 issue, my device was also a NE2215 and I converted to NE2213 but I'm on A.16 and my 5G has only gotten better, here's a speed test https://www.speedtest.net/my-result/a/8687630956 I'm on Metro by T-Mobile which is a T-Mobile mvno and have had no issues, but I never tried NE2215 A.16 because I converted to NE2213 for many reasons including the access to more bands and actual full zips on updates.

Thanks for the intel! I was actually thinking while my phone was stock I should have tested NE2215A16 just to see before I converted to 2213, but now that I have your report it is encouraging to know that the 2213A16 version does not have those issues. Might actually contemplate jumping to 2213A16 now. Thanks again for chiming in, very helpful
Question out of curiosity: was there never access to full OTAs on 2215?

The only full OTA was the one provided in the open beta 2 post, other then that it's been incrementals for NE2215 which made me switch over for root purposes etc.
sorry for the late response guys, unfortunately rolling back to eu13 didn't work, and I even tried that os 13 beta, and that didn't work either, and the home button doesn't work either, any other suggestions?
