GMS (Google Mobile Services) on P40 Pro 10.1.0.154 - Huawei P40 Pro Guides, News, & Discussion

Hello guys!
After I updated my P40 Pro to 10.1.0.154, Google Mobile Services not working, so I had to reset my phone.
No more GMS.
I only need Android Auto.
Any new solution to install GMS or a modified Android Auto?

Which method did you use to update? Which method had you followed for gms and when?

hi, first You have to downgrade to 131. After that You can update but .... sometimes ( once a day) You have to uninstall Google Services ( clear data ect. ) and install again, same with Google framework ( clear data, stop service, uninstall and install) sometimes You have to do it only one time, sometimes few times. However when google Play magicly discover that You have old google services Play stops working, but everything else work ( gmail, calender, youtube, android auto, ect.) And this is my question, yestarday I've discovered that when I install new google services everything is working but I get info about not certifie phone ( this device is not google certify ). Has anyone discovered method how to avoid this ?

The only workaround I found is to freeze gsf and only unfreeze when I want to update all apps in play store. When frozen, everything works properly except playstore, yet no any errors and push notifications work fine.

Thanks!

Unfortunately freezing has to be done via pc. Unfreezing can be done from the phone. But I do it once a week at the office so no prob.
I am using multitool 8 software to do that. If you need instructions let me know.

Yes, please. You can PM me if there is a link with instructions on how to do it.
I have no problem freezing/unfreezing from pc every week to check for updates. Push notifications are more important.
Thanks a lot!

-You can download the tool here
https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8/development/tool-huawei-multi-tool-team-mt-t3523923
Sorry I do not have the app on front of me so the description will be vague..
-After you install it you connect the phone to the pc
-you might be prompted that the phone is not compatible with the tool, however when you connect it in 'transfer files' mode the tool will recognize the device
-after you see the device data in home screen you go to modifications tab
-in the middle of the screen it says show system processes, you find android gsf on the list and just click disable
-that's it!
The enabling part can be done directly from your device settings.

Thanks a lot buddy! Now whatsapp notifications are working, but not Gmail. Does Gmail or Youtube notifications work for you? Or do I have to use another email app for gmail?
Sorry for all these questions, have had my p40 pro over 2 months now, I really want to start using it....:fingers-crossed:

Youtube notifications work, dunno though if there is any delay on them, I am only receiving notifications from my subscribed channels..
Gmail notifications are the only ones not working properly, meaning there is a big delay on the notification.. I would put my Gmail in the email app of the phone, or even outlook (outlook works for sure coz I am receiving maybe 1000emails per day at work hahah)
That aside, all other Google notifications work, I am being notified for weather, news, etc..
The only thing I cannot make work is the usual Google cards feed which I was used to in my previous phone (by swiping to the left home screen)

May i suggest to try out IceBox, (with shizuku to replace root) for this purpose. I don't have the phone myself, but reading this it seems perfect for exactly this.
Shizuku can allow apps like IceBox and AppOps to function without the need of root or manual adb actions, and IceBox allows you to automatically freeze apps after usage again and launch them from the homescreen icon directly, automatically unfreezing it and freezing it again after you stop using it.

Nah, IceBox just needs a method to access the secure settings. This can be done with either root, Island delegated god mode or shizuku.
Root is out of the picture for huawei, island would be relatively easy to setup since huawei does not use the multi-user interface AFAIK. Minimal chance of data loss.
Shizuku just need developer options enabled and Wireless ADB enabled if you want to use it without a pc, or alternatively just over a regular usb/ADB connection. I'm using IceBox on my stock OnePlus 8 Pro with shizuku. Never lost any data and took like 30 seconds to setup, no pc involved

[HOW-TO] Unlock FB Contact Photos in 3rd Party Apps (Root Required)

I've been seeing a lot of posts from people complaining about how their FB contact photos don't appear in 3rd party apps such as Messaging or Google Voice. I've attached an APK that will alleviate this issue. Root access will be required and should work in both Sense and AOSP ROMs. For more information about the APK, check out the link below.

Did you grant it root access? Try going into SuperSU and resetting the default action for the app. What ROM are you on? I'm using Badboys and it's working fine.
I got it to work, Google and Facebook were syncing my contacts like crazy. Thanks for posting this!

Try rebooting your phone (so that no other apps are accessing your contacts database) and run photo unlocker really quick.

I didn't even notice there was an issue with contact photos until I saw this thread.
Anyway, this didn't work for me, either. I tried the same things, multiple times. No dice.
I decided to install HaxSync instead and now everything is fine. Its a paid app, but works great. I bought it a long time ago for my Moto Photon, when it couldn't sync contact photos with Facebook on CM9.

Huawei p20 pro chrome freezing

Brothers, I am getting desperate, my flagship is not functioning properly.
What is the problem?
Since 2 weeks ago, Chrome started freezing in all instances, when opened directly, when opening a link from any app, when clicking tiles in google (also google app freezes some times)
How I tried to solve it?
Restarting phone
Clearing cache
Giving all permisiions to all google apps
Reinstalling the system (with backup)
Reinstalling the sistem (clean install)
Upgrading to EMUI 9.1 and updating Chrome (today I got an update)
Absolute nothing is working, Chrome is freezing like clockwork, for example when I scroll a page, it lets me scroll 1-2 screens then freezes or freezes from the beginning or would just not open , freezes in the loading page screen. It freezed even when the phone was loaded only with the basic apps, after reinstalling.
I was thinking of buying the Mate 30 pro or the P30 pro but now I am very seriously doubting I would.
All other apps are working, now when I want to browse I copy the link from Chrome to Firefox (usually it would not freeze right away after opening a link and it is letting me copy the wep address) but one can imagine that is not OK.
Please...someome with the same problem and/or a solution?

Try beta or canary to see if the problem persists. Check dev options and change the WebView option to either chrome stable or whatever version you want to test.

Thanks a bunch for the answer, I installed canary but it would not let me change the WebView implementation , it says "the choice is no longer valid, try again later" although both chrome and canary seem to be available. What I changed tho, is the "enable mulți process WebView" toggle, which is now active and it seems to have worked, at least atm.

Yes, beta option was available, with the same message when I tried to enable it.
No change anyway after I toggled that in developer options , all chrome instances keep freezing the same way.
I installed microsoft launcher and use Bing now as a search engine and when I want to open a link from gmail II copy-paste it in Firefox.
So annoying.

Question [SOLVED] Google Account Syncing not working using Mobile Data

Hey folks,
just got my X60 Pro+ from china. This is a really nice device, really like it so far.
But I'm having trouble when setting up my Google Account, I can't seem to sync them using mobile data. Turning my WiFi on, it syncs my EMails automatically and so on. I really searched the entire Settings library and this weird iManager app, but I can't find any Data restrictions whatsoever. It doesn't even let me sync it manually in the "Accounts and Syncronisation" settings menu, only with my WiFi.
Does anyone know how to fix this? I really searched everything and everywhere.
Greetings
Update 23.04.2021 : Vivo has fixed the Sync issue with an Update. Updating Google Webview and other Google Apps is also helpful, if the problem might still exist.
I do believe it's related to the Vivo.com app, you need to use script in order to remove it
I had X50 Pro Plus and faced the same issue.

It's com.vivo.pem to uninstall on x50 pro plus forum. There are positive feedback about it. Not in my case
Yeah right, I also did that but no success. I've sent an EMail to Vivo Support, lets See.
My guess is, there is the "WiFi Only" toggle switch "missing" in the "Account & Sync" Settings tab.

Any chance I can use Chrome as default? I hate this chinese default browser, opening all links. And thanks for the solution, I'll try that

There you go.

I finaly get it working, but I don't know exactly how because I did a lot of action :
- uninstalled vivo apps via dev usb
- granted all permission possible to Outlook
- disabled smart notification
- changed the default system sound
- updated everything I found.
I don't know what was the problem, because it was really not syncing : mails was appearing only when opening the apps and waited for few sec to sync.
Hope it helps.

I didn't uninstall any apps but I changed my dns (google ones) with an app thanks to caeanlin it works !
it's been several weeks i'm in contact with vivo france because this is a whole syncing problem, concerning also emails (when i want to add some documents), and especially navigators and spotify (spotify still not working, even with the dns)
so the guy from vivo france took all my info and i send him this page that he transfered to vivo global (or china)
he said the guys will react quickly about this

Question Google play doesn't work after update

Hi everybody,
following an update of my smartphone today via OTA, google play and youtube no longer works. Do you have any idea where it might come from?
FYI, a few weeks ago I deactivated a good number of applications via ADB but I had no problem so far.
Hi tomtom34,
Have you tried setting your timezone and date manually? Sometimes this can help. I just got the update but have not encountered any issues yet.

I've noticed this too! I had to put back com.vivo.pem for it to work, but it seems to work if you do manual sync of google account, clear google play cache, reboot 2 times then open google play and wait a few moments, then it springs back into life and with com.vivo.pem disabled (the way we like it).
Strange, I know, happened again today after another nighly update.

Google seems to have settled down but since updating to OceanOs notifications are much worse. I had working before (not perfectly) WhatsApp and FB Msg notifications but it seems even with pem removed, app permissions set and batt optimisation for apps set it is still deciding to close apps.
Perhaps it's iManager? (We cant disable that now) or whatever app tells us it's closed this.. or blocked pop-ups from that.. But I feel that is prob iManager.
Is there a specific reason vivo app should be removed?

Notifications working ok now, I had not realised the basic notification setting in the app(s) were set to none (No chat notification at all) So many settings.... anyway, wasn't an OceanOS issue.

Did you ever experienced google disconnection after firmware update: I mean after an official update (2 in this month) Google Play Services seem to "freeze" (no notifications from apps) and if I try to disconnect my Google account I cannot login again for a variable period of time (Google server unreachable).

Question Unable to view or download gmail attachment

Hello, I recently found out I can't view and download gmail attachments on my Oppo phone. I recalled I can view and download them before, so this must be recent development (possible after c.46 update?)
I also find out I can't download from Google photos and Google drive.
I did everything that is suggested by the internet, clear cache on GMS, playstore, etc.. to no avail.
Upon searching the internet, I came across similar problems with OnePlus devices: oneplus problem
and since OnePlus is part of Oppo, the problem may be related.
Has this also happens to anyone here? Do you have any work around of how to make this work?
Uninstall gmail update and use the factory load version.
On Samsung's I always use the factory load versions for gmail and gmaps because the updated ones suck. Google screws up everything... just give them time.

I tried that, but still can't download attachments that way.
Turned out the OnePlus user figured out the problem here
It is the Clone App feature. I unfortunately did a factory reset on my phone, and Gmail attachments downloaded fine, but as soon as I cloned an app, in this case WhatsApp, I can no longer download from Google Apps.
I always have been using 2 WhatsApp on this phone, and I have downloaded loads of attachments from Gmail with no problem before. I suspect the issue is on the latest software update.
The workaround is to switch to guest mode, and switch back, then its normal again. You don't have to delete the cloned app. One user from that OnePlus forum said if you reset your phone, then download failed again.. but I haven't tried resetting my phone since.
I hope they fix this on the next update

Turned out the OnePlus user figured out the problem here

Yay.
Weird modes create weird problems.
WhatsApp is pure malware, I never go there and it would never be installed on any of my devices.
Better get while the gettings good...

I have the same problem.
I already did a faactory reset and it worked, but upon setting the phone again it started to fail on donwloading from Gmail/Google Photos... maybe when I cloned WhatsApp.
Will switch to Guest and turn back, to see if it works.

Unfortunately a factory reset doesn't ID the root cause of the problem, so it can reoccur.
WhatsApp is trashware... what could go wrong?
Try completely uninstalling WhatsApp.
If that doesn't work it may have permanently altered hidden user settings, one of the the hallmarks of a poorly written app. Really it's acting like malware by locking out another app's functionality if so.
Factory reset and do a clean load from scratch. Be careful what you install or you'll be doing it again!
Just because an app is Playwhore approved doesn't make it compatible or even safe!

Switching to Guest and switching back to my user does the trick... for now!
Maybe this issue will be solved in the next update.

Thanks for your information.
I have been searching for the workaround for last 10days as even Oneplus Support could not provide any workaround.
The workaround to switch to guest mode, and switch back to Original User temporarily solves the issue. However, If we reboot the device, we have to follow the same procedure again.

I have put c47 and it works for one time only. If you need to access twice you can't view or download archives. ¿Do you know another action to do? Sorry for my English.

After updating to c47 the problem continues.
But switching to guest and returning to my user solves the problem... just tested and downloaded multiple files.

It didn't work for me.Thanks.
Well, I managed to get it to download the gmail attachments again. I have uninstalled the double application (in this case whatsapp), I have restarted the mobile, and reinstalled. The first time the whasapp installation failed, the second time it didn't and magically it re-downloaded the attached files.
It is seen that there is a problem with app cloning in this operating system.
After update to C47 enable permission to storage in gmail app, then files will be down!
Update: issue come back, not know why!
2nd update: after update the firmware to C60, problem solved!
