This is my first walkthrough so I will do my best to do this properly. The Honor Note 8 does not have a forum yet, and this is the third thread for this phone. Hopefully we can get a forum up soon.
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNLOCKING BOOTLOADER WILL WIPE YOUR DEVICE AND POSSIBLY VOID YOUR WARRENTY!!!
I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE IF SOMETHING DOESN'T WORK.
Unlock Bootloader
Follow the steps here to begin the Bootloader Unlock process:
https://www.dc-unlocker.com/how-to-read-huawei-bootloader-unlock-code
1. a) Install the application
1. b) Follow the steps on the above page to put phone into "Manufacture Mode"
1. c) Under "Select Manufacturer", choose "Huawei Phones" and under "Select Model", choose the model of your phone
1. d) Click on "Buy Credits". You should end up being emailed a username and password, return to the Unlocker Client, and input those two
1. e) The Unlocker Client should return the bootloader unlock code
2. a) Enable Developer Options by clicking on the build number multiple times
2. b) Turn on USB Debugging
3. Prepare TWRP custom recovery before preceeding further. You can get it from here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B4xzs81XsmURVTRnUDJHdl9CQlE
3. Prepare and install ADB and Fastboot tools. I used this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979
4. Go into the folder with your recovery and open a CMD (if you used system-wide ADB as linked above, otherwise place recovery in your ADB folder)
5. Put the phone into Bootloader mode with:
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
. This will take you to the bootloader mode (white screen with some small text)
6. Now type:
Code:
fastboot oem unlock <UNLOCK_CODE>
where
Code:
<UNLOCK_CODE>
is the bootloader code that the Unlocker Client gave you
Loading TWRP Custom Recovery
7. Your phone may reboot when the process is complete. We want to go back into Bootloader mode, so follow Step 5 again to go back to bootloader mode
8. Now type:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery <NAME_OF_YOUR_RECOVERY.img>
The recovery will flash over to your device. We want to reboot into the recovery mode.
9. Now type:
Code:
fastboot reboot
but just before you hit ENTER on that command, start holding VOLup and VOLdown at the same time (as explained below)
This phone has two recoveries on it, which is great since it makes it really hard to brick. In order to access custom recovery, you need to hold down both VOL buttons during boot process (from the very beginning) in order to access the custom recovery.
Once you have entered TWRP, you will most likely notice that it is in CHINESE. If you don't read chinese, follow the steps below to change to English UI in TWRP:
Change to English UI in TWRP
10. TWRP has two columns of 4 buttons, 8 buttons total. I have labeled the buttons as per their position as below:
1 2
3 4
5 6
7 8
11. Click button 6 to go to the Settings, then click on the "Globe" icon, then switch to english and click the button in the bottom right corner.
BACKUP!!
12. I highly recommend you now do a TWRP backup and place the backup on an External SD card (not the internal memory). This will save your ass if you mess anything up or it doesn't work for you. Do a full backup (select ALL of the options).
Installing Xposed
Grab the Installer APK here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3034811
and the Framework zip here: http://dl-xda.xposed.info/framework/sdk23/arm64/
Put both files onto your SD card.
13. Boot into your rom, install the APK file (you may need to enable "unknown sources")
14. Then boot back into TWRP. Do this by restarting the phone, and just as the screen goes black, hold down both VOL buttons until you see text on the screen.
15. Install the framework, wipe cache/dalvik and reboot the phone
ROMs
There are several roms, all of which can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/general/huawei-honor-note-8-roms-t3487575
I will try to update this post with instructions on how to install them once I have the process down properly.
Thanks to:

Thank you man, worked like a charm! I got the bootloader code... but since it's gonna wipe everything if I unlock it, I'm gonna wait until the next weekend most probably, too busy these days.
Hi guys,
i was able to unlock the bootloader but i can't flash the recovery and every time i try it display "remote: command not allowed".
Good morning.
I hope for Christmas to be a holder of Honor Note 8.
To unlock the bootloader you need to pay 4 euro through dc-unlocker.com program?
Thank you

TWRP - changing language
OP - thank you for this thread. Was able to follow the steps and get most of the things accomplished.
One thing that i am having trouble with is - changing the TWRP language from Chinese to English. In button #6, the globe icon is not even clickable. All others are, but that one is not. Any ideas? Thanks!
EDIT: I got it to work. It seems some icons in the corners of the screen can be a little hard or slow to respond... if you (a future reader) are having the same issue - try kind of mini swiping in circles over that icon and it will eventually respond.
Hi,
I requested the unlock code on the Huawei site but I get this error:
The Huawei ID used to apply for the unlock code has not been used on the device for more than 14 days.
How can I do?

unlock the bootloader (Unofficial free way)

While searching for a way to unlock the bootloader i found a way
Hello. Instructions for unlocking the bootloader.
-------------- Responsibility for your bricks I do not take over. Everyone does at their own peril and risk .--------------
Downloa ( Google)
1) Install the driver for the phone (in the header);
2) Install a special driver, find it in the Unlock_BootLoader \ Driver for Winwos \ DriverSetup.exe folder;
3) It is necessary to unwind the phone, remove the cover;
4) It is necessary to disconnect the battery;
5) It is necessary to close the contacts (Photo);
6) Connect the phone to the PC;
7) Open the program Unlock_BootLoader.exe, there is a menu at the top, the item: "Operations> Settings> You need to select the Unlock_BootLoader.xml file"
8) After selecting the Unlock_BootLoader.xml file, click "Operations" again and click Start. Or press the green play button.
9) Done. Now you have TWRP_Mod installed in the Recovery section.
Additionally
The method works both with a locked bootloader and an unlocked bootloader. The only difference is that how to use this program at the moment when the bootloader is unlocked, then you do not need to disassemble the phone and put it into TEST POINT mode.
If the bootloader loader, then the program flashes TWRP_Mod.img to the Recovery section. After flashing, the phone will automatically reboot and the bootloader will remain locked. But TWRP_Mod.img will work. If you need a full unlocking of the bootloader, then you need to prepare several other files. There was no time for that. I made the method only for flashing custom recovery.
In the video, my bootloader is unlocked. I had a chance to block the bootloader and delete all data, so I made a video with the unlocked bootloader.
With a locked bootloader, exactly the same thing, the only difference is that you will need to switch the phone to TEST POINT modeYoutube video
All thanks Goes for SergeySan27 for his work...

This is 100% not working. Pls dont waste your effort
Wow
Specific what version of Pie do you have on Honor Play?
can u also tell if we have a method by which we can unlock our bootloader. If its possible using this technique then we can have development for our device. More people will be available to use the roms.

I know lot of people already know but for everyone else's clarification Test Point or EDL Mode requires physically opening the phone and shorting 2 electric points together something like the following video.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8salW6m-z8
I do not know exactly where those 2 point are on honor play.
But one good thing is opening honor play is comparatively easy as it does not require heating the screen with some heatgun. There are 2 special screws and then the screen is clasped.

the IDT started to flash the image and I got the successful PASS green message in the end.
The bootloader is temporary unlocked in testpoint mode
however, even if I have kept the VOL UP button pressed and removed the usb cable to reboot directly in the recovery mode (to prevent the overwrite with the default eRecovery) it still brings me to the default eRecovery menu.
I have even tried to flash TWRP manually in fastboot (using the tespoint mode to temporary unlock the bootloader) and I got the img file sent and written.
However, it still brings me to the default eRecovery.
Do I do something wrong or miss something? becase flashing of any image is successful but I can't get anything changed on the phone (just getting OKAY or success messages on the pc)
For everyone here trying by opening up the phone, make sure you DON'T touch any other 2 points or your motherboard will short-circuit and become unusable.

Why would people have to take this tedious route to unlock their Huawei or Honor smartphones? Huawei as a company should listen and release bootloader to those who wish to unlock their system. They can put in place an agreement to be accepted by those who want to unlock their phones and expected no warranty after doing so. This is very simple to do.
Can someone confirm test point connectors on the play please?
Doesn't look too difficult imho.

There are some "globalised" china roms which are doing a decent job (with notifications sound fixed, chinese bloatware removed and google services installed), I recommend the one made by Francko76.
Also you can try all the treble stuff out there. I only tried two GSIs so far and I went back to Francko´s build.
Anyway I´m like you looking forward z6 pro dedicated custom roms.

Restore stock bootloader?
Hello, I recently went through the whole process of unlocking bootloader, installing TWRP recovery and flashing ROM, and I am at version 11.0.350 ST ROW currently.
The ROM works fine, but now at every boot I am greeted by the "The boot loader is unlocked and software integrity cannot be guaranteed. <snip> Press power button to pause boot/continue" notice.
According to google, it's apparently a result of the bootloader unlocking process.
I tried to lock the bootloader again using "fastboot flashing lock", but then the phone stopped booting normally. It got stuck at the boot logo (which I believe means bricked?).
It wouldn't work until I unlocked bootloader and reflash the ROM.
So what I want to ask is, is it possible at this time to restore the bootloader to stock to avoid that "boot loader unlocked" notice and possibly become eligible for warranty again?

Hello, I recently went through the whole process of unlocking bootloader, installing TWRP recovery and flashing ROM, and I am at version 11.0.350 ST ROW currently.
The ROM works fine, but now at every boot I am greeted by the "The boot loader is unlocked and software integrity cannot be guaranteed. <snip> Press power button to pause boot/continue" notice.
According to google, it's apparently a result of the bootloader unlocking process.

How To Guide Unlock bootloader in 1sec and root (magisk) without custom recovery

May not work for all devices, use at your own riskPreparationWe are going to do it on Windows, if you use Mac or Linux, please read the corresponding tutorial here.
First of all you should install Magisk 24.1+ and patch boot.img through magisk app. Then copy the patched img file to your PC, it will be used soon.
Now follow the steps:
1. Install python(3.9 recommended) and git.
2. Clone the repository and install the dependencies:
Code:
git clone https://github.com/bkerler/mtkclient.git
cd mtkclient
pip install -r requirements.txt
3. Install UsbDk x64.
4. Turn off your phone and connect your phone to pc with usb cable.
5. Run command python mtk_gui in CMD or Powershell, make sure to locate to mtkclient directory before you run command.
6. Now hold volume down + power button till you see phone detected in the GUI or CMD/Powershell. Then you could release the buttons.
After the device info initialized you can see:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",

Now let's unlock bootloader:If you have unlocked just skip and go to magisk root tutorial at the last.
Go to Flash Tools , you can see Unlock bootloader , click it. Your phone would be unlocked in 1sec.
You will getting a dm-verity warn when booting, just press the power button to continue. This warn could disappear by clean flash a ROM.
It's RECOMMENDED to do a clean flash after unlock, using MiFlash (Do not lock again). Then install Magisk and root your phone.
Now let's root the phone:
1. Rename your patched boot image to xxxx.bin, for example: magisk_patched_boot.img -> magisk_patched_boot.bin
2. Go to Write Partitions
3. Find boot_a and boot_b, set both of their values to the path of magisk_patched_boot.bin
4. Click Write Partitions button at the top right.
5. Wait until the progress goes to 100%.
6. Close the window, disconnect the phone. Long press power button to reboot.
If you did everything correctly and it still boot loop, try to use mtkclient to read boot_a partition, then patch it and flash it.
Now your phone should boot successfully with magisk root.
The big question now is should people wait for MIUI 13? New update may include new drivers and kernel. The rooting and or breaking checksums may break the OTA updates?
will it work on evergo?
in the picture it show dimensity 700 5g.
And can i unlock bootloader by fastboot?
Im in loop with fastboot.

Having the same issue here. The bootloader seems to be just locking back when booting into System. Tried everything, nothing helps. Tried to unlock bootloader with MiFlashUnlock, got "Failed to unlock (-1)" error. I just dont know what I can do now.
I done everything but my phone doesn't unlock so now I have the dm-verity warning and I can't do a clean flash with Miflash. Also Miflash Unlock doesn't work. What I can do now?

Seeing all the comments. I regret buying MTK chipset and should've stayed snapdragon which has more support. My heart goes out to all those bricked and unable to root

That seems interesting. Man, can you please make a full tutorial how to root the phone with this "残芯专用TWRPRecovery刷入工具Win版V2.1.exe"? I just don't know Chinese. Also, your link seems to be broken, I cannot open it.
hi
I bought the POCO M4 Pro 5G and tried this tool.
I also couldn't unlock the bootloader with this tool.
After that, the dm-verity warning came to be displayed.
However, I was able to unlock it with the official miflash unlock tool after 168 hours.
I think the person who got the error with the official tool is due to another factor.
Thanks, your method worked perfectly
I've got the problem were I can't unlock. Tried all methods from MIUI official to mtkclient. Says unlocks but MIUI says still locked. Also any moded boot_a or boot_b partition converted with Magisk and written back, results in System Destroyed message on boot. Then I have to wrote back official boot.img to get phone working again. Tried on 12.5.3 and on 12.5.7 MIUI. Poco needs to get their act together and offer an automated unlock and root option in development section.
Finally rooted my phone. The problem I had is the bootloader wasn't properly unlocked. mtkclient simply wasn't able to unlock. I used the MIUI Unlock and didn't have to wait due to past registration and failed wait period. To know if your phone is properly unlocked you'll see a padlock with the open bar at the top of the boot screen. Not sure if a mtkclient unlock will also show the unlocked padlock icon.
Thanks for your guide, i just want to confirm that, is safteynet passing on rooted miui v12.5.7? (Global : Poco M4 Pro 5G : Evergreen : 21091116AG)
Здравствуйте столкнулся с такой проблемой я не смог достать Бут файл для моего андроида 13.0.4 на poco m4 pro 5g.

Question Reflashing stock ROM on bootlooping device

Hi.
Bought this phone 4 months ago and it went into a boot loop, where it would only show the battery empty icon. Yesterday, I tried turning it on again and noticed, that it's stuck at the Redmi - Powered by Android" screen. From this screen, I can enter fastboot. See this video:
VID_20230417_194410.mp4
drive.google.com
I've read that there are a couple of options for reflashing this device:
- aks someone with the authorized Xiaomi account to reflash stock rom using the MiFlash tool (no bootloader unlock needed)
- put the device somehow into ETL mode and reflash stock rom using the MiFlash tool (no bootloader unlock needed)
I've tried contacting someone, who for #1, but they aren't willing to help, for some reason (I'm wiling to pay). For #2, I'd have to open up the device, which I'd like to avoid doing.
Would anybody know of any other options for fixing this?
Thank you in advance!
okay, which version of MIUI are you running?
first get the fastboot rom of the version your phone supports , i recommend the global version fastboot rom , because it works and its stable and u get your updates
download this fastboot rom first
Temporary file download page
miuirom.org
and I will give you the MI flash tool working version at like 6 hours after, Ill post the remaining steps after you download this , btw, you will get a .tgz file , when u download the Rom, thats the one you need

If you can boot into fastboot, then it is already enough.
Now, I suppose your bootloader is still locked
You need to download a MIUI ROM from "EEA", from any trusted website, and remember to download the "Fastboot" ROM to flash it (my favorite is mifirm.net, it downloads faster)
Install MiFlashPro - attached at the end of the thread
Open it up, and you will be greeted with this.
Click on the "Mi Flash" tab, as it is the only one we need.

"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",

}
You will be greeted with this window now:
After you have done downloading your ROM, extract it to any place.
If MiFlash does not recognise the directory you have extracted in, move it to C:\. Not any external drive, your main one
Now click on the "select" button box, go to your ROM directory, and simply select its folder
Boot your device into fastboot (PWR + VOL-), click on "refresh" button box and your device serial number should appear on the first line.
Now simply click "flash" and let it do its job for 10 to 15 minutes. It will reboot automatically.
If you dont succeed, please read this thread:
Thread '[GUIDE] UNBRICK YOUR HARD-BRICKED MTK' https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/guide-unbrick-your-hard-bricked-mtk.4564029/
You will require BROM and to bypass and to flash via SP Tool.

You have either got confused, or being scammed
Newer MTK devices do not require the opening of the device. I suppose you have been probably confused with a Qualcomm Snapdragon based service, that does require the opening, so you can access EDL mode and flash your phone into life, or someone just put up the Redmi Note 10 5G and is a scam, also, on MTK, you do not need to pay for a authorized Mi account. On MTK, it is easily bypassable due to BROM
Thank you both.
I put ran MiFlashPro, pointed it towards the downloaded eea stock rom file and attempted to flash it, but got this error message:
So I presume this is due to locked bootloader? I'll try to follow the second link.
I actually managed to enter recovery mode and do a factory reset. Currently setting it up and plan on updating it.

Good to hear you got sorted. I basically bricked my phone last week (only 3 weeks old ) after trying to switch from MIUI 13 Global to EEA. I managed to get it into BROM mode and used MTK Auth Bypass which allowed me to use Chimera Tools to flash the phone again as nothing else seems to work with a locked bootloader. Currently running MIUI 14 with root and magisk optimisations (blur/high end tweaks, MIUI monet etc) and loving it! Just need a way to bypass Play Integrity API for Google Wallet
