Sony Xperia 1 II Latency + signal issues - Sony Xperia 1 II Questions & Answers

Hello, I would like to ask you for help. I have old HTC U11 phone. And new Sony Xperia 1 II.
But I found out that with Old HTC I have much better Speed and Latency. As I work in IP, I did tests towards our loop used to measure lines, but it gives exactly same results as speedtest net.
Sony Xperia 1 II Latency - 38ms!
HTC U 11 Latency - 16 ms
Huawei Latency - 17 ms
HTC Speed - 68 Mbit
Sony Xperia 1 II Speed 28 Mbit
Do you please have the same experiences?
Or it is problem of my equipment? +20ms on such expensive phone Is really deal braker for me.
I did 30 tests in many times, exactly same place. The same BTS.
Thank you for your time

Using the Kaiser as a HDSPA modem (and Kaisers HDSPA speed in general)

Is anyone getting reasonable speed out of their Kaiser when using it as a modem?
I'm on an unlimited data plan with 7.2 mbps HDSPA.
With my USB modem suppled by the operator I usually get around 4-5 mbps or so.
With the Kaiser I can never reach more than 1.2 mbps to be pretty much exact.
Even worse is surfing on the actual Kaiser, I never reach over 0.8 mbps and in general it feels just as slow as my crappy old first gen 3G phone from Sony Ericsson.
Between the video driver debacle, poor bluetooth implementation and the poor data performance I'm quite inclined to just return the phone before my 30 days of return policy are up...

[Q] Galaxy S vs X10 (input for purchasing decision)

Hi
I'm fed up with my SE X10 and seriously consider buying the Galaxy S soon. Naturally, I've been hanging out at the local phone pushers to do comparisons. One thing I noticed today when playing a music video (Electric Lady Lab - It's Over Now) was that while the picture was very smooth on the X10, on the Galaxy S it seem kinda pixellated. It was as if you could see each pixel quite clearly - compared to the X10. Also, the video appeared darker and with less cold colors than on the X10 (the thing with the color temperature is actually a good thing). Now, both videos were played with the default youtube player set to high quality. I'm also quite sure that it's the same version of the video (searched for "electric lady lab" and picked the second hit from the top on both phones). I also set both phones to max brightness (home -> settings -> sound and display -> brightness), but I don't know if the Samsung has separate brightness settings for youtube/media.
I hate to say it, guys... but as of today I think I might be alot less impressed with the Galaxy S. I'm still trying, though.. I'm still trying really hard to like the phone as I think the specs outclasses all other phones. Please tell me that I had made some weird setting on the phone and that (apart from iPhone4) no phone at all can come close to the Galaxy S regarding picture quality... that's what I've read everywhere and what I want to believe
Other than that - I would like to hear from people who have or have had both phones. What's good and what do you miss when going from one of the phones to the other ?
Thanx
- Martin
Yh I had an X10 and the screen is definitely sharper when looking at text but the video on the galaxy is far far far superior. There is a separate setting on the galaxy media player for brightness btw.
Over all the galaxy S is just a much nicer experience than the x10 and the camera is actually better on the galaxy s imo. As far as media is concerned the galaxy beats the x10 in every single department. I have no regrets after moving from the x10(I did love the x10's design though) but it was outdated running 1.6 for god sake.
Did you set youtube in high res mode? Its hidden in menu. Everyone thinks sgs is crap at youtube til i turn on high res.

Leaning to Samsung but SE's always been more user friendly
Martin,
I'm in the same delemma. I got a X10 for my daughter in college and at this point she loves it, but I'm not sure for myself. I love SE for the excellent thought they put in for usability. Even their feature phones have full contact fields including addresses, calendars, and backup capability. They have Windows software to do full backups and sync with Outlook and even iTunes libraries. I can't tell you how many times SE's online configuration tool properly recreated my APN settings (which you need second level tech support at ATT) or a email account's settings for my ISP, et al, properly.
1. It's a certainty IMHO, that the X10 will never get 2.2 officially. This is because all of the other models in the series are not required to get 2.2 or anything beyond 2.1. Google has said that 'lessor phones' can stay at 2.1/2.2. SE is hurting for money and has more limited staff after the layoffs. The X10 is the only phone that could go higher to 3.0 since it has the 1Ghz CPU, but it isn't worth the investment if they introduce a newer more high powered phone. I also think that some of the features in 2.2 would have to be disabled on ATT (tethering or setup to send them a message so they can bill you extra), and some 2.2 features step on SE camera software and Timescape UXP. But they may incorporate the auto-archive/delete msgs from 2.2.
1b. Engadget reports that today, Aug 30, SE reps stated that the 2.1 will be released in September. How long it takes to get through ATT is a different story, but it's easy enough to debrand. I have debranded all my SE phones in the past.
2. Larger internal storage on phone (not SD card) on the Galaxy. There is a 16GB phone storage on the GS, and only 1GB on the X10.
3. Larger SD card capable. 32GB vs 16GB on the X10. (I don't think this is a Donut vs Froyo feature, but I'm willing to be corrected.)
4. Galaxy's "N" wireless. Though I can't find out anywhere if this is two channel bonded 'N' or not. My home is all "N". My daughter can use her laptop to make a wifi network at home.
5. More video codecs out of the box than the X10. X10 doesn't have SE's Megabass or Walkman features like a equalizer.
6. I like X10's hardware buttons for Android. I push a button, I know it's been pushed, I touch a space on the screen, I'm not so sure.
7. X10's little LED for message waiting and power status.
8. My local ATT store let me play with both phones without theft devices for HOURS. I think the X10 is more comfortable in your hand.
9. Software drivers aren't as half baked like the Galaxy's even with the wi-fi bug the x10 exhibits on some firmware, you could think of it as a 'battery saver' turning off the wi-fi when the signal disappears. X10's AGPS works, and no reports of file names with more than 16 characters causing the phone to reset to factory defaults (wiping everything in the process).
10. multi-touch isn't important to me, I want to be able to work the phone with one hand if needed. I don't play a lot of games.
11. While it seems to be a lot of overhead, the Timescape thing is fascinating when compared to a list...
While I don't change phones often it's a certainty that once ATT announces LTE that all both of these phones are dated. 2 years use may be a stretch.
I say wait for epic 4g if you can use it or maybe htc desire gd. Then see if you still want a sgs

Tradeoff: keyboard vs internal storage

Not for me:
1. Epic only has 400mb internal storage vs Captivate's 16GB
2. Sprint - while all the iphone people moan about ATT, I've been with them in the various incarnations since the mid 90's. I ran my current 3 phone plan through one of those sites that tell you if you can get a better deal elsewhere, and my 3 phone plan at $140/mo with family unlimited messages, unlimited data on one phone and 200mb/mo on the X10, still comes up the cheapest. I have more minutes than I'll ever use banked, too.
Having a keyboard is nice, though it forces you to use the phone in a particular orientation.
i started off on android with an x10i but when i found out it was lacking so much compared to other phones i had to change and i was torn between the HTC desire and the SGS, luckily i decided on the SGS and im very happy with my decision
main 2 points for me were
no multitouch, i use it for a lot of gaming and typing and this was a big issue for me making typing at any speed a problem and using any of the emulators near impossible.
lack of anything above 1.6, this was also a problem as all i ever got looking at x10 forums was 'when is 2.1 coming out' and 1.6 also means a lot of the better apps were missing from the app store.
in my time with it i did grow to like the x10 but it was very soon forgotton once i saw the amoled screen and the responsiveness of the sgs in comparrison
in my view its a no contest sgs every time
Being a thread in the Galaxy S forum, I am aware that people here might be a bit biased. However, I must say that the Samsung does feel snappier so apparantly the better hardware aren't just there to look good on the specs. The display also looks good but I'm a tad worried about the pixel density on the Samsung after being an X10 owner (which I still am, for that matter).
However, you don't get better tests than from people using it every day, so I was wanting to hear pros and cons from people who have or have had both devices.
I'm very close to having made up my mind in favor of Samsung Galaxy S would still like to hear about "real life" comparisons.
So far my list is roughly like this, listing the pros and counting the cons ((-) counts as a half or in worst case a full):

No, the X10 is 848 (or something like that) by 480.
If only some new badass Android phone could top the iPhone4 resolution. Primarily because I would like higher resolutions that we have today, but also to get the bragging rights back

[Q] Xperia ZR or Note 3 Neo ?

It will be my first android device. Had been using Symbians and iPhones since ages.
When I was looking around, found Xperia line to be disgusting when I heard the reviews from my friends who are facing problems to get their batteries replaced. Sony center is asking for about 15000 rupees (half the phone's MRP).
Anyway, what do you guys suggest between Xperia ZR (available for very cheap 17k and a removable battery) v/s Note 3 Neo (about 27k) ?
My usage are centered on Web Browsing (3G) and Emails for 95% of times, rest 5% is texting, calls etc. No games, no movies/videos, etc. Have iPads for those.
Or some other device in the similar price range, you would like to recommend? (Not finding it worth to spend 35k+ for an android phone).
Any suggestion will be a great help !!

Zuk Z1 in India

I'm thinking to buy this phone but really confused ....can anyone write a small review of it and how is the development community
Typing this answer from my ZUK Z1 that I have been using since the last 3 months. Before using this phone, I used the MI3 for little over one year after which the motherboard got faulty and it would have costed a bomb to replace it, so thought of buying a new phone instead. I reviewed a lot of phones for one month before zeroing in on the Z1. He is a small review of the device.
Build*- The build quality of the phone is great. I am using the space grey model which has a matte finish at the back. The back has a subtle curve which helps to have a firm grip on the phone. However, I feel you'd still need a back cover as the phone is slim and could slip off from your hand easily.
Chipset*- Coming to the chipset, the Z1 uses a nearly 2.5 yrs old Snapdragon 801 which was a major factor for me choosing this device. I had used the 800 with my MI3 and the performance was phenomenal. Not even once in my year long heavy usage have I faced a single instance of lag or stutter and no matter what I threw at it, it simply knocked it out of the park. So I was looking for a phone that would have the 800 or a similar processor. The 801 is a flagship 32 bit chipset but can chew up any new low end 64 bit chipset like the 410 or 615 easily. The performance on the Z1 is overall smooth with occasional stutters. I still think the 800 was slightly better in terms of performance but there are many things to consider here, so I'd rank the 801 along the same lines as 800. In fact, the 801 excels in some areas which I will get to shortly. So performance wise, Z1 is top notch.
UI*- The Z1 runs on Cyanogen 12 based on Android 5.1 (lollipop). The OS is highly customizable and gives you a stock android experience. There is no bloatware on the OS. The COS 13 was supposed to be released for ZUK Z1 but it hasn't been released yet (not sure if it ever will be). However the CyanogenMod 13 based on Android 6 is available for the Z1.
Display*- The Z1 has a 5.5 inch full HD IPS LCD panel. Even though it's not as sharp and vivid as an AMOLED screen, but it is quite good. The colors are vibrant and the viewing angles are also good.
RAM and Storage*- The Z1 comes with 3 GB of RAM and 64 GB internal of which around 58 GB is available to the user. OTG is supported.
Camera*- 13 MP rear and 8 MP front shooters. It has Optical Image Stabilization and the images come out to be pretty good in outdoors and even under artificial lightning.
Heating*- Heating is a big concern for smartphone users these days. Surprisingly, the Z1 has minimal heating when compared to its peers, like the Moto G4 plus, which can heat upto 46C and above with extensive usage (20-30 mins). However, with the Z1, even with over an hour of gaming, I haven't noticed any significant heating issues. The MI3 used to heat more than the Z1 and this is where I think the 801 wins over the 800. Also with calls of over 20 mins, I haven't noticed any heating at all. However, be forewarned that many users have reported abnormal heating with their Z1 devices, so I guess that I just got lucky here.
Gaming*- Played Mortal Kombat X and Dead Trigger 2 and faced little to no lag at all. With MK X, I faced very little stutter at times, but most people won't even notice it. Overall, gaming is very smooth on the Z1. Even heavy games like Asphalt 8 and Nova 3 will run smooth.
Call Quality*- Very good. Haven't faced any issues with call quality, however the reception over 4G in my area is not so strong.
Battery*- 4100 mAh battery, which would easily last for 1.5 to even 2 days with moderate usage. Charging time takes around 2 hrs.
Some things that the Z1 lacks:
1. NFC
2. IR blaster.
3. Box doesn't come with earphones.
4. Front flash
Overall, I feel that the Z1 is a good device that you can buy within a budget of 15K rupees.

How does the development scenario feel like to you? There aren't a lot of ROMs currently. What's the possibility of this getting Nougat (via CM14)?
Also, what would you recommend? This or the SD 650 powered Redmi Note 3?

Xperia XZ1 , XA2 , L2 and other Compact Models

I've been checking out the Xperia models, mainly the compacts. They seem like the only compact phones available with decent specs. Well, besides, the iPhone, but I'm not a big fan of those.
I was advised against buying an Xperia model over at another thread because repairs can,be expensive. The person didn't expand on what these repairs can be and if the Xperia's have an unreliable track record...whether it be a specific thing that breaks or just a poor quality phone all around. I'm curious to hear what you, the owners, have to say about this. Especially with the models I've mentioned.
The XZ1 Compact is definitely the most compact of them all, with a 4.6" screen size and 5" total phone length. The XA2 is close behind at 5.2" screen/5.6" length, followed by the L2 at 5.5" screen/5.9" length.
Although the XZ1 Compact has 4 GB of RAM, compared to 3 GB in the XA2 and L2, it only has a 2700 mA battery. Versus a 3300 mA in the XA2 and L2.
Processor wise, the XZ1 Compact has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, compared to the XA2's Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 and the L2's MediaTek MT6737T Quad-core 1.5 GHz. Just going by the name, the 835 sounds faster than the 650, but how do they compare to the MediaTek? It has a faster speed, but do the Snapdragons have more than cores?
I don't demand much of my phones. I don't care about the camera, don't play games and don't use social media. I mainly use it to listen to music (via headphones and speaker), call/text and light internet use. I basically want something that doesn't lag and has great audio quality.
Thanks.
