NFC - Motorola Edge Guides, News, & Discussion

Hello I have a motorola edge xt2063-2 and a samsung galaxy a20. My primary phone is the moto and I am completely new to NFC and understanding how it works exactly. When I try to read/write NFC with my moto and tap the back of my samsung a20 it says it is incompatable. On my moto I use an application called NXP Tag Writer. Are these two phones just incompatable with nfc? With tagwriter, i want it so when I touch the A20 it simply just opens up google chrome, I created a 'launch application' com.google.chrome dataset within tagwriter(just as a start for understanding NFC) but when I touch the phones together it gives me a fail error. If there are any threads that may be able to teach nfc for dummies for motorola or can offer any links to guides or different apps I should try or advice it would be appreciated. I really like motorola so I'll probably keep this brand for years to come. Thank you

Samsung heavily modifies everything, moto doesn't. NFC is near field communication - it's a protocol - it works if your phone has the hardware. See preeceding sentence....
You wrote: "Are these two phones just incompatable with nfc?" That's quite the stretch to make - NFC works on both of these devices - they are compatible with NFC.

I'll take a look at your link, and by incompatable I don't mean with NFC, I mean linking each other through NFC, maybe I'm trying to make it so my samsung will store a tag that will make it launch chrome when touching another nfc device? I simply want it so when (with either device) when it touches another nfc capable smartphone, it will launch chrome. Here is a screenshot, I also get 'failed' if I try to erase the nfc tags on my samsung.

That link I sent was just a rudimentary - what is NFC - link. I wish I knew more - sorry, I don't want to convolute the issue any so Imma shut up. Maybe try a different app? I dunno -

[Android 2.1+] btPair - A bluetooth pairing helper

Folks,
Sitting in a rental car wanting to connect your phone with the bluetooth handsfree?
Got a new stereo headset and want to pair it with your device?
Want to send a file via bluetooth to a friend and need pairing first?
Whenever you want to pair to a device or unpair from a device you have to go deeply into the settings of Android. If you finaly got there, the bluetooth pairing partner is out of pairing mode again...
That's the reason I wrote btPair. On opening the App you can scan for visible devices surrounding you and a red or green image shows you the current pairing status. With just one click you can pair or unpair to any device around you.
It's that simple...
Available on the Market now.

Thanks for buying and your response.
So, how do you like it? Everthings working as expected?

Didn't quite like it. It's full of bugs and have sent you an email of the problem. Hope to see it resolved. Thanks.
Just to clarify: It is not FULL of bugs. There was one bug on one specific device. It was a duplicate device entry (the discovered device was listed after each discovery additionally) on a Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus with HC 3.2.
I was not able to reproduce this behaviour my Xoom with HC 3.2 and all my other devices (including emulator). However, I made some changes and added a function to display already paired devices uppon startup of btPair, and added a button for that.
So version 1.1 is published now.
Cheers
Many thanks to the developer. Now it doesn't show duplicates anymore. Hopefully the developer will add more feature in the future.

[Android 2.1+] btCrawler - A Bluetooth Diagnostic Tool v2.0 released 23.08.2012

Greetings stranger,
btCrawler Version 2.0 has been released now with integrated database.
Description:
btCrawler - Bluetooth Scanner
This tool can scan for surrounding visible bluetooth devices. Ist shows the device type, supported services and the signal strength. It can also be used to find a device based on the signal strength.
Features:
- *** NEW: Database support. All scanned devices are now stored in a database and can be reviewed. Stored data includes the time a device is first seen and when it was last seen.
- List currently paired devices
- Scan for visible devices
- Shows Device Name, BDADDR (like MAC), Class of Device and Signal Strength
- Query SDP services from devices
- Pair / Unpair to devices
Over the time I will add more features as I find more ways to mangle the API a bit more.

Hi domamay,
The normal bt settings in android do not allow to scan for sdp services. For example you only get an options dialog on longpress if the paired device offers services to which your device has an endpoint for or is able to connect to. Also in normal bt settings you dont get the signalstrength of the remote device or the device class or the device bdaddr. I was missing these things and infos that's why I wrote btCrawler years ago for WinMo and now for android.
Cheers
New verison out
Last night I released a new version of btCrawler which adds a database (See first post for more description). All devices which are discovered will now be stored in this database and can be reviewed at any time. In addition there are first seen and last seen values which show you the first and last contact to a device.
Comments and feature request are always welcome.
Cheers,
Michael

Hey there guys, I'm writing in the off topic section about this e-cigarette I've just got, it's called Joyetech Ocular C and it comes with a color touch screen , music player and photo viewer capabilities , bluetooth conectivity, a pedometer to count your steps and from what I understand, it has around 2Gb of memory , it is firmware upgradeable and I'm wondering if there is more that can be done to it in therms of functionality.
It's true that vapers, the people who smoke e-cigarettes as their called, dont really need any of this functionality in their devices since they mainly use them purely for smoking, it's nice however to have something a little extra to go with it.
I've looked online for custom firmwares or methods to customise your firmware for these type of devices, but i've only found info on old devices that come with small monochrome screens and the most you can do is upload logos on to the device.
My interests are on how you can access the root of the system built into these devices since it must have a processor and a file sistem inside, how to edit some of these files , per example, you have the option to upload around 100 pictures and some songs ( the memory on it is 2GB ) but there's no way of deleting them once uploaded, in case your storage gets full.
Also it would be nice if users could implement or extent more functionality in the device, par example it only suports .jpeg files in the photo viewer , .png &/or .gif to use as a screen saver would be nice, more so even video playback capability .
And before I get laffed at for asking so much out of an electronic cigarette, I think that since it does come from the factory with all these functionalities and hardware, it's a shame they dont use it to it's fullest.
So is there anyone having any clues on how to "get inside" these devices and tuning them up ?
I've included the latest firmware I could find for the device as well as the program they offer for you to upload it onto the device. If anybody could crack it opn and take a look inside and see at least what's in there, that would be a start.

[Request/Thought] Stock FM radio experience port for N960U?

I know it's been discussed before, but according to the N9600 variant getting root recently, the dev @Mentalmuso made up my mind with his WETA thread unsurprisingly the .apk I've been looking for was there but obviously it's unable to install for being a system thing which makes me wonder:
Since the system partition is untouchable without root (which is not in sight) and this apk has to be placed there to work, flashing it somehow is the only option I suppose.
Just for the clarification - I don't like the Next radio experience at all and I'll name the reasons from top to bottom:
1. No record button - this is the most critical for me. The Recforge workaround which I counted on no longer works here.
2. No RDS. There is a built in database that gathers up information on your current location and names the frequencies to the stations in this area. For people outside U.S.A this feature is useless.
3. No swipe for fast navigation across the dial. Inconvenient manual frequency typing forces me to empty the field then type in the desired value, must insert a "."dot for decimal separation.
4. Only odd numbers are displayed. It may as well pick up the even ones properly (since 2016 it should) but still display them as odds.
5. On screen advertisements - I wish to use a service that is already commercial, why do I need such obstacles in the way?
6. Load times - though quite minor flaw but Next radio has a splash screen for at least 2~3 seconds then it takes a few more seconds from the moment you push the operate button until you can hear a sound, compared to the stock operation which takes almost instantly. Also the seek buttons have a small delay in Next radio.
Again, only the miss of record is really bugging me to the point I consider a switch to N9600. If Recforge did it for me (or a sound recorder equivalent) I could live with the rest. Apart from this I'm completely fine unrooted.
Any idea of how to legit flash this .apk or a new way to record that doesn't involve aux and streaming?

I used this fake gps you refer before, but I find this red one is much easier to use.
You did not provide a link to the application, so it is difficult to discuss.

FakeGps : Fake Gps Location - Apps on Google Play
Change the location on your mobile device to any place.
play.google.com
Here it is.
An Internet connection is required before setting a new location. If you follow the instructions shown in the app's help, setting a new location should work fine.
Spoiler: settings
FakeLocation vs. Fake GPS:
- 5 times greater,
- free for 15 minutes only,
- does not work in android 5,
- is more complicated to set up location falsification,
- after following all instructions, does not falsify location in my Samsung with android 10.
it's very useful. Thanks a lot. Maybe becuase I 've been familiar with it or used to it ,I think it is still easier to use
