Samsung Note 8 Won't Boot SM-N950U - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Hey Everyone, Hoping you might be able to help me.
My Samsung Note 8 SM-N950U (Verizon) has been in a drawer for almost a year and a half now. I puled it out so I could use it to play one of my games while leaving my actual phone available for use.
Upon plugging in and trying to power up the device, it will only boot up tot he "Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Powered by Android" screen, then it starts over from the beginning. I've tried booting into the boot menu by holding the Power and Volume down buttons but it does nothing.
If I hold the Power + Volume Down + Bixby button, the screen flashes a sort-of "teal" color, but then flashes to black and I'm unable to read what might have previously been on the screen.
Any recommendations? Appreciate your help.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Exhibit II 4G (SGH-T679) Can't Boot

My Galaxy Exhibit II 4G is about a year old, rooted and i have CM11 installed. Everything was fine, I had it plugged in (charging) and i was downloading an app (Camscanner) from the Mobogenie store when suddenly the phone shut off and the battery icon appeared with the loading circle in the middle.
This did not stay on for long as the screen would go off and this would again appear. After pulling the battery and removing the charger, then reinserting the battery, the phone would just flash the SAMSUNG logo in this very same manner.
I am unable to get into either recovery or download modes and when i try this combination (VOL UP + VOL DWN) i get:
RAMDUMP MODE
Cause: Force Upload
I have been reading forums for hours and i have found nothing. Is my device bricked? What can I do to recover it? Please, any help would be greatly appreciated :crying:
What happens if you try vol. up + power, or vol. down + power?

Thanks for replying. Nothing happens. It just continues to reboot like I'm not doing anything. The only way I'll get a reaction out of it is with vol up + vol down
It can be tricky. This post may be clear http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32437850&postcount=6
The link you sent me to sounds similar to my problem, except I wasn't trying to update the firmware. The crash was spontaneous.
However, neither of those methods work. As soon as I put in the battery the SAMSUNG logo appears, then disappears and reappears and it continues like that... Pressing the power button does nothing, whether by itself or with the volume up/down button
I am beginning to panic
What happens when it's connected to power?

Anyway, after many hours of investigation I discovered it was a hardware problem. The power button was stuck and so it forced it to reboot repeatedly. It also explains why it (the power button) was unresponsive. Disassembling the phone and freeing up the power button solved the problem.
P.s. Your build of CM11 is boss
I have same problem with power button. Had to tweak it hard cause it was so sensitive.
It's the first time it's happened to me. Probably because I dropped it so many times
Strange, ...

OK so I'm no expert or anything but maybe my experience with this Model might be able to help you a little bit. I have the same model and it was doing the exact same thing however I haven't rooted it. And I've since corrected the issue on mind particularly it appeared that it was the charge port and/or USB that either had a bad connection or possibly it was boot looped. However with me not rooting the I didn't understand how it could be booted Looped so I started playing around with holding the power button playin with USB things of this nature and what I found was that if I hold the USB to one side either left or right, this allowed me to help a boot farther into it sequence at first to just show the Samsung logo over and over then I could get it to get to the boot sequence about halfway through the boot animation until I finally got to the exhibit screen where displays its model and 4G status. I accomplish this by holding the USB to one side and pushing and holding the power button intermittently throughout the boot. Once I hit the unlock screen unlock the device and I immediately factory data reset it. I'm under the impression that mine was possibly I think that mine was somehow a corrupted bootloader or software still I don't know what caused it to backed up to this day occasionally it'll shut itself down and reboot on me that's why I'm here today I've got all the parts and pieces I need to flash a new rom and hopefully new software the new work over I'll be good to go I also cleaned the USB port made sure that it was still snug to the board all of the good stuff. I don't know if it'll help you but I had the same situation I thought you'd like to know that it was probably not what you were doing with the phone it may just be the software itself with this particular phone see I done nothing that you didn't had the exact same problems. I hope it was somewhat helpful if you haven't gotten it unlocked or re-booted yet. Then maybe just play around with the power sources and power buttons. And see if you can get the same results I did

Samsung Galaxy S3 gt - i9305 stuck in downloading mode

Hey guys!
I'm using a rooted Samsung Galaxy S3 gt - i9305.
When I tried to open the hard reset menu by pressing the volume up + power + home button it went into the download mode and got completely stuck over there. The phone has no charge left. When I try to charge, it automatically boots up and again shows the "Downloading do not turn off target" but it doesn't get charged. If I press and hold the power button the screen goes black for sometime and then again it's in the Downloading mode. No matter whatever key combinations I use, this is what happens. Please suggest me some ways to fix this. I don't have a PC, so it would be great if you suggest me how to get my phone back without using a PC. But I do have another working phone.
Please guys help me.
Thank you.

it seems like you have something wrong with the keys circuits, you need to make a hardware check on that phone.
the volume down key and home key must be stuck(like always pressed).
No they're not stuck. I'm able to press and hold them. The phone actually responds to this, first the screen goes black and after awhile again the download mode is on.:crying:

i know you can press them, it's something in the board itself, circuits are touched or something like that, i can't explain because I'm not a good English speaker in "electronic stuff".

Is my note 9 bricked?

Hello everybody,
First of all, please forgive my time to time poor english. I tried to fill in my presentation and hope it's ok.
I also want to thanks all the developpers that make a great job to optimise and/or improve stock roms and to help people like me that are not so good in developping.
Let me explain my problem :
I've just bought the Samsung note 9 SM-N960F/DS I was dreaming of.
when I put my sim card inside (a french one) he went on a firmware update, and my phone changed for a french CSC (XEF). Thus, I losed some functions I like, such as SpO2 measure in Samsung Health (I know, it's not so important but...). I couldn't also force the sound in earplugs when phone whas ringing, even by using "Soundabout apk" that was working with my note 4....
I don't know why Samsung changes the available functions regarding the country as we pay the same price for in fact a bunch of functions !!!
I tried to come back to the initial CSC, by flashing an official rom, and following a tutorial on XDA site explaining how to do without rooting, using combination files.
But I certainly made an error as my phone has restarted in a curious mode named "kernel panic upload mode" that I cannot escape. It's impossible to go back to download mode, even with combo like vol down + start button, or other combinations of buttons.
This phone wasn't rooted and i'm afraid now as I don't know how to flash a working rom on it. Whem I use Odin, the flashin fails at beginnig (at setup connection step).
Does somebody have an idea or a solution to fix this phone?
I join some picture of the current state.
Thanks for your answers

Hello Enzyne,
Thanks for your help !
I tried Vol up + Bixby + start, vol down + bixby + start, vol up + start, vol down + start, vol up + vol down + start, but nothing works.
I can't go back to recovery mode nor to download mode...
Odin says "added" but can't setup connection...
Have you flashed with this PC before using Odin? Can you possibly try another PC? Maybe different USB cables just to eliminate possibilities.

I used stock cable, given with the phone.
I gonna try with another one, and on anotehr PC... Maybe will I be lucky... But i'm not optimitic...
It could be that the drivers are no good. It is also possible that you may need a warranty exchange. I'm not aware of any other boot-loader level recovery process besides odin. Maybe even try another version of odin that is known to work with our note 9.

The Kernel Panic Upload Mode doesn't prevent the phone from booting to Recovery.
1. Make sure your phone is completely powered off.
2. Press and hold the Bixby button and the Volume up button.
3. Press and hold the Power button. At this point you should be holding down three buttons. Don't let these go until you see the Recovery screen pop up.
That's really all there is to it. If you have a case that goes over your buttons it's possible you aren't pressing down hard enough for one or more of the buttons to register.

Not to nit-pick,but,when the phone is fully powered down, the simultaneous 3-button push can be released as soon as you see the Note 9 splash screen & the recovery screen should pop-up within a few seconds.
Only reason I mention it is possibly the OP is experiencing issues by holding one or more of the buttons in too long,(just spit-ballin' here on this point)............

Hi Koliosis, and thanks for your help.
In fact, I even cannot power down the phone !!!
The only thing he does except showing kernel panic is to quickly flash on samsung splash screen when I push together vol down and power button, before to go back on panic kernel screen:crying:
No splash screen with bixby + vol up + power buttons combo...
The problem came after a failed flash with combined files (the good ones for my phone, I verified...)
Is there another way to reinitialise the phone except via Odin or Smart switch?

You got me there, I haven't used ODIN since the Note 5 days, LOL. (FWIW, I boot to recovery for cache wipe, otherwise, that's as deep as I've gotten into a Samsung device for quite some time).

I cross all I can !!!:fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
To get the Note 9 into download mode, do the following:
Turn the device off. Hold the volume down and Bixby button together and then plug in your USB cable that is attached to your PC. Your phone should go into download mode.
As this requires the phone to be off, you may get lucky once the battery runs out of charge.
Good luck

I've never had an issue with holding the buttons too long, but I have had an issue with not holding them long enough. I let go of the buttons as soon as the Recovery screen comes up and I haven't once had an issue with that. I think he'd have to hold the buttons for several seconds past the Recovery screen booting up before this caused an issue.

Okay, now we're on the same page. You have to be FAST with this.
1. Plug in a charging cable. This will give you the LED charging indicator on your phone.
2. Hold Power+Bixby until the charging indicator turns off. Once the charging indicator turns off you have to be VERY quick with step 3.
3. Press and hold Power+Bixby+Volume Up until you see the Recovery screen.
I was stuck in a bootloop after installing a Magisk module, and this happened to me as well. Every time I would power the phone down it wouldn't stay powered down. I had to be very fast to get into Recovery. It took me a couple of tries to press and hold the buttons quickly enough. That was partially because the case on my phone made pressing the buttons a bit more difficult.

Is there another way to force connection with the PC in order to flash a rom again? Another "magic" application like odin but more powerfull?
The only thing that im aware of is very legacy like QPST. Im not sure if QPST is able to handle the newer phones tho. You can definitely ruin your phone with it too.
Hi again Enzyme
I looked on Google for QPST. But it seems it's only for Qualcom powered phones... mine is Exynos powered. ..

[Q] S10 stuck on splash screen

Hello XDA members,
Recently my S10 randomly rebooted and is since then stuck on the splash screen. It wont let me turn the device off or boot into safe mode, download mode or recovery. It simply is stuck onto the samsung logo screen.
After draining my battery, I tried to charge it but it instantly goes to the splash screen again (not the charging screen) and again, it won't let me boot into any other menus. I tried all the button combinations.
The S10 is 3 days old and has not been modified. It has been updated to the latest may patch.
Any help or suggestions would be appriciated!!
Kind regards,
Samuel
Hi....
Put the phone on the charger and then press Power + Volume Down button and hold it for about 8 seconds until it vibrates ... so you can turn the phone off .
When the phone is off, press the Power + Bixby + Volume Up button and hold it until you enter into recovery mode and then wipe data / factory reset.
If you fail then you must send the phone to repair immediately... Good luck..

Thank you for responding.. Sadly it didnt let me reboot to any mode in any way.. I contacted my service provider and they offered an repair without costs.. So I guess I gotta wait another 2 weeks to enjoy the S10 again
Sorry my friend, I empathize with you. I had a similar situation on my original S9 Plus back when it was originally released and what a bummer - waiting until the replacement came in. All will be forgotten once ou get the replacement and you are able to enjoy the S10 again - so hang in there - Best of luck and I hope you get your replacement soon.
The update is what did it. Samsung just pulled the latest update for causing phones to lockup. I don't know the way forward for you though. With it being a couple of days old I would think that you could go back to the store and get it replaced.

Hard Bricked Samsung Note 9!!!

Hi,
Currently my Samsung Note 9 is stuck in a bootloop after trying to flash it. (Passed but died)
It is stuck in a cycle of Turning on and off - "WARNING: CMDline Parameter modified" with the "Samsung Note 9" loading screen.
I can't put the device into download mode - vol down + Bixby / vol down + bixby + Power - neither work!
Any ideas would be great.... Thanks in advance:good:

i remember back when the non-removable batteries (well, non removable by means which normies were accustomed to using at least) first cropped up in the forums and the "let the battery die and itll work" was laughed at. Those who laughed before arent laughing anymore. This is one of the biggest reasons i was ticked about the static battery launched in the S6. The "why does this bother you? all you need to do is a button press to simulate a battery pull" always baffled me especially when it came from devs

force reboot it with:
vol down + power
continue holding and the instant you see/feel it restart, do the DL mode procedure:
vol down + bixby while plugging usb from computer
its all about timing. get help from a friend for the DL mode procedure if you have trouble holding the buttons and plugging the usb cable coming from a computer.
what phone model do you have?
what did you flash?
