Question Change my mind: I bought a Xiaomi Mi 11 but I dislike MIUI - Xiaomi Mi 11

Hi all. I recently bought my first Xiaomi phone taking advantage of a launch offer on Amazon Italy (phone + Xiaomi Mi Smartwatch for 650 euros instead of 830 euros).
I was happy to have a device with a Snapdragon 888 processor, a super camera and an excellent 120 Hz screen but it took a few hours of use to realize that the biggest flaw of this device is the operating system.
I have been using Google or OnePlus phones for years, currently I also have a OnePlus 8 and I must say that the switch from OxygenOS to MIUI was devastating.
Handling background apps and notifications is awful. Often the notifications are not grouped or are identified correctly (those of Telegram are associated with a contact even if they are from another), in the background applications I find the same application several times. Using a "Pixel Experience" theme didn't improve that.
I prefer a device that is more like stock Android than a badly made iPhone.
I think about returning the product to Amazon but I'm here to ask you: why should I keep it? Am I wrong with my approach?
Help me make the right decision. Thank you.

I dislike MIUI as you. Nevertheless i use Xiaomi phones since 4 years. I use the developer rom (weekly) from Xiaomi.eu in combination with nova launcher. I like the multiple options (extras) of the rom based of latest android, the removed ads and bloadware and their grandiose community/ forums for the rom and the phones.

Wellcome to the club
You are on the righ place.
Here you can learn how to customize the hell out of your device. I also use "Nova" launcher and that makes experience so much better for the start. And I apply "viral" custom icon theme pack across all of the apps.
In time developers will start releasing custom roms here that are maybe for your needs and likes. So just be patient and you will fall in love in Xiaomi and the device. No need to return it, it a good device that will just become better in the near future with upcoming updates. There is a 12.5 update coming sometime in April which will have much improvement in many segments.

Weird. After buying why this question?
New trend?
Just buy Pixel or OnePlus.

I can understand this question after buy. If somebody is not knowing Miui and bought an xiaomi, chinese one, that could be a shock.

Ciao compa'
Coming from a Pixel 4XL and yes: devastating.
Using Nova Launcher or installing Xiaomi.eu will solve none of the problems that you are having. Actually Xiaomi.eu, even if based on 12.5, may make experience worts since you'll get Xiaomi apps for browser, dialer, contacts etc. Although Xiaomi.eu does not have the notification problems that you, me and everyone else with a EU Android 11 ROM is having, also on Mi10T phones.
If you contact me via pm I can try to provide some hints to ease the pain...

Thinking of buying X2 Pro

Hello people,
I am thinking of buying this phone as currently this is the perfect all round phone for the price. But, I see there is no development for it on XDA can anyone tell why so? Because I always use custom ROMs on my phone as I don't like this skinned versions. This is a big set back for me. Can anyone tell if there ever will be any development for this phone?
Thank you

I have had the phone for a few weeks and it is fantastic. 90hz is great and the fast charging is a life saver. The OS is pretty decent and I'm done with all the bugs of custom ROMs. Could be better but totally good enough.

Sadly the main reason is that released sources are messy and not easily usable for custom rom building.
Luckily all phones released with Android 8+ have a separate vendor partition compatible with treble, a new way of updating the smartphone imposed by Google. This means you would be able to install any rom you want that was build as a generic GSI image.
I got this phone instead of a Xiaomi because the hardware is just so good, and I don't regret my choice. Also the software is not as bad as people say, of course it's not barebone Android but realme os should make it even better.

I've sold my xiaomi mi note 10 and bouht x2 pro 12/256.
Didn't regret it for 1 second.
Thanks guys. I am confused between this one and Redmi K20 Pro, clearly this has good hardware and few other perks but K20 Pro has great development support.

I was too, but a couple of my friends have it and it broke in no time, I got scared it would be fragile.
I also got this for only 40€ more than the mi9t pro, and I would gladly take the 50W charging and the 90Hz over the popup

Yes, that's true
I was looking at the k20 pro,mi note 10 and this and went for the X2 pro simply because of the value for money,
90 hz
12gb ram
256gb ufs 3.0
50 watt charging,
People say downside is colorOs and yes it is not as good as other OS like Oxygen Is which I came from.
But it is not terrible at all and perfectly good in most areas,
RealmeUI is coming though and it looks impressive giving all things you would want in a feature rich OS from AOD to edge lighting,Im really excited for it.
If ROM support is really that important to you then I guess go with a 7T but for those who are not too pushed the X2 is perfect

The world's most famous phone durability reviewer JerryRigEverything couldn't broke K20 Pro but your friends broke it in no time??? If you don't believe me find and watch video: Redmi K20 Pro Durability Test by JerryRigEverything.
So why are you lying and writing bad about other phones to make X2 Pro look better, that's not fair and honest?

Woah woah dude, calm down. I follow Zack and see all of his reviews, I'm a phone fanatic and check out any news in the phone department.
Before this phone I had 2 different Xiaomi phones, I was valuating another one before getting this. I'm not attached to any brand or anything.
I'm just telling what happened to a couple of my friends, if you don't believe me I'll get photos of their phones but I don't see the point. I couldn't care less of what other people buy, the op just asked a question and I shared my experience.

Yeah, it is value for money for sure. These companies are not like Apple that they will give software updates for 3-4 years, they suddenly drop support that's what I am afraid of.
That's why ROM development is very important for me I always want to use the latest Android. 7T is out of budget so I may opt for K20 Pro.

I think people will refrain from unlocking and flashing because it breaks the FOD.
That is what made me go for the k20 because if you are a flashaholic like me, custom development is what matters the most.
I have suffered with my first phone with no development, the Coolpad Note 3. When new it seems nice but as time passes by with no updates. It gets very hard to deal with repeated factory resets, which is the only way left.
So all the rest of my phones that I bought had some of the best development teams...even till date.
Zuk z2
Poco f1
K20 pro/mi9t pro
So if you want to taste custom roms, you have to go the k20 way, but beware the FOD (Fingerprint Scanner) on custom roms on the K20 Pro aren't flawless byt still work with workarounds, including widewine L1 support.
Support is really poor and updates come later.
I like my X2 Pro but it is clear it is not a top range also because of this.
Honestly i think about spend my money for my next phone in Realme phones (except minor phones, maybe mostly supported).

This is not true,I bought the phone at Christmas and have had one update a month with latest security patch.
It has been known now for some time that Android 10 and realmeUI was coming in March so I don't know why people are complaining,
Software support has been on point and no promises were broken

I am referring to relevant updates, if you are happy because of having one update at month without real improvements, you are welcome.
We know about the "promise" of Realme about March update, but the reality is that Realme is slower than other brand, mostly with its top phone.
I don't understand, instead, why people accept everything and prefer to say that his phone is fantastic rather than underline failings, just because has got this phone.

Do you even have this phone ?
The quality of the updates have been decent. No real bugs with the software for most people, though have seen some people complain about minor things that they experience but I think most of us knew colorOs wasn't going to be perfect,
Another update just released today, this is better than most manufacturers,OnePlus for example only give Bi monthly and their releaselog is pretty pathetic at times mentioning improvements to weather app and unknown bug fixes.
Realme is definitely not slower than other brands,it's one of the quickest in actual fact and I for one don't feel at all like I'm accepting everything just because I own the phone,
I'm happy and looking forward to RealmeUI

General I am starting to hate this phone now for one reason!

No custom ROMs. Stupid Xiaomi please release the source and kernel. We are past 4 months and nothing till now. Oneplus 9 pro on the other hand released 5 days before this phone and I see 10+ custom roms in the forum already. Such a great phone with so much user reach and xiaomi doesnt care about software. Only people from China are getting updates every 3 weeks or so (iam not talking about xiaomi.eu rom). Completely neglected Global rom and India rom.
Issue with this company is: It releases 10+ phones in the same price range with different hardware every 6 months and forgets about software completely. If you cant update the software, release the source and kernel for developers atleast!
Agreed
Why u guys talk so much about custom rom?

it's all have a solution, why don't you focus on what actually you using phone for? like play game, multitasking, or take a photo ,etc..
so, let take some experience with another users like me, why you dont try MIUI MIX (MMX Team) it's not bad because it's base on EU ROM.

How do sales compare to s21u or the one plus 9 pro ?
I think the global variant is overpriced tbh.... especially for a Xiaomi phone
Apple can get away with ridiculous prices and even Samsung to some degree but Xiaomi doesn't ring synonymous with prestige flagship grade experience
They're the cheap and cheerful brand...

If i knew that beforehand, I'd never had bought a xiaomi.
And no, the .eu rom doesn't fix any of its problems.

Unbelievable how ignorant (not to say different word) you should be to buy a phone than wait and hope for a custom rom (even though nobody on planet earth promised one).Than you go online and trashtalk the company, the phone and so on,only reason being your own wrong choice.
This is pure stupidity at its best.

Not sure why you get personal here.
I always had phones using a clean and functional OS. I knew that the asian customers prefer it more colorful and I expected exactly this. But what Xiaomi delivers with MIUI is a slap for everyone not deepdiving into their software beforehand.
Why is a compass app installed systemwise? Yes you can disable it and even uninstall it via adb. Why can't you hide apps in the drawer? Lets say I dislike their contacts app and want to use another one, I then have to have both on the drawer without the ability to hide theirs (yes, you can hide some non-system apps behind the app-lock). Why does Onehanded Mode not work with gestures? Why do they force you to wait for 7 days before you can unlock the bootloader and why do you need a sim-card in the phone for this and give them your number?
The "cleaner" app does nothing but spying, even worse that such software doesn't even (ever) work on Linux based OS. Not mentioning the "security" app that is another piece of scam software they integrated some system relevant services into while on the other hand, blocking essential android services and thus create a lot of issues non-existant on other devices.
If you ask me, MIUI as a whole is nothing but a scam. Google sniffing apps can at least be disabled, no chance for the Xiaomi ones.

Here's the reality, there really isn't that much demand for custom roms. However, there are two that I know of, Xiaomi.eu and MIUI MIX. ONE OS may also have one, but I am not sure on that though. And even though you do need kernel info, you can't expect them to release the proprietary info regarding the rear screen and other features. So even if a rom could be made, there are many things that the developers would not be able to make work. For example, the Mi 10 Pro went the greater part of a year before one started to see custom roms for it. Custom roms, back in the day, were updated regularly and in some cases nightly. Now the original rom and security update can be several months old and it might also be several months before a new version appears. In my opinion, it's really not worth it nowadays and the most of the devs seem to have found that out too.
As for their marketing, I too feel they release to many phones, but apparently it's working as they have become number one in the world.

Should I exchange my s20FE 5G with Oneplus 9RT/Mi 11x pro?

I don't have any problems with the device, just that I am used to modding my devices and Samsung has made it very unappealing to root/unlock their phones. So if I trade this device, which is still under warranty, will it be a good deal?
that's gotta be entirely your decision as you've got to live with it. Oneplus 9 might've fixed some of it's heat issues or the community might've solved it, but look into that first. don't know much about the Xiaomi other than you need custom firmware because the stock one isn't good and the cameras aren't bad.
I'm currently running Lineage 19 GSI with a modified quick settings pull down, I'm rooted and have TWRP. the only thing I'm missing that I want is v4a and I could submit logs to get that fixed if I wanted. Samsung phones have had Knox for nearly a decade now, accepting Knox's demise going in is standard for Samsung modders. this phone is a rare chance to a Samsung with a snapdragon that can be rooted/modded for many people. custom roms are being worked on but both devs are new to Samsung and really struggling with a final major bug. if they overcome the problem custom roms will start to come thru with greater ease.

Well that last line gives me hope.
well the truth is the two guys working on roms have been struggling with getting the SIM cards to be recognised for months, to the point of needing to walk away for their sanity. the projects may resume or might not. there are one or two other devs with this phone who've said they'll be waiting until all the official updates are finished releasing. again there, no guarantee they'll even still have the phone by that time.
most guys are using GSI roms for now, they're OK but a full custom rom would be better.
If you like custom roms and development related fun with your device, you should go with xiaomi, xiaomi devices has better developement range and easy way to play with it, but oneplus hasn't as i also own 9rt and i am not a big fan of google dialer and because of only dialer i want to change rom to chinese( as 9rt has only chinese rom and chinese rom might have oneplus dialer ) and i am unable to find a proper thread or guide to get familier with oneplus phone - unlocking bootloader, flashing rom and vice versa. but in same case with xiaomi its easier and lots of videos on youtube too to get it done.
but mi 11 x pro has not a lot of custom roms, instead of this mi 11x has a wide range and you should try this
But one thing keep in mind among all devices you said and includes mi 11x samsnug s20 fe is best as i used all of this devcices and currently i am on 9rt samsung is good with stock rom you do not need to flash any custom rom.
mi 11x has best performance according to price but worst camera, mi 11x pro good phone but so so camera, 9rt is good in 3 of this but no wide range of custom developement.

General MIUI 13 global is just MIUI 12.5

So i just finished updating to MIUI 13 global on my supposedly new Xiaomi 11T Pro. Only to find out that it basically doesn't bring anything new. Literally nothing apart from that completely useless side bar.
The biggest new feature that Xiaomi was hyping everyone with is the new widgets. We'll they're missing. Nothing but the old 2009 looking widgets.
Even Android 12 features like color palettes thems are not included..
I means what's the point of this update. 3.5 gigabytes of update to instal a stupid side bar and some ugly wallpapers.
I'm really disappointed in this phone and in Xiaomi overall. Too bad it's a new phone that i can not change right now. But my next smartphone will definitely not be from Xiaomi.
Sadly i was a fan of this company and their business model. Now they're just taking us for fools.
500 euros phone doesn't get the features that 150 euros phones are getting from the same damn company. What is this.
I'll be going back to Samsung after all.
Have a good one fellas
I also think that 11t pro will be my first and last xiaomi phone, hardware is fine but software side of things is realy bad, im coming from oneplus2 as my last phone and software on that device was better i hope that lineageos will be available for 11t pro also
I'm the same, I've reported a bug and even how to fix it regarding Wi-Fi calling support in the UK (have had the fix on my personal device for a couple of months and it works perfectly but of course just for me) and it really requires Xiaomi to update their modem code. Every Qualcomm device they sell has the bug on EE in the UK due to bad config settings. Despite using the feedback tools months ago, raising it in their official forum which seems to be nothing more than PR management, the bug isn't fixed, and the file I linked to with details of the config settings hasn't been opened by anyone let alone Xiaomi. So just ignored.
They have far too many devices to be able to issue decent software on any of them as they can't have the resources to deal with them all.
Hardware is good, basically Qualcomm reference design with decent screen and camera, but the software is poor and support just doesn't exist.
I will not buying another one of their products ever again.

So i just finished updating to MIUI 13 global on my supposedly new Xiaomi 11T Pro. Only to find out that it basically doesn't bring anything new. Literally nothing apart from that completely useless side bar.

Question MIUI 13 FOR PIXEL 7 (Panther) & pro (Cheetah)

does anyone have an idea if anybody is working on porting miui 13 to G. pixel7 & pro?
usually the google phones get miui within weeks of release of the phone, but i haven't heard
any news on any dev or group talking about working on the rom.
if you have any info on this, please do post what you know with links for us that are interested
to check the info plz.
Guess not
Seriously, why would you want that? Sure, tastes are different, but why would you put a bloated, overstyled, ad-infected and closed source (MIUI Apps and Kits) ROM/OS on a Pixel device which comes with pure Android out of the box? MIUI was once a great ROM and a lot of fun... from 2010 to 2015 or '16 maybe. By now it's something I would really avoid. I understand if folks like Graphene OS, Lineage OS, ROMs based on AOSP on their Pixels. But hell no, I would not desecrate a Pixel with MIUI, Color OS... anything that comes from Xiaomi or BBK Electronics.

Happy to elaborate! Stock OS 13 sucks balls. OnePlus is the only company I seen as of yet who is able to keep the much desired options and functions intact. Android 13 overhauled the entire UI and continued the stupid trend of big, flashy, dumb and hidden , that all systems and devices tend to have. Making everything bigger, harder to find and remove functions that many powers users love is the common trend. I'm up for trying a new ROM that mimicks OnePlus that could potentially give more function and features back. I've never tried MIUI yet but praying for changing out.

You may not have noticed, but BBK Electronics is the company behind Oppo, Vivo, OnePlus, Realme und iQOO and their stock ROMs are going to have or have the same base, which will or has change(d) things for Oxygen OS. BBK is a big ass company, and the Oxygen OS from the original OnePlus has lost it's soul when Oppo merged with OnePlus. BBK is up to max profits, so they try to save money on development and Oxygen OS / Color OS and all that stuff will be (almost) the same I guess. I had a OnePlus 9, and when I realized they did not implement OIS on the regular 9 to upsell the pro model it was the deathblow after being annoyed by the newer OnePlus stuff. I had a Realme GT 2 Pro, and those ROMs are OKish, but having a Pixel somehow feels more like the real thing.
Regarding Xiaomi/MIUI ... why do people get a Pixel 7 and not a Mi 12 Pro, if they prefer some bloated kindergarten OS like MIUI? I had the first MIUI ROMs on my HTC desire back then, was an admin of 2 german MIUI forums, translating the ROM and what not, but as Xiaomi got bigger the overall concept of MIUI/Xiaomi went down the drain and I started to avoid Xiaomi. Sure, they got a lot of cool gadgets and stuff, but screw that company for so many reasons.
Just read today, that the first nightly of Lineage OS is available for Panther... maybe give that one a try before wishing for MIUI. If there would be a MIUI ROM for the newer Pixels, let's hope it would be based on the xiaomi.eu ROM.
Why not just buy a xiaomi phone. I used to love MIUI and Xiaomi things, but not now. I like Xiaomi 13 and will not buy pixel 7 if Xiaomi 13 has some custom rom with well support

Good info but most probably, like myself, pixel choice for the hardware, bands and plethora of accessories.
