The Information Technology guy - Introductions

Hi, first of all I have to explain my xda username:
The "it" stands for information technology. And the "ler" is a German postfix to personalize things ... similar to "er" in the English language.
So I'm a kind of computer and smart device (mainly Samsung) fan
My real name is Markus, am married, have three kids, like playing (beach) volleyball and helping others.
Most of the time I am very busy with work, family and friends, but try to keep "up to date" on xda ... and give support to other users as far as I am able to.
That is why I have joined the recognized contributor team

There is already a thread to say wishes mate..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1988864
Anyway wish you happy Diwali too..
Sent from the MUST have app!
I'm a little confused here. The other thread is saying happy Deewali, but this one is saying happy Depavali (in the title) and happy Deepawal (in the OP). A quick Google search suggests they are all the same holiday, but I wanted to make sure before I offend anyone.

That is because in karnataka where I live we speak language called kannada.. its deepavali in Kannada.. but in Hindi which is national language they say it as Diwali... so south Indians call it deepavali.. north Indians know this festival as Diwali..
The Meaning is same The Festivel of Lights
Hope I made it clear

Yes, very clear. Thank you.
For organization's sake, lets contain all Diwali/Deepavali disussion in the earlier thread. Thanks.

Went crazy again.

And again, one of our device developer and contributor stopped AGAIN a development in progress which leaves us hanging on his ROM with no more updates and support coming from him again in the future.
Meticulus, you are a good developer YES. We admire your works but abandoning an unfinished projects all over again will ruin your reputations.
Whatsoever it is. Godbless you..

We shall, see. In my signature there is a screen shot that shows that XDA Moderators are trying to force me to change my location tag. I did not want to but I changed it to the famous quote "Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges". Which is a Latin phrase, which means "In times of war the law falls silent." It is also the name of an episode of "Star Trek: DS9" which I happen to like. The moderator seemed to think that that I was personally attacking him or that this too was a "political view" and that it was not in "English". Tomorrow I will change my location tag back to what it was originally and replace the image I had in my signature which they removed. If moderators leave my account alone, then I might continue.
Please, mistakes have been made and our Developer Relations team will be working with Meticulous to resolve. Infraction was reversed some time ago. Please give us some time to do this without further stirring emotions.
Thanks for the passion you all bring to XDA!
We apologize, we have reversed infraction within minutes of issuing, sent 2 apologies and tried to resolve issues with the Developer Relations Team. Many PMs have gone back and forth with the DRT. Unfortunately Meticulous would rather continue to use XDA to make his political views known against our rules. A cool off period has been issued. Hopefully he will see the importance of his development to all his followers.
Thank you all for keeping XDA the #1 site for Android development!

G'day Cobbers

G'day
I'm David, and have been a member of XDA since 2006, back when Windows Mobile 5 ruled the forums, and Android hadn't even been thought about.
I currently work in IT Support at a University in Australia. Previously I was a project engineer with a defence contractor. I worked in avionics/electronics, and doing the company IT on the side. I have a B/Eng in IT, and am also qualified to work on aircraft avionics, though I haven't done that for a long time!
I'm obviously Scottish , but moved to Australia in 2001 when I was 21.
I was a BIG fan of the early O2 devices (O2 XDA II, XDA IIs etc), then progressed to HTC WM devices. I even made a few ROMs for the HTC Touch Diamond, which were quite popular
Then when Android was ported to the HD2, I gave it a try, and instantly moved across and never looked back!
I joined the XDA moderator team in 2010, and progressed my way up to Assistant Admin to @MikeChannon (he's not as bad as people say )
The mod team are a great bunch! Keep an eye out for our recruitment notices that go out every now and again
If you need help with anything forum related, please feel free to contact me directly. I can help with name changes, passwords, forum or account issues, pretty much anything

So what’s a Cobber?
In the Yiddish dialect of Hebrew, a cobber is a friend, comrade or good companion. In old Australian slang, a cobber is a good buddy, a pal (‘ga day, cobber!) And in Britain a cobber is someone to take a liking to.

My translator (https://www.dict.cc/) just says it's Australian slang for buddy or mate. In German we call it "Kumpel".
Haha yea, it's Aussie slang for friend or mate
And I met and married an Aussie, and moved to Australia when I was 21.

The current flood is in the north of Sydney ... region around Port Macquarie.
Neither my cousins nor David seem to be affected luckily

Good evening everyone :-)

Hello and thank you for letting this old sod join XDA
I'm by no means an expert when it comes to tech but more of an enthusiast although I am the one many of my family and friends come to when needing help and/or technical advice and I even sort out iPhones when a cousin of mine manages to forget her details
I've only ever owned 1 iPhone and that was a iPhone 3 and since then I've been an Android fan when it comes to phones and streaming devices.
I've often delved in and out of XDA when doing any research for gadgets or tech support so at 54 I thought it was high time I signed up.
Cheers.
Pete.
