Question Install of YouTube Vanced blocked - Xiaomi Mi 11

Hi all,
Anybody any idea how to install YouTube Vanced on a stock Mi11?
I've installed the manager and microg from apkmirror but can't install YouTube Vanced as still being blocked.
The previous method of disabling miui optimisations from developer options is no longer there.
.... Alternatively any other way to have YouTube with less/no ads?
Any help appreciated

If your shell can be run as root, search for ad and tracking hosts lists on the net and place them inside of your /system/etc/hosts file.
Also, you could use the app "Blockada".
Those methods will block ads and tracking systemwide, however...

Use puretuber

sorry didn't read the last bit of your question.

You might need to disable MIUI optimization in the developer options. Always work for me. Also fixes a lot of notification issues.

But the MIUI Optimization is not displayed for everyone. For some people, the entry is not there under developer options (like in my case). If you search under settings, it shows the entry but when you click on the search result, it brings you to the developer options where MIUI optimization is not displayed. Seems to be hidden.
Just wondering why for some users it is there and for others not.

Hm I see. I saw the same kind of behavior on the F2 Pro forums before. My only guess is either the region you set, or the MIUI version (globale, Europe, China).
I bought the Chinese version (with region set to France), and the option is there for me.
But yeah, if you don't have it, you either have to use another app/version of Vanced, or deal with the manual installation that requires a PC, Split APK installer and the Shizuku app (kinda a pain to install a single app, but used to do that since I really wanted it on my F2 pro).

Makes sense, thanks for the explanation. I have the global version and the region is set to Germany. The interesting thing though is that several persons bought over the same shop as I did (was a special offer) and some have MIUI displayed and others (like me) do not have it. Maybe phones coming out of different factories or different production lines may cause this.
For now, I will wait to install Vanced. I hope that MIUI 12.5 fixes those things, if not, then I will go the route via Xiaomi EU ROM.

Hello guys,
I have the mi 11 ultra china rom and i do have the option to disable miui optimizations in developer mode.
The problem is that as soon as i do that the fonts look really big and they don't resolve when tweaking the font size etc.
Do you know what are the downsides of disabling the miui optimizations from the developer mode ?
Mind you the rom is working flawlessly so far , i have all the notifications and functions ok.
Thanks !

Unfortunately, I don't think anyone outside MIUI developers will be able to say in details what MIUI optimization really does. All we have is a "global idea" and guesses from experience.
As you experienced, disabling optimization may affect the way MIUI look, mostly the default launcher and fonts. Your icons may look a bit different as well.
Some people report that disabling optimization improves their battery life, while others say the opposite. Same thing for floating windows: for most people it still work, but a few reported that the feature is no longer working while optimization is turned off.
So disabling it may or may not break MIUI-specific features, it really depends on your device from what we see.
Overall, we can't be sure what it will do on your specific device/version. You'll likely have to test by yourself.
Even though I always disable optimizations when I'm on the official ROM, just know that some developers, specifically the devs at Xiaomi.eu, recommend you to keep it on.

Thanks for the info @Eidenz , will keep it on and monitor closely the battery life as well the behavior of the aps.
So far I'm pretty amazed that everything is working flawlessly.
I'm not sure I want to switch to xiaomi.eu but will see..
As a workaround I'm using blokada with some youtube ads blocking list.
It's mostly ok but I do see the ads at the start and sometimes at the end of the video, but not the ads during the video.
Cheers !

No worries. There are even more workarounds if you're interested:
You can disable MIUI optimization to install Youtube Vanced, and then turn it back on. The app will keep working, the problem is only in the installation process.
You may also install Vanced manually using your PC by following the official tutorial: https://www.reddit.com/r/Vanced/wiki/installation
Or you may use that "Pure Tuber" app that got mentionned at the top of this post. Not as great imo, but does the job.

I found out that once I installed YouTube Vanced and enabled optimizations back, Vanced didn't want to work.
Basically it loaded but was faced with a continuous loading screen on each tab of the application.
Tried pure tuber but from what I saw it does consume a bit more power and also the navigation isn't as good as in YouTube Vanced , plus the video resizing is kinda wonky.

Hm, that's weird. I guess it got worse than it used to be on older MIUI versions (and devices).

I flashed Xiaomi EU rom and I can install YouTube Vanced via Vanced Manager now.

You can also use NewPipe:
NewPipe - a free YouTube client
newpipe.net

With my Redmi Note 10 (EU version M2101K7AG) I was able to install YTVanced after disabling the MIUI optimizations. I enabled them right away after installation and until now I haven't noticed any difference.
Then I updated the system to MIUI Global 12.0.3 and lost the possibility of disabling the optimizations in the developer options.
The only issue I notice sometimes is when opening YTVanced it keeps saying there is no internet connection. I have to go to microg settings and disable the battery optimizations for that app.
I hope that MIUI developers fix this soon cause it is so annoying having to research for workarounds just to install an apk. If I knew this before, I think I would have went with a Realmi instead.

I have a P40 Pro on the way, i have had many Huawei phones and think what Huawei are doing with HMS is a massive undertaking in the west. Only huawei can pull it off. Each day HMS is getting better and these forums and huawei community are really helping me get used to this new experience.
HMS is not perfect at the moment but when i remember the failures of the BB and Windows - Huawei are going in the right direction and not following those mistakes.
Politics and biases aside. I look forward to seeing more fantastic hardware from huawei and the software is going in the right direction.
I'm amazed to see diehearts like you folks willing to stick to Huawei HMS and refuse to serrender to Google GMS. I'm equally inspired by Huawei which is striving their best to reach out to 1.4mil developers worldwide to port their esteemed apps over to Huawei AppGallery. It's becoming quite usable lately as more and more local everyday used apps have been made available on the AppGallery. :victory:

If notifications worked reliably with HMS-naked, then it would be very easy for me to stick with HMS-naked ... unfortunately notifications really suck, hence I am stuck with a HMS+microG install for now ... but at least that is better than HMS+GMS.
Let me know when notifications are fixed on HMS-naked, then I will uninstall microG.

go to thread in this P40 Pro forum .. i think it was in the recent thread in this forum for nova ... linked back to a german forum .. but here is below ...
microG
https://microg.org/
1. Perform a factory reset of the phone.
2. Install F-Droid app
3. Add this repo into F-Droid .... https://microg.org/fdroid/repo
4. In F-Droid, then install MicroG Services Core.
5. In F-Droid, then Install MicroG Services Framework Proxy.
6. In F-Droid, then Install the MicroG FakeStore.
6. Open the Microg Settings app. Grant it all permissions and disable battery optimizations.
7. Add your Google account.
8. Turn on Device Registration, Cloud Messaging and SafetyNet.
9. Restart your phone.
10. Open Microg Settings app, check the status under Cloud Messaging. If it says not connected enter the following in the phone app: *#*#2432546#*#* and restart your phone. Check the status again - it should say Connected. (I had to enter the phone string and restart my phone twice until it said connected).
11. Install apps
12. Check connection in microG app for Google Cloud Messaging
All this will give you is push notifications with Google Cloud Messaging (including the Google Firebase messaging).
I also had notification issues caused by either Huawei PowerGenie and Android Doze .. if the notifications work and then suddenly stop after an hour or so, then try these ..

microG is a small open-source app .. used in many custom ROMs for years .. simple, quick to install, and less risk of update hassles, and easy to uninstall later if needed, and still very close to HMS-naked, it just provides notification access to google push notifications (google cloud messaging and google firebase cloud messaging).
if you want to use google apps, then this really isn't the phone to buy .. all the hassles & problems with GMS and then what is the benefit of the P40 Pro .. just a camera with DXOMARK score of 128, when you could have bought another android phone with a DXOMARK score of 123 .. virtually no difference.
but microG gets us pretty close to HMS-naked (when the notifications get fixed with HMS-naked, then I will go HMS-naked).
the first microG install might take 15 mins .. but if you ever need to install again, it is about a 3 minute process once familiar.

i would like to know the answer to this question .. i.e.
a) can huawei update HMS Core with to make apps compatible with huawei cloud messaging system ... or
b) is the only option for wait months or years for all the various app developers to update their apps for huawei cloud messaging system?
hopefully it is (a)
on the huawei forums, one of the regular users, said that the notification problems were a EMUI 10.1 problem .. so I'm not really sure yet
Depending on how easy it is for developers to add HMS and get officially listed in AppGallery.
Hoping it's as simple as
if gms. Not Installed then.... Hms.Notification() else gms.Notification();
Without checking any of the Dev guides or codes.
It wouldn't be too big an undertaking

Using MicroG with Mate 40 Pro

I would like to start a new thread and discuss technical details of getting some of the GMS functionality for EMUI 11 devices with example of Mate 40 Pro.
I have installed the standard MicroG services and with the latest version Firebase notifications seem to work for the most of the application I use.
There is still a problem with login when using the standard MicroG GMS Core Service as it seems Google banned specific Huawei devices from logging in.
There is a fork/workaround/patch created by EloYGomeZ for the older version (I think it is even used by Googlefier) which allows log in but this version of the Core Service does not cover notifications.
Then there is another fork created by a different user jcchikikomori. So I took his version and created signed APK for my own testing. Both notification and login seem to work but the apps do not recognize the Google account. It is visible under the accounts and I can select sync options.

Happy to discuss further with anybody who has additional ideas clues. Would be happy if jcchikikomori and @eloygomez could join the discussion here.

Vanced is different from the normal MicroG package. Vanced Youtube app is patched and is not checking signatures of specific Vanced MicroG components and also Vanced developer implemented Huawei specific login fix.
The regular MicroG installation does allow Huawei phones to login and even if you use patched version then the accounts are not listed or picked up in the apps.
To be able to login in Vanced, use the indications from these pictures.
Download the zips, extract the apps (or dowload them from Apkmirror page or other store), install them WITHOUT starting Vanced, go to MicroG - setting - switch off "Google cloud messaging" (first) and "Google device registration". After that you can login in Vanced with your account.
This is the Vanced page where you can see I'm logged in ...
LE: BTW, I'm on 11.0.0.127(C432E6R4P1), NOH-NX9.
Not sure what are you trying to explain here. Vanced MicroG works with login and YouTube Vanved without any issue and in parallel to the usual MicroG which js required for push notifications in a lot of apps. There is also a patched version of the usual MicroG that allows login in but the other Goolge apps like maps or google photos do not accept that login procedure.
I probably misunderstood that you can't log in and show your account in the application ...
Are you referring to this display?
(Setting - accounts - vanced microG - display or not the account)
In the end, it matters that the application works ... no matter how ...

No, again, I have no issue with Vanced MicroG. The issue is with the usual MicroG.
I was able to use Micro G to get google play services natively working on my Mate 40 RS. Seems Chinese variants at least at latest current firmware can be exploited to allow this to work still. Seems maybe, Huawei doesn't seem to care or purposely have allowed the LZ Play to continue to function? John Wang on Youtube has a working tutorial, from what I saw from other people it doesn't seem to work on International Mate 40's though.

The only thing I can think you could possibly try is sideloading the google apps, start with google account manager first and have the huawei patched microg installed, then try to add the google account to your device, at this point then try to sideload the google apps in the correct order from John Wang's tutorial. It's worth a try at least.
With MicroG and YouTube Vanced installed (I can login into Vanced), I've installed Google account manager, but I couldn't add the Google account.
International version ...
Sily question, can MicroG helps other apps? Or just for Youtube Vanced?

Youtube Vanced's micro g fork only works for Vanced apps, doesn't work for google play services at all. I don't mean to be negative but unless you have the Chinese version of the Mate 40 series you are basically SOL.

Don't bother installing gapps. It will never function normal. Best thing to do is BE PATIENT, unlock bootloader and flash EU or global rom.It will take 7 days but it will worth it. Chinese rom with externally installed gapps is not quite stable and it has too many clashes with chinese versions of the same program such as Get Apps Store which basically reminds you that it is there every time.

Chinese firmware is best one out there. I need google services as much as you do. After unboxing you already have basic google services (example to add Google account). All you have to do is download Play Store.
Chinese apps ? So easy to remove them (of course without root).
You saying "Get Apps Store" is not is not useful? Only from there you can update your system apps ! (Example: today I received update on "rear display". Many fixes in this update actually)
After all I realized I have everything I need. Phone with minimum Google background processing, but with full support of anything i want. 3-4% battery drain overnight lmao...is very respectful. (Stock Root it/Adaway)
And yes enjoy your EU rom with micro lags in open/close apps and luck of 120Hz in many places.
Global is old firmware and loaded with google bloatware in a system.

I did everything to stay on stock Chinese Rom. Initially the phone came opened and some staff installed already. I prefer a fresh install. I did exactly what the first post says. Factory reset and boom no play store. I found every program I need out there in the wild apk services. They worked fine but Some had issues with update some was behaving strange like no notification etc. Stock Chinese ROM is great but I sometimes use French characters and built in Roboto Font was not looking pleasant. I did non-root debloating too but still it wasn't great. I accidentally removed some programs that was important for keyboard for some reason. Furthermore, I even use Chinese Rom now but it is EU Rom with weekly beta updates. It has the latest firmware, miui 12.6. For example you received the latest rear display update and its news recently but rear display was updated here already. I can use rear display to shot vlog videos or slow motion videos etc. The charger takes 30 mins to bring the phone battery to an acceptable level. So, even if it drains overnight, it takes 30 mins to have your phone juiced up. Another point to mention is sim card and some payment methods are designed for China in Chinese Rom and you can't select some settings directly. There are workarounds for sure but why bother when there is an easily customisable settings in EU ROM.
Appreciate all the info!!! Think I am all set now. Trying to get the last few things setup. Moving from a OnePlus 7T Pro McClaren. First impression of this is amazing.

Well vivo, from which place are you buying it from?
Ive seen the phone before, if its from India then it would have google apps etc.
And you would get security updates and you would have google photos.
In my mind, only China imported phones don't have google services sometimes.

uh oh, I ordered it from Hong Kong. fingers crossed then. should have asked here first.
Welllllll, its probably likely theres no google services, but when you get it just post a thread if you don't have it and tag me. Ill try to help you install the global version of the rom on it.
Yeah china banned google atuff with google play so your best bet is to wait till uou recieve it and flash the global rom or you should cancel and choose smth else.

Can you explain how to install funtouch os firmware?
Hi,
I've got the chinese version too, and I'm based in Switzerland.
Actually, it's working good, but not perfect. Some things are missing or not working perfectly and some things are hard coded chinese. But as a daily driver for taking perfect photos, calling/messaging its "working".
Some points:
- Google (Play) Services preinstalled, can be loaded through the vivo app store when installing gmail app
- Backup/Syncing working, but the initial restore from an old phone is not offered through google initial setup
- google photos, maps and so on are working, only location history can't be enabled.
- Regular OriginOS updates
- some chinese default bloatware preinstalled, some can be uninstalled
- no google now, just a chinese vivo version
- android auto doesn't work atm
- some fine tuning necessary with default apps, and so on
- google pay, banking apps working
Over all, it's working for me, but i'm missing some tiny bits, which a global rom could fix. But in comparison what you get (camera, performance, display, price...), it's a aceptable device for me.
If you need specific infos, just leave me a note.
If there's a global rom, i would be interessfed too.

thanks for all that info. mine is currently in transit to me. i feel much better after reading your comments. i love taking pictures and that is my main reason for getting this phone. will for sure reach out with questions if needed after I get it.
You won't regret it. This phone just captures perfect photos. Even in comparisson to the samsung s21 ultra. My opinion (and my wife with a s21 ultra).
Some things are annyoing but i can live with it. I mean, I can even do phone calls
Just a night shot from now 2 a.m. - it's dark outside and this camera manages to capture photos like its late afternoon...

Oh google play services are preinstalled?
That's actually new to me.
Sorry, I guess I was kind of misleading with google being removed. It was banned in china but I did not know that google play services still worked.
I received it on Friday. Chinese version definitely. But Google Play Store already installed. I downloaded all the normal Google apps like Android Messages, Chrome, Contacts & Calendar and they all seem to be perfect. Thinking now, I didn’t download Maps yet. There was an originOS update available and a couple of apps had their own also, like I believe the Camera app. So I'm relieved that updates do come through.
First impressions are positive. It is sleek. Kind of nice how it comes with a screen protector pre installed and it comes with a pretty nice back cover.
I "had to have" this because like I said I love taking photos. Just for reference I have a Sony Xperia 1 ii (for sale on ebay), a Galaxy S21 Ultra (going back to Amazon) and a 12 Pro Max. I shot a lot of photos today with the X60 Pro+. They are all nice. A couple though came out tremendously well. I think to get similar photos I would have had to get my Sony a7C or Sigma fp with a fast 85mm to get the same shot. I for sure would not have gotten the same quality from my other smartphones.
Anyways I don’t think I will try to get the global software on this. Seems like I'll be good.

Hi from Austria perfect Summary i totally agree with you, i am happy with the China version, for that price ~ 750€ you will get nice hardware, OriginOS is also nice, i like the gesture navigation, but im missing google maps location history so much, there is some restriction on China for google services, because china dont want to be tracked by usa google... other brands from china have same issue with location history.
I found in this thread with some fix for rooted phones to enable ROM to use location history:
Ennable Google Maps Location Sharing & Location History on Chinese MIUI ROM
You need Magisk properly installed on your ROM and then download & install the following modules:
Releases · fei-ke/unlock-cn-gms
去除国行 GMS 某些限制. Contribute to fei-ke/unlock-cn-gms development by creating an account on GitHub.

[Magisk module] Google location history unlock for Chinese MIUI roms only
Hi, posting my Magisk mod that I am using since couple of years. This mod works and testen on K20 pro, Note 7 Pro and K30 Pro Zoom Edition. What does it do? It enabled Google location History in Google maps. This is only needed for Chinese roms...

maybe @Kenora_I can help us to flash Global Rom from India... hopefully without brickung our phones
@Kenora_I is it possible to flash Global Rom with banking apps working to pay with nfc ?
best regards
Hello Everyone.
I am about to buy this phone but still having some doubts because of the OriginOS. I live in New Zealand. Just would like to ask a couple of questions:
- does it allow to install and use Nova Launcher with gestures?
- is this notification bar and settings bar changeable or at least can set up some gestures for that? Otherwise it requires to touch the top edge of the phone which is not perfect for me
- notifications are visible in Always on Display from FB, whats up, non stock phone or messages apps or not at all?
- does anyone use that with company portal and MS Authenticator? and its working fine?
- how is the battery life - roughly SOT?
I will be really grateful for any help!
Thank you!
Peter

Since nobody wants to answer, I will, but I don't use X60 pro+. I have IQOO and had x50 pro+ and therefore the answer can't fail a lot.
1. I didn't try Nova, but I installed Star Prime and it works with gestures as long as you don't uninstall original launcher.
2. Not that I'm aware of.
3. Don't use unsecure apps, but the custom dialer and messages are supported on AOD.
4. Don't use work portal, but there is no reason to not work.
5. Battery is good, one day with heavy use, two with moderate.

Not exactly true, Samsung does send you stuff all the time and if you use a system app, like members, you'll see them also. While all ads are annoying, you can opt out of them during the setup process on Xiaomi phones. Perhaps you missed that part?
Hi and thx for ur replay. I opt them out already sir. But still have ads. And another thing that i found, the font style is missing too. Or am i a dumb?
That should be in display, However, the Xiaomi.eu rom has no ads. You should try that.
Ok My friend ill try it. About the font style no show everywhere.
I am running a Xiaomi.eu rom and the font settings are in display.
I don't get what ROM you are using, anyway to deactivate ads you must go into settings, privacy, authorization and revocation and deactivate the related apps (daemon, ads, analytics) then for each MIUI app go into settings and set to off "receive raccomandations". Regarding Google apps you must set to off ads options into settings->Google. To remove ads into chrome you can't do anything but installing a different browser, I do recommend Kiwi browser which is basically a copy of chrome with an in built ad blocker
