blinking light under display - Motorola Edge Guides, News, & Discussion

I noticed a pulsating light beneath the display; top-left, a bit southeast of the front camera. It is prevelent beneath light screens while the home wallpaper obfuscates it. But, it's there in lineage and not there on stock. I restored stock and then reinstalled the latest lineageos and it definately wasn't there in stock and is there from initial setup in lineage.

I also just noticed the same light up near the front camera just to the right of it. I am running stock Android 10 but I did have a blue light filter and brightness dimmer app running when I noticed.

Yeah, me too! It nearby the front cam

yeah, what's up with that crazy sensor?

have a solution for this?

Turn the sensors off. Check in developer options, quick settings developer tiles for the sensors tile to add.

[Q] Do ALL camera apps set the brightness to full?

Hi,
I have noticed the default camera app sets the display brightness to full when loaded. It's irritating since the picture you see on the display when taking the picture is different from when you view it in the gallery.
So I installed Quicksnap and noticed it does the same.
So, do ALL the camera apps do this or is there some way to stop it happening?
Thanks all,
Oobly

you might want to check the outdoor visibility in the settings of the camera
That's with outdoor visibility off. With it set to on it goes even brighter and oversaturates the colours. Anyone else got some feedback on this?
Thank you.
Well, from scratching around in the ROM and looking at kernel source code it looks like the mDNIe settings are to blame. There are different profiles for different display tasks and the camera ones seem to be setting the brightness up. Will play around with the files associated with each profile, maybe I can fix it meself.

[Q] How do you turn off auto-focus

As a "proper" camera, the unit seems to be missing some things I'd expect by default. How do you turn off auto-focus an focus manually... taking pictures at night - the stars etc - invariably the images are out of focus.
Also auto-exposure control - you can turn that off easily for images but for videos there seems to be no way to turn off the auto exposure - which makes the end product look very amateurish.
Finally whenever I go out at night, the LCD dims, I can't seem to stop that and it dims WAY too much?
Any ideas chaps?

It appears that you cannot turn Auto Focus off but you might be able to find a third party camera app in the Play Store that allows this
Settings for video are sparse it's true and again there is no control over the exposure etc.
I didn't notice the LCD dimming, The camera doesn't have an auto brightness LCD so I am not sure what's causing that. Turning the brightness up from the drop down notification bar is easy enough though.
Sorry these are not the answers you are looking for but we have to remind ourselves that this is a premium camera not a pro camera however.

Thanks for that. I will indeed look out for such an app. Agree with you that it's not a "pro" camera - but for example - on the iPhone who's video handling is equally dire, there's an app that completely compensates by letting you shoot 16:9 with auto exposure, auto focus and auto-white all turned off at the touch of a button. This camera really does need such controls to make it useful for anything other than "party" videos. Its a big disappointment that Samsung would miss off such obvious controls having taken the effort to make a special camera app in the first place.
there are only 2 focus modes as far as I can tell, auto and macro.
night sky shots have worked fine for me using auto focus though.
I made some nice pictures of a crescent moon without a tripod or manual focus, and it was sharp enough to see the craters on the moon.
using manual camcorder under expert you can set the brightness, and white balance for video recording manually(wb is under the settings gear)
lcd dimming: settings gear - general - display brightness
the settings gear is hidden under the > and the expert mode can be accessed through the mode button.
don't be so afraid to dig a bit through settings.
I often see complaints about missing/misbehaving features in apps when it's all available through a settings screen.
EDIT: apprentice: auto brightness works using the camera sensor, so it only works while in the camera app.
Thanks for that - so solved the LCD brightness, but I've gone through all the settings and cannot figure out how to turn off the auto-focus or the auto-brightness. Put your hand in front of the lens - and both kick in whether you want them or not... any ideas anyone?

As far as I can tell in camcorder mode, the one thing you can set - brilliance- is only relative brilliance - the exposure still bobs up and down like a YoYo.... making the movies look terrible - surely guys there has to be a way to turn this off?

Light Bleed ?

From what has been doing the rounds, it seems as if the issue is real, but so far nobody has proved that it exists, with side by side comparisons showing different wallpapers or by playing videos.
Passing up on this phone would be quite unfortunate as there really is no true alternative to the Nokia 6.1 Plus, with bootloader unlocked, of course.
It'd be great if anyone could show how exactly the bottom area looks, on loading up different kinds of contents :fingers-crossed:

There is not light bleed. The light bleed that seems like is the navbar gradient on android oreo. I am a moto one power user and I assure you. There is no light bleed even at max brightness!
Some youtubers
Some youtubers done lcd test and we can see screen bleeding issue. On a plain black or grey background screen bleeding issue can be seen.
please, Prove it.
I tried, and i am confused

I got my phone 2 days back and the first thing i noticed was brightness on the bottom part of the phone (bottom part of navbar) was more than rest of the area.
I tried with 3 apps "Quora" "Whatsapp" and "Curiosity".
When i launched Quora, Navbar gradient was observed and it looks like backlight bleeding.
But when i launch Whatsapp or Curiosity, the navbar gradient disappears even at max brightness.
So i think this is not backlight bleeding, but i can't verify this with other apps, or even while watching videos on full screen.
this is definitely confusing. we need more data.
Bleeding
Backlight bleeding only visible on some background Colors. Is there anyone on Xda that can prove it that it is or it is not bleeding

What is there to "prove" ?
Take it from users who use the device daily. And coming to the YouTube reviews, aren't the review devices pre production? How good is the hardware there? The navbar gradient is implemented in a weird way by motorola which makes it feel like the light bleed in most of the apps. But I can assure you that its not there. I have tested extensively and you need to physically see it to understand the difference. You cannot visualise it over photos on the internet.
I mean if you people can remove that gradient and show us

No, what i meant was..... Moto does not give any UI option to user to disable Navbar gradient.
It's either system controlled or app controlled, i am not sure.
And like i said earlier, its not visible in all apps. so does not look like backlight bleeding.
Screen Bleeding Issue Solved.
For those who are wondering about the Screen Bleeding issue with the #MotorolaOnePower Let me clear out this for you, Yes, screen bleeding issue is present and it is ARTIFICIAL. (I don't know why but it is) And can easily be fixed via software updates.
How to disable it?
Install "Navbar Apps" from play store and make the navigation bar colour to solid white/black to overcome those ARTIFICIAL SCREEN BLEEDING issue or wait for the #Android9Pie Which probably will fix this issue.
Hope it helps.

What I think to test it. If this is software based gradient or artificial then screenshot can capture it. If screenshot can't capture that gradient it means it is screen bleeding. Can anyone test it and upload screenshotss?

It's the same as we can see in screenshot and yes I never believed that it's an light bleed issue...!!
As I have tested the same with some display tester app but I don't see any light bleed issue with higher brightness whatsoever...!! So it's a intended UI effect and not an issue...!!

The gradient is an overlay applied on the screen. It is similiar to the Night Light feature, when you capture screenshots with Night Light on, you don't see it in the screenshot.
Hope that helped clear confusions!

Trying to identify camera mode

When launching the camera app in LOS, there's a strange icon on the screen, I can neither recognize nor find its purpose. It's the third symbol from the right at the top of the screen. It looks like something inside a circle, surrounded by some stars. If tapped, a slider appears on the screen, with a setting from "low" to "high", but I simply can't find out what it does.
What is this slider and this camera mode supposed to do?
Provide a screenshot, please.
Here you are. It's the symbol in the middle, and it's blue, because it's active. The slider belongs to this symbol, when deactivating this mode, the slider disappears.
Still no ideas, anyone?

Question Rear display

In the leaked videos, the user was able to show the homescreen with icons on the rear display. Was that any early MIUI version option only?
In the current firmware, it's not possible... Laybe later?
Anyway, I don't see myself using an app on it, it's really small for that, + it'd require UI changes from the devs...

I would like to use it to answer with speaker or decline calls. Also use it for quick responses to text.
I have noticed I can skip songs on the Spotify playlist when it's playing by accidentally touching the rear display
( I haven't found anything useful to do with it yet tbh and I hope they improve the functionality of it )
Ohh nice! As of now it's pretty early, I'm sure they'll add those little things during updates

I haven't found any way to enable that home screen in rear panel but I haven't been trying either tbh
I don't think I'm getting the red notification light on the rear display either like it shows in the Xiaomi presentation vids but maybe I just need to enable it somehow
I usually don't set my phone's with the screen facing downwards on tables anyway so it's got limited usefulness to me anyway whether it works or not

The latest update to the 'Rear Display' app breaks the red notification indicator as far as I can tell.
But to enable it/change appearance
go to settings>special features>rear display.

I'm on the EU 12.5.3 and I like it but I think I have no red light flashing on the back screen for notifications although it is enabled in the settings...
One of the issues is the rear screen can only stay on for 30 seconds max which maybe why people think the notification is not working properly ( because you would have to double tap to see it even if it is working properly)
And who likes to set their phone face down anyway? These screens are fragile and very expensive !
Honestly think they just had a screenshot of their home screen and made it the image I never actually seen anyone able to use the mini screen
Yeah they haven't ironed the kinks out pertaining to the rear display.
Out of the box, I had the red led indicator show up although it would be there even when I had no notifications.
I like it as a novelty feature but they really need to address the functionality bit.
