Question Strange camera flicker SOLVED - Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra

Not sure if I have a hardware issue or a bug with 12.5.3 EU ROM.
In indoor lighting the viewfinder on my camera flickers like crazy. I've toggled every option of HDR from on auto off. Rebooted. You name it. It almost seems like the camera is rapidly changing color profiles or something odd.
I'll probably factory reset or something. Just hope it's not hardware this ea rly.
Update: It appears to be fixed by disabling the advance motion tracking that helps snap photos of kids and pets.

Glad you got it sorted and provided feedback!

Possible camera slowdown fix?

Hi,
I seem to have found a way to stop the ridiculous lag on the camera, although I'm not sure this will work for everyone.
I have a non-standard version of the Camera software installed (I think it's the Touch version from somewhere on here - not sure who, I'm pretty new here so please forgive me), but I've noticed that if I start the camera up, then put the device into standby for a few seconds, then turn it back on again, the camera is *far* more responsive, and this is for both still images and for video.
I have no idea why this is - someone more technically intimate with the Kaiser can probably shed some light on it, but it seems to work for me.
The only downside I can see is that it makes the low-light compensation stop working, but in situations with plenty of light there's no difference whatsoever in image/video brightness.
Andy.
Ya, weird how this works. This work around was discussed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=365345
camera is ugly?

Moto X (2nd Gen) Camera

OK so we all know the camera is not so great (right now) I know we have the same sony camera as the other flagships but ours doesn't work as well. My symptoms are focusing problems, always trying to focus and being out of focus half the time....and after taking picture when I open gallery the picture is darker. My wife just got an iPhone 6 today and her freaking pictures look great and i hate that[emoji35]
So my question is......Can this be fixed by Motorola through the app? Is this a software issue that can be fixed with an update? Is Motorola aware of this and have they addressed it? I know the 2013 moto x had similar problems and they fixed it with an update so maybe the same for us? Thanks s in advance!
PS....is anyone else having a problem with weather apps radar animating? With WeatherBug I get all frames on top of each other..with others when I hit play I just get spinning wheel...an ideas?
I have the same problem with WeatherBug. Could be a 4.4.4 issue.

For the camera, wait until Android L is all I can say. I want L soon
Image quality improvements have been promised for the next update, that would be Android L.*
Android L is itself a big deal for imaging because it exposes the entire picture/video taking pipeline to camera apps... that means someone can write a camera app with their own picture processing algorithms which in our case can definitely help us with the quality issue

Front camera
I'm not impressed with the rear camera at all. Here's to hoping it can be corrected with a software update, saw that happen on my Nexus 5 and it made a wold of difference. Anyone else have HUUUGE lag issues with the front facing camera?! I was trying to take a picture with my son and it was horrible
Haven't been impressed with the camera yet either. Still gets tons of noise in indoor lighting situations (not even that low of light) with or without flash (obviously worse without flash). It's also slow to focus, attempts to refocus a few times with the flash, and by then the subject has moved (unless stationary). I knew the camera wouldn't be great, but was hoping for something at least closer to the G3 or S5. I'm not confident they'll fix this with a software update. They can probably improve some of the focus and lighting algorithms, but I'm worried some of it is just the optics they used being inferior. I don't feel that it is much worse than the original Moto X (except that it actually seems slower to take pictures at the moment), but I was really wanting to upgrade my phone camera for use with my kid (13 months old, so getting faster and faster...)
Ok I feel stupid.......So after being on the phone with Moto for an hour and a factory reset I have found out my problem with having dark photos in the gallery. I had auto brightness on and when I would preview a pic from the camera the pictures were standard brightness for a second and then black screen then the picture appeared, but darker. If you turn off auto brightness the dark image problem goes away. I did notice the black screen for a second goes away with Auto off as well, so I told level 3 tech support that they may have a bug with the auto brightness on and she said she was going to reproduce this on a few moto devices including the 2014 Moto X and report my comments to the right people. I hope this helps others with Auto Brightness on wondering why pictures are so dark....Or maybe I am the only idiot..lol

The 2013 X works this way too. When you open the camera with auto brightness on, it turns the brightness up higher (not sure if this is based on the current auto level or just a set brightness). When you view a photo it starts out at the higher brightness, but then it switches back to auto brightness (which is darker). It is unfortunate that the switch back to auto brightness is delayed and preceded by the screen going full black, since those two things make it very noticeable
Yaaaaaay....I am not the crazy or the only one....lol

Camera Flicker - Anybody else had it?

Since getting the phone I've noticed that the camera picture flickers to start with then re-focuses and smooths out.
This happens on Google Camera, in picture & video mode. Seems to also occur in snapchat etc.
Running unlocked and rooted stock 5.0.1 rom with lean kernel. As I said before I think the phone did it when I first got it too.
Here is a quick video which shows for the first few seconds the flicker. (this can sometimes last much longer).
Anybody else had this or know the cause?

The flickering is due to the antibanding filter trying to adjust to the frequency of the light bulbs (60 Hz in the US and 50 Hz in Europe).
Some camera apps allow to manually set the filter (60 Hz, 50 Hz or Auto) but the Google Camera app seem to only allow auto filtering.
You could try with other camera apps from the play store and manually adjust the frequency filter to match that of your country.

Portrait mode can only focus on the middle of the frame

Hi guys, according to my old thread; https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2/help/lots-issues-updated-to-android-9-pie-mi-t3881173
Since I updated my A2 to Android 9.0 Pie, I found that its portrait mode seems close to be useless.
It only focuses on the subject which is located on the middle of the frame, I cannot tap anywhere else in the frame to focus. In addition, locking focus doesn't help at all.
This issue has been appearing since the first Pie update, and is not fixed til now. I send my feedback to Mi every single update patch, but seems all my feedbacks are completely useless.
Any other modes work fine, both camera performs perfectly. There's only the mentioned issue in portrait mode.
Please note that I already tried factory reset, but it doesn't help fix the issue. Moreover, I found that many users also face this issue, so I am extremely sure that there's not only me.
Since the issue has never been fixed, so I wonder if you guys have any good suggestions to fix the issue, or any ideas how to force Mi to fix this big bug for us?

Weird glitch when phone is in dark mode (colour shifting when taping display)

Hi everyone,
Got my Pixel 4 XL on the 23rd and been playing around with it since then. I am now settling into a rhythm and noticed a very concerning glitch with the display when the phone is in dark mode. Basically, when the phone is in dark mode I noticed that typing in Gboard or tapping anywhere on screen in apps that are not pure black (such as Messages, Phone, etc.) will shift the screen colour from blueish-black to greenish-black. This happens every time, even after rebooting the device. There is no visible colour shifting in apps that use pure-black such as Settings (however, parts of Settings like the search bar that are the "gray" dark colour also shift). Once I noticed this happening now I cannot stop noticing it everywhere. I am looking to find out from you whether you are seeing the same thing or whether this may be a device problem. Note that the same issue shows up in dark apps even if dark mode is not enabled. It also has nothing to do with Ambient EQ, Automatic Brightness, or anything else of similar nature. Occasionally the problem stops, but if I pull up Gboard and start typing (say to search in the Recent section of the phone app) the problem immediately comes back.
I am looking for serious feedback here from those willing to look closely. This does seem like a software glitch to me, rather than hardware, especially since I am not seeing this behaviour with any other colours and so far it definitely has something to do with physical interaction with the screen when tapping on it. As I said, it also seems to be universally triggered by Gboard when in apps running in dark mode.
I appreciate any feedback you can provide.
Edit: Looks like what I'm observing is related to the switching colour profiles when the display is going back and forth between 60Hz and 90Hz. Turning off the smooth display function or forcing the display into permanent 90Hz mode appears to stop the problem from happening. Google really messed this one up. I hope their 90Hz fix they promised clears up this issue. Very annoyed ?
Thanks,
Dejan
Btw, since you are using forced 90hz display make sure to have always on display on. If you don't your greys will be purple and lower brightness as well as lots of black smear/crush. I don't know how turning on always on display solved that issue (someone posted this fix in another thread). So it indeed doesn't seem to be hardware but software related and hopefully they will tune this over time.

Yeah, I saw that thread. Some funky stuff going on with display calibration and 90Hz. Since I know that the HW is not defective and the SW is the source of the issue I am less bothered now (I cannot stand exchanging HW). I haven't specifically observed that effect on my phone and while I did try forcing 90Hz, I actually went back to the stock setting since I noticed that forced 90Hz further sucked down the battery that already is not particularly stellar despite this being the XL version. I presume Google will refine the 90Hz calibration and function over the next few months. I will say though that I am a bit confused why they need to have different calibration at different refresh rates. I calibrate all of my desktop monitors and despite the fact that I have a 100Hz monitor I never have to change calibration with refresh rate. Maybe an OLED thing

I just noticed this on my pixel 4 xl tonight. But It only happens when the proximity sensor is triggered. Ex: like after making a phone call except it made everything on the screen seem over saturated on the screen and well as the same color shift you had stated. It seems to go away once I lock the device and unlock it again. It did it with smooth display on and off as well as force 90hz on and off.
There are a couple threads discussing this. Here's one of them:
