Question Mobile network usage - android systen - Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra

Just in one day, android system used 2+ gb. what is happening and how to limit this? I turned off mobile sim data for this but it gave me a warning says system needs access and still went up a few hundreds MB after that.

Which ROM are you using? Some people are reporting the CN ROM is sending quite a lot of data.
That being said this really looks big. Did you just get your phone? At the very beginning the phone does need to send & receive a fair amount of data , especially if you are reinstalling apps, syncing your data, etc...

Further clicking on that "System apps" menu will reveal a lot more information for troubleshooting.
In this way you can see if you're experiencing any abnormal behavior.
I for one have high usage on wlan as well but from the system apps i have the updater because of the... Updates of course

global rom. It's been used for a while, nothing unusual.
Clicking into system apps gives me nothing more.

Then that's really weird. Sorry I don't have much more idea at this point. (I am on a international model, global ROM and don't have this issue)

Android OS uses an incredible amount of data in a short time

Hello guys
I recently upgraded my monthly available data. Got in to a deal, was 5$ for an extra Gb. Now that I have two, I still felt like it wasn't enough for my usage. My cycle restarted today and i busted my 2 gb. I looked in the usage and noticed that the "Android OS" used 800mb of my data. That's a lot of data that I don't actually "use".
This screenshot was taken one week ago. Since I noticed Android OS used that much data, i tried many things to stop it. As you can notice on the screenshot, data saver is ON, its always ON.
I tried some kind of firewalls. Looked like i was able to block different apps from using data, but it didn't seemed to work well, so I uninstalled. Later during the day, when i was in the train and had left work, I noticed Android OS used up to 840 mb of data. 40mb/day is a lot more than my normal usage. All of this, in less than an hour, makes no sense.
I was on Android N beta, developper preview 4, and because of this data usage going crazy, I rolledback to MM and required to wipe the device at the same time, so i am now on a fresh device.
The day I wiped my device, Wednesday last week, I was at work for the whole day, connected on wifi, reinstalled a few apps.
I turned OFF completely the data during the weekend, because I wasn't in town, and I had no cellular network connection there, so no data usage.
Today was a "normal" day in terms of my usage. But still not for Android OS. LTE was turned off uring the whole day, except when I was in transit. Android OS still managed to use 3mb. I took two screenshots, showing how much data is used by this, and here they are.
Notice, I took them with 3 minutes in between. The used data keeps going up, 0,05mb. Doesnt looks like a lot, but at the end of a month, makes a huge difference.
Since then, i keep turning off my data connection when i am on wi-fi and i try to keep it closed as much a possible. I compared the amount of data used by this "app" on data versus on Wi-fi and the quantities are close to each other.
I would say i am connected on wi-fi 90% of the time, and the other 10% on my data connection. This ratio isn't reflected on this data usage of Android OS
I already tried restricting everything, blocking sync of Google account, Google Photos backup, Google Play Store Updates, stopped the bugs and issues reporting, data saver on Android N I think I blocked everything that could potentially use data.
I discussed with an other guy on Reddit with the same issue, he wiped his phone too, booted in safemode, and there too, approximately 1mb/hour of data usage.
This problem is getting very frustrating, i pay for data that I don't actually use for what it should be used. I also feel like I am loosing control over my device, or like my device is controlling me.
I am open to any fix suggestion, even though I probably already tried it. I have really no idea what to do next, I really love this phone for the big display and good functionalities, but this is getting so annoying.
Since I am a new user on XDA, I cant post links for pictures, kind of a bummer, but i hope you get the problem. If you really want to see the screenshots, I will keep them and I have no problem transfering them to you via an other platform. Thanks for understanding
Thanks a lot for your help guys!
I'm not exactly sure (since I've never tried N developer preview) but that 800mb is around the size of an OTA. Again if it were an OTA you would have to have had a version of N that was a bit older to warrant this and when you went back to MM the same thing- having a slightly older build... so just an idea. Otherwise as far as things you haven't mentioned- have you turned off, in the playstore app, the "automatically update apps" and all that? I'm not sure how effective you applications for blocking are(if I even saw that or if you even use such a thing for data). Updating apps doesn't fall in the category of sync either. Updating app also is under google play store services so just an idea, because I know you said Android OS. On avg my android OS is only about 1mb per month so that is shockingly high for you.
That's got to be OTAs or something like that.
For me, Android OS is using 10-20 MB/month.
Also be careful with your character CASE. mb/MB/mB/Mb are NOT the same thing. Big "B" is for Bytes, little "b" is for bits, there are EIGHT bits in a byte, so 1B = 8b. "m" is for "milli", which is one onethousandth (0.001x) of the base unit, since the base unit is a bit, which is indivisible, this is something completely absurd, like dividing by zero. "M" is for "Mega", which is 1000000 times the base unit.

Laggggg on Marshmallow or is it just me?

My UI freezes for 5 - 15 seconds, particularly when the phone regains network connectivity (reconnecting wifi or mobile network going from 0 to 1 bars). It's much improved after removing FB and Insta but. My launcher is even getting closed when the phone frequently, although the phone has ~500MB free RAM.
I dropped this poor phone one too many times, so before I replace it with another z3 compact, I'm wondering if everyone else on Marshmallow is seeing poor responsiveness as well.
I did have slow downs before but not like that,I have switched to Lineage and it works very well so I don't have any plans going back to stock Marshmallow.
yeah same here, i advice you to switch to lineage, you will feel like butter on the screen.
I don't have any lags at all, no launcher refreshes or whatever on stock MM. ( I don't use the horrible Facebook application)
Until 3 weeks ago, I used to have no lags at all on my stock Marshmallow 6.0.1 Z3C. I had uptime of 50 days and more and it didn't lag. Now, it happened twice in a row that my System RAM usage grew in last 5 days to 1,3 GB! It seems like a memory leak in kernel space. It's hard to pinpoint particular process. The phone is slow, multitasking doesn't work (reloads every app), my stock launcher redraws and the phone is unable to make/receive GSM calls - probably a symptom of low on memory state. I wonder, if it's caused by bluetooth driver, because I've transfered 100MB file on both occasions. I need more time to analyze this, this time I won't turn bluetooth on, so I can see if it is the cause.
Edit: I'm confident the cause is not bluetooth. Symptoms now appear after just 65 hours of uptime - . Now I tried to get rid of ES File Explorer, let's see what this bloatware did to system performace.
Edit 2: It seems the problem is gone after uninstalling ES File Explorer. Before uninstalling it had data storage set to external SD card. I replaced this piece of bloatware by open-source explorer called Amaze.
Thanks all. I was avoiding Lineage because I wanted the stock camera / DRM and their description makes it sound very unstable... "random reboots while charging", etc. I'll try it out anyway and add the stock camera back in if it runs well.

Do share the source of the issue if you find it. I'm still seeing UI lockups when the phone loses internet connectivity.

camera works like stock in lineage, don't worry about that. you can face with other small bugs but still worth to use, it is better than stock in most cases.
having the same issue since a few weeks.
device gets VERY slow (i mean like 10 seconds to open the phone dialer or whats app)
Even did a factory reset, which only helped for ~2 days ...
same problem with my girlfriends Z3C.

there must be a reason that it is slow as hell in stock while it works with jet speed in lineage. something related to sony software, hardware is okay.
Wipe cache (Power and vol+ until 3 Vibrations) helped a little, but i don't put too much hope in it.
It's my gf's Phone so i kind of hesitate to install some unstable beta on it. Or is there any real stable release out there?
Sony haven't pushed out any updates for over a year, so not sure how you can blame it on MM build.
It'll be an app.
My money's on Facebook or Messanger.
No lags or slowdowns on my phone, had the same build on it for a year now.
Autoupdates turned OFF.
No Facebook/Messanger.

Last year Facbook deliberatly broke their app, made it run slow and heat your phone up, as an experiment, to see what people would do. They honestly don't give a sh*t about what you think of thier app.
Uninstall it and use your browser, see if it makes a difference.
Try SD Maid from the playstore, that does some good basic houskeeping

Nope.
I do not have a Facebook account.
Therefore I do not have facebook or messenger installed.
But I do have these slowdowns :-/
I read in an italian forum that it's the Google app fault, you should unistall updates and disable automatic updates until it's fixed.

It seems the problem is gone after uninstalling ES File Explorer. Before uninstalling it had data storage set to external SD card. I replaced this piece of bloatware by open-source explorer called Amaze.
Now I have an uptime of 125 hours and counting, my System RAM usage is 0.90 GB and it isn't rising to 1.3 GB as it did before. So the phone is really smooth again. When I was checking my LogCat using DDMS, there seemed to be recurring message of ES File Explorer (estrong) leaking something, I don't remember if it was a window or an activity. What a piece of chinese malware it became. Interestingly, ES File Explorer's memory footprint was low (3 processes, 10MB total user space memory), even when leaking memory and this made debugging harder. Although I killed it, when the phone had problem (1.3 GB system memory), only a reboot worked. It totally seems like a memory leak to me.
GL debugging yours.
it works good with me ..
try to make clean install
I'm not going back to this crappy app. Once, it used to be outstanding, but they probably sold the app to another company in China and from there it went downhill. A lot of popups and ads for things I don't need. Their only purpose is to make your phone slower (bloatware) and optionally, to get money from you. I like simple, minimalistic apps, which do things they are designed for and do it right. Just this Linux approach and also "less is sometimes more".
It's confirmed that ES File Explorer makes network connections to China in background, no thanks!

"Battery usage data isn't available" /data/system/batterystats.bin -daily.xml etc

"Battery usage data isn't available" /data/system/batterystats.bin -daily.xml etc
Got a "new" left over stock Nexus 6 through Ebay, installed lineageos 15.1 nightly, MindTheGApps, root, radio, bootloader. Everything seems to be working nicely, except the Nexus 6 runs pretty warm rather quickly after using it, and I find that the battery is draining pretty quickly. In standby mode it doesn't drain quickly.
But I get no access to battery stats in the settings, because under Battery, it says "Battery usage data isn't available".
There has been talk about this before, but it's all pretty wishy washy. Some people apparently had success by using recovery to clear the cache. Others deleted the /data/system/batterystats.bin file using the battery calibration app from the play store (I know I know, there is no such thing as "calibrating" a battery, but it's just used a tool to delete that file in this case), the one that happens to mention batterystats.bin in its description. Others simply waited a while, and others ended up reflashing. Short of reflashing, nothing has worked. I've tried to manually delete that bin file using Termux and then rebooting. I can see that the file gets regenerated upon boot. What is the reason why the Settings/Battery feature can not show any of its details?
Aside from batterystats.bin, I also see batterystats-checkin.bin and batterystats-daily.xml. Does anyone know anything about those files, and could I perhaps delete them all (or rather, move them into a backup folder so I can place them them if needed), without bricking my phone?
Try using acubattery for some days and see what condition the battery is in. Even if the device is new, left over stock, the battery might really be damaged.

I'm installing that now, thanks.
I just found this: (I'm not yet allowed to post links), youtube: v=dZL2LDAg5cs
So, in developer mode, Android can produce a bug report zip file that you can upload to a special website, that is able to pluck detailed battery usage data from. I wonder if there is an app that can do that instead. I suppose that app would not be able to directly show this kind of detailed information, but would have to be pointed to a zip file that the built-in bug report developer feature stored, eg, in the Downloads directory.
All this is only needed to troubleshoot what the cause of the battery drain is. But yeah, it may well be that the battery is old and stale or whatnot, even though it has not been used for like what, 4 years since it was manufactured. Interesting to find a "new" unopened sealed Nexus 6 on Ebay in 2018 though...
In your first post, you indicated you installed bootloader amongst other things. Did you mean boot? As in a third party kernel? If you really meant bootloader, would you go into more detail on that.
When you first turned on the device, what version of Android was it?

I followed the official instructions on how to install LineageOS 15.1. Part of that was flashing the bootloader using fastboot.
I just checked my phone again. It still says "Battery usage data isn't available.".
Accubattery was showing many details on how different apps were using power, but now it's only showing 2 entries. One for settings, and the other "Trebuchet" which I think is the camera app that comes with LOS. Oh, AccuBattery itself spontaneously joined in the list.
Anyway, I don't expect Android to work all perfect, because it's clearly one big pile of make shift goo. Nothing ever works right on it. You have to literally babysit the damn thing fighting problem after problem after problem.

Trebuchet is the LineageOS stock launcher.
i have this same problem with my Alldocube x, it drains pretty quickly and heats up enough I had the urgency to shove it into the freezer, sometimes I stick a block of ice cube on the back metal to counter the heat, I am only using youtube.
Along with this annoying heating problem is the battery drain and no battery usage problem.
I also tried resetting, reformatting, clearing cache etc.
im loving the Tab S4 screen on this and I cant go back to petty LCD tablets.

Question Buggy software issues

I recently bought the redmi note 11 and updated it to the latest rom of miui 13.0.1.0 stable which is on top of Android 12
Now I am seeing the following issues
1. Ringtone / Alarm / Notification sounds not working
2. Keyboard not opening sometimes and gets stuck, only restart helps
3. Apps start to hang and after that phone does not connect to internet at all even if wifi is connected.
Anyone else facing the same issues if so how to resolve them?
I am looking to install a custom rom if things persists but I don't want to void the warranty yet so any official way to resolve them?
It's always good to do a factory reset after bigger OTA update. I'm not saying it will fix your problem but give it a try. There were many similar situations like yours and this helped them.

Just in case you didn't do it this way, it's not the same, flashing firstly, then wiping, but the reversed way, formatting data, to receive a major update, and search for the fastboot latest version, if it exists, I didn't look for, so I don't know.
@asuna594 Did you somehow fixed that problem? After upgrading to A12 I have similar problems: Often no notifications (like Whatsapp), even after unlocking the phone (I manually have to open WhatsApp to get new messages).
I tried ROM flashing the phone with an official ROM from Xiaomi website. But it did not work. So I got a new phone under warranty. It was a painful experience after buying a new phone.
Oh, great I'll try factory resetting the phone and hope it helps. If not I have to contact Xiaomi... thanks!
I had a lot of problems on A12 from battery, performance, to questionable feature implementations. Downgrading to latest A11 was the most stable option for me, though you will miss out on the security patches and some new features. Maybe you can try Xiaomi.eu or custom ROMs and see if it works for you.
Currently using an Android 13 custom ROM and have almost the same performance and battery usage, if not better than the previous Android 11. Definitely better than stock MIUI A12
Thanks. I just resetted my phone and reinstalled (almost) everything. Will see if it works now... if not I'll also try to find a custom ROM (which might be difficult since I have the 11s, not the 11).

Thanks for your link, I will try to remove powerkeeper if my phone is still buggy because of MIUIs aggressive power management
I hope my problems are fixed now, at least most of the time notifications work well. What I did:
- Factory reset
- In Settings I've search for "Special Permissions", went to "Unrestricted Data" and toggled WhatsApp to "on"
- Switched the region of the phone to "India", searched in Settings for "intelligent scenarios" (at least that's the translation german to english) and switched that setting to "off"
- Disabled Memory Extension

S10 SM-G973F - huge stability issues

Hello everyone!
I'm experiencing very serious stability issues with my S10 SM-G973F running stock unrooted PDA/AP G973FXXUGHVJ5, CSC G973FOXMGHVJ5, MODEM/CP G973FXXUGHVJ1.
It started one day ago and the effect is apps crashing immediately after being started. And it affects all types of apps - Galaxy Store, Samsung Email client, banking apps.
Clearing cache partition seems to resolve the issue for a couple of minutes, after which the instability starts again.
I've never experienced such behavior with any Android phone so far.
Any ideas what could be wrong?
Try in safe mode.
Back up all critical data... probably not going any where good
In safe mode it seems to be running fine. Is there a memtest app for Android or logging tool that can help me identify the reason?

Were any new apps added or updated?
Power management and launchers especially.
See what's running in Developer options>running services and Device Care>Memory. In Device Care try clearing all the cache apps then when it starts to misbehave see what apps just opened.
I've used that method successfully and avoided a reload.
I see nothing suspicious. Clearing the memory from Device care doesn't solve the issue.
I guess next step is hard reset...

Find the root cause. Otherwise it's likely to reoccur after the factory reset.
The only exception to this is undeletable malware or a boot loop (which is where you might be headed).
Before a factory reset try setting all settings to factory; this is a major inconvenience but not as bad as a factory reset.
Best to find and correct the root cause instead... it's staring right at you, look for it.
Many thanks for your feedback!
Is undeletable malware even possible on unrooted phone? I haven't installed anything new lately and my phone is very stock... And I almost never install anything outside Google Play - definitely not in the last months... On a regular computer I would run a memtest in a preboot environment. As far as I see - there is no such option on Android...

Unlikely but not impossible. An app that passed the Playstore tests can latter update a malicious payload, so there's that. Occasionally the user may inadvertently download a trojan preloader (or other malware) or it may slip past the browser and download itself. If it retrieves its payload, boom; many times it does so through a second website (linked to the first) if you click on it or are redirected to it. It's important to check the download folder daily for anything you didn't download. Social media sites can serve as a haven for these packages and conveniently link the preloader and payload all on that site.
Always back out of bad sites or close the tab, or close the browser than open/close tab or if all that fails clear browser cache, or worst case delete browser data. Doing this can save you a lot of... fun Brave browser is very well harden, nothing has ever breached it. Samsung is pretty good but I've seen it breached. A trojan preloader made it through without me approving the download, but it was deleted before it retrieved its payload
Scan with Malwarebytes, it may spot it if present.
More than likely it isn't malware. Android 9 and above are reasonably secure unless you do something stupid.
Just for the record if someone is experiencing the same issue - 24 hours after hard reset it seems that the problem is gone.
