General Sound effect causing laggy graphic - Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra

I wasn't expecting modern SOC to be having difficulty maintaining smooth 60fps on a low end GPU game like Candy Crush. I capture using the framerate monitor tool in developer options. It looks like this affect MIUI since Android 10, but MIUI 12.5 still haven't fix this yet.
Currently on EU 12.5.4 Stable ROM.
Mi 11 Ultra Candy Crush with sound on - laggy graphic
Mi 11 Ultra Candy Crush sound effect off - Smooth graphic
Ignore how I match the candies, I was staring at the fps number most of the time.

Probably the app unless most games are doing it.
Audio shouldn't be eating huge amounts of cpu cycles or ram.
Might want to check the app's permissions and internet usage/connections as well

I confirm. MI 11i has same 888 SOC. Check my video with FPS drops and Ghz log.
The problem is sound. Other old phones are fine.
Seems the more sound channels needs the worse.

I see no difference in Gaming (from the Note 2 to Note 4)

Was testing Asphalt 8 today, and noticed that gameplay was more or less the same as it was in the Note 2. Seems like we're reaching a plateau in the world of mobile technology.

Isn't Asphalt 8 locked at 30fps?
Anyway, youve got all those extra pixels to render with the Note 4,it will stress the CPU/GPU more. I believe Annandtechs tests showed that running the S805 with a 2k screen gave similar performance to running the S800 with a 1080screen.
I forgot to think from that perspective. Seems like the game is locked at 30fps. I really see no use of those extra pixels and thus unnecessary battery drain though I've achieved over 3 days with the standard battery.

There's only going to be more pixels, wait for 4k phones at the end of this year!
4K on a small screen is crippling when think in terms of battery drain. Wonder what the future of battery technology will bring to the table.

I feel you. I've also upgraded from note 2 (which is now with my wife). Really, other than a better scree/ pixel density, I don't see much in the Note 4. May thinner profile/ better build quality. I still feel that the camera is downgraded (except for the fact that the note 4 has better control over spherical aberration). I really miss the macro mode in the note 4. Gaming, as you already mentioned, isn't any different.
I see the camera at fault as well. Not defective, but in low-light, tends to get grainy without the flash. Perhaps I haven't taken enough low-light pictures w/o flash with my Note 2 to notice this. For outdoors, the HDR modes works great with the Note 4; I do like the ability to enhance the photo, edit, and get creative. Software, there are some things I miss, especially Quick Glance, and features in the Galaxy S4, which I never got to experience, not that those software features are gimmicky.

You may need to get your eyes checked lol massive difference
Asphalt 8 is not locked at 30fps, the note 4 Exynos during game gives around 60fps while Snapdragon 45fps.
The Note 3 Snapdragon is around 30fps.
You can test the FPS whit the app "Gamebench". It needs root.

Lodix,
Thanks for the plug mate Just a note - GameBench doesn't require root - you can launch it using our desktop launcher just fine If you have root we can launch it for you.
Cheers,

Confirmed 60fps. The massive difference is only on the display quality, not the game play; subtle differences only.

Seems like OP is on cloud 9.
LOL. :silly: I was just basing this on various articles I came across on Google, can't confirm real world value, unless I perform the diagnostics. Though Antutu does mention my overall score to be 49,888. My Note 2 only reached 18,000. Seems odd that the real world performance difference is subtle. Forget gaming, my Note 4 does feel a lot smoother and I can keep more apps running in the background compared to the Note 2.

dude Note 2 with mali 400 can play almost every game around 30fps @720p but Note driving x4 the amount of pixels which needs a lot of power + adreno drivers sucks and games always run better on non adreno GPUs like mali , Powervr
anyway i don't think any android game support 1440p or even 1080p natively they are just get up scaled i think which is just wasting of gpu/cpu power if android allows user to change the res of the game like windows that would be great

That's why I miss the Mali / Exynos combination. Hopefully, my next Galaxy device will feature this.

Can you share a screenshot ??

Play games in 1440p on Android Pie

Game Launcher only lets you select between 1080p and 720p. On the previous version I used Game Tuner to override it to 1440p. I didn't want to upgrade, as Game Tuner warned me about no support for Pie. But with the daily update notification, I could only avoid the update for three months before accidentally clicking Update Overnight.
Now my games run in 1080p again. Is there a way to get it to 1440p again? I would even gladly downgrade as this update is just horrible.
I can definitely tell the difference, especially in Real Racing 3, as it does not support Antialiasing; I used the higher resolution as a sort of Super-Sampling AA.
Sooooo open the game without game launcher?
Game Launcher doesn't actually list the resolution as 720p or 1080p. There's a "low resolution" option which doesn't always make a difference (maybe it was already 1080p). For some titles I think they might still run at 1440p but antialiasing has been turned off for more stable performance hence it looks like 1080p. Gear Club stuttered quite a lot if you used Game Tuner 1440p unless you overclocked but now it runs fine overall even if the resolution might be lower.
RR3 is not a good example because the game fails to even render at 1080p in the first place. People have been complaining about this since Nexus 7 2013 and other devices from that time, and the developers just said 'we can't fix this issue". It's done the same thing to me on my HTC Butterfly s, and Sony Xperia Z5, and is one reason why I'm discouraged to continue playing this game and waiting for its long download time. It's disappointing since iPhone gets much better rendering. Asphalt 8 and 9 aren't that much better either.

120hz mode not affecting games

hello! I just got my brand new ROG phone 2 today and have been testing my apps and games since then. Everything works normal, the 120hz screen is as buttery smooth as everyone says, but when playing games I just can't notice any real difference between playing with a regular 60hz phone and this one. I have very few knowledge about the topic but I understand that the refresh rate and the in-game fps are different, however I supposed that using the 120hz mode should also increase the number of fps shown by the in-game stats, but in every game I test it always shows 60fps at maximum. I use to play Brawl Stars (a relatively low graphics game) a lot, and I noticed they posted about the recent launch of an update specifically made to give support to the 120hz refresh rate on the ROG phone 2, but It just goes to 60fps. I already tried setting the refresh rate to 120hz in the armoury crate app for the games but saw no difference. Is there any configuration or tweak I'm missing?. Oh, and I got the 8/128GB Tencent version. Thanks for your help.

That's because the games are capped at 60FPS by the developers. So, even though your screen can go 120Hz, it'll only be as high as the game itself.
Try these 120Hz games:
Trials Frontier
Mortal Kombat
Gear Club
DEAD Trigger 2

Thank you. I tried with Trials Frontier and for my surprise it goes up to 120fps I wonder why even the one that comes preinstalled with the device (Asphalt 9) can't go over 60fps

Daily review as a gamer:

I think I hate in mi 10t is camera dump because while we playing gaming it is very disturbance. 2.miui rom not adopted to 144hrz display some times in flixrz in game..3.weight is 219 gm which is feelable..but performance is beast

Question Dolby vision yes or no on the mi11 normal?

Im looking for a Native 10 bit QHD Oled phone panel with atleast 510 ppi 6,7 inch screen size.
I came at the OnePlus 8 Pro the Oppo Find X3 Pro and Xiaomi Mi 11.
The X3 pro is 200 euro's more costly then the oneplus 8 and the xiaomi about 130 euro more.
I had thought the mi 11 had dolby vision but maybe this is only for thexiamoi ultra and the mi 11 Lite?
Seems strange if the base model wouldn't have it but the lite budget version would.
The ultra version doesn't seem to be sold anyway in my country (holland)

I have the Xiaomi Mi11 and find it fantastic it may not have Dolby vision but it has HDR 10+ 6.8" screen with 1500nits peak brightness, very smooth 480htz sampling and 120htz screen. The sound is amazing for a phone, great camera's and an IR blaster to annoy your friends Down the pub when you turn the TV from footy to a soap. But the choice is yours.

Yes aside from dolby vision the other stats seem perfect.
So what you are saying is only the ultra and the lite version have dolby vision?
@6:22 video color enhancer SDR to HDR technology
@6:25 video image sharpener
@6:35 bright HDR video mode
Do you think the xiaomi mi 11 have similiar options like this?

I would say they're both similar just did a side by side comparison on GSM Arena and they are both good, and yes the mi 11 does upscale any videos.
The screenshots you send. Thanks!!! by the way!
1. Seems to do with motions
2. HDR AI enhancement.. I suppose this is only for HDR content
3. Upscale videos that are not native ress to native ress I suppose
Number 3 might be the same as the " video image sharpener" in Oppo
However for SDR to HDR technology and bright HDR video there does not seem to be such option. Now maybe bright HDR video option might not be needed since the firmware already does what it needs to do in a way it lieks or something i dont know.
But the SDR to HDR technology seems really interesting to me. Especially since I will be streaming my desktop to my phone alot. I don't know how useful this is. but if it isn't on the xiaomi 11 might be a shame idk.
Just found this on the oppo site hmm
The O1 Ultra Vision Engine supports Video Image Sharpener and Video Colour Enhancer features, which are implemented only for certain adapted apps.
The Video Image Sharpener is available for Photos and YouTube, whereas the Video Colour Enhancer is available for YouTube.
"You can only enable one of the functions at one time."
Doesn't seem to help with moonlight streaming then I suppose.
Also I see there is an option "enhanced countours",on the Mi 11X though.

The first time I saw a hdr video on the mi 11 it seems to be very bright but does not have very wide color gamut, so I tested it with my colorimeter . when playing a hdr video it switches to profile that able to get very bright, I think for a medium patch around it measured 1000 nits but the color gamut measure only 83 precept of dci-p3. It not very bad as the high brightness give a perceived look of a more saturated color. When you are on sdr mode, there are very good color profiles. The original color color mode target a SRGB(99%) .It has very low de 2000 and have good white point. You also can change the white point. The p3 color mode target dci-p3(95%).The average of de2000 1.3 ,max 2.9.It does not support hdr as it will switch automatically when watching a hdr video. Also, the dci-p3 mode does not allow very high brightness (not an issue as you won't need it on sdr ). As you lower the brightness you start to crush black on dc dimming, when not on dc dimming it switch the pwm frequency and does not crush blacks until quite low brightness. You can switch to 90 hz mode, and it won't crush black on dc dimming but has green tint (worst while display a gray color), you can change the white level to reduce it . The display has a Diamond sub pixel arrangement and not rgb but still very sharp because of a very high resolution. It is much sharper than a full hd oled with Diamond sub pixel arrangement . I really like this display.I use original color mode with 90 hz . For me, a display that do not crush blacks looks so much better, especially for watching video. I saw so many phones with oled screen that crush black and look not good.
