Question How did you brick / bootloop your chinese/global version Mi11 Ultra ? [POLL] - Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra

In this pool I want to find what was the most cases in bricking/bootloop when flashing.

All went fine from CN 12.5.2 -> EU 12.5.4, but then I tried to dirty flash weekly above stable and I faced bootloops to recovery... Fortunately, I finally managed to get it boot again without EDL
So if you want to change eu branch, format data to avoid bootloops

It's known dirty flash weekly over stable causes problems.

Well, I read on xiaomi.eu that usually going from stable to weekly is okay, but not going from weekly to stable as it is considered as a downgrade. I wanted to try Anyway, it's a good reminder to format data

I had the bootloop, my computer couldn't see the phone is in fastboot mode and I flashed twrp recovery with a chinese program that has been published on this website. On twrp, I changed usb slot from B to A then eu rom flash with one line command worked fine as explained on EU rom thread.

I have tried to dirty flash in both directions and resulted in stuck in fastboot and lost the data each time
Ensure you have a backup ready if you Try any dirty flash is a good idea

official MIUI - use MI flashtool via fastboot method only
unofficial MIUI - flash via TWRP recovery or MI flashtool will also work
Sure you can. Actually I used twrp to update the stable version of miui for countless times. It is OK, at least for my 64G mi5
No. Official rom you must need miui flash tool.
you can flash Custom recovery form EDL mode even in bootloader locked
Hi. What would be the safest way to go back to global stable rom? I am on miui eu 6.11.10. Boot loader is unlocked, and my recovery is twrp 3.0.2.0. In recovery I get error message when I try to clear cache "can't mount cache". I just want to be able to receive ota, got tired of changing roms. Thanks
Hi I'm on eu Stable 8.1.6. I want to flash developer Global 7.1.19. What is the safest way? Can I do it by TWRP and what I should wipe?

Yes; if you do a backup via TWRP of your miUI rommed device: sysimage + data + boot
advice: save it outside of the device (your computer, etc) for storage.
Then you can go frolicking with wathever rom you want, when tired put back in the device the backup files; reboot in recovery and via TWRP do a restore.
advice 2: as a baseline for a good/solid backup save also "efs" (that is the modem/sim stuff).
Why sysimage and not system?
Because that is an image (all the bytes) and the other is just the bytes in use; so sysimage will be a larger (in mb/gb) file but a more robust one (backup wise).
...
and for the two who inserted their personal questions in this semi-old thread...

the TWRP website with mi5 version, wich the latest is "twrp-3.0.2-3-gemini.img" 2016-11-20 https://twrp.me/devices/xiaomimi5.html
the mi5 forum: http://en.miui.com/forum-92-1.html
the rom download page with the official flashing guides: http://en.miui.com/download-299.html
Because to do what you ask you have the recovery method and the fastboot method.
Going from eu to global ROM by TWRP what should I wipe (data, system, dalvik, cashe...)?

(flashing / booting) Problems with all roms

Hi,
since many days I have a new Mi8.
The device is a chineese model, and because it was delivered with unlocked bootloader and a shop ROM, i want to use the latest Xiaomi.eu stable rom.
After flashing the TWRP, i cleared all (System, Data, Cache, internal storage) and installes the latest xiaomi.eu ROM.
Unfortunately the ROM was notstartet. Later i readed, that the xiaomi.eu ROM needs the system partition, so i tried to install some different ROMs.
All tested roms failed to install (device missmatch), so i tried to use different recoveries and at least i updated the vendor Image to MI8Global_V10.3.5.0.PEAMIXM.
After this, some Roms are able to install, mut the ROMs wont boot.
After a clean install of the xiomi global fastboot image, the phone is running, but i still have problems to install custom ROMs or the stable Xiaomi.eu ROM.
The fastboot ROM installation with mi flash tools ends with an error (Not catch checkpoint (\fastboot -s .*lock) Flash is not done (I choosed the option clean all, not the lock function)
cDroid Rom is working, but with this ROM i cant use google pay.
cDroid with update to xiaomi.eu weekly is also working, but also without google pay.
Xiaomi.eu stable - bootloops
Do you have any ideas why i cant use all ROMs?
Should i choose a chineesevendor image or something else?
I also heared, that it could be, that the device bricks, when i try to re-lock the bootloader, is this an option?
Which ROM should work fith functional google pay ?
Thanks in advance
The problem seems to be solved,
i have to flash "Disable_Dm-Verity_ForceEncrypt" after the flashing of every ROM, then I have no bootloops / boot Problems.
Now i only have the problem with google pay...
I couldn't also get Miui Eu bootable on my mi8 last time. I didn't realize what you had mentioned Disable_Dm-Verity_ForceEncrypt. But I could manage to get MiRoom Miui workable and it seems ok for now.

DM verity zip removes the 'DM Verity' check that looks for modifications to the boot partitions (D-device M-mapper). You cannot boot with modifications (like root) without disabling the verity check. Also, if you are on a stock ROM, your custom recovery image file will be overwritten with stock upon reboot if you don't disable DM Verity. Hope this helps you understand more.
Found it on this topic.
I´m still looking for a ROM with google pay support, but iu think with unlocked bootloader and without root therre is no chance...

Flashing problem on Chinese version K20 Pro (raphael)

Hello there,
I'm using the Xiaomi.eu latest Beta rom ATM. I'm trying to flash other roms (like lineage OS 17.1 for example) but it seems to reboot to fastboot everytime. I've tried doing a clean flash, formatting data, dirty flashing. Nothing seems to help it boot into the new rom.
Clearly I'm doing something wrong. If I try flashing the recommended Chinese vendor firmware (stable version), I get an error 7..but my TWRP is up to date as recommended.
If anyone has any idea where I'm going wrong, that would help a lot.
Thanks

Don't know what your doing wrong, but this is my failsafe method should nothing else work.
Flash the latest Chinese 11.0.5 fastboot ROM. Make sure you don't lock the bootloader if using the Mi Flash Tool.
Boot into MIUI once to allow it to finalise the install, you don't need to do the initial phone setup once it boots into MIUI.
Boot into fastboot and install TWRP. I recommend the latest from mauronofrio which should be 3.1.1-32
Boot immediately into TWRP. I use the volume up button while powering up the phone.
Perform a factory reset in TWRP (using the swipe button), then format data (need to type 'yes' to confirm).
Reboot into TWRP using the TWRP boot menu, this ensures the newly formatted data partition is correctly mounted.
Copy over the ROM you want and GApps if needed, then flash.
Boot into your new ROM, everything should be OK. Then boot back into TWRP to install Magisk if you want root.
Yep that seems to have done the trick. At first I was getting frustrated because I thought I was downloading the right Chinese ROM, turns out I was downloading the recovery version instead of the fastboot one.
I think it wasn't working because I was on the beta channel. Switching over to the stable channel meant I had to go through a fastboot flash apparently. I've seen this before on my OP3.
Got lineage OS loaded, thanks for your help!

I think EU stable data partition file system is different than on the EU weekly, that's why developers of EU ROM advice to format data when you are moving from stable to weekly. Not sure for 100% but before data format was mandatory when switching EU branch. And TWRP when you make backup (its save's data + partition file type?).
Can you do a test ? Just flash EU weekly and then boot up phone, if everything is ok, go to TWRP and restore backup from stable.
If you end in bootloop, go to TWRP and FORMAT data only, if phone boots up, that's mean data backup is problem (different file system type?)

Can't flash Lineage on MI 9T Pro: "package requires firmware from an Android 10 based MIUI build"

Really badly need some help here. My MI 9T Pro is on MIUI 12.5. When I first tried to flash Lineage 18.1 on the device (a week ago), I got the error message about Android 10 based MIUI build(in the subject line). I flashed the latest stable EEA firmware and tried again (I may have wiped too much in TWRP here: dalvik, cache, data, system, vendor). Then I got into a bad Fastboot loop (couldn't even flash back to TWRP). Don't remember how I got out of that (I think I flashed an empty vbmeta file onto the phone: vbmeta_dv_shivsom.img ).
Flashed back to MIUI stock 12.5 to get a clean start. Worked fine. Then flashed Pixel Experience, which worked fine. Flashed back to MIUI stock. Tried Lineage again. Got the same Android 10 error message before even beginning the flash. Then unzipped the Lineage ROM and edited the file updater-script (removing the Assert lines in the script). Zipped it back and tried to flash the modded ROM. Flash went through, but on reboot it got stuck on Fastboot. Have now done this in several rounds, gone back to stock, tried Lineage 17.1. Tried only doing Factory Reset and Format vs Wiping Cache and Dalvik). I also tried with the latest Havoc 4.8, same result. Tried with a modded Havoc. Tried to flash the latest China firmware before flashing the ROMs, didn't help. I'm totally stuck here and any help would be fantastic.
Forgot to mention. I also get the ERROR 7 message together with the Android 10 error message. (And when I tried to flash Havoc I got the ERROR 1 message together with the Android 10 error message.)

Do you have a global phone or an EEA/EU phone?
If it's a global phone flash the global MIUI ROM not EEA ROM.

Thanks a lot. The phone was bought i Europe (new). Flashed back to the 12.5 EEA stock from mi. But if you think the global version will make a difference, I can try that (if that works, any ideas why the EEA version would cause all these problems?).

You should be using the European ROM with the European phone, global ROM shouldn't make a difference. Try flashing the European firmware that is linked in the LOS OP.
When flashing you do not need to wipe system or vendor.
It is as rare as hens teeth the times when you need to wipe either system or vendor. In future did not do this. In future, only do the standard TWRP factory reset for a clean flash. There is almost never any need top go to the advanced wipe screen in TWRP.

Will do. Yes, I followed bad step by step instructions and wiped too much on the first flash attempt. But any damage from aggressive wiping should be eliminated after I used the official MI flash tool and flashed it back too stock? Or is there any changes that remain on the devise after going back to pristine stock? ( Will stick to Factory Reset and Format Data in TWRP going forward.)
