Question Sneaky Jelly Case Switcharoo! - ZTE Axon 30 Ultra

So I just got the USA version of the phone two days ago. Before purchasing the phone I probably watched about 20 different YouTube tech reviewer unboxings of this device. In EVERY single unboxing, the Axon 30 Ultra came with a premium clear hard-shell bumper style case that kind of snaps on to the back of the phone. It looked REALLY nice. Well, guess what? ZTE replaced this premium looking hard-shell bumper case with a flimsy cheap cloudy flexible jelly style soft case that makes the phone look REALLY cheap. I was really annoyed when I saw this. I've seen one other YouTube reviewer comment on the change in the supplied case. I mean, something is better than nothing, but this is bait and switch!

Mine didn't come with a case at all! It did come with 1More wireless earbuds, which I don't need. And Amazon doesn't have much for cases or screen protectors for it yet. Sigh. On the other hand, it does seem like quality hardware so far.

Seriously? The case is in the thin box that holds the sim ejection tool. Inside you should find the case and a number of booklets/paperwork.

You are correct. It's so flimsy I didn't notice it. Thank you. That should help until there are more options on Amazon.

This is slightly different. The one I posted has a full size magnetic flap which keeps the case closed, it also has a different cutout for the speaker.

hmm. shipping fees to the US are ridiculous.. that might be a deal breaker.
I've ordered from them before (iphone metal back), it was about the same service as dealextreme, same shipping time as well.
ordered one off ebay in gray. should get it by end of next week.
I can't seem to find it on Ebay UK yet. It would be great if you could make a short review when yours arrives. It looks a good case in my opinion. Hopefully the quality is good.

Shame it's not shipped from the UK.
Mine arrived (finally).
Decent enough quality although there's a bit of seam splitting already after a few days use. Fits snugly, the smart cover functionality works flawlessly and the folding mechanics work well - 30 or 45 degree angle depending on the fold.
It won't protect much during a drop but while closed it offers good scratch and impact protection for the screen. I bought it for this and the stand function without adding much bulk to the device while in use, so I'm happy with it. When not in use I carry the tablet around in a Mofi zipped pouch and the pair complement each other nicely.

bodyglove case

http://shop2.sprint.com/NASApp/onli...ryID=CZS5478Q&topPageNumber=0&subPageNumber=0 im going to try this out tomorrow, had one for the galax.1 and the infuse, slim and good protection and grip,of course i will get screen protectors!!
I bought this case at the Sprint store the day I bought my phone just to have something to protect it in until I figured out what I wanted to do as a long term solution. This case ended up being that long term solution. It is very light and thin yet I feel provides a lot of protection on the corners and sides of the phone as well as protruding higher than the glass front of the phone in case the phone is dropped face first. I like the texture on the back of the case a lot in terms of my ability to hang on and use the phone with one hand. This case is a keeper in my opinion.

I also got this same case on release day, it's good case the design on the back gives it good grip. Like stated before it is keeper. But for me I gonna go with something a bit thinker just so I have a piece of mind. hopefully BG makes a tactic style case like the one for the gs3.
these don't look bad in the glacier color.
http://www.otterbox.com/Samsung-Gal...eries-Case/sam4-galaxy-note-2,default,pd.html
Picked one up from sprint as well and i really like it Offers nice protection, grip, and feel. I also got it to hold me over until i found a case i wanted for long term but may end up keeping it, it all depends on if my flygrip sticks well to that textured back.

Any chance this is available for international customers?
The body glove that is.
I too picked one of these up at a Sprint store. I had to go to an official sprint store, the affiliate store I checked first said there weren't any cases being made yet. I paid $26. I agree with the above comments, it's quite nice, although I'll go with a water resistant (siedo/otterbox) whenever it comes out. I did have to trim the top edge of a couple of my microusb cables, I thought about trimming the case but it's pretty thin there, and I only had to very slightly bevel the plastic of the cable. I've had the same problem with my Nexus 7 so no biggie.
Yeah i just bought one too and this thing is too flimsy for my taste. I got spoiled by the Speck case for my Note 1. But i had to patience. Couldnt keep my phone in a plastic box for 2 weeks.
I would LOVE to have a Speck - the Speck case for my 80G Ipod looks like a tire!

Yep, I like this case a lot also but can't find it in France or elsewhere in Europe...
Also, this case isn't super rubbery feeling. If that's what you're looking for then this case isn't for you. Personally, I don't care for silicone cases because they get stuck in my pocket and and too rubbery feeling. This case is a bit more pvc feeling and isn't rubberized. I didn't think I would like it, but it's pretty solid. It's a bit more expensive though.
This looks close to what I am looking for. Is it one piece? Seems like it would just slide out ?

Yes it's one piece. Goes on like a TPU case does, just wraps around the phone

the only disadvantage is it doesn't have the raised areas over the buttons. that's key on the samsung case. I would much rather have the textured back on this one though. It feels great overall, slim, light, and makes the phone feel solid. I wish there was some compromise between them.
So has anyone found a way to get the body glove outside US? It seems to be perfect for my needs. Slimmer and prettier than the samsung tpu case. I've searched but nobody ships it to Europe. Is Sprint the only store selling it? Do you think the case will become available wider or should I just buy the samsung tpu?

I like the case too. You can order from sprint.com no matter where you live or order over the phone from them.
My cousin just got the GNII 2 days ago, and he too rapped it with the Bodyglove case. So far he likes the case a lot. For me when I get the GNII on 12/1, I will be going the Otterbox Commuter series case route. I will not take any chances when dropping $299 with a 2 year attachment, lol...
I have one, feels awesome. Just wish it had the covers over the buttons. other than that, no complaints
Hate
I hate the cases with covers over the buttons. Takes away from the feel of the phone and having to press extra hard to get a response from the buttons sucks. I have never had a BG cover that I have ever liked. Seen this one on the Sprint sight when I ordered it and it looked good so I gave it a shot. I have had 6 different TPU cases on other phones and this case is the best I have used. So I don't find it a down fall at all the buttons are not covered. Plenty of grip. Raised areas cover the camera and screen edge perfectly. Get it and you wont be disappointed! :good:

Axon cases

ZTE ended up sending me the TPU Clear Protective Case the day after I received the phone. It fits perfectly, has a almost a tacky feel to it to assist with one-handed operation since its so large. Buttons are covered as well but easy to operate through the raised corresponding buttons on the case. Well worth the $15.

There are a few cases popping up on Amazon now. The only thing that's keeping me from pulling the trigger on any of them is the fact that none of the example photos actually show the Axon with the case on. Most of them are a completely different phone (maybe a nexus 5?). I doubt that any of the major case brands will manufacture a case for the phone since it's GSM only, so a limited market. Time will tell.

I saw one case on amazon or ebay for it and I'm was not sold on the case mainly because it looked like they have the camera and flash cutouts positioned wrong.
I'm thinking the mismatch on cases in the photos has something to do with these being cheap case companies not having their hands on the phone yet. I would like to wrap this phone in something but I'm not sold on any of the cases on amazon until I can see them actually on the phone in the example photos. Augie, you have the official case, correct? Any chance you can post a photo or two of the case on the phone? Does it still allow you to show the phone off? I'm crossing my fingers that someone will develop a dual hybrid case like the ringke fusion or the incipio dual pro cases.
I'll post some tomorrow. Check the link in post 1, the case is completely transparent. It even has holes in it for the two microphones at top and bottom of phone.
As promised, sorry for the delay. Link in post 1
That looks perfect. I worry about the transparent cases not adequately showing off the phone, but that looks excellent. I'm going to order one. This is a gorgeous phone, but I worry about dropping it.
A drop is not good for any phone, no doubt. The case will help as long as its not flat on the screen. The case fits perfect, as you would hope, from an OEM case.
I want a clear hard case, as I'm not really a fan of TPU.
Unfortunately I don't see any good ones yet. Nillkin usually makes cases for some of the more obscure phones, but I don't see anything from them yet.

I'm considering getting this case from amazon. It's not clear, but it would protect the finish on the case and still allow the buttons to show (which I really like the look of). I may pull the trigger on one as a guinea pig to see if the case that shows up is actually for the Axon.
EDIT: Ok, so after researching the company that makes the case and comparing products, I won't be getting this case. It's simply a polycarbonate shell that goes on the phone. Nothing between the plastic and the phone. I'd worry about scratching from the hard plastic against the phone. OEM case it is then.
EDIT 2: Ordered the OEM case, it should be here Monday. I got a call on Friday from ZTE to tell me my case was on the way and to give me my tacking number. Not an automated message or pre-recorded nonsense. An actual human being. So color me impressed. I'm hoping that ZTE will continue the awesome customer service with this phone.
Just got my phone and wanted to share with you this..
Ordered Nagebee flipcase for the ZTE Axon with it and:
The cutouts on the left of this case DO NOT FIT the Axon Pro.
Can be fixed by cutting it out yourself.
I have searched and searched but havent been able to find a decent case anywhere. I ordered my Axon Pro and it should be arriving tomorrow. I always like to have a good case for my phones as well as a screen protector but there doesn't seem to be anything available yet. Anyone find anything decent yet or tried any from Amazon even though the display picture isn't correct yet?
I too have to find a decent case yet. The cases on Amazon aren't good.

Unfortunately the ZTE TPU Clear Case is the Best Case So Far
Not a TPU Case fan but it seems to be the best case going as far as fit and still showing off the phone... Everything else either hides the phone or adds additional size... I have one and use it whenever I am going some place where I may drop it... otherwise I go bare and slip it into a pouch like below:
http://www.pack-smooch.com/en/phone-cases/apple/iphone-6-plus/elie/elie-for-the-iphone-6-plus.html
or a fit bag:

:good:
The official case does look nice on the phone, I will say that. I didn't like how the buttons felt so I cut them out with a little extra space so I would be able to push them. Looks horrible, but it works until I can figure out how to smooth out the rough edges as a file doesn't work on TPU.
Right now, the official TPU case is the way to go. I bought 3 other cases that almost fit if it was for the volume control. For some reason it's a lot lower on the 3rd party cases.
I manned up and got the case from ZTE directly, and as mentioned previously they call you to confirm shipping etc. A real person calls you. That's some service right there. Hopefully, it'll sell a few more and we'll get some good 3rd support for the device as ZTE has got the customer service nailed.
I just received this case for the axon. All of the cutouts line up properly. It's a little bit bulky, but it's beefy. It feels like it could survive a decent drop and looks pretty nice. It'll do until something nicer comes out I think. The only weird thing about it is like in the photos, there's space on the case for the fingerprint scanner on the lux, so I think it's meant to fit both.
Has anyone else had any luck hunting down a good alternative to the ZTE TPU case? Amazon is still a wasteland of generic chinese silicone/PC hybrid otterbox wanna-be's. I can't stand silicone because it's a nightmare to get out of your pocket and needs to be cleaned daily for lint.
I got this case from Aliexpress and it works great fits good and had a nice grip.

Bumper cases?

Wow, I have the same question. This thing is super slippery. All I want is a rubber bumper, no back, no front. Can't seem to find one.
Same boat here guys. This is the closest thing I could find:

I preordered last week and it ships next Tuesday, but apparently they are now backordered until october, I guess. You can always write and ask if they plan to have anything sooner though, I suppose.
If anyone has a 3d printer I guess you can try making your own, too....or even with just a box cutter and a cheap-o tpu case off ebay.

That isn't really a bumper case, it has a clear back piece and is therefore a shell case... there are several cases like that available, one example is the one I have, the Tudia Lucion.
I have not seen a true bumper case for the Moto G yet.

Uh.. yeah.. like I said it's the closest option I could find.. I know it's not a true bumper. I saw that Tudia but looked thicker than what I listed. Still wish they would make grip shells for this model like they did for the older models.
The poetic case has grips on the edges...just sayin'
My Orzly bumper case was delivered today. It's .... eh, I'd give it a solid 4 out of 10. Does it cover the phone, yes. Does it add a bit of grip, yes. Is it attractive, no. The search for a case continues...
I was able to remove the clear piece from the case. It's now a bumper! Not great, but a bumper none the less.

Yeah, tbh I'm probably going to get one... The Tudia case is developing an annoying spot by the buttons where it lifts the screen protector when i press the power button sometimes. I liked the case initially, but after having it a bit, it just doesn't fit as well as it should, especially around the buttons.

Be careful with metal bumpers. They're known to interfere with reception.
Thx for bringing that up, for me I doesn't have much of an affect as I live in a urban area, but I've heard that for some people it could reduce the signal a lot (not specifically for this case though)

[Review] Noreve Ambition Leather Pouch

Hi guys and gals, it's been a while since I've done a case review and this time it's a case from French manufacturer Noreve, who are known for their hand made, premium and genuine leather cases.
This time around I decided to go for a pouch, as I wanted something different, and was also curious as to how it was going to be crafted, since these are all hand made. Why the pouch, you ask? Well I just think they look great. While not the most practical of cases maybe, as you have to take the device out each and every time you want to use it, and you can't use the always on display, I just think it looks elegant. Going out for the night? Throw this case on. I've found it to be great since you're not distracted when any notifications come in, and when you put it on a table, it just looks elegant like most other phone cases simply do not. I'm not a big fan of plastic cases because they make the device look cheap. Think about it, you buy a phone for nearly $800, then you put a $5 plastic case on it, which just looks terrible. In my opinion, it totally takes away from the phones metal and glass construction. Also with the S7 Edge, I love the way it feels in the hand naked, and with this case you always have that experience.
As always, this case from Noreve is also exceptionally well made. It took a few weeks for it to arrive, since they only start making them once you order one, and depending on the finish, it can take longer or shorter. But normally it's about two weeks, which is perfectly fine for a custom made, leather case.
Unboxing a Noreve case is always an event. It comes in a very handsome red box, which is sealed by plastic wrap. Inside the box, you'll find a protective red pouch for your case - this is a very nice touch, and I love that they do this, when they really don't have to. But the devil is in the details. Inside the pouch, you'll find your case - and the first thing that you'll probably notice is the brilliant smell of genuine leather. It just adds something to the overall experience that I enjoy.
The case is made exceptionally well. Noreve cases have always been constructed with very high attention to detail, but I believe it's even higher now as there are no flaws with the case whatsoever. Because this is a pouch style case, there are no cut outs for the camera, power or volume rocker buttons. None for the micro USB or headphone jack, either. The only cut outs are for the speakers on the bottom. I think this is perfectly fine, and whenever I wanted to charge the phone or plug in some headphones, I'd just reverse the phone and put it into the pouch in reverse. I found this to be a practical and easy solution.
In conclusion, I am pretty much blown away by this company yet again. Never received a bad case from them, they only seem to get better. Mine is in the Ambition (grained leather) finish, but Norever offer a whole bunch of different finishes which you can also then customize. Basically, the sky is the limit. These guys can do whatever you want. They're a bit on the pricey side (my case was $45.40 - free shipping with DHL) but as we all know, you get what you pay for. This is not one of those Chinese made, fake leather cases which will rip and tear after a few months. Hell, I'm still using the one I have for my Galaxy Nexus, which should say something.
Here are some pictures below of this beauty. Thank you all for reading, and here's a link to their product page.
Cheers.

The inner material is also leather, but more of a matte leather with the company logo branded into it. I'll try to get a picture up for you, but I haven't had any problems with it scratching the screen.

Honestly to me that looks like a recipe for disaster. If anything like a grain of sand gets in it, you are running the screen down the inside material and it could scratch it.
