General TWRP createTarFork() error 255-why and how:) - Xiaomi Mi 11

Hi, a lot of Us have problem: TWRP createTarFork() error 255 when backing up data when backup data. It is on miui because miui uses a lot of users in android for:
- dual spaces
- dual app
- and other thinks that i dont know...
And TWRP cant work with it (decrypt only main user).
On Redmi K20 (my old phone) if i would like to make backup, i remove encryptions, pernamently deleted from adb other users and succefully make backup.. But It has no sense, cause it affect miui system (crashes etc).

9T PRO Root with Magisk ok, but LIMITATIONS with SYSTEM partition?

Recently root with magisk 20.3 my 9T PRO Global with official last rom 11.0.1.0 MIUI 11 with ANDROID 10.
Two problems with /system partition:
1) This system partition is FULL literally, only 5MB free and I can't move any app to system partition (no space), and for me this is VERY IMPORTANT can move some personal apps to system partition... I can expand this system partition?
2) For make more space in /system, when i try move a system app (like Navigator for example) with titanium backup or Link2SD, one error: "mount: ´/system´not in /proc/mounts"
With my old POCOPHONE with MIUI 11 and ANDROID 9, no problems... Maybe is a limitation or bug of ANDROID 10 ?
Please help, thanks in advance

global stable ROMs generally tend to do this. Try flashing china ROM and then root with magisk again.

There is no TWRP properly supporting Chinese Oreo encryption on P9 in a way that:
- you don't need to format Data and make changes to Vendor partition
- you just need to enter your Android unlock pin/pass whenever you boot to TWRP
- with that that TWRP can properly read/write to Data and Internal memory
However, there is a Chinese TWRP (language can be switched to English) that you can for one time remove encryption from Data (it is not enough to format Data but it must be also edited an fstab file on Vendor partition)
After that encryption is removed and you can fully use TWRP for e.g. Nandroid backups, installations from Internal memory, installations to Data partition, editing on Data partition (in case of e.g. bootloops with Magic modules), etc.
Also, once encryption was removed you can switch back to your preferred TWRP from that Chinese TWRP (that TWRP has some other issues)
It was long ago couple of us experimented with, you can start from the following post and follow the links (but always compare the dates, newer posts from the same pearson mean they were written with more experience and understanding of the matter):
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=80029346&postcount=1843
Good thing is that (once you don't want it anymore), stock Oreo can be fully reinstalled and encryption reinstated. E.g., eventually I did it on two my P9s (almost a year ago), but I was no more updating the posts about
Of course, once Data is decrypted, it can be also used for TWRP when working with GSI/AOSP ROMs (not only with stock Oreo)

How To Guide [INSTRUCTION] How to make backup, restore TWRP on MIUI (error 255, fork etc)

Hi,
We have MIUI based on A12,
Some of You want to make NAND backup on A11, but always data backup make error like: fork, error 255 etc.. There is nice way to fix it.
Instuction below to make NAND backup correctly:
1) On miui setting remove second space, remove second user
2) boot into twrp
3) run script: RMDAD_v0.0.1.zip
4) go to console on TWRP, write on it: rm /data/extm -Rf
5) make succefully backup (data partition)
To restore from A12 to A11:
1) flash xioami eu fastboot A11 rom with format https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=2188818919693786473
2) fully boot
3) go to twrp, flash xiaomi eu new rom (stable or beta what U use before)
4) IMPORTANT!!!!! fully boot, set password - screenlock!
5) go to twrp, copy your TWRP backup to phone from computer, restore it
6) boot fully
7) reboot again
8) everythin is ok (miui backup data partition dont has icos size and font size set etc, all apps etc come back)

Have a nice day
Hello and thank you for this guide. Just a quick question : when you say "set password - screenlock!", should it be the same as before, or not necessarily ?
And also : why did you not put the "rm /data/extm -Rf" in the RMDAD script ?
I've been trying for several days now to backup my currently running MIUI to try something different and be able to get back quickly to something stable, but no luck for now...
I could addtrur, password whatever
Sorry I didn't cet you here...
Hello, I tried your solution, my backup was a bit long but successful, but the restore was a failure.
In fact on the first boot after restore, I always stay on the Mi logo and black screen with the dots at the bottom...
I'm on Redmi Note 10 Pro on MIUI 13 (Android 12) and I only restore data partition.
Can you help ?

Question Xiaomi 11T Pro on TWRP backup failed on backing up Super (system system.ext product vendor odm) ....

Mi 11T Pro TWRP Backup failed twice on same area ........ Backing up Super (system system_ext product vendor odm)...
I did twice and same spot that failed miserably and I also copied just a small portion of the recovery log that fail:
Backing up Super (system system_ext product vendor odm)...
I:Reading '/dev/block/by-name/super', writing '/usb_otg/TWRP/BACKUPS/5bb27ae4/2022-12-27--06-03-40/super.emmc.win'
I:Error writing destination fd (Operation not permitted)
Backup Failed. Cleaning Backup Folder.
Running on the latest TWRP twrp-3.7.0_12-v6.5_A12-vili-skkk and rooted with lastest Magisk v25.2 with safety net passed.
Any advice is highly appreciated and thanking in advance - -

You have rooted the phone and you must have seen that even with root the system partitions remain in read only which means that you cannot restore the system with the Twrp which must have write permission.

I don't know this app.
The system on devices with A/B partitions with A12 or A13 remain in Read only.
Try to restore only the data without the system/vendor/etc.
Did you remove security on the lock screen and reboot the system before your backup?
This has the effect of decrypting your data.
Micloud can also back up your data, apps (not all and without settings), mms, sms, photo, music, configuration settings, but the free version is limited to 5GB.
There is also backup on PC with Micloud, just a folder to cut / paste.

Thank again @ NOSS8
Yes, I did removing all my security passwords on the lock screen before doing all the backups.
The Twrp was good where I managed to backup everything except the system while the PartitionBackup did backup everything!
Yes, I do fairly backup only folders under Micloud as only 5GB of storage only!
Thank you
