General Custom Rom poll! Please vote!!!! - Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra

The more votes the better.
I'm making a simple poll to see if there are of people interested in having a Custom Rom like Lineage OS, Pixel Experience, Havoc, Arrow, Evolution, and others.
I'm don't make ROMs but I'm posting this to see if people would be interested in having one in order for other people invest their time in making some Roms for these devices.
You don't need to comment, just a simple vote would be appreciated.

Base on my experience with Xiaomi Mi Note 10, and its 108MP camera + custom ROM:
- image quality never was as good as stock firmware, you will be using other camera app, but no matter what settings you will set up, there was no way to get image quality as good as on stock MIUI ROM. It has less noise on stock ROM, better low light photos on stock ROM, manual mode etc.
Maybe this will change in the future, but I got MI 11 Ultra because of its new top image sensor to shot nice pictures specially in low light condition.
And for person who got this phone specially to takes amazing photos, moving to custom ROM will be resulting in degrading picture quality.
I love custom ROMs, it's have less bloatware, better optimization, but biggest dealbreaker for me is image quality :/
Of course, if you love custom ROMs and don't care about image quality, go ahead.
If stable custom ROM will be build in 1 year from now, do you think you still will have MI11 Ultra ?

Personally speaking yes, I don't change phone every year, actually my previous phone was a One plus 3 updated year after year with custom ROMs up to Android 10. Finally after 5 years I purchased this Mi 11 Ultra which I plan to keep at least for 4/5 years depending on how long it will last of course and custom support

There is always the option to use Gcam as an alternative. And i know some modders are working hard on it like Wichaya and Greatness.

I am actually interested in MIUImix ROM, I read that is available already on Mi 11, hopefully it will soon for Mi 11 Ultra as well

These are really good reasons to keep MIUI. I'm not exactly an expert, but weren't there exports of MIUI-Cam for custom roms before? If yes, you could have best of both worlds, right?

Its almost the same as xiaomi.eu rom but its prerooted. Even instructions to flash are the same.

I was using Cgam in custom ROM, but finds settings for its camera sensors was not always as you expect or hard to find working one. Or app was crashing when switching lenses etc. So it was not reliable at the time of testing.

Chinese firmware was more smooth and felt better, but xiami.eu is also underclocked so no wonder about that. But that doesn't mean it's bad lol.

I don't think given the frequencies for a Snapdragon 888 it makes too much of a difference in terms of apps opening (WhatsApp? Seriously?).Also if it is underclocked it must be underlined by developers as a feature actually, because it is not nice to have an underclocked cpu without knowing (neither I want it nor I can take "better battery optimized" as a feature,as it is achieved with a trick). So in the end it is bad indeed,of course is my opinion

gcam or stock

Just something i was wondering. What do you guys prefer using the stock mi camera app or gcam? I use the mi one mostly since one thing ive noticed is that back in my redmi note 4 gcam made a heck load of difference but with the a2, not so much tbh

GCam, in low-light/night scenarios, significantly outperforms stock. In good lightening conditions you might be able to see a little lack of proper WB tuning on GCam, colors are a bit exaggerated (unreal), stock camera handles color accuracy better (though, it won't capture as many details as GCam even in the best lightening conditions). Cropped sky shots on GCam reveal dot patterns, GCam devs now implement a fix by B-S-G, but you can't fully get rid of dots. By the way, the so-called Xtreme libs, that are available in previous Tolyan's builds, were the top solution to the dots' problem for me a month ago. If you'll be pissed off by the black dots, go try his builds. I just nevermind them 'cause we have a good dev who tunes everything to match Mi A2 capabilities.
Here is a link to builds by a Russian guy who works on bringing the best GCam performance to Mi A2.

Thanks for the comprehensive answer. Never experienced these black dots myself tho. Its mostly just about stability for me and all the gcams ive tried aren't nearly as stable as stock camera. They end up crashing when i most need them. Anyways i havent tried the build you linked which is supposed to be specific to those device so ill try that to see if theres any difference.

That's the issue for me as well.
At the end of the day, photography is mainly about catching the moment.. so you can have the best HDR in this world, but if the camera crashes/freezes when you really need it, then it completely misses the point.
Even if I think that the gcam gives better results (if you don't consider the dots), I'm using the stock app simply because it's way more reliable (and not bad anyway).

Question: Front camera and AOSP ROMs

I actually wanted to buy the Pixel 4a. Since that's not coming out soon enough for me, I am planning to buy this phone. Getting a very good price of $250 by exchanging my old OnePlus 3.
My biggest concern is the front camera quality. MKBHD said in his review that the front camera is straight-up garbage. Is that true even with the Google Camera mod for this device?
Also, are the AOSP ROMs for this phone good/stable enough to be used? I like the OOS and I'd absolutely prefer to use something closer to AOSP than MIUI. I see people around here rave about the performance, stability, features of custom ROMs but I also see people talk about bugs fairly regularly. I can do dirty flashes something like once a month and clean flashes can take me longer.
Would you recommend I buy this?
Hi.
Front camera with stock camera app is not so good, but it is also not a garbage as that MKBHD said. With GCam it is much much better.
AOSP roms are stable to use with this phone. Just there is not a real OOS ROM, there is GSI version, and it is not good, have some bugs.
Other aosp roms i have try and they are really good are ZenX OS my favourite for now, then aosip, project-404 , really good roms, without bugs at least at my phone.
But any way when you want to install a new rom, it is advice to instal clean with format data, etc, then when it is update you just dirty flash, except when developer said it is preferable to clean flash.
Definitely i recommend you to buy this phone, it is even much better then that pixel 4a you are waiting for.
Thank you for your response slavke1976. It's very helpful.

Could you elaborate a little on why you said this? I was under the impression that Pixel 4a would definitely be a much superior phone. I think so because the google camera should definitely be miles ahead than the competition. And the phone would get much much better software support and for a longer time. And those two are the two things I am looking for on my little budget.
If you want phone with smaller screen, then wait pixel 4a. But in rest of things Mi9t pro is much better choice, as it has flagship processor. GCam is same good as stock pixel camera. you have lots of custom aosp roms to bring you same feelings as on pixel. software support it will be sure miui 12 and miui 13 official, but custom will be even more. Because mi9t pro is very popular device ( i write mi9t pro as i have such version, but k20pro it is same ) .
and finaly it is a question if pixel 4a will see day of light soon. i heard some words that new pixel 5 will have cheaper processor and it will be cheaper in price then pixel 4, so maybe that pixel 5 will be actually pixel 4a but with little higher price ( 500$ ) .
you can also wait new oneplus zero , it will be also good price.

Question Rear display use

Hi Friends , Have anyone idea about rear display use?.
I can use for it for selfie but nothing else. I want use like front display in rear display
If you have any idea, pls share with me
If you flash the Xiaomi.eu rom (weekly), you can also use it to record video, as well as, for selfies, music controller and notifications.

Xiaomi has not released that feature yet to their global rom It is currently only available in their beta version of the China rom, which Xiaomi.eu is based on, so it has that feature available now in their weekly rom.
It's not pratical to be used like front display. you can use it to answer/reject calls or change music, but i can tell you the number of times i place the phone on the table facing down by the fingers in my hand
It could be used as a light source(bright white) for close up shots but then again you can do it with flash as well.
I wished they had replaced it for one of these Macro/microscope/nightvision/thermal/blackandwhite camera
and add a mirror that does square so you can see yourself instead of a amoled screen
I would also like to see somethings like on OPPO new continuous zoom lens.
Oppo introduces true continuous zoom lens for smartphones
It should be sharp at every step from 85 to 200mm

Still in beta, so we can't expect everything at this point. However, the majority don't use pro mode anyways. Just like most people don't shoot in RAW, so the fact that a small minority of users aren't happy, doesn't really matter in the larger scheme of things. Patience grasshopper.

Im sorry, there's nothing anyone can do about that. The rear display combination with the rear camera is still in beta and whenever they release it to the general public, no one knows and whether or not it includes pro mode, there is nothing I can do about that, otherwise you can take my advice and download Xiaomi.eu weekly, which is based on the beta China rom to be able to use the rear camera with video features. BTW, who needs pro mode for selfies anyways?

I think there is more frustration with this particular phone because it was expensive ( by Xiaomi standards) and a lot of people who bought it are inexperienced noobs who want it to work like an iphone 12 pro max but even though the hardware is stacked the software is atrocious
Combine that with the low international sales count compared to the s21u etc and you're not going to have a lot of development going on
If I wasn't able to get the 12/512 for China mainland price I also would have bought another phone
The camera simply isn't as good as it should be and you will notice the 108mp cheaper regular mi 11 camera often takes more detailed pictures ( except zoom or night shots )
, if this camera was actually good they would have used it in the mi mix 4 and the mi 11t pro but looks like even Xiaomi know they dropped the ball here and tried to sell it on spec alone without the necessary software to back it up

Question Status of Custom ROMS for Note 10 Pro? - Upgrade Advise Needed

I'm looking to upgrade to the Note 10 Pro from my Note 8 Pro.
One of the main reasons why i don't like running a custom ROM in my Begonia (Note 8 Pro) is the fact that i loose a bunch of Camera features and even the ability to use the macro lens.
The devs in the Begonia thread and us Beta testers have risked our devices and had spent an unreasonable amount of time on getting custom ROM's running and to make much of the features functional in that device. But i know since this one has a Snapdragon processor, much of the resources needed to port features from other devices to this is already there.
I know the advantages of running a custom ROM. But i would like it if someone explains to me what device-specific OEM features that you are not able to use once you flash a custom ROM in the Note 10 Pro?
Appreciate the feedback!
1) cRDroid (has Mi CAM too)
2) ArrowOS
3) DroidOnTime

Not sure, don't use too many frills that it has. For 1, I think the IR blaster might not work. Not sure though.

Don't take adventure on your ass.
Indonesia ROM and you will be happy.
In terms of speed, smoothness and lack of problems, nothing beats this firmware.
And the camera is pretty good. Well, if it is infused correctly.
Good luck.
This is my first MIUI based phone and I bought it as a secondary device to only to flash a custom ROM.
I tried the latest Pixel Experience Plus (Aug 22 initial OSS build) and it I couldn't be happier (Well, maybe a bit if I could get a 108MP mode in GCam). The performance and battery life are fantastic. Not crash or moments of lag, stutters. So snappy, way better than MIUI.
GCam is working for Regular 12MP, wide angle, tele macro and portrait. The night shots are better than on stock. In case you need a 108MP mode, there is ANX camera. The quality might not match the stock 108MP, but it's a usable option. The selfies are also bright unlike GCam, though GCam has way more detail in the selfies than ANX or even stock.
I'm going to test Crdoid or dotOS soon to see what a degoogled experience is like, but I reckon it is going to be similar to PE+. PE+ has set a benchmark for me.
Also, a couple of bugs I've noticed on PE+ which might or might not stay with other ROMs is:
1. Auto brightness is a bit off and goes lower or higher than it should at times.
2. The front cam was crashing when I turned on face unlock. But because I prefer the fingerprint scanner, turned it off and no issues since then.
3. Features like AOD and Pocket mode have been known to be battery hogs, but I don't use them anyway.

Give you some information. Xiaomi released A11 kernel for begonia a few days and camera problems (maybe) can be fixed, wait for next custom rom A11 based before get new rmn10p.
And custom use ANX and Gcam, some problems maybe same with other device not only rmn8p.

The ANX Camera quality is the same as the stock MIUI camera ... have made a lot of test of both and have to say that ANX isn't bad at all!
You can see all my test and findings in this GCam Mods for Redmi Note 10 Pro tread here.

Thank you, i will try
I decided to buy the phone and see after reading all your thoughts. I specially want to see if the high refresh rate works well with an AOSP ROM too because that's one of the main parts of the phone that i want to take advantage of. And I would be happy as @dnana9 mentioned if there's options for me to take advantage of all the lenses. Lets see how it goes.
You won't regret it. I have been hopping from stock to Pixel Experience to Xiaomi.EU to AOSP Extended, and every ROM has minor quirks, but overall better than stock MIUI. And beteeen the 5-10 options you have, you should find the sweet spot.

Haven't tested other AOSP ROMs than the AOSP Extended but have tested few MIUI based one and have to say that AOSP Extended is super truper fast!
I'm using the same ROM on my other phone Redmi Note 7 and the ROM there is also so fast and smooth as a pretty new car from Tesla ...

Don't take adventure on your ass.
Indonesia ROM and you will be happy.
In terms of speed, smoothness and lack of problems, nothing beats this firmware.
And the camera is pretty good. Well, if it is infused correctly.
Good luck.

....I also like the Indonesia ROM. But what do you mean "...if it is infused correctly..."

General Great Performance

Hi Everyone,
It seems the device is performing great for everyone after the last batch of updates. Especially global enhanced rom.
This seems to be the only device with least problems threads on XDA (excluding .eu rom). I was a oneplus user before, and a pixel user earlier. Honestly, this device is best of all, even though stock rom is best, but features and enhancement in MIUI are really good, Oxygen OS is closest to stock, fastest (just for sometime, then now everything nearly the same), but with loads of bugs, most of them are just ignored and they just stay with you to the rest of the device life (my OP6T still got bugs since Launch date and now A11 still have them).
I bought this device just to test Xiaomi, I was about to buy OP9Pro and changed my mind on last minute (seriously last minute, had OP9Pro in cart already and was proceeding payment). And, surprisingly, I am really happy with my choice.
This is my experience with this device. I tried many devices, i stopped using Samsung since S9 (was my last device after starting with S3, S4, S6, Note 2, Note 3, Note 4, S8, S9) and i'll never go back to it, LG, Nexus, Pixel, Oneplus, Iphone 12 pro max.
And I really wanted to try Huawei if it had google service, and would love to see Harmony OS imported to Xiaomi if google services would work. But, it is what it is.
I am not biased to any device or brand, and I like to try new experience, luckily, this is one of best experiences with a new device I had.
I'm very happy with my Mi 11 Ultra now too. I've even flashed the latest Android 12 based 21.10.20 Xiaomi.EU weekly ROM and the battery life and stability has been rock solid.
I wasn't very impressed and blown away at the start - the camera wasn't performing that well and there were a lot of bugs and snagging issues there and there with it. It's now so much better and I'm really enjoying my phone too.

THanks for that info. I have had the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra in my giztop cart for about 6 days now. I've been ready to purchase for a while, having seen many good positives about the device and its fantastic performance and camera.
I'm also moving from a very buggy Oneplus 6T. When I upgraded to Android 11.. they have the APN settins for my carrier completely incorrect. So no mobile data. I'm just done with this phone, however loved it previously.

Just FYI, any APN issues on OP6T will move to this one, I had same carrier issue with OP6T before I move here. But that is not a biggie for me.
But regarding bugs,. Hell yeah, OP6T had more bugs by at least 10 to 15 times more than this one. Especially after latest miui update, nearly clean.

I would wait until the new one launches, the old stock will get cheaper or you can get the new 12 for the same price

While the Xiaomi 12 will be launched this month, the 12 Ultra and the enhanced edition will come next summer or later.

Not that late, they're going to want something to compete with Samsung
