I'm not sure about everyone. I heard from some people on stock about 6-7 hours SoT, but i don't know how. 5-6 sound much real)

5-6 sounds about right . That's very disappointing considering it's a 4000amh battery . I would have expected slot more hours.

I find the battery life ok but in need of some tweaks (hopefully) on AOD, 2t2w, wakelocks, cpu governors and so on.
Hopefuly they'll put the effort into it.
In my usage, i shut off the 2nd sim when i don't need it, aod, 2t2w/fingerprint is on (w/out the aod icon), reception set on 3g w/ occasional 4g, 120hz (not that much of an impact) but i restrict some of the apps that pool lots of resources and (with a few exceptions) i have most of the battery optimizations on (adaptive bat, managed auto-start aps, bg app mgmt, w/ bat draining apps off.
On an average day outdoors, spotify streams on very high most of the time to BT (aptx hd), some occasional pics/videos, plenty of instagram, some browsing and some youtube. I usually go to sleep w/ 20-30% left. Charging is done w/ shed charging and ultra steady charging during sched charging.
It is my opinion that the screen on very high brightness just eats through battery (I mostly avoid extended usage in direct sunlight).
While excluding the 120hz refresh rate, second battery hogs after the screen would be the 2t2w, aod and the general standby opptimizations.
I hope they'll address some of these but otherwise I pretty much love the tiny guy - there had to be a comproomise for the specs and pricepoint.

I think 5-6hrs with moderate usage is alright
First of all it has an 888 and flagship socs in general are known to have an higher battery consumption plus the higher refresh rate (and depends if you use 5g all the time or if you get a better reception in your area and other usage)
You can optimise some stuff in Asus autostart manager, disable aod (which consumes quite a bit of battery) and some other stuff and get slightly better battery life though
But Asus might optimise battery further with otas though

I got a root. After that, I changed the minimum frequencies of the processor (they are high in the drain, no matter what mode we choose). Chosen by a conservative governor. Removed all Google software. I set the refresh rate to 60 Hz. Disabled AOD. Sim one is 3g, the other is 2g. But I still get the same 5-6 hours. I have a suspicion that the reason for the fast discharge is the radio module.

By the way, what SAR level ZF8 has?
I have good signal 4G and 3G where my previous Note20 Ultra (865+) was often switching to 2G.

SAR value (head): 1,412 W/kg, SAR value (body): 1,582 W/kg (source)
I've attached the official SAR test report of the Zenfone 8, if anybody's interested.

Had mine a full day and the battery is appalling! Come from a p30 with bigger screen, smaller battery and less efficient soc and the ZenFone is draining about 40% faster. Came on here to ask the exact same question!!

Its strange, ZF8 has 4000 mah battery and battery is pretty poor. Seems asus lags behind in optimizing their software

Has there been any software update from Asus that improves the battery life? I've been reading that the battery is a big issue. I'm split between getting this phone or the Pixel 5. I'm currently using a s21U and have been using big screen phones the last few users but I'm ready to switch to a more compact phone, it's rare to find one nowadays. The market has more demand for big screen phones nowadays unfortunately and the current compact Android phone choices are very limited...

So, having used a few days now it has suddenly got much better. I'm off charge since 7am and am writing at 4pm and I'm at 80%. Not massive usage - 1 hour screen time with a little Pokémon go in between which seems pretty decent to me. I've disabled 5g, have screen on auto refresh rate and running latest firmware. I do wonder if low signal strength causes disproportionate power drain, the office saw me down to 30% by mid day work virtually no usage at all.

So I have Zenfone 8 since June and battery life is OK, I can get through a day. Saying that I am a pretty heavy user as I had to charge my pixel 3 twice in a day, while now when my father is using it, battery lasts for 2 days with 4-5h screen on time.
Here is my accubattery estimates. They have gone from 6h 10min to 6h 48m in the last week, so maybe the adaptive battery is affecting this.

Everything the same except AOD (only for night 8 hours) and auto-sync. Maybe auto-sync is the reason? It's setting in Accounts or some different auto-sync?

Huawei p9 screen on time

Can you guys post some screenshots what sot sre you getting?
Don't have a screenshot but I know I got +6.5hrs yesterday. I'll post a pic when battery runs down again. Still on MM.
In my opinion, P9 has pretty good Screen-On time.
Here is my average Screen-On time since 30th January 2017.

Have you been using the phone with full brightness?
In this battery test video, P9 with full screen brightness will last about 3 hours and 37 minutes.
In another video, a guy get 6 hours and 8 minutes out of his P9 from his normal usage pattern.
Most of the time, I would either be indoor or in my car. So, I think auto-brightness does not have to frequently increase screen brightness. That is probably the main reason why my screen-on time is good.
I also have an adblocker installed. Because Ad delivery system consumes a lot of battery.
This is an old article from 2012, but I believe it might still be true even today.
One example from their research, Out of 100% battery that Angry Bird app had used, only 30% was used by the game itself. The remaining 70% of battery consumption was used by tasks related to in-app advertisements.
If your phone is rooted, you can use Adaway.
If not, DNS66 is an adblocker that does not require root privilege.
Moreover, I mainly use my phone for communication (through Instant Messaging, E-mail, or web browser) and map. I do not have any 3D games installed. The most power intensive app I have installed is probably is Solitaire: Decked Out.
Additionally, some common causes of high battery usage are
- Proximity to cell tower. If you usually are in areas with bad reception, your phone will use more battery in order to connect to cell tower. Many areas have different signal strength for 2G, 3G and 4G LTE networks. Unless you really need to use high speed data, you can save battery by switching to networks that have the best reception.
- Wi-Fi consumes less battery than mobile data (3G, 4G LTE). Sometime people forget to turn Wi-Fi on. So make sure that you use Wi-Fi as often as you could.

Difficult for me to give you an accurate SOT because I never charge my battery above 80ish % I never charge to 100% as it stresses the battery too much but I'm delighted with my SOT always use auto brightness. Coming from a 2 year old Note 4 the P9 SOT is outstanding!

Do you mind to share which firmware you are using right now? Recently I have upgraded my firmware and the battery life has deteriorated.

Question What is your battery voltage and percent-charge?

Can y'all please dial *#0228# in your dialer apps and tell me what the voltage is and what the corresponding battery percent is?
I'm trying to also see what it is at 100%.
Thanks, just checking something.
I'm at 3.74V @ 26%.

Thanks. Please let me know your voltage if you charge to 100%.
It will vary at 100% ... or is it really 80%?
All I know for sure is it stops drawing current/increasing in voltage after reaching an indicated 100% no matter what you do.

My S21 Ultra reliably loses 1% an hour without significant intervention on my part and with very light phone usage. I'd say that this is the standby battery loss rate. I'm fine with that. Is that a normal experience?

Sounds like there's background activity going on.
Google backup Transport and Framework maybe. I have those two always package disable and Google play Services is turn off. Google Play Services is a vampire and not often needed by me except mostly for Gmail.
Playstore is also package disabled unless needed. Location is always off unless needed.
I like to see under 1%, think I'm getting about .5% with the tap on AOD setting. It still gets texts and phone calls; not in airplane mode. Wifi is always disabled, I don't use it and bluetooth is turned off at night which is mostly for security.
I have about 86 apks always disabled, most are bloatware anyway.
This stock 10+ is heavily configured but it gives it better battery life and is more secure.
With the newer more efficient memory and CPU you should be able to do better than me. I'm running on 4 G lte only, not sure if 5 G is still an issue now or not.
This is my SOT usage right now and a lot of that was streaming vids. Ha-ha notice the Accubattery charging reporting glitch, no idea what triggered that... Adroids.

I'm actually quite happy with 1% an hour. It is rather consistent too: 5G or LTE or WiFi -- all the same.

If you're using your device to it's full potential, without handicapping any of it's major functions, 1% per hour seems about at par with what i get on WiFi at home. This goes up to around 2% per hour when I have my Galaxy Watch connected to the phone via BT, and I'm at work, connected to 4G.
I have a Galaxy Tab S7 too, which is always synced to the S21U for "Calls and Messages on other devices" setting, and Seamless Earbud Connection enabled on the Buds Live and the Buds Plus, that allows them to automatically jump between the phone and the tablet depending on which device i pick up and start using. I also have Your Phone app running in the background, that connects my phone to my Windows laptop for calls, messages and notifications. My setup allows a close integration among all my devices and I can take calls or continue work on anything at home with a screen.
I'm using Dual SIMs, both on LTE, WiFi and BT always on, Auto-Sync enabled, FHD+ (my eyes couldn't appreciate the difference between FHD+ and WQHD+), Adaptive Refresh Rate, Auto-brightness enabled, and no debloating except what Device Care automatically puts to sleep/deep sleep. And with all this going, I've never run out of battery in a day, so far. If I were to use only the phone screen for everything, then maybe SOT would've mattered more - but I jump between devices at my convenience and my use-case scenario, and i like that flexibility and freedom. Samsung is the only non-apple company that makes such a cohesive eco-system currently across these many device categories.
So as long as my phone makes it to the end of the day (when everything gets plugged in anyway), I'm not looking to cripple any functionality on this expensive glass and silicon sandwich. I just want to get my money's worth...
So for my specific use case, I'm happy leaving the phone running everything it is capable of, while sipping a little battery in the background. YMMV.

My outlook is the same.
By the way, you might want to try Samsung Flow from the Microsoft Store. I find it to be loads better than Your Phone. It has every feature I would want. Drag and drop into a folder in the Files App. Control apps / screen remotely. Clipboard connection ON/OFF. And, more.

I tried it right after i got the phone but found the Your Phone integration a little better for calls, messages and notifications. Flow was better at file transfer definitely, but because most of my services are cloud based, I rarely require an actual inter-device file transfer.
But this was months ago, and maybe Flow has improved over time.
Thank you for the suggestion, I will try it out once again and see how it works for me.

The battery is ok, but, I have a standby drain of about 25% overnight in a 6 to 7 hrs period!, wifi on, syncing just gmail in one account, dark mode on, no screen lighting upon notifications, bluetooth off, location off, haptic on, brightness at 40%, good operator signal on 3G, this iw driving me crazy! I had a galaxy note 10+ exynos (that I gave to my son) that drained less than 1% per hour at idle, and syncing everything, max resolution, running in performnace mode, etc, I just do not undersatand why this redmi note 10 eats battery like crazy, despite hqving lower specs than the galaxy note10+, but, in the end, you get what you pay for, no more, and most of the times, even less…
To figure out the culprit behind such phantom battery drains I find installing GSam Battery Monitor helpful.
Install it and let it run for a few charge discharge cycles and post screenshots to see actual usage vs standby drain

Looks like you brought it from 17% - 25% overnight drain down to 1% after optimizing your device? Try GSam

I have this device since August 27th, after setting it up, I started optimizing it, restricted background use for a lot of apps, well, everything that could be disabled or restricted, I only gave free pass to apps I consider important, but, the reults were really bad, 17% of overnight drain! Long story short, the optimization must be done very carefully, trying to stop all kind of things might prove negative, by trial and error, I now get a good battery life, now it barely consumes 1% in 8-9 hrs idling at night, aod off, wifi on, gps on, so, try to optimize your device carefully

Here are some tips to improve standby time by hibernating background apps using the Greenify app
How to Optimize Your Android Phone’s Battery Life with Greenify
At this point, smartphones are prolific. We use them for calls, text messages, social networking, photos, quick searches, streaming music, watching videos…the list goes on. But each thing you do drains your battery life, and some apps will even continue to drain your battery in the background...
www.howtogeek.com
I get around 20 hrs of backup with moderate gaming about 1 hour... Lots of fb youtube.. and also decent standby..
I use dark mode turning of individual apps..(coz it's glitchy).
I use automatic brightness..
auto brightness always on dark mode, sometimes I go two to three days without charging if I don't use much.
When gaming and watching youtube, browsing the web I usually put my phone on charge at around 50-40% battery life late at night and take it off charge either before I go to sleep or when I wake up. I've been VERY happy with my battery life on this device, I've never had any smartphone last this long in my life and it plays the PS2 (AetherSX2 app) games I want to as well, such a great cheap device.
For today my phone has been on for 26 hours and it's at 66% but I didn't use it that much, I played maybe one DB legends match, caught a few pokemon in pokemon go and watched some youtube vids.
I'm on global 12.5.15
edit: 30 minutes later and I am on 65% battery down from 66%
edit: so this morning about 10 hours after my previous edit I put my phone on charge at 51% battery life.

I had a galaxy note 10+ exynos (that I gave to my son) that drained less than 1% per hour at idle, and syncing everything, max resolution, running in performnace mode, etc, I just do not undersatand why this redmi note 10 eats battery like crazy, despite hqving lower specs than the galaxy note10+, but, in the end, you get what you pay for, no more, and most of the times, even less…

was there an issue with earlier versions of MIUI or something? coz I've only gotten my phone for about two months now and I've never been happier with a phone's battery life
Guys I recently got a Redmi Note 11 and so far battery life has been great, but Cell Standby is draining the most battery. Why? Even though its always connected to Wifi and I'm using only 1 sim card. Never had this issue with my other android phones.

this isn't for the redmi note 11
See attached. Guess those processes are what cause not great idle battery usage for the 10s (maybe ALL mtk g95 devices? ).
Anyone with an idea if
* those can be killed without affecting anything else?
* what exactly is "vendor.mediatek.hardware.pq" doing?
And since its named "pq" is this related to the oversharpening issues?

I couldn't find a thread specifically for Note 11 so I posted here. Its MIUI, its the same whether its 10S or 11, hence I asked.

yeah so basically you can kill pq by deleting one file in /vendor/etc/init, but doing that will result in broken color mode stuff, meaning no reading mode, no saturated mode etc.
So, I had to reformat my 10s after it began acting funny (lots of random reboots, weird behaviour.. )
(PS: never let your phone run down to zero - I've read this somewhere that it causes corruption somewhere and I think this is what happened to mine)
Great timing miui 13 global is available, so now have the reason to upgrade from 12.5
and now... the pq process I saw running all the time eating CPU is gone or at least running sane now, as shown in the screenshot.
Ongoing monitoring of battery but this is a great start, and a great reason to jump to miui 13.
I charge between 20%-80% that means i get 60% of alloted use and i get 5-6 hours SOT on light usage , browsing chrome and watching YouTube(10% charge per 60 minutes basically), when i do heavy activities like emulating ps 2 games (Aethersx2) it drains from 80% to 20% in around 2hours.

I get 1-2% overnight drain

Question SOT is lesss really less

I've seen a maximum of 5 hours of SOT since I got the phone. My sot time is very short when I see other people's sot times. I always use the phone with the following features; +4G +always bluetooth +always location + no wifi +always sync +dolby atmos +dark mode +when i got notifications aod. Although I turned off the settings I used, I still could not do this for more than 5 hours.

Show us a screenshot of battery usage when you are at 10% - not at 80% - then we can see where all your battery fuel is going.

Battery is draining extremely fast on Android 12 (BULK) as well...
Is there a way to know if our phones haven't been manufactured by Samsung?
- There is Korea but also Vietnam etc... this might have an impact somehow?
What are you doing on whatsapp....that's a huge drain....

whatsapp is always a huge drain if you use to send and receive messages. My solution to this was enable multi-device login. I, now, use Whatsapp mainly on my computer when I'm at work and then revert to the phone when I'm off. The led to a huge difference. What used 25%+ for whatsapp..now stands at 4-5% over the day.

Does your battery run out by the end of your typical workday? Do you have to charge it during the day everyday, or can you get to the charger comfortably when going to sleep at night? SOT by itself isn't a very good metric when seen in isolation.

So your battery level goes to 20% or below by every noon? Sheesh, that is indeed potato battery life...
But your screenshot suggests a pretty good standby time, nearly 11 hours usage and 72% remaining...
Maybe post the battery usage screenshot once your battery dips below 20% so we can try to pinpoint the issue?

Actually my battery level around %50 in noon. For example this screen shot is today after noon. In noon was %100
I am 90% sure that your battery drain is caused by the mediocre 4G signal which is used for internet at all times. A lot of power is basically being allocated to get a better signal and thus while you use WS all the time, your batt drains FAST. If you happen to have Wi-Fi for a day or two and the signal is maxed out, the battery will surely last longer. Generally speaking though, you cannot compare other peoples SOT to yours as most people do not use WS as much as you, nor 4G at all times.
There might be some other extra settings that could be altered to improve battery, like:
adaptive battery ON
enhanced processing OFF
location OFF
background data OFF
resolution to FHD
background usage limit to put rarely used apps to sleep
NFC OFF
nearby device scanning OFF
And of course the last version of android 11, as it seems A12 is not yet worthy or ruling the S21U. Sadly I have a feeling that Samsung might not fix A12 for the S21U as they are now releasing the S22. Hope I'm wrong.
The Big Battery drainers:
Screen - If you have manually set it high - Try Auto
Mobile Signal - Nothing you can do if its poor - unless possibility of WIFI
Location - Always On is a no no if you can help it - try use when app open only.
Background Data - Turn off for apps which its not reqd .
Also Since Android 12 I also seem to get lower SOT although my phone battery has been same since android 11. Im not sure if they changed the way they show/measure SOT now.

Question MIUI 13. Is battery really any better?

Xiaomi claims that battery life has improved by around 10% for the Mi 11 on MIUI 13. I really like the phone but the battery is one of its weaker points, so I was wondering if the battery life really does improve by 10% like they claim or whether it actually gets worse with the update. I still have not received the global release so I cannot judge for myself.
I received the EEA miui 13 update (mi pilot) and I must say battery life increased after enabled "Suspend Execution for cached apps" option from developer options. Other than I can't say anything because immediately enabled this option when I installed the update but I saw others complain about the battery who received (probably they don't have knowledge about this trick). So I'm pretty satified with the battery life on this update.

What exactly does "Suspend Execution for cached apps" mean? Also, could you give me a ballpark percentage of the battery improvement?
based on source code comments:“Freeze apps when cached and unfreeze them once removed from the cache or killed. Frozen apps will not use any CPU cycles, reducing power consumption for misbehaving processes which might attempt to run while cached,”
For my usage the idle drain is better.. Battery drained 4-5% overnight (8hrs of sleep) instead of 8-10%. The SOT also better 12-13% instead of 16-17% per hour. In the other hand the new rom has new bugs but the battery life increased with this setting at least.
With last MIUI 13 battery life is clearly 10% worse for me. I have even did a factory reset and flashed again the full rom in recovery, and no improvement.

wow if those numbers apply to me i'd call that a significant improvement, 50% less consumption in idle and 30% less in SOT really is worth it. Just to confirm though, i don't quite understand what enabling suspend execution for cached apps actually does practically speaking in a day to day usage experience.

Well, by those source code comments above, I would say that it completely freezes the background apps that are cached in RAM. So Viber, Whatsapp and stuff like that can't work/sync in the background, hence the lesser battery drain.
@nerve1004 is there any whitelist possibility? Do you get notifications from messaging apps in the background?
@b0nebreaker Messaging apps and notifications don't afftected. I think the process recognize apps automatically. I never miss a single notification since it's enabled. I updated just because of this new android feature. Xiaomi enabled to switch on from dev options fortunately.

On A11 some apps interrupted so be aware.
battery life worse by 10-15% after update... and yes "suspend execution..." is enabled
Battery life is just excellent in EEA MIUI 13 13.0.4, clean flash. Better than Xiaomi.eu for me
Since MIUI 13 update, charging speed is randomly slow, i need to reboot it. Damn, never had such an awful smartphone
Has anybody managed to fix the battery drain?
I have to charge the phone 3x during the day, the drain is faster on standby than during use...
I don't know what's wrong on your side but you needs to check your settings. My battery life still decent. I disabled 5G and debloated digital wellbeing and facebook stuffs and I use facebook from browser. Screen is on FHD+ @ 60hz that's all I did.

We don't even have 5G, also [email protected], max SOT time I get is 2-3 Hours...
Screen and Android system are two top battery users, so nothing out of ordinary...
Before MIUI 13, I would get 5 Hours of SOT
If I were you I would do a clean flash with miflash and don't restore anything from backup. Once it helped a lot for me when 12.5 arrived. Anyway 12.5 was worse and enhanced even worse in battery life for my usage.
I would say battery life it is okay. Nothing compared to 12.5 where with my same usage I would do 9%/h. Unluckily there is this android system battery drain bug.
