Question Disable Google home news (left swipe home screen) - OPPO Find X3 Pro

I don,t know how to really call it, but how to disable the Google news feed on the swipe left home?
Another problem is sending a contact shortcut to the homescreen. it says its already there bu its not.
Lucky i didn,t get this phone myself, its UI is just horrible ****.

If you do not like the UI change it or get rid of the mobile. For you it is horrible but for most of users not. It is a matter of taste.
Good luck with it.

Thx, very helpful

use a third party launcher to get rid of google page (lawnchair launcher 2,nova launcher)
and make sure you haven't locked homescreen when adding contact shortcut

I accidentally found a way to remove the Google feed.
I tried installing 'Breeno feed' from APK mirror. The phone required rebooting before it appeared on the left of my homescreen.
Most of the features didn't work properly, probably due to my phone being from the UK. So I uninstalled it (on app menu shows as 'Quick Glance').
After uninstalling it, Google feed no longer appears on my home screen, in fact I can't swipe left at all now
It stayed gone after a reboot and hopefully won't cause any issues.
Just thought I'd share this info and hope it can help someone.

After another reboot today Google feed reappeared..
So I just quickly repeated the steps and it's gone again. I guess it doesn't remain after a reboot.

Hi I've upgraded to this phone today from my find X2 pro and I saw this thread so I extracted the Smart Assistant apk from the find x2 installed it on the find x3 and it works fine but you only get weather, calendar and step counter features with my apk I've attached below if any of you want it.
Edit: there's a bug with weather not updating but otherwise it's better than having google on it I guess
Install apk and reboot.

Excellent it works weather hasn't updated yet but at least it's not an eye sore like the Google feed!

Yh it doesn't update for me either I'll have to let people know that

There is another solution for disabling it completely which was shared by wedaxi on reddit:
Hello, maybe it's late to leave an answer but this is how I removed the google feed completely from the home screen.
You need to enable developer tools on your phone: https://developer.android.com/studio/debug/dev-options
Download Android Studio on your computer (this is the easiest way to install adb wich you will need, but you can search how to install adb independently)
Connect your phone to the computer with usb cable (you can also connect the phone wirelessly but the cable is the easiest method https://developer.android.com/studio/command-line/adb)
Once you are connected use this command from the computer console to disable google feed app
adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox
This only disables the app, it does not uninstall it, to do that you probably need to root the phone and I just don't recommend it.
I'm sorry if this method is not the easiest, this is what I did after not finding any other solution and It works.
However the Goolge-App and Lens won't work afterwards!

Hey there,
I found a way to "disable" the Google feed without installing another launcher.
If you hide the Google App in the Privacy Settings, when you swipe left, nothing happens. The icon at the bottom which indicates how many pages there are is still visible but honestly it doesn't bother me much.
Hopefully, Oppo will add the option to hide the Google Feed page.
Cheers

One touch lock app?

I was wondering if there was a one touch lock app. I guess in a way it's similar to the iphone? Just press the widget and the phone's lockscreen engages. I dont want to press the power button all the time. I also have the screen on the quickest time out but sometimes find my phone doing weird things in my pocket lol. I've tried as many apps I could find but none of them seem to fit my needs.
I found one that does what I want but according to the reviews, people have problems with it and can't uninstall it. I dont really wanna take that chance.
Description from appbrain:
Lock Screen Widget
Locks your phone with one click iPhone-style.
Before uninstalling widget make sure to disable admin permissions in Location & security > Select device admin > Lock Screen Widget
So does anyone know of such an app?
Also how does one go about disabling the admin permissions in android 2.1 if I do decide to install the lock screen widget?
Thanks
I've got that installed. Works great. My power button stopped working when I replaced my digitizer.

You quoted the name of the app and instructions for how to use it................. search the market for "Lock Screen Widget" ..............
So I did but did you read the reviews? People can't uninstall it. I dont know about you but I can't find the admin permissions if I do need to uninstall it (obviously our phone doesnt have "location and security" it just has location and security listed separately but no "select device admin"). Maybe I'm looking under the wrong setting? Maybe I should've said I'm looking for something similar...

I installed it and was able to uninstall it as well. The instructions are right on the market page for the widget about disabling it in 'Select Device Administrators', but I have no idea why you wouldn't have that option.
Are you using the stock rom?
Yes I am using the stock rom. I'm guessing the device admin is in froyo.
I guess maybe I should get CM6 lol..
thanks for the info

P20 Pro Google feed not showing any cards

Hi,
I have been playing around with my new P20 Pro and setting it up to match with what I was used to on my Nexus 6P.
Coming from pure Nexus experience, I really liked the personalised cards you would see on your Google feed (when you swipe right on the home screen)
With EMUI default launcher, it has the option to show Google feeds, but nothing is showing up on the Google Assistant/Now screen when I swipe right on the home screen. It only shows the Google search bar at the top.
Is anyone else experiencing this issue or have figured out how to get it working? I have looked at a few things online and nothing there is helpful.
I had that issue but after I had finished setting everything up it was working fine. Sadly I can't remember exactly what I did to fix it. Try going through all the Google stuff. Hold the home button and set up Google Assistant. Go into the Google settings and have a play in there
You should have an options menu when you swipe right on the home screen. Be sure to enable feed and any other relevant options. Hopefully you figure it out.

Hi Highspeed123,
Thanks for your reply.
I have tried all of those things, set up Assistant, enabled feed in Google Settings and in EMUI Launcher's setting. Played around with various properties in Google Settings too, to no avail.
Hopefully, someone else would have figured out how to get it working.
Thanks
So, after trying various things and trying to search online, I had a stroke of luck. Here are the steps that helped me get the Google feed and the cards working on the right swipe of home screen.
1. Open Play Store
2. Select Google App
3. Uninstall (this will uninstall any updates that were applied)
4. Check you Google feed from the home screen (it should now be working but showing you content in some different format)
5. Come back to Play Store
6. Update the Google App
7. Return to home screen to check your Google feed and the cards now appear in the format you are used to
8. Phew...
It was tricky to figure this all out and had little help out there on the internet.
So, I hope this helps anyone else out there struggling with the setup to enjoy their shinny new P20 Pro
Cheers

Yes, I noticed that on Thursday when the Google app updates were pushed out. I have skipped the update for now.
This updates are so temperamental on non stock Android!!

Mine is sluggish to get going. I often need to do a Google search and swipe backwards and forward a couple of times and then it will populate.
Been working fine all day, then all of a sudden stopped working again!
Same issue.
Worked for me - thx!
Has anyone found any other solutions than this? I've tried this as well as clearing all Google data, to no avail. Is there any other suggestions?
I use Lawnchair Launcher and Lawnfeed for this.

Not sure if you have already tried it, but another workaround is to simply search for something in the search bar at the top and after closing the search results, the feeds starts appearing!
Not necessarily reliable the whole Google feeds and Maps app on a non stock Android phone, but we all wanted a super camera
Google seems to have updated. i now get a feed and navigation items at the bottom. It looks different with a smaller search field. Seems ok but I can't swipe stuff i'm not interested in away any more.
I've had the same problem, got my on the first day of release. It's taken till today to finally work! Hopefully yours starts working soon too!

Widgets not opening associated apps

I have a very nice new K20 Pro direct from China. Because I'm not a big fan of MIUI, I'm running Action Launcher. My only problem is with widgets: I can place them, they function as normal (updating automatically and on touch, or playing - Pocket Casts - etc). But the associated app doesn't open on tap. Not on a single widget. I've granted all the apps all the permissions I could find, de-restricted battery on those apps, allowed apps to start other apps, all to no aviail.
I thought maybe it was something to do with Action Launcher, but it does it with Nova Launcher as well, which suggests it's a MIUI thing.
It's a little bit annoying - such a simple thing! Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

It's definitely a MIUI thing. I had the same when using Evie Launcher. For me it worked for the first couple of times after installing the widget, then stopped altogether. I found MIUI is very aggressive at killing backgrounds processes and services and so put it down to that. I never managed to found out how to fix it. But as soon as I could unlock the bootloader I've been on GSI ROMs and haven't looked back. Everything works fine again now.
It has to do with the app permissions, I had it too and I fixed it
Try to give it permission to start in background.
That seemed to fix it for me.
Oh and in developer options, I also scrolled down all the way, and turned off MIUI optimization.

Thanks, I did all of that. As best I could, they don't make it easy to find these things! No change. Anyone else?
Solved - somehow!
So it started working. Widgets open apps on Action launcher.
I actually switched MIUI Optimisations back on in Developer options, as this allows you to access more permissions, and I made sure again that Action Launcher has every permission granted to it. It now asks every time I open any app for the first time if it can do so, and I think that was what was holding it back before. Also made sure there was no battery restriction on the launcher itself. So now the phone is functioning as it should, and I can enjoy it fully.
Edit: And I also gave Action Launcher accessibility access...
Same here
I've just come across the same problem. For me it was the option 'Display pop-up windows while running in the background'. that had to be enabled for the app in question.. Apparently the last system update either disabled this for all my widgets or introduced the feature in the first place.
der_faebu that did it for me, thanks.

Well I figured out the solution:
Go to settings --> Installed apps --> Permissions --> Additional permissions and then Allow 'Start in background' for the apps which are not getting opened. No way to do this for all apps in one click though....

Question Hide app feature not working

hi, I'm trying to enable the "hide app" of ColorOS 11 on my Oppo Find X3 Pro (global).
I can correctly select apps to hide, set up the access code (for example #1234#), but after that the apps are still visible on drawer and homeage. And if I digit the access code on the launcher, nothing happens. I suspect the features is not working because I have google dialer and not the oppo one so maybe the feature to manage the access code is not implemented there.
Do you have any clue on how to fix this? or does the "hide app" works in your phone?
This moment...when you are trying to hide Tinder from your GF ◉‿◉
Just kidding ofc xD
On my phone it works flawlessly - i have an oppo dialer.

Hi. Did your phone come with oppo dialer?
actually it was my fault... I forgot the golden rule of IT
Just rebooting the phone (I didn't reboot after activating the hide app feature, but it was not specified in the instructions) made the hide app feature work.
The only minor glitch is that on google dialer, after I enter the access code #xyz# and the hidden app menu opens, next time I open the dialer it still has the access code visibile and I have to manually delete it.

actually this problem is not solved. After each reboot it works flawlessy, but after some time (maybe 1/2 day; I don't know exactly) it stops working. When I enter the access code on dialer, nothing happens, until next reboot. I suspect the issue is related to ColorOS policy to kill/suspend apps (maybe the one that manage hidden apps is suspended), but didn't found any way to fix this issue. Do you have any clue?

Sorry to hear that.
I suggest removing google dialer temporarily to check whether it is an issue with the firmware or google dialer.
After that let us know.
Btw. Have u installed google dialer during phone initial setup or after?
As a workaround I suggest using external app to hide applications - they worked great for me before. Just use google play store and search for "Hide App"

actually google dialer is the default one from factory, I don't have oppo dialer (and I don't think I can even install it being a system app). From what I understood, the fact that some unit have oppo dialer and others (like mine) google dialer depends on the region. My unit is an european one (italian).
I will try external app, thanks for your suggestion.

So I finally got the update for ColorOS 11 on my Oppo Find X2 Pro yesterday and so far I like it. However, there is no way to auto-hide the navigation buttons.
I've tried navigation gestures but just cannot get used to them (I will try again some time I promise), so I'm back to my trusty navigation buttons. However, unlike ColorOS 7,i cannot find the option to automatically hide (or press a button to hide) these when in apps, etc. so I now can't have a full screen experience.
Has anyone found how to do this yet?

hide apps milestoneapply :
Long-tap on any empty space on your home screen.
In the bottom right corner, tap the button for home screen settings.
Scroll down on that menu and tap "Hide apps."
In the menu that pops up, select any apps you want to hide, then tap "Apply."
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, our R&D Team has already started working on it to get this issue fixed. Rest, please be assured this issue will get resolved in next software update.
However, until then, you may also try alternative way for accessing the hidden apps by following below steps:
1. Device Settings > Fingerprint > Fingerprint for hidden apps quick-start
2. Select any registered finger (best option to use rarely used finger to unlock the device so that it won't open every time)
We thank you for patience and understanding.

Question Default Launcher Question.

Hi all,
When I swipe right on the home screen it opens some sort of "News" page. Anyone know what app or service I need to kill to stop it? I have de-bloated almost everything using ADB AppControl but must have missed it.
Thanks for the help.
There's a setting to turn off "shelf".
I forget where it's at since i'm using nova launcher.

The "shelf" I believe is the swipe down one. You can turn that off in settings. Swipe left opens a google news page by default; I haven't figured out how to turn it off tbh and have just gotten used to it, hahaha. I'm sure there's an app you can uninstall with adb to nuke it though.

i guess they changed it. the far left page used to be the shelf page.
Lethal injection, it'll stop directly
Just turn off the google application, you can remove the news bar on the left. Another way to turn it off is to go to the main page settings but it only supports the domestic rom
Thank you for the replies.
Now if I can just get this phone to play audio on every notification like it's supposed to.....Otherwise being a first time OnePlus user is great.
