Question Updated to Android 12 - Google Pixel 5a

I just got my 5a yesterday. After updating to Android 12, the weather stopped working. I had to add a widget to the home screen to see the weather. Now I have 2 dates on my screen. Is there any way to fix this?
Regards

Are you running stock? I had that issue by using the old Magisk and the old saftynet fix on my 3a XL. Leaving my 5a on Android 11 till 12 is improved or something cause I am finding it hard to like A12.

Yes it's stock. The way I fixed was, I made a second account under multiple users. Then I switched back to my original, deleted the second accounts, it's been fixed ever since...

Issues with B385 (C636)

Just thought I'd give a heads up to those thinking of updating to B385.
And also would like to ask if anyone else on B385 are having the same issue/s?
1. My auto-rotate is no longer working, have tested with several different gallery/photo viewing apps, and it stays in whatever orientation the photo was taken in (ie.
portrait/landscape).
2. When I open the 'Recent Apps' menu, I can only swipe to close 2 apps, maybe 3 (sometimes), before it closes and goes back to my home page.
So far this is all I've noticed. Did not have any of these issues on B384, and B385's changelog only mentions an update to the 1 September security patch, no other 'bug fixes/optimisations'.
Anyway these are quite minor and don't really have too much effect on my day-to-day use of the phone. Still waiting for Huawei to authorise B386 (1st October patch) and hopefully these little niggles get fixed.
On another note, is there an official channel where we can log a ticket for these issues? Would like to think they'd want to be made aware of these bugs before the release of future updates.

I have the same update but to C432 B376 (1SEP security patch) but don't have those issues.
Have you tried to do a factory reset after upgrade?

Yeah have factory reset after the install. Oh well the Oct patch update should be authorised soon, so I'll see then.
Ok figured it out, seems my live wallpaper is the cause of these bugs.
Switched to a static one, and it's fine. Switched back to live, and issues reappear (although auto-rotate is now working).
First time I've used a live wallpaper, so no idea if this has always been the case (or even if it's due to this particular wallpaper)

ok, i have install the app and set the live wallpaper.
Auto rotation works with no problem.
No problem with swipe to close app in recent app. I just closed 10.
Dunno what cause your problem.
You have C636 and i running C432, that's the different.
Yeah no idea, I disable it and everything works fine. Enable again and recent show keeps closing after 1-2 swipes (the first time) after that it seems to work fine.

Google photos issue after update

Hello All,
I have recently bought a global version of MI 9 and everything was fine until one of the updates that I got.
1. I got the MIUI update with the June security patch (Android Version - 9 PKQ1.181121.001, MIUI version - MIUI GLOBAL VERSION 10.2.13 STABLE 10.2.13.0 (PFAMIXM))
2. Google photos shows as last updated on the same day (4.21.0.258856319)
Everything else is fine, but after I open Google Photos and open any photo, the photo just dims. Is hard to explain and hence attaching the video for details. Any ideas ??
Video can be found here - https://photos.app.goo.gl/vBvLXTAQXBiADV7j7
Uninstall Google photo update and check if the problem stay.
My Google photo version is 4.20 updated on 18 July.
I have the exact same issue on Mi 9 Global.
Downgraded Google Photos to 4.15.0.245117517 and the dimming issue when opening a photo went away.
Found the same problem with eu rom, downgrade to be Google Photos 4.17.0.249919200 is also good.
Need to wait until newer Google Photos version before trying again.
In display setttings/contrast use normal, adaptive and boost cause the dimming effect

It's not that issue. I've got the same since the last update and haven't touched anything. Apparently Google screwed up and thank God it's not only me.
Download the latest gphotos and disable any contrast settings and dimming does not accur
Issue is caused from Google Photo's app, not from build.
Just got 4.21 version of Google photo and the issue start like yours,so i decided to change the colors mode in display setting to standard and it seems to fix it somehow but not like as before, still little dimming or contrast adjustment happening.
I have unistalled updates in app settings, then update from playstore and now is ok
Using standard display will made screen look like washed out and not rich colors.
Removing the update + reinstalling fixed it.

I don't use Google photos but I do recall seeing people complain about this on another forum and a different phone... So looks like it's a bug in Google photos not miui.

It's due Google Photos now support Wide Color Gamut including P3 color mode, other android app just support sRGB. Therefore Google Photos can now differentiate more colors than before which is good, but our android versions don't support it now. It works flawlessly in Pixel phones but causing Yellowish/Green tint or dimming or contrasty in others. Don't worry GPhotos may roll back this update temporarilyhttps://www.xda-developers.com/google-photos-wide-color-image-support-buggy-photo-viewer/

Facebook App appears twice on One UI launcher on Note 9

Hello,
I've noticed that ever since the last official OneUI updare for the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 I get two options for opening facebook links that point to the same app. Is this safe or is my phone hacked/insecure? Android security patch level is July 2019.
Cheers!

humm maybe something having to do with dual messenger or something?
i dont use facebook but check that menu none the less.
Hi man, that was a good suggestion, I had no idea what Dual Messenger is, but after some digging I know now that it's used to access different accounts for some apps that would normally use just one login. Unfortunately it's off for both facebook and (facebook) messenger. So there might be something else, also the name of the app itself is the same.

maybe 1 old preloaded Facebook from stock and another from an other source(sideload or from an store like aptoide). just go to system /apps and delete/disable/uninstall it). if you see 2 then theres ure issue. uninstall both and get a fresh copy off of playstore. then check if it is still there 2x in ure choices when u open a link. if yes then i suspect you might have some other app maybe faking it? idunno...
i have the same issues. as we know that facebook came pre installed in our phone, so my guess is that one is the pre installed version and one is the version that got updated in playstore. this issue needs to be addressed by the samsung. hopefully in next update.

Why is my Google Camera app not updating the UI?

I got a brand new 4a 5g earlier this year, and enrolled in the 12 beta.
I was excited for the camera update since I hate the slider and the preset focus pill is tons better.
Since then, Ive never got it. I got the Material You changes, but the rest of the UI never changed to the pill. Ive tried every current APK, ive uninstalled, reinstalled, and even did a factory reset. I just downloaded the APK for the 8.4 version, and it did nothing.
I was told it was a Beta issue on the Google forums. Since then Ive unenrolled and Im on 12 stable. Still no change.
Is it a server side thing, or does anyone have any idea on how.to fix it or change it or force the update? Im run ing out of ideas.

Question Cannot add widgets on Nova 7 (on Android 12)

I just got a Zenfone 8, and I updated it to Android 12 (UL-I006D-ASUS-31.1010.0410.43-1.1.25-2202-user.zip). I installed Nova Launcher, and I cannot widgets.
Video: https://drive.google.com/file/d/10N5oYJ3oG_wWFjtLtrKT5C0awkV49P75/view?usp=sharing
Looking at Nova's logs, I see:
Code:
java.lang.NullPointerException: Attempt to read from field 'com.android.server.appwidget.AppWidgetServiceImpl$ProviderId com.android.server.appwidget.AppWidgetServiceImpl$Provider.id' on a null object reference
So, it seems ASUS's Android 12 build is missing something from its settings app.
Does anyone else have an issue adding widgets? I tried Lawnchair and have the same issue. ASUS Launcher obviously works fine.

I have experienced no problems adding widgets with the same firmware version: neither on Nova nor on Microsoft launcher.

Really? Weird. I've had issues on Nova and Lawnchair.
Could it have something to do with my phone being rooted?
There's lot I can try, it's curious that I'm having this issue though. Clearly, I'm doing something wrong, but I don't know what.

Mu guess is that you accidentally uninstalled an essential app while debloating. Could that be the case?
I didn't "debloat," per se. Though I guess I did disable some apps that I don't use. I didn't think I disabled anything too important, but I can check that.

Actually NTI, the same thing just happening to me without root on my ZP8.
I've been on A12 for a couple weeks, but my battery life was dismal. So yesterday, I decided to do a factory reset. Battery life improved, but now I cannot place widgets in third-party launchers. (The launcher app's stock widgets do seem to work, but that's it.)
I attached a quick video showing the issue. (Side note – notice how mine says, "Settings has stopped" when I try to add a widget.)
The real pain is this did not happen until I factory reset the other day. In other words, I was able to place widgets in Nova on Android 12 without issue.
I reached out to Nova, who told me that this is an issue with all third-party launchers on the Zenfone 8 running A12. I then tried placing a widget on a few others and found the same problem.
Nova then sent me to talk to Asus, who told me, "Sadly we wouldn't be able to assist with a 3rd party launcher."
5-star response. Anyway, I'm just glad to see others bringing this up. Hopefully Asus makes a fix for the bug.

I switched to using Niagara Launcher, and I am happy and am able to live without widgets... but it would be nice to use them. I assumed re-installing Android 12 would fix it, but I didn't try that. I'm hoping ASUS eventually pushes a new Android 12 build, and that installing that will fix whatever is missing.
In my video, I have the same issue where it says "settings has stopped."
EDIT:
So, I went to ASUS' website and found the download for Android 12 (WW-31.1010.0410.43). And in the description, I see:
This upgrade patch only allows to upgrade from Android 11 WW-30.12.112.72, WW-& 30.12.112.82 versions to Android 12.

I don't know what version of Android 11 was on the phone when I got it. I got the phone, booted it up, skipped through the setup screen and immediately upgraded to Android 12. Then I unlocked the bootloader, thus factory resetting the phone and then I went though the setup for real. After that, I installed Magisk.
So, maybe I needed to upgrade to the latest Android 11 first? But, that makes no sense as the Android 12 upgrade worked. No idea why I (and you) are having this issue and others aren't.

I'm not sure. But it's super frustrating because I was on A12 without an issue like this. As far as I know, only the Asus ZenUI Launcher allows me to have widgets now.
What part of a factory reset—weeks after I installed the latest update—would cause widgets to stop working in third-party launchers? So annoying. Lol
