Hello,
I just got a hdmi to dvi converter so I could plug the microusb to hdmi adapter to my monitor via dvi.
However the galaxy note wants to push audio out to the monitor which obviously is for picture only.
I want the audio to come back out from the speakers again, does anyone know an app that can switch audio outputs? I tried googling but nothing pops up that forces android to output audio to certain outputs, like speaker or headset.

Tried that app but doesnt have option to select audio outputs
Just has volume options.
There doesnt seem to be an HDMI setting either after plugging in the hdmi adapter.
get a Y splitter for audio cable. get a male to male audio cable.
Uplug your speaker audio cable from your computer. Lets call this the speaker cable.
plug the y cable into your audio jack to your computer.
Plug your speaker cabe into one of the Y splitters.
Plug one end of your male to male audo cable into the other side of the splitter.
Now plug the last part into your phone. its a work around, but cheap and easy work around.

Under $5. radio shack will cost you $9 for the splitter itself. I just got it a few weeks ago
please tell me the brand of hdmi mhl you have with a link if possible and the converter for the hdmi > dvi. I cant get mine to work for my nexus.

Can anyone confirm if this has USB Audio out? If so, what cable do I need or if I need to hook it up to a DAC?
I want to hook the phone up to when I'm in my car's AUX so I can listen to music. I really don't want to use the headphone jack because 1, it's on top, and 2, I'd need to plug 2 things in if I need to charge the phone.

I've read many reviews of using bluetooth. From $20 to $100... they all have lower quality then direct cable. I do have a quite nice sound system in my car and quality is really important to me so I'd rather go with the direct cable.
I'm still considering selling the 4 for the One once it's available here and so far, things are looking quite good. I do hope I can have the option of choosing the higher MP camera since I am here in China/Hong Kong. I do like to be able to crop pictures.

Same here, prefer cables. Using a cable to go from an iPod interface to a Samsung dock. Hopefully I could get a similar dock (or deconstruct this one) to use with the One.

If history is a guide, the aptx Samsung HS3000 is likely more economical than the HTC version. AptX bluetooth is pretty good, but it will be the weak link in a high-end setup. If your environment is quiet, you can definitely hear the difference vs. wired IEMs. For car though, not bad.

My experience with HTC One
When using various music players including my preference NeutronMP with Fiio E17 connected via USB otg cable is that HTC One outputs analog audio and thus the E17 dac / headphone amp is acting as an amplifier only.
When I use the same hardware with USB Audio recorder Pro trial it works as expected, that is Usb outputs digital audio and the E17 operates as a dac and amp.
The paid version of usb audio recorder Pro doesn't work at all.
Edit usb audio recorder pro now works fine
I am on custom Rom ARHD 4.2
Edit now ARHD 9.3 plus custom kernel

I've got an old car dock that worked for my old Samsung phone to charge and output audio, but doesn't seem to for htc one. For the Samsung I had to run a program in the background to get the dock to output sound via usb. Is there a setting I need or background program needed to run for this too?
Any help would be awesome, thanks!

A better option is the Samsung HS3000 with a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable going from HS3000 headphone socket out to the AUX car input.

Won't happen, the whole point of a dac is it takes the digital signal from usb, and converts it to audio.
Much like how your cd player converts the data on the disc to audio, you need the necessary hardware for it to work.
A dock is just a simple usb connector, nothing more.

Ok, but my old phone was capable of outputting audio this way without any other hardware. It was phone=>dock=>aux input. I thought the car dock was wired a special way so the phone knew it was a car dock, not just a regular usb connection. Once the phone knew it was attached to a car dock, it would turn on my car home screen app and run another program that I found here at xda that told the phone to output via usb instead of the speaker. But that program I think was specific to Samsung.
I could be wrong about the details of how, but the setup worked. Just curious if I could do the same with my one. Maybe not.

Hmm well that is bizarre, i couldn't honestly say but sounds like it has hardware that's specific to that phone, so it's probably unlikely that any other would work.
I still doubt there is a dac inside the dock, but clearly somethings going on hard to say without ripping it open.
Most car docks i've seen just make use of the 3.5mm jack for this very reason.
My S3 was able to output audio through the USB port, no DAC required. I had it hooked up through a cable to my car's 30-pin Apple connector and would transmit very good sound. I was hoping to do the same with my One. No luck to this point.
I'm hesitant to go purchase a bunch of cables without knowing. Guess I'll just hook it into the headphone port.
The talk around the removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack from some phones has got me thinking... is it possible to have a cable in my car that I plug into the OnePlus3 USB C port, that then provides power AND audio out? I don't need DASH charging (but reasonably fast charging would be good), and I have a 3.5mm jack in my car, so is this possible, and if so, what would I need to connect from USB C to power and audio our (3.5mm)?
Why? My car has Bluetooth audio, but it's a pain. When I start the car it's not instant on. Sometimes it decides not to connect. Sometimes audio drops out. I also have another phone for work, but my car only allows a single bluetooth connection, so when I'm travelling for work, I'd like my work phone connected to Bluetooth for calls and my OnePlus3 connected via 3.5mm for audio. BUT I don't want another cable to connect. I want this simple and quick!
Any thoughts?!
is the BT in your car an embedded head unit?

Yes, my car has Bluetooth in the factory fitted head unit. Its just that Bluetooth tends to be a pain. Takes 30seconds to connect after I start the car, etc. And as my car also has 3.5mm input I was just thinking there may be a more elegant solution using USB C.

like i said, there is (since USB-C can carry audio, even video and ethernet etc), but i'm pretty sure your car's head unit won't support it.
check out the BT-FM transmitter products i suggested.

Yeah, I get that, and like I said, my car has a 3.5mm input. So I need USB C -> Power and Audio via 3.5mm output. Something like the adaptor that comes with the Moto Z: http://www.androidcentral.com/moto-zs-usb-c-headphone-jack-adapter
But, I'd like to split the USB C off to provide power input as well as audio out. So I was thinking something like a USB C hub. But not sure if that would still provide the USB C Audio out as well as enough power to charge the phone.

you could try that adapter + a USB-C hub
I've used my Nexus 6P with USB-C hub to use mice/keyboard/flashdrive while charging my phone via USB-C, i assume OP3 is no different since it has USB-OTG as well (won't charge faster than 1.5A via the hub though)
What you need is a USB C DAC. Here. use an OTG cable from your phone to a hub. Plug the DAC into the hub. Audio will route out USB to DAC and then you can plug a 3.5mm cable into the DAC for high quality audio. The otg will charge the phone at the same time.

I would like to make something like a dock for my car where I would plug in just a single USB cable and would have both charge (through the usb) and audio (through the jack into the head unit in my car). You may want to read the first post of this thread: [Guide] How to enable USB audio on Nexus 5X
The short answer is, yes, the 5X (and a lot of other devices too, it depends on the kernel and a properly configured ALSA, and should be possible since Android 4.1) can output Audio through the USB connector, through you may be limited to charging slowly at the same time you are outputting audio; and depending on the device, it may not charge at all.

Does the Nexus 6 support USB headphone adaptation? Older phone aux port is problematic. Can I use a USB adapter for audio purposes, while using standard headphones.
What do you mean when you say the headphone connection is problematic? Has it failed, or are you just not a fan of it?
Regarding using USB headphones, it probably will not work only because there is a dedicated (and superior) input for the purpose, meaning no need to add the capability to the USB connection. You probably would have better luck simply using a pair of Bluetooth headphones.
When plugged in standard headphones output is staticky and choppy. I am just curious if I can use the USB port to run audio from instead of the standard aux port.
And I answered your question. Use a Bluetooth headset as USB likely won't work.
BTW, your headphone jack needs to be cleaned. A drop of alcohol and plugging a pair of headphones in and out a few times should fix it.
