[Q/A] phone soft bricked / can't flash with odin either - Samsung Galaxy M21 Questions & Answers

Hi everyone, I was using this forum for a long time but this is the first post I've ever written.
Let me explain my problem:
I was rooting my SM-M215F/DSN and Odin gone mad for some reason and bricked the phone. Now phone is on a loop with screen sayin "An error has occurred while updating the device software. Use the emergency recovery function." Usually I can fix this kind of situations but this time I cannot fix this and hope someone can help me with it. This was not my first ROOT but for this phone it was.
These are the things I've already tried:
1) Tried to reboot phone to download mode. After pressing Volume (-) & Power it don't let me do anything and goes back to that warning screen directly.
2) Drained all battery power to kill phone, but when I connect it to grid it goes back to that screen again.
3) Used emergency recovery with Smart Switch but get an error "SM-M215F does not support initializing"
4) Odin cannot connect to phone in this mode so it cannot turn back to stock firmware
5) Someone has told in this forum that it's another kind of download mode and use Heimdall. I've tried it and it detects the device but while downloading .pit file it gives "ERROR: Failed to access device. libusb error: -12". I am a little bit n00b on Heimdall so I gave up.
So if anyone can help I will be really appreciated. Thanks in advance.

After a real struggle I've found my own solution so need to share with community.
Tenoshare ReiBoot for Android free version let me exit from download mode.
Hope this helps.

[Q] I9000M Can't boot!

Hi, I know the questions have been asked many times, but I did not see any good answers.
I have an I9000M an d I tried upgrading to froyo 2.2. I first tried with Kies, but it wouldn't. It would see my phone, I could add music, add/save contact, but when I upgraded it would just disconnect.
I turned to Odin's method. I had the seemingly frequent problem of it being stuck at "File Analysis" It had been there for an hour or so... So I got it was not working. I then had the bad idea of unplugging it, and now I'm stuck at the screen on boot with a [phone]---[exclamation mark]---[pc].
I can't get into either recovery or download mode anymore (tried with 3 buttons, but wasnt able anyways before, and ADB don't see my device (nor does Odin or Kies).
I tried removing the battery for about a minute and rebooting/replugging, etc. Nothing works.
What can I do more...?
Thanks

Without download mode (VOL Down, Home, Pwr) then your only options is to either send it in for repair or try to get download mode working with a homemade Jig.
More on that Here.
I heard story's of people of forcing it to go into download mode using heat as well from say a hair dryer. But I do not recommend that.

Also I'm just curious as how you used odin without even having download mode? I'm having my doubts that when you said I know this question has been asked many times but you have not found a good answer is true. Next time do a bit more reading before just flashing your device. If you have even 1 thing your not sure about when flashing your phone that's 1 to many.
Puzzled also .
First question has to be can you actually get the phone into download mode .
Thats the big yellow download sign .
That has to be your first step get download mode on your phone .
Odin does not work without download mode so if no download mode who knows what you where trying to achieve or did achieve .

No, I could get it in download mode BEFORE attempting to flash. Then I started Odin.
Now, I'm stuck with the image on boot screen and I can't do a thing. Phone is not recognized anymore on my PC so ADB/KIES/Odin won't see it.

Remove Kies and reinstall that will make sure the drivers are OK .
Get into download mode if 3 buttons fail then you need the jig as posted.
Could try removing battery go to three button download mode and as you are holding down the buttons stick the battery back in to see if it enters download mode .

Thanks guys for all the tips...! But nothing seems to work. It's just stuck at the connect error icon (?) and when I try to go in download mode either way, it just loops. (Icon appears and dissappears)
Two more questions:
1) If i have to get it repaired, do I contact Samsung or my provider ? (Bell in this case)
2) I'm at ease with electronics and stuff, so the jig should't be too hard to do for me, but is it guaranteed to work ? I mean, is it software-independant. Is there a problem that I can have that would prevent it to work ?
Thanks again!
Will work. Had the same issue as yours were I could not get into download mode and the phone would not boot either. The jig saved my phone. You can make your own or you can buy it on ebay. Good luck.
Good, should have all that at my job. Will try it.
Finally, it turns out that I called Bell and they told me that this was a common problem with these devices and they are sending me a new one!
Well.. whatever it was! haha
Thanks again for the help though!

[Q] CWMRecover bricked my phone?

Hi All, this is really bad as I managed to brick my phone twice in 2 days, anyways. I managed to root my phone, then installed ROM Manager, and tried to make a full rom back up, it didn't seem to work for me I would always get stuck at
----Install from sdcard....
Finding update package....
Opening update package....
Verifying update package...
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
So this got me to get to some threads where CWMRecovery.tar file was used to flash the kernel using Odin, I downloaded CWMRecovery.tar, used odin, selected PDA and tried upload (ofcourse my phone was in download mode) the upload went almost half way through and then it failed. Now my phone wont start its gets stuck at phone---warning--pc images screen. Any suggestions will be appreciated
I'm no expert at this, and I have never personally faced this issue, but from hanging around in in the XDA forums I might have learned something that could help you out.
Since you mention you have used ODIN, I will assume that you have already have tried - and failed - to get into download mode with the three button combo.
In that situation, I understand that many people have experienced success with something they call a "jig". Apparently, this is a USB dongle that you insert into your phone in order to automatically put your phone in download mode. I haven't posted enough times to be allowed to include outside links in my posts, but if you search Youtube for the video entitled "Samsung Galaxy S Download Mode USB dongle , Homemade unbrick jig", you'll see an illustration of the concept.
I understand that such devices are available for purchase in various places online. I have no idea what they cost, but I cannot imagine they would be terribly expensive. As I already intimated, I have not tried this myself, but I reckon you might find it worthwhile to investigate this further
Ok, I had to use the JIG thing again to get to download mode. My issue was that ROM Manager would not make backups. It turns out that when you get to recovery mode, at the very top if it says 3e then it doesnt(didnt) work. So here is what I did to get it done.
you will have (probably) make sure that your system credentials are the same
My phone already rooted
GT-I9000
Firmware:2.2.1
Baseband:I9000XXJPY
Kernel:2.6.32.9 [email protected] #1
Build:FROYO.XXJPY
Now download this file
CF-Root-XX_XEU_JPY-v1.3-BusyBox-1.17.1.zip
from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108
Go to download mode using 3 buttons, or sdk with adb command mode, if you use sdk mode, for this you have to put your phone
Settings>Applications>Development>Check USB Debugging
mode.
Once in download mode, start odin
click on PDA and locate the file you downloaded earlier and unzipped it. unzipped file name=CF-Root-XX_XEU_JPY-v1.3-BusyBox-1.17.1.tar
Hit start on Odin and wait. Once your phone reboots (presuming there werent any issues) Now you can use ROM Manager to backup.
Hope this helps some one in my situation where ROM Manager wasnt making backups

please help note 8 bricked

so im on oreo, i decide to downgrade to bra8 to upgrade to a newer version of oreo, i odin back, but while downgrading firmware my cat drops mt laptop and interupted it, now its bricked to the error occured while upgrading software please use smart switch mergency recovery, i did that but it says my device is not support for initalzing to rstore it, im guessing samsung removed that feature completely, is there any way i can fix this!??
No problem, start the update with Odin again. You just have to press vol down + power 7 sec and put the cell phone back in download.
Vol. Down+ bixby+power, when start vol up
When using emergency recovery be sure to use capital letters for any letters in your serial number. Good luck with your soft brick.

a bit late reply but nevertheless for others who have the same problem like you and me, just solved it. so what I did: after my odin update was interrupted accidentally my phone also showed please use smart switch emergency recovery screen. downloaded smart switch but could not emergency recover (unsupported device problem - seems to me smart switch could not see my phone properly). after searching the web (that's how I found this thread ) and not finding any solutions i tried different tricks and found out that odin sees my phone but cant initialize firmware update since phone was not in download mode (after bixby+dwnload btn+pwr and pressing continue, the screen returned to please use smart switch emergency recovery screen) but I did not give in and did the following to successfully update my firmware:
1. start odin (place respective files in respective fields of your firmware), you wont be able to initialize the process while please use smart switch emergency recovery screen is shown;
2. connect your phone to odin and press bixby+dwnload btn+pwr combination the way to see options - volume down to shut down the phone (but you wont be able to shut it down it will return to that terrible screen) and press volume up to continue, after pressing the continue button you will hear that connection sound and this time you will be able to initialize the process and update your firmware.
good luck everybody on restoring your soft bricked Samsung devices (mine was unlocked note 8 (SM-N950U1).

Samsung S2 Tab SM-T819Y is entirely broken.. Need some help

Hi Guys,
Need some help and advice here. I've a problem with a loop boot up issue until I accidentally bricked it with Odin3 using a wrong MD5 file. The tablet cannot recognize itself in Odin3 (can't add) and the I'm stuck with an error like "An error has occurred while updating the device software. Use Emergency recovery function in the Smart Switch PC software. Yeah I use the Emergency recovery function and the message from the Switch PC Software ended up telling me this T819Y model isn't supported and please seek help from Service centre. I couldn't turn the tablet off because the power button couldnt turn itself off except going back to the error mode or download mode. Now going back to download mode is useless too as Odin3 is unable to see the tablet. Anyone can help? I've not been sleeping well for the last 24hrs...trying to fix this... any guru advice on the guide is very much appreciated..

Need help with SM-N9600 stuck at boot screen

I tried to update my SM-N9600 that was stuck on android 8.1, it wont show any update so i tried to install this firmware https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-note9/firmware/SM-N9600/ANC/download/N9600ZHS5ETI1/396464/ and followed the odin instrucions.
It turns out it failed at the end and i got a blue screen with the message "an error has occurred while updating the device software use the emergency recovery function" which i don't have so i kinda panic and used this frphijacker software which sent me to where i am now, stuck at boot screen and the phone will won't even turn off, wont connect to the computer with usb cable either.. i hope when the battery drain i could turn it on recovery mode but i'm uncertain..
Would really appreciate any info or any help
