Are LG V40 US models renewed compatible in the EU? - LG V40 Questions & Answers

Are the models available in the US with US carriers compatible with EU networks? I'm looking into getting one of the models available on Amazon renewed, such as LG Electronics LG V40 LM-V405UAL (VZN) or Sprint or Verizon versions. (Mod edit)
Will rooting and unlocking be possible with any carrier version? Are there versions to be avoided or preferred? I would like to end up with a custom rom eventually. Is it possible to root and unlock while running GNU/Linux? Possibly via Windows 7 on QEMU with USB passthrough?
Apropos custom roms, is the software that LG provides for cameras included in some of them? I think one of the points of the LG V series was customization of camera parameters.
Or would a renewed version of LG V50 be a much better option?
Thank you.

Thinking of getting one, but unsure which version is being listed here

I'm looking for a version that supports North American bands and from what I understand, the 12gb/512gb one should be the only one that does.
But I also stumbled upon this listing: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000182288484.html?spm=2114.12010612.8148356.2.24fcc18esuf2nD
Which supposedly is 8gb/128gb with North American bands. From what I understand this version shouldn't exist? It also mentions both 2x2 MIMO and 4x4 MIMO so I have no idea which it actually has.
In the description it says: "Tips: CN version, Officail Global Firmare,Mulit Language , Support Google Play and OTA upgrade"
Are they trying to say that it's the Tencent version but with global ROM? I thought OTA upgrades currently don't work on the global ROM?
They also write: " About package and firmware: we'll open the original box to check the phone and install Multi language ROM and Google paly store. Official ROM will be prefered. if custom translation may doesn't cover all the Menus. Not support OTA Update. we may update the ROM. So the OS version may different as the sreenshots."
But I think they have this as a disclaimer on all their phone product pages, whether it applies or not.
I'm trying to determine whether the listing is legit or not and whether to place an order. Did they make a mistake/ are they lying about the bands? Or is there an actual version like this/ did they manage to do something to the Tencent version? In terms of reputation, there's nothing particularly suspicious about the seller so I wouldn't imagine they would outright lie, but it's also a pretty big mistake to make, especially since they highlight the key specs (and bands) in red.
I'm leaning towards the "don't trust" side, with this one, but what do you think?
IMO, you would be better off waiting a few more days till the global version is released. That's a China version with global software, which has been nothing but trouble for most of the people i have heard about that converted.
They already told you.
This is china tencent edition. The phone is not is not brand new, we will open the box, we will turn on you phone, we will root it and unlock the bootloader, in order to replace CN ROM with WW ROM.
So, it will be 2x2, it will lack most bands, it will lack the cover and the cooling accessory included in Ww edition, which will be launched on 30th of September.
Of course, no warranty at all from ASUS and you may have trouble with NFC payments and banking apps. Some other apps may recognise your modified rom, too.
If you are ready, acknowledging all this, you can buy it asap.

Is asus rog 2 tencent variant with global ROM going to work in USA on AT&T?

So, I'm looking to buy ROG 2 but the variant in US is quite expensive. With taxes, it comes out to be close to $1000.
I'm looking on eBay and it seems like a lot of sellers are selling asus rog 2 tencent variant with global ROM.
Is this legit?
With global ROM, Chinese tencent variant works with all bands in US (on AT&T)?
According to all sellers, Chinese tencent variant works on GSM / AT&T and support play store and should get updates like a global variant from Asus. Is that true?
I thought Chinese tencent variant is missing some bands and it's a hardware limitation. How installing global ROM will start supporting all bands?
Just curious what variant were announced in Taiwan and India? Is it worth buying Taiwan variant? Some sellers are selling that too.
Basically I need some suggesting so I'm not mislead by sellers on eBay. I need to use it with AT&T. Will I be able to get 4G LTE? Will I be able to use AT&T hotspot?
Please advise.
I think it's true that band support is a hardware limitation. Even if it is a software change and you get the global bands, I still would only suggest buying the U.S. version (or whatever is local to your area) for two big reasons. Warranty, and customer service. Buying grey market versions off eBay will get you the phone cheaper, but you'll have no Asus warranty. You may have a warranty through the seller, but now you're dealing with someone overseas. That means you have to question the legitimacy of the seller, and there's a bigger hassle factor involved. If you have a tech support need you're unlikely to get it from Asus because you're using the phone in a way it wasn't approved for.
If you're willing to take those risks, then go for it. It's just not for me at any price.
Thank you @Mr_Mooncatt for sharing your thoughts, I appreciate it. I guess the price of a US variant is quite demotivating since it's almost double (including taxes and all) compared to a global variant. So one may question if paying double $$ justifies the value or not. That's all. Though I agree with all the points you mentioned.
Keep in mind that all the tencent versions with WW ROM is not official device from Asus.
Asus has put this as a warning on their forum, in the Asus Rog phone 2 section.
They are saying tencent version only comes with CN ROM and does not come with WW ROM and those tencent version with WW ROM is modified device and may not have valid warranty and no working FOTA.

Extremely confused about band compatibility and updates

I've browsed through the forum, as well as in the web and could not find the answers to my question.
I've been seeing throughout (Nubia's website, gsmarena, ebay listings) that different "versions" of the device are compatible with different bands.
With that said, I haven't seen different versions of the device around and it's not clear to me if there even are two versions.
Is it the case that whether you flash the NA v103 vs the EU v203 ROM, there'll be different band compatibility?
Has anyone used the device in the US? Is the reception good? (I'm on Metropcs)
If I buy it from this link (https://www.ebay.com/itm/Nubia-Z20-...hash=item2cf91a8a75:m:msBr-AqyOKf-4kOGzQXk8Og), would I get the NA version?
Also, how is the device with security updates?
I use the z20 on AT&T. Cell signal is good, wifi signal is very strong.
As far as security updates, not a single one. So if that's important to u, I'd skip it.
I have the US version on Tmobile, and it works fine (purchased from Nubia directly). I can't respond about some offering on ebay.

I highly doubt it but does it support Wi-Fi calling and HD Voice?
I don't know why you doubt it but it does support wifi calling, I am not sure if it will support HD.

LG V409N Unlock and Root?

Hi,
I'm new here and i came from the LG V30. I'm planning to upgrade to a V40 but the only thing available for me was the V409N (Korea) and the V405UA (AT&T) version.
The V30 can cross flash between many variants except T-Mobile using modified LGUP, root and TWRP can also be achieved.
I was wondering if the V40 has similar methods? Because i usually use my phone with root and custom ROMs.
Thanks in advance
If you look in the forums you'll see threads for crossflashing v40 and unlocking and rooting. Like the v30, t-mobile is excluded. Custom roms are also available. Unlike the v30, the v40 is a treble device, which makes things a bit more complicated, but on the plus side the v40 does have a 'fire-hose' available which makes it modifiable using qfil and edl mode (which means basically that you really can't brick it). I like my v40 very much, (was) a flag ship device, a good price, and some development for it, though not an overwhelming amount.
cheers

lg v40 won't satisfy you in terms of custom roms and root. also it has the most bad battery experience of all LG phone I've ever used! , think about G8 instead.
Well, 'satisfied' in terms of custom roms is going to be subjective. Some, like myself, if lineage is available (it is), then I'm satisfied. As far as battery goes, I too was disappointed at first, but when I got a power-delivery charger, that all changed. I had read the PD chargers are not the same as QC chargers, and additionally that you should never charger your PD battery with a QC charger (which I had been using).
LG does specify both types of charging in the specs (18W max). But for whatever reason, my V40 battery is much much better if I use a PD charger.
cheers

So what's the best variant of LGV40

So I'm pretty much asking for the meta/everything that I need to know about LGV40 development. I don't want to make the same mistake again by not researching or asking and just plunge to get a locked variant like the H932 for the LGV30. So what is the US998 LGV30 equivalent of LGV40 that's compatible with all custom roms?

I'm guessing, since you mentioned the H932, you're in the states? Assuming that's true, I'd recommend the AT&T variant. I think the variant that would come with the NAO US Open firmware would be the V405QA7 which I've not seen one for sale (they actually have a listing for an 'unlocked' variant on swappa just now, but it's actually the LM-V409 which is the Korean variant!)
The at&t variant is also available unlocked (sim unlocked). With it, you can crossflash to the US Open kdz (only Pie now, Q supposedly soon), or to other 'Open' variants like the Korean Open, which is pretty popular (it **does** have band 71, oddly, as they don't have that band in Korea).
But yes, absolutely, stay away from t-mo variant. If you read the threads re unlocking or crossflashing, installing twrp or Lineage, etc, they **all** say 'every variant but t-mo!'.
cheers

Yes, I am from US and also a T-mobile users hence I went with H932(T-mobile) V30. Thanks a lot!
So it should be V405UA is the AT&T the one I should be looking for? I just wanna make sure because sometimes, some models share the same name. Like for example, in LGV30. I think two carriers share the same model.
