Is there any issue on buying Pixel from other countries to India... - Google Pixel 5 Questions & Answers

is there any issue on buying Pixel from other countries to India. Since Pixel 5 is not officially released in India, the only was Indians can get Pixel 5 is getting one from other countries. Is there any issue in doing so ? Carrier lock, OTA updates, any legal issues (like Pixel 4 and it's radar sensor), or any other issues ?

As long as you buy an Unlocked model, it should be fine. I also live in a country where the phone is not officially sold in but my device works fine with my carrier. The only things that won't work out of the box is VoLTE, VoWifi and 5G. Everything else works fine.
The model I have is GTT9Q, the International Model, although the GD1YQ (U.S model) will also work fine, make sure the one you're buying is a bootloader unlockable model. Ask your retailer if unsure.

OTA updates are no big deal you can change the region setting and get the update as far as sim connectivity is concerned get the unlock version.

Thanks a lot... Anyway I am planning to buy GA01986-US from noon.com, I don't know it will work in India or not. What do you meant by "won't work out of the box is VoLTE, VoWifi and 5G" is there any setting I need to adjust to work properly? It is hard to find compact phone these days. Thanks again.

If your country/carrier is not in this list https://pixel.withgoogle.com/5G/, even if your carrier's 5G network is compatible with the phone, it won't work. Google blocks the phone's 5G connection by software for "unofficial" countries so you will need to root your device to force-enable it.
Same with VoLTE and VoWIfi. For these two to work, your phone must have your carrier's specific network configuration file. To have this file, Google must work with your carrier to obtain your carrier's settings to make the configuration file. Google won't work with any carrier/country they don't officially do business with.
You're in India so VoLTE, VoWifi and 5G won't work out of the box, unless you root your device and alter system files to force-enable these features.

The international model won't have VoLTE or Wifi calling for US operators.
Theoretically, you could rebrand to the AT&T Mate 10 Pro and get Wifi calling for T-Mobile and AT&T.

1. Load up internet Explorer and go to https://emui.huawei.com/en/plugin/unlock/detail.
2. Make an account saying your are from Hong Kong.
3. Paste "https://emui.huawei.com/en/plugin/unlock/detail" back in the URL Bar.
4. Fill out all of the information and hit submit.
No need to email Huawei in google translated Chinese or pay someone for a code.
Finally got OTA update for b119 (c636).
Want to buy the BLA-L29 but have questions:
Hi and thanks for any assistance you can provide:
1. I am buying the Huawei Mate 10 Pro BLA-L29 Version -- In the US, will VoLTE and WiFi Calling work with T-Mobile?
2. If no on my first question, if I re-branded it to the AT&T ALP-L29, then will VoLTE and WiFi Calling work on T-Mobile?
3. And I am confused -- Isn't the ALP-L29 for the Huawei Mate 10 and not the Mate 10 Pro? Is it OK to re-brand The Mate 10 Pro with the Mate 10 software and will everything still work on the Pro correctly?
4. Last Question: If I am only using 1 sim card and I am on a phone call, will I be able to browse the web at 4G LTE or will it drop to 3G while I am on the call? This was my experience with an international version of the P9 Plus. So I am just doing my homework before I buy the Huawei Mate 10 Pro BLA-L29.
Thanks!

As far as I know there are territorially different versions of Mate 10 but only 2 versions of Mate 10 pro (BLA-L09 -one sim and BLA_L29 -two sims). Me personally have L29 and it supports both VoLTE and WIFI calling (if operator supports them). And according to specs from Huawei (http://consumer.huawei.com/en/phones/mate10-pro/specs/ and confirmation from technical support) both works on FDD-LTE bands 1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8/9/12/17/18/19/20/26/28/32. Therefore they would be fine with either Tmobile or ATT since LTE of these operators leans mainly on lower bands 700 MHz (17 for ATT and 12 for Tmobile). And yes, two sims version (L29) operates on LTE simultaneously, you can even forward call from one sim to other. So there is no need to rebrand the phone or mess with the system otherwise. The phone operates pretty fair in its original state.
Hope that you find this information useful. Do not hesitate to ask additional questions. I'd be glad to help if I could.
Thanks but see this message from FunkyHuawei
"No, VoLTE and Wifi calling will not work.
If you rebrand to AT&T which is not ALP but BLA-A09, it will work.
AT&T is not ALP, it's BLA
If you have VoLTE, you'll still be connected to LTE when you're on a call."
So essentially FunkyHuawei, those nice folks who try to help you get your Huawei devices working the way you need them to are saying the BLA-L variants won't allow VoLTE in the USA but the AT&T version on the Mate 10 Pro will allow it so they are suggesting unlocking bootloader and rebranding it to BLA-A09. So another variant has appeared planned for US release only on AtT as BLA-A09...
It's the 1 Sim 4gb version just like the L09.
Are you using your L29 in the US and on what carrier?
Thanks for your help.
I would prefer to get the BLA-L29 anyhow.
Regards
Kevin

No, I'm currently not in the USA, but I travell a lot and therefore the problem is interesting for me as well. And yes, the people with FunkyHuawei are right about BLA-A09 (Huawei Blanc). But the real question is how come that VoLTE dosn't work with ATT and how to remedy that issue with as less pain as possible.
Checking https://www.frequencycheck.com/models/GBYLg/huawei-mate-10-pro-td-lte-bla-a09-huawei-blanc and other relevant sites shows that as far as hardware is concern BLA-A09 is equal BLA-L09. So where is the differece? It seems that ATT doesn't brand phones only by putting some bloatware but use some restrictions as well. There is no hardware or software difference on using VoLTE anywhere in the world and as you could see from attached pictures Mate 10 Pro functions so that it simply shows in the menu options to enable either VoLTE or WIFI calling or both if the operator supports them. Otherwise those options simply don't appear.
Mobile operators in the USA have pretty strong position, they can decide which phone and how may be connected to their networks. And ATT obviously decided that only branded phones from its side could use VoLTE (...Even the pixel didn't work because of AT&T's restrictions - https://forum.xda-developers.com/essential-phone/help/volte-wifi-calling-sms-att-t3665838).
So the essential question is how that restriction works. There are some indicators that it is on the hardware side (https://forums.att.com/t5/Device-Features/VOLTE-calls/td-p/5273138). That would be good because the chances are that incorporation of BLA-A09 model automatically draws all same models into the story. The worst case would be if the VoLTE availability is assigned individually, in that case rebranding doesn't solve anything.
Why concerns about rebranding? Because it is trade off. You need to unlock bootloader and install custom recovery in order to rebrand the phone. It is not only a bit risky procedure, it draws other consequences. One of nice features I would be hardly missing is Android Pay. It doesn't work with unlocked bootloader and TWRP. And even more apps connected with SafetyNet are to come.
From time to time there is bypass with Magisk but it is a mouse and a cat game, Google try hard to purges its effect. And you don't want to rely on payment solution which wouldn't work when is needed.
So my advise is, if you want 2 sims Mate Pro, don't hurry with rebranding. Wait until other options are researched and see if all models could have ATT Volte enabled. Last but not least in the USA Google Voice could be useful additional possibility. And I don't have VoLTE with my primary operator but WIFI calling works perfect. Even ordinary calling is clear and natural with HD voice enabled.

On Huawei phones, VoLTE is a software issue. There may be IMEI blocks and whatnot on the carrier end, but there is a software block on the software end. It's been proven that if you rebrand a Mate 9 to the US branding, you get VoLTE in the US, on T-Mobile anyway. If not, you don't.
There is a file which dictates whether or not to allow VoLTE on various providers, and the configuration of this file is different for each branding. It's as simple as that.
As far as I know for most of us, volte only works with "carrier branded firmware".
Trying to get BLA-L29 VoLTE to work on T-Mobile
So - According to T-Mobile, they have NO restrictions being the un-carrier. They stated that it has to be on the Mate 10 Pro BLA-L29 end that is restricting the VoLTE options from even showing up on my settings on the phone. Yet, I contacted Huawei International Technical support and they seem to believe that the BLA-L29 should support VoLTE as long as the carrier supports it. They took my IMEI, software build, etc.. and are looking into it. I will reply on this forum if they come back to me with a solution to getting VoLTE to work in the US on T-Mobile.
The EXCELLENT and AMAZING guy over at Funkyhuawei had someone try the ATT re-branding onto a BLA-L29 and still no dice with the VoLTE showing up or working with T-Mobile. So - If anyone has any ideas how to get VoLTE working on my BLA-L29 version, I am all ears. Some people ask - what does it matter if you get VoLTE as long as 4G LTE is working on the phone and you are getting great download speeds -- My reply is because when I make a phone call, that signal drops from 4G to 3G or to H and then I cannot browse the web while on a phone call which I tend to do a lot. I mean I can browse the web, but at 3G speeds, it is basically unusable. Takes like 30 seconds for google.com to load. LOL. We have all become spoiled by LTE and we want our speed!
Lastly - Does anyone know if the version they are releasing on AT&T will be locked to AT&T? Or are AT&T phones sold unlocked or unlockable? Though the fact that VoLTE didn't work on the AT&T rebranded BLA-L29, I am not sure if it will even work on AT&T when they actually release the phone.

Thank you for looking into this, I am very curious to hear what Huawei/Tmobile concludes about VoLTE support on this international brand, because this is the exact situation I am about to be in (mine is coming from Ebay tomorrow!)
Unfortunately I can't answer most of your questions because they are ones I am looking for an answer to as well, but your last one I can shed the little bit of light I have on it.
According to Duurara on the FunkyHuawei thread, he said that the AT&T brand will work on Tmobile, but he had also said that branding to the AT&T firmware should also enable VoLTE working across either AT&t or Tmobile. But if you are saying that is not true, then we may not have any full answers yet and you may be our saving grace to these questions.
Best of luck and keep us updated please!

Depending on your provider, you either have it, or you do not.
Open settings, type volte in search bar...
Bootloader is locked, so if you don't have it, you don't have it.
Sent from my phone
The carrier it is being used on is important. Rogers, for example, does similar to AT&T, where they won't allow certain features to work on devices that were not purchased directly through them. If you are using the device on a US carrier, you might want to flash it to the U1 non-carrier firmware, which plays friendliest with T-Mobile for available features, or go one step further and flash to a specific carrier U firmware for a more specific focus on the features they provide.

Unlocked Note 9 issue

I just got a Note 9 on Amazon, I realize a small risk associated with that. The phone was sold as a factory unlocked device. I received it today and I checked it in the settings and the device is confirmed as a SM-N960U1 which is what it should be. However, when I go to register the phone on Samsung's website, I enter the IMEI and it registered as a SM-N960UZKASPR which is an unlocked sprint variant. I am using this phone on AT&T at the moment, but will be transferring to T-Mobile very soon. Am I going to have issues with this as far as bands and networks are concerned, or anything else? I know I am screwed when it comes to wifi calling and volte.

What I assume happened is that the phone was a sprint model but was unlocked. The previous owner installed the U1 firmware which is the unlocked and unbranded firmware.
All US models are built with the same hardware, radios etc. Compatible with all networks.
You will be able to use it on Tmobile no problem.
You are not screwed if you want tmobile features
If you want tmobile related features wifi calling and the like, you will need to flash the tmobile firmware.

PSA: Tencent model of Rog Phone 2 blocked from Verizon networks

So everyone knows, Verizon refused to allow my Verizon SIM cards to work on my Tencent Chinese version of the ROG Phone 2. They said the IMEI is not approved for use on their network (I tried both IMEI for both SIM slots and got the same result). They claim to have no way to make an exception to allow the phone and that Asus would have to go through the certification process for the China models (which they will probably never do).
The phone works fine with T-Mobile since they don't seem to require a certification process for phones to be used on their network.
Ah, that's really unfortunate. Hopefully the international version will work with Verizon. The ROG Phone 2 is so close to being perfect, but if it can't be used on Verizon that will sour the experience for a lot of people in the states.

Cool. If you get it fully activated without that work around for calls, Asus may need to ramp up production. There's a lot of us Verizon users chomping at the bit for it. Lol

If I get it, it'll be the official U.S. Version. But good luck. If it works for you, that may be good news for the rest of us. The only issue I see is lack of frequency support on the Tencent version.
I wouldn't even bother. Verizon has some of the worse support for unlocked devices unless it's an Apple or Samsung of course! So frustrating..

I have been saying this for over a week. Unless we can somehow get VOLTE working, VZW users are screwed. Why not just use google voice??

Yes indeed you have.
So, does data work in any form on Verizon with the Tencent version? I just tried today (Nov 5th) and all the Verizon phone reps including managers who've been there years are claiming it is impossible to add the IMEI because the Rog Phone II still hasn't been added to their list of phones.
If anyone else really did get it to work, please clearly explain your steps.

US unlocked LG V405QA7 volte and wifi calling

Hello guys having an us unlocked variant is frustrating as At&t and verizon does not support volte and wifi calling on devices that are not in there brand. So with many googling I found out T-mobile supports unlocked phones for volte and wifi calling and so I switched and yes they do support volte and wifi calling manufacture unlocked devices!
I know it depends on the phone as well but if you google then you will see that at&t and verizon only allows those features there branded devices.
Does this mean you were able to flash the T-mobile rom on to the us unlocked phone successfully?
Thanks
No, I don't believe it means that! T-mo is very problematic in that regard as they use a separate and unique signature key for their roms. I don't believe you can mix them and there's a very high risk of bricking your device if you try.
The other reason I don't believe it means that is I have an AT&T phone, flashed to us open version rom, and it has both wifi calling and volte using a t-mo mvno (mint mobile). So, no, don't assume the op has flashed t-mo firmware to achieve this, it's not necessary and may well end with a brick.
cheers

No, I did not flash it. T-Mobile was the only one that supported unlocked devices for volte and wificalling activating them through the sim card network, So you just need a t-mobile sim card activated.
I went carrier shopping and it seems T-Mobile is the only carrier around to support activating those features for unlocked devices and I was happy as I wont be missing anymore calls and appointments.
i got verizon and it says i have hd voice which is verizon's volte service and I'm on this unlocked phone as well

The unlocked phone should be the 5QA7 as the model. But dang guess Verizon and T-mobile support those features for unlocked phones. A rep in Verizon told me they dont support unlocked phones when I asked them about volte/wifi calling. I only know that AT&T are greedy company as they only support there branded phones.
