Will root method, ROMs, kernels, etc. for older version provided here on this sub-forum work on the 2021 version?

Probably not, they are two different phones. For root use Magisk, it almost always works, and for custom roms use Generic System Images

Can anybody clarify Firmware?

Sorry for being ignorant. I am new to the Mi 5 Development environment, here I see firmwares are necessary to flash custom Roms. This thing is new to me. Can anyone explain this thing briefly to me? Which firmware is necessary for certain custom roms? for example For marshmallow and Nougat. Also what in case of Miui based Roms? Thanks in advance.
For MIUI ROMs firmware flashing is not necessary as what we actually flash as firmware is actually a part of the MIUI ROMs while using other ROMs.
For other ROMs, firmware flashing is not always necessary, sometimes firmware is included in ROM zip, sometimes not.You have to read the OP and flashing instructions to know if its necessary to flash a firmware.
For an example,i have been using RR 5.8.0 unofficial for some days,i didn't have to flash the firmware zip,as it was included in the ROM.but 1 or 2 days ago,RR 5.8.1 official released, and firmware were removed from thw ROM zip to make it smaller.so if i want to flash the latest RR 5.8.1 on my phone now,I have to flash the firmware required though i didn't have to do it in the older builds.
Good luck.

You can have a look at this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-5/development/tool-flashable-firmware-twrp-easy-t3474898 ...very very informative.
Here some words from 33bca, the OP of that thread
<< zip includes all needed firmware files to switch between different firmware versions, since roms don't include firmware to use less space or they are not allowed to. It can also get really helpful if you want to restore a backup of an older rom which requires a different firmware. >>

BlueBorne and Android M

Hello there, I am currently using CyanogenMod 13 with Xposed and Root. Is there a way to apply the September security patch for BlueBorne on this ROM? I really don't want to leave Xposed because of this.

Development for Marshmallow is obsolete. You'll have to do it yourself if that's the case. Build cm13 and add in the security patches. Every other developer are working on Android Oreo so I highly doubt that anyone if going to take on such project. As I said, learning to do it yourself is your best bet.

Magisk seems very interesting, is it stable for this device? Is it compatible with non-stock ROMs?

Magisk works great for our device. There are also different modules that can be flashed for Magisk as there were for xposed. Magisk is great as it does not trip safetynet and some apps that won't work because they detect root would work when having magisk installed. I suggest you too google "Magisk xda" and go to the subforum and read as much as possible to learn more about it.

What is treble and why is all the fuss about it?

Recently I saw that there appeared a new kind of roms which need a special recovery and, as I could find, have something to do with easier update of Android version. Also I have seen a project: https://forum.xda-developers.com/pr...-development/experimental-phh-treble-t3709659 which claims to have one rom file that can be flashed on a impressing number of roms. I saw the first comment by author which has a method to know if a device has support for treble and it is refered to run "treble check" app from play store on official rom. The thing is that I experimented and installed treble rom (lineage OS) from redmi 4x thread and did the check if the device is supported (the screenshot is attached below) and saw that on this rom it is supported, in contrary to MIUI. The question is about this controversion: is this device supported or not? Can I flash these ROMs from the thread? Are treble ROMs really like a universal flashable file for multiple devices?
If you flash GSI (Generic System Image) it will work on our device. Yes Treble roms are universally flashable if GSI is used, with some minimal modification for device specific. So porting roms will easier, and less time consuming.
Anyone can correct me, if i 'm wrong.

So if I flash the rim from this link specifically on redmi 4x, the device will have no harm at all?

Yes, but follow the instruction there. Our device is A-only device. Use the special recovery here for flashing. Or flash the lineageos 15.1 treble edition first just find in on our device forum.

I have seen that seamless updates require A and B partition. I want to know what I am loosing with this device by having only the A partition (what really is seamless update and how does it work)? P.S. sorry for being annoying.

As far as i know the seamlees update works this way:
In slot A you have installed any OS Example Android 8.1
In slot B there is a backup of the OS Om slot A
This mean you can install the ota of Android P (example) in one of the slots while you are on Facebook for example

Need Help for Android 11 ROMs for RedMagic 3S Global

I have Redmagic 3s (Bought 2019 - India). Phone works just fine and no issues with it. Currently on Build NX629J_V1S_ENCommon_V.217. Android 9.
Nubia has been providing Google Security Patches with latest one begin August 2021.
I used to do lots of custom roms etc many year back. Now lost the touch, but know the basics.
I am looking to refresh my RM3s to Latest Android Version (11 or 12 and even 13 will also do ).
Based on my research on this forum, It looks like that we need to first flash Chinese Stable ROM, then flash recovery and then followed by Other Custom ROMs. Is this correct?
Is there a way to directly Flash a recovery without need for flashing Chinese ROMs? Also which Custom ROM would you suggest? I am looking for completely Stock android.
I am more confused than before on flashing the ROMs. Help is much appreciated.

Question Will this device ever get a Custom rom ? ( Not GSI, A proper custom rom )

Bought this device at its launch and since then I am waiting for some developer to build a custom ROM for it. Multiple GSI roms available and even the Xiaomi eu also available. But I want to flash some custom ROMs like pixel experience or evolution x . The main problem with GSI and xiaomi eu rom are that they need a computer to get updated. DEVELOPERS HELP !

Until there is a custom recovery that works with Android 12, a pc will be needed.
For AOSP roms the question has already been asked several times.

but why hasn't a custom recovery been released for 11T Pro for Android 12? (I own this phone) TWRP has already been released for phones more recent than this one. Plus, vili kernel source is already available on github.

Just for information which xiaomi android 12 newer than 11t pro have twrp?
TWRP is not a requirement for ROMs.
It also works without. But there is nobody who cooks anything.
I hope that the price in India will fall quickly. Because there are some good people in India who know how to cook.
There should be Android 11 custom rom development, there is basically no custom rom support except GSI for xiaomi now (recently released xiaomi devices)

I meant like ZIP-flashable Custom ROMs that don't need a computer, like LineageOS, dotOS etc.

I think there is only Paranoid Android that is not gsi atm, but it still does require pc to flash due to the fact that even official twrp doesn't support a12 encryption yet.
So yeah basically we also need to wait for twrp dev to make some progress too.

Blame xiaomi for not updating kernel source to android 12.
It's already been 8 months since the GitHub repo for Xiaomi kernel sources was updated.
Any way to downgrade to MIUI 12? There could be also A11 Development not necessarily A12.
Honestly if GSI is available for A12 I'll take it.
If there really is no custom ROM support for this phone, I just need to root it. Any way to root on MIUI 13? (Stock, Global)

Pull the boot.img from your current rom, patch it using Magisk, Use that patched Boot.img to boot off, go to Magisk and direct install it. You know... Just the usual
P.S. There are forums that explain this better but this forum isn't the place to explain how to root a phone.
